7 Barcelona Ice Cream Shops to Bookmark for Your Next Trip | Condé Nast Traveler

"DelaCrem is open every day and is considered a temple of ice cream to locals. Massimo Pignata—originally from Piedmont, the birthplace of the “slow food” movement—is behind this ice cream shop. Since its opening in 2010, it has received numerous awards. Looking for a flavor recommendation? There are a few crowd favorites: pistachio, gianduja, and hazelnut all standout."

Google
The best ice cream I’ve ever had! 🍦✨ From the moment I walked in, everything was amazing. The place has a cozy and welcoming vibe, and you can really feel the love they put into everything. The flavors… absolutely spectacular! I tried several, and each one had the perfect texture, authentic taste that leaves you wanting more. Plus, the young lady who helped me was so kind and friendly, with a warm smile that made the whole experience even better. Definitely one of my favorite spots now — I loved the place and the flavors!

Google
We cannot say enough about this ice cream place. We live outside Barcelona but every time we go, we have to eat ice cream here. It has been like that for years. There is no doubt that it is the best ice cream in Barcelona. It is totally Italian style, creamy full of flavor and not sugary. Best flavor: Pistachio. There is a cue outside, mostly afternoons, it moves quickly, it is worthy. Also, they have very good quality coffee and tea (Magnifico /CajChai)

Google
Coming from someone who knows quality. The ice cream here was outstanding, rich, creamy, and full of authentic gelato flavor. The quality was great and every bite was really flavoursome. The portions were large and the price was very reasonable. It is definitely worth the wait, but if you go around lunchtime, there is usually no line, so you can enjoy it without the wait. The staff were welcoming and friendly, making the whole experience even better. I would highly recommend this place to anyone craving real gelato with great taste and value.

Google
Simply amazing. My goto place for ice cre whenever I'm in Barcelona! Opens late and has a perpetual queue. Indoor and outdoor settings and has a washroom for patrons. My favourite flavour has to be their Pistachio. Its slightly salted and intense in flavour. Good to pair with their dark chocolate or Thailand coconut! They have vegan options too. Friendly staff are always helpful in their recommendations and try-outs even when they're overwhelmed with customers.

Google
Can chose two flavours even for the small size. The portion was very good for the price and loved both of the flavours. Will definitely recommend and go back if visit Barcelona again. They offer many flavours and will want to try others.

Google
One the greatest ice-cream that I've tasted. Incredible variety of different flavours, and fantastic quality. My favourite so far is grapefruit-coconut

Chavdar S.

Google
It's great ice cream at a fair price. Service was prompt and courteous. Seeing how there are queues outside at any time of day, I should say, I've had equally good ice cream without queuing so you can live your life without giving in to social network recommendations and you'll be just fine.

Google
We were told this is the best ice cream in Barcelona ~ it lived up to the reputation ~ absolutely fantastic. Not one member of our party of six was disappointed with their selection ~ don’t be scared of the line outside, it moves fast and the service is excellent!

Yelp
Final dessert before leaving Spain was indeed a tiramisu ice cream in the smallest (Pequeno) size. It didn't regret. There was a small line, which just showed how great this place was. Great ambiance and great vibes. It's too bad I finished this far too quickly before taking a photo. Immaculate tastes. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Gelato was very good. Quick service and great location. Stopped in yesterday for a quick gelato. And coming back again, and again. Paired with an espresso and a warm sunny day made for a great afternoon. Great ambiance in the square and in the quaint little shoppe. Didn't get any pics but I'll add some on next stop.

Yelp
When I tell you that the line was wrapped around the corner...it's because it really was!!! It was the only late night ice cream place open in the area so that just adds to the line of course. Also, the pressure is on when ordering! It's better to have an idea of what you want and be ready to order it...no time for samples when the line is super long and everyone wants their late night sweet fix! But truly it was so worth it!!!! Not really a place to sit and hangout more of a grab and go situation because it is a small location.
google avatar

Yelp
I was recommended to check this spot out by a local and this place really lived up to the hype. The gelato was so creamy and delicious but also light and smooth. I definitely recommend the crema de Rosas flavor. The passion fruit flavor was really sour which helped balance out the sweetness! This place also has a bathroom and some indoor and outdoor seating which is always a plus!

Yelp
Why 5 stars? Because I want to try everything here. --- --- --- This is not very unusual for me when visiting a gelato spot, but the biggest problem I had is that I wanted to try virtually every flavor they had and couldn't decide what to order. Apparently a limit of one sample is kind of a thing here, which kind of sucks, but it also saves me from being a stereotypical gluttonous American pig. I have no shame when it comes to sampling half of the inventory. I ultimately settled on a scoop of coconut and a scoop of tiramisu. Both were straight fire and eggplant emojis. DelaCrem is true to its name as most of the gelato spots in the area kind of looked like the same place, but this stuff just looked and tasted creamier than the rest. I highly recommend walking past the other shops and going out of your way to try a place that had more a "locals come here" vibe than the rest of the shops in the city.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream without an insane price tag. I had the chocolate from Peru and a holiday ice cream to honor Saint Joan. The line took about 30 minutes as this is a very popular place.
google avatar

Cyn C.

Yelp
As the reviewers said, the line is long. We waited nearly 30 min and I ended up getting the pistachio and hazelnut on the cone. The flavors had a very distinct taste to me. It wasn't bad, but it was good so I wonder if that is what makes this ice cream store so popular? A friend said the flavor profiles were extra nutty, but given they are of nut sources. That makes sense right? The ice cream scoopers speak English and were very friendly, they event offered to let me use the restroom inside while I was in the queue which was convenient after I had a drink nearby.
google avatar

Candi K.

Yelp
This place was recommended by our paella instructor and didn't disappoint. there is a bit of a line but again goes quickly. the flavors here are your traditional flavors (which i like better) and had to be the creamiest gelato that I've ever had. Wow. even the cone was wow.
google avatar

Nikki G.

Yelp
The long line is worth the wait!!! The line for gelato was down the block but moved very quickly. The lemon & watermelon gelato were fresher than I have ever imagined. The flavors were spot on and so refreshing! I wish I could have tried more. The shop is very small but they have a great flavor selection. Best gelato I've had in Barcelona!
google avatar

Christina N.

Yelp
Their pistachio gelato is TO DIE FOR. Super nutty and creamy, absolutely phenomenal. Don't wait on it!
google avatar

Dena H.

Yelp
Very delicious gelato spot. They have such unique flavors. I highly recommend the tiramisu it was absolutely amazing! For one scoop it was only 2.90 euros!!
google avatar

Yelp
perfectly fresh and sweet. the best texture. super nice staff :) the long line didn't take too long!
google avatar

Mark O.

Yelp
The first night in Barcelona my girlfriend (at the time) and I got to spot by to get some gelato. This is a pro-tip to everybody reading this, if gelato is served in metal tins with lids it's the good stuff. If the gelato stacked higher then the metal container it's not good. In the case, the mostly put air in it. Lastly, if gelato has bright colors it's most likely not authentic.
google avatar

Diana N.

Yelp
I was craving something sweet and checked out Delacrem. I had the Vanilla and Tiramisu gelato with Spanish orchata. All were absolutely fantastic! Do not fret if you see a long line, the employees here hustle and are wonderful and patient folks.
google avatar

Yelp
It was rich, creamy and delicious . I def recommend trying. There was a line but I didn't mind waiting.

Yelp
Please forgive me Father, for I have sinned: I forgot to do a review for the BEST FREAKING GELATO I was lucky to try while in this beautiful, historic, artsy, hip-yet-aged, architecturally pleasing, mega foodie city!! This place fits perfect into the campus surroundings: Super small inside - it's literally big enough for a single-file line to move in and out. There are a few very small tables, so it's a squeeze inside no matter how you look at it. There is cafe table seating outside, which was nice. It seemed more of a take-and-stroll kinda atmosphere, as beautiful nights in Barcelona are a regular occurrence!! DelaCrem takes pride in their ice cream and sorbet. All of their ice cream is homemade daily with gluten-free, fresh ingredients. All of their sorbets are vegan. Because it's almost a year past, I'm having trouble remembering the flavors I chose. I know one was a scope of their Pistachio, which was THE. BEST. PISTACHIO. I'VE. EVER. HAD. Un-freakin-believable! So damn flavorful. Their pistachio is NOT green at all (it's the bottom left scoop in the picture!), which that tells me right there that they don't use any lame-ass flavor syrups or additives. Score!! I HIGHLY recommend you take a stroll over to DelaCrem next time you're in Barcelona... I know I will ;D
google avatar

Maggie C.

Yelp
One of the best ice creams I've ever had. I've gone back many times. I highly recommend the pistachio flavor. The chocolate is also phenomenal. There tends to be a really long line, especially around 9-10pm, but the line moves quick.

Yelp
Over the past decade or so I've been pleased to find that just about every major modern city around the world has it's go-to gelato shop that delivers, and DelaCrem is without question that for the city of Barcelona. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? The lines at DelaCrem can grow long and in some cases overwhelm the tiny little shop, but even so the fast and friendly service do a great job keeping things moving. You've got numerous languages spoken by the staff, and credit cards are accepted even for small orders. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? €4,50 got me a medium portion in a cup with two flavors, which turned out to be a reasonable price given the richness and quality of this gelato. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? This gelato was just about perfect, and my cinnamon caramel combination was fantastically rich with great consistency that didn't melt too quickly, which is a common benchmark for whether they've gotten the sugar and fat content right. Single Star. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? This isn't the best gelato I've had anywhere, but it's the best in Barcelona. Star.

Isabel H.

Yelp
Best ice cream I've had in a long time. Plenty of flavor options and really great location with outdoor seating.

Yelp
For me, summer in Europe always means gelato and in Barcelona, DelaCrem, is one of the best! Owner Massimo Pignata comes from Piedmont, Italy and his gelato is made the way it's supposed to be - fresh daily from seasonal, 100% natural and organic ingredients that were picked from the market just hours earlier. There's only about a dozen or so of these rotating seasonal flavours but each flavour is done right and held in temperature controlled covered containers at about -13°C ensuring the perfect consistency: that point between firm but not hard; and soft but not meltingly so. Be careful though and eat it quickly though! It was about 25 degrees Celsius when I went and less than a minute after leaving the store, the gelato was already starting to melt. I decided to get a small cone (only 2.50€) and chose Leche Merengada and Pistachio for my flavours. The Pistachio was delicious: nutty and creamy with the slightest salty aftertaste. The Leche Merengada is a Catalan flavor with lemon, cinnamon and cream which tastes almost like a horchata in gelato form. Both were wonderful and a perfect way to beat the heat. And to make it even better, the staff were nice enough to top the Leche Merengada with even more cinnamon - great customer service. Definitely worth the walk into L'Eixample district.

Yelp
Located at Carrer d'Enric Granados 15, the nearby University of Barcelona providing a steady stream of traffic during a particularly warm Wednesday in September, it was as an afternoon snack that two visitors sat down at DeLaCrem, the Gelateria opened in 2010 still considered the best in the city with a rotating selection of over one hundred flavors with at least eight new ones available monthly. Originally opened as just a Gelato Shop, the small space since expanding to offer Espresso and a few baked goods with everything made on site and hours beginning at 13h00 on Weekdays and at 09h30 Saturday, it was stepping around a small group enjoying their scoops that the tight store was entered shortly after 15h00, the staff bilingual and happy to offer samples though visibly a bit stressed as every seat in the place was filled with more orders coming. Focusing on classic Italian methods and mostly Organic ingredients, the Milk and Eggs all sourced locally with a focus on Nuts and seasonal Fruits, it should go without saying that although some atypical flavors are found amongst DeLaCrem's collection the vast majority are fairly traditional, the single type of Chocolate bitter and dark while Fruits such as Apple and Grape were each far lighter and very refreshing. Invited to decide amongst several sizes, the largest offering up to four flavors for just €5, it was with the aforementioned Grape alongside Fig, Pistachio and creamy Caramel that a gaping Waffle Cone was topped, each flavor a pure expression of quality ingredients while a slice of Orange Carrot Cake was unfortunately not particularly reminiscent of either Orange or Carrot and remarkably dry as well.

Yelp
Great selection if ice cream of €2.5 a cone, about 20 different options including sorbet. Line is very long sometime but moving fast. I didn't try their pastries and coffee but I saw people order coffee with ice cream. Very tempted to try another time

Yelp
We actually did not come here for the gelato. Originally had planned to go to Brunch and Cake for breakfast but the wait was almost 2hrs. I was on the verge of hunger pains so decided to walk across the street to DelaCrem and get a snack. We got the affogato (hazlenut ice cream with coffee), regular coffee with milk, and 2 croissants. OH EMMM GEEE...the croissant was amazinggggggg and I'm not exaggerating. The drinks were equally as good. Funny enough we were pretty content with our "breakfast" that we didn't wait for our turn at brunch and cake and carried on about our day without feeling any regrets because, OMG that wheat croissant was orgasmic!
google avatar

Jane O.

Yelp
The best chocolate I've ever had! So rich! So creamy! So decadent! Applied pie pastry was delicious as well! We stopped by after dinner and we were so happy we did!
google avatar

Stephen R.

Yelp
Simply the best gelato shop in Barcelona!! It was recommended by our tour guide and we came back everyday ever since our first visit until we leave Barcelona. Best Pistachio flavor ever. Will definitely come back. Until next time!
google avatar

Rose Y.

Yelp
They're cheap with the hazelnuts in the ice cream that I chose. I literally had 1 piece of nut in a 2 scoop ice cream and I finished the whole thing. I also bought 2 brownies that appeared to be delicious only to taste it and say "eh". It tasted like a typical grocery oven baked brownie and the cheap brand too. Customer service is good. Outside seating available.
google avatar

Leigh M.

Yelp
Lovely ice cream shop (heladeria?). I chose their dulce de Leche and gianduja flavors. While my husband combined dulce de Leche and limon (not sure what he was thinking, it's not a good flavor combo). But each flavor by themselves were delicious. Limon sorbet was refreshing and tart. If you're ever in Barcelona I would stop by!
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
So much hype around this place! Excellent gelato but nothing really screams "best gelato in barcelona". Got the pistachio and marscapone & toffee. Pistachio tasted much saltier than expected (almost like burnt caramel) but still good! Wide variety of cool flavors - my friend tried the celery one and yup it indeed tasted exactly like celery.
google avatar

Jasmin G.

Yelp
Mmm so good! We came here twice during our vacation in Barcelona! Always had a line but the line moves fast! Tiny bathroom inside and lots of seating outside. They do take credit card! Flavors rotate but pistachio was really good!
google avatar

Brittany T.

Yelp
Best gelato I've tried in Barcelona! Every time I went, there was always a steady long queue and for good reason. My favorite flavors were hazelnut, yogurt, and dulce de leche. The three scoop is massive and comes with a giant waffle cone.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
Great quiet spot in busy Eixample for a gelato on the patio under a tree. The gelato was delish! I had cinnamon cream and hazelnut. The other treats looked good too. Will likely be back again this week!
google avatar

Aimee R.

Yelp
There's nothing like temperature controlled gelato versus all the other gelato shops with the piles of exposed gelato sitting on display! Delacrem definitely did not disappoint with it's fresh flavors and creamy texture! I like that their flavors change with the seasons, so if you like a flavor you better get your fill of it before it rotates out. Delacrem is a cute little shop with limited seating inside but they also offer some tables outside on the patio with umbrellas. It's a nice family atmosphere where a lot of people just sit and enjoy their yummy goodies, whether it be the pastries that they offer, coffee, or gelato. If you happen to get a seat inside they play great music! Here's what we enjoyed (Basically all the flavors were delicious!) Melocoton blanco (peach): nice and smooth. The peach flavor was wonderful Leche Merengada: A Catalan flavor: lemon, cinnamon, cream Pistachio Fig Coconut Dulce de leche Definitely a place I will come back to if we come back to Barcelona! Restrooms: One shared restroom. I didn't get to use it though.
google avatar

Vy D.

Yelp
Yummy! Very nice folks here that let you sample flavors! (not too common in Europe). My only wish is that they had some chunks mixed into the gelato. I had the whiskey with nuts, while very very good, I wished it had nut pieces stirred in.
google avatar

angela s.

Yelp
Delicious gelato that is infused with pure flavor. Available by the cone or cup, flavors range from coffee, strawberry, banana to roast apples with cinnamon or raspberry beet. There has been a line out the door the last 2 times I passed by and now I know why!
google avatar

Benjamin A.

Yelp
Best ice cream in Barcelona friendly and very patient staff considering the amount of customers; line around the corner. Great ice cream and very pleasant corner to sit and enjoy
google avatar

june k.

Yelp
I am a huge ice cream/gelato eater, super picky and never give any business 5 stars for yelp but this gelato definitely gets a 5!!! Mind blowing- so delicious. I got a medium sized cup with hazelnut and Leche merengada. The hazelnut (avellana) was creamy and had a hint of peanut butter taste. Leche merengada had a cinnamon taste- almost like a horchata in gelato form. Husband got mojoito and cantaloupe. There were mint pieces in the mojoito flavored ice.
google avatar

Maria M.

Yelp
Most cremiest gelato in Barcelona. Delish. Small place but quick service and outside tables to enjoy. Good price too.

James C.

Yelp
While in Italy... we were taught to ignore the gelato from flat trays, and look for the tubs covered by lids on top as the authentic gelato. This place is fabulous! Our group of 7 each purchased different flavor combinations and we all were sampling each other's selections. We were very happy with our decision to walk a little out of our path to come here. Prices reasonable, and wide selection... cups or cones. A few pastries are also available along with coffee and tea!

A M.

Yelp
Stopped by ~5min before closing and there was a line of about 8 people in front of me. When it was finally my turn the woman working seemed irritated to let me sample any of the flavors. I had never been there before, so i needed a minute to decide. After barely 20 seconds talking to me, she got very pushy, saying that they're past closing time, so she was going to move on to the next customer if I didn't decide immediately. This seemed weird to me after seeing the workers chat, laugh and take their time with the customers just before me. So I quickly made a decision and despite apologizing and thanking the woman for helping me, she gave me a much smaller than expected amount of ice cream. My serving barely reached over the top of the medium cup. It appeared far less than what I see posted here. Clearly they don't want me as a customer, so I won't be returning.

Nicole W.

Yelp
We were visiting Barcelona and on the hunt for dessert after our dinner. This place had a long line up of locals so we decided to try this place out. Definitely worth the wait and reasonably priced. I would recommend the hazelnut.
google avatar

Luis C.

Yelp
Unlike other gelato spots that are jam packed with tourists, this place has a very chill vibe. DelaCrem has about 5 tables and a bench outside where you can relax and people watch. There is also some indoor seating, so you will definitely be able to sit down and enjoy some nice creamy gelato. The staff was extremely nice, the gelato was exceptionally good and tasted extremely fresh. I don't think it's better than Gelaaati Di Marco, albeit very close, but it was less expensive and I do think the environment here is waaaaay better. Come give it a try and see for yourself. You will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Hana L.

Yelp
Have been coming to this small café with my friends after work. De la Cream is one of the best spots to get gelato, coffee, tea, and horchata (seasonal option) after a long day at work. Prices are reasonable and the staff are nice. I recommend this small café!
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
The best gelato I've ever had! So creamy and delicious, my favorite flavor was the hazelnut and my husband adored the raspberry and coconut! We came here 3 times during our 4 day stay in Barcelona.
google avatar

Missy S.

Yelp
We were told it's the best ice cream in Spain. It did not disappoint! Had the pistachio and coconut, delicious!
google avatar

Xander H.

Yelp
Smooth, creamy gelato that is definitely comparable to the incredible gelato in Italy. This place covers their gelato and keeps it temperature controlled, which makes it leagues better than those touristy exposed-gelato places on the main streets. The hazelnut and chocolat flavors were incredible. You don't get a lot for your money, but it is still superior to the touristy places. If you prefer quality over large serving size, this is the place to check out!
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
Delacrem is a tiny gelato place tucked right at the corner. They have both indoor and outdoor seating so take your pick! It could get really crowded at times. This gelato place stands out because they rotate their flavours quite frequently which shows good signs that they use nothing but fresh ingredients depending on the season! The flavours are all in Spanish but the staff are super helpful and make sure you're satisfied with your choices! Their gelato is smooth to the palate and rich in flavours. Some of my favourite picks are the platano canario (banana), pistachio and coco. The boniato con miel (sweet potato with honey) for this month's special, was interesting as well! One small cup allows you to choose 2 of your favourite picks at 2.50euros so pick wisely! They do really good affogato (3euros) too, what's best is you could choose what to go with it. Came here several times but delacrem never disappoints. By far, the best gelato here in Barcelona.
google avatar

Carla R.

Yelp
Classic ice cream flavours, made with 100% fruit. Excellent taste! You should have my it. Any of the flavours are delicious.
google avatar

Connie L.

Yelp
This is one of the original gelato you can find in the city. They have their own creative flavor like Pomelo and mint which taste exception! Must try!
google avatar

Sue E.

Yelp
Delicious gelato in a neighborhood setting. We avoid the heaped gelato stores and try to find some well made option. This was it! I enjoyed the hazelnut and pistachio. We might go back tonight...
google avatar

Eric J.

Yelp
We've tried several in Barcelona and this was our favorite. Our roommate who is Italian recommended it. We have to agree the flavors and textures are delicioso.
