Delamore Lodge

"Located on the northwest coast of Waiheke Island—a wine- and art-lover’s playground that’s a 35-minute ferry ride (or 12-minute charter flight) from Auckland—Delamore Lodge has four identical north-facing suites, each with spectacular views across Owhanake Bay. The style is Mediterranean meets Maori. The lodge’s shape was inspired by a matau, or traditional Maori fishhook (each suite has a curving stone-walled interior and a private patio); however, the muted sandy-brown color scheme is pure Tuscany. A large hot tub/sauna complex is laid out like a subterranean grotto. The rest of the lodge is open plan, with a sweeping staircase leading down to a lounge and a kitchen in which a private chef prepares hearty meals. Delamore’s real drawing card is its setting: on a hillside with panoramic views and the sea lapping gently against the stony beach far below."

6 Gorgeous Lodges to Visit on a Road Trip Through New Zealand

"This lodge is built into a cliffside, with views of Owhanake Bay, an hour ferry ride from downtown Auckland. Though meals are available on-site, the array of excellent restaurants and vineyards around the island are worth a visit. After a day of exploring, return to Delamore to wander the gardens, soak in the infinity pool, or treat yourself at the spa." - Gwen McClure Gwen McClure Gwen McClure is an American journalist who’s lived in and written about Auckland, New Zealand since 2016. Delamore Lodge (Waiheke Island, New Zealand) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Delamore Lodge is the archetypal New Zealand lodge hotel — a luxe and secluded guest house in improbably stunning natural surroundings. In this case, the setting is Waiheke Island, a 35-minute ferry ride from Auckland, and the lodge itself a unique four-suite property carved into a hillside facing Owhanake Bay, a surprisingly successful blend of Mediterranean architecture and Maori décor." - Tablet Hotels

The agenda: celebrate 35 years of wedded bliss with a trip of a lifetime down under… the Delamore Lodge was the final stop and boy did they over deliver! From the first greeting upon arrival, to our final parting… the hospitable staff was warm, welcoming and went out of their way to ensure our needs were met. Really fantastic people!||The gorgeous setting served as a backdrop for a serene getaway that was well appointed; having anticipated what most guests would need. The views are stunning and invited many moments of silent awe and appreciation. Delamore Lodge is a quiet place where you can engage or hideaway however you desire. ||The dining at the Delamore is phenomenal. We chose to dine in during our multi-night stay and had the privilege of Chef Sean’s culinary wizardry. The lamb? Best I have ever had… which is also true for the duck. Don’t even get me started on the falafel canapé because it was so deceptively simple looking/sounding that I totally underestimated how mind blowing it could be. Seriously - I am still salivating over it. Everything we ate was delicious… Chef Sean is incredibly talented and someone in the culinary arts to follow.||We had an amazing time. The Delamore Lodge, its staff, accommodations, and food exceeded all expectations!

We had a truly special weekend at Delamore Lodge. From Adam’s warm welcome at the ferry to our departure, everything was flawless. The team were genuine, professional, and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. The lodge itself is beautiful, with wonderful shared spaces, and the attention to detail was outstanding.

Our stay at the Delamore Lodge was fantastic! The lodge is unique and comfortable, with an incredible view. We loved waking up in the morning to the ocean view from our room and hiking down to the nearby bay. The service is phenomenal, very friendly and attentive staff. The food is 10/10-so fresh and we enjoyed trying the local foods! Wonderful breakfast by the fire each morning, evening appetizers, and the “Trust the Chef” dinner we had as fantastic. If you are looking for a charming lodge and great cuisine, the delamore is the place for you!

We spent 4 nights at Delamore Lodge to begin our trip in New Zealand, and this was the perfect way to start. The view from the hotel (lobby, pool, patio, dining room, and rooms) is absolutely gorgeous. The staff was friendly, kind and attentive. The rooms are spacious, and have great outdoor space to use as well. We loved the tranquility.

My wife and I stayed at the Delamore Lodge for our honeymoon, and we definitely picked the right spot. The rooms were spacious and luxurious. The bathroom was huge and fancy. It's unlike anything we've stayed at before! Not to mention the staff are so friendly, they recommended and booked us dinners on the nights we weren't dinning in. The spa treatments were divine! And the pool overlooking the Hauraki Gulf actually left us awe struck. I'd highly recommend staying at the Delamore Lodge if you can, even for a night. It's pricey! But so worth every penny 💜

We arrived by helicopter, and received a nice tour by the pilot which oriented to the area. The caveat to the helicopter is that it is not located at Auckland airport, but instead it is 20-30 min drive toward Auckland. Also, there are also limited timeframes within which you can land at the hotel instead of at Waiheke’s airport. |The lodge has gorgeous views over the ocean. It is situated within a few minutes drive to town, but far enough away to feel remote. It was easy to get taxis and the lodge would drive you to places on the island and pick you up if it was before 9 pm. |There are a couple of very nice hiking trails within walking distance of the lodge. |Our room had a large common area with kitchenette and two bedrooms. The main bedroom was fairly large and had a fabulous balcony. The other bedroom was quite small and did not have an en-suite bathroom. The large jacuzzi for the hotel was interesting, but more of a large very warm pool with few jets. |The staff were attentive and very responsive to requests. |The tasting menu and wine pairing was truly exceptional. I would return for that alone. Breakfast was good, but not nearly as good as the tasting. That said, the pastries were incredible.

The location, views from your room and public areas, the service with all the little details covered including the welcome bottle of Methode Traditionelle, food platter, well prepared and presented meals in the dining area, super comfy King size beds all made the experience remarkable. The staff being super friendly and welcoming was the icing on the cake. Well done!

Yelp
Can I live here?! My boyfriend I planned a large vacation in New Zealand last year. We spent a couple weeks living out of a van to truly have the best experience and see the most of this beautiful country. We new we wanted to splurge and relax at the end of our trip so we ended here. And boy, was that the best decision ever! Our chef, Brenton, who happened to be the one picking us up from the port and returning us as well- was incredible. He was so friendly and has pure talent. This lodge is such an intimate, unique and breathtaking place. A real treat and I highly recommend to any one visiting the island!!

Yelp
Wife and I just arrived from a long day's travel from the USA the 3rd week of March 2017. Took the Half Moon Bay car ferry over (a pleasure -try their "cheese and onion toasties" they're delicious), and were really delighted with my choice to splurge and stay here at the Delamore Lodge. Concierge Angie was a delight with checking us in. She was also very responsive and helpful via email with our planning and booking here. Loved our room with stunning views. Exactly as advertised. Comfortable, clean and updated. That's what we like. Where this small boutique lodge shines and I was pleased to discover is the level of quality of the food that the staff 5 star chef Brian provides. A true gourmet breakfast is included in the rate. We decided to reserve in advance his dinner with wine pairings for our first night of arrival. Wife has Celiac, and that presented no trouble here for her meal's adjustments. Wow, what a wonderful dinnerl! Intimate and just wonderful presentation, flavor, and quality....this was a memorable meal, and I highly recommend you take advantage of this as my photos tell all. It was like having your own staff 5 star chef prepare your superb meal and served as if you were having it in your luxury home. Wife and I also ordered massages the next morning which were excellent and recommended as well. They have an oversized clean indoor jetted spa that I used and enjoyed. The attractive infinity outdoor pool was appealing and even though it was heated, it wasn't quite warm enough for my preference as the weather was getting chilly and rainy at night for Autumn. And I really can't fault it for not being warm enough considering the current chill. We decided to try a bit of hiking on the coastal trails surrounding the lush and beautiful property. Loved being able to drive our rental car around Waiheke, seeking out wineries to taste responsibly and have orders shipped back home. Waiheke is an easy to navigate island, and well worth exploring and driving to the more remote areas on the other side.. We had lunch at Mudbrick and a dinner at Cable Bay Vineyard, which were both quite good just a little too intensely touristy....but all in all I regret not having that second night's dinner prepared intimately just for us by chef Brian. That's a luxury travel feature I value greatly. We would definitely recommend the Delamore Lodge to all, and we would certainly stay here again in the future. This visit was a highlight memory during our wonderful 18 day trip though NZ. Room Tip: Lower rooms with garden patios offer beautiful unobstructed water and coastal views.
