This Surreal National Park Has 2,000+ Natural Stone Arches, Starry Night Skies, and a Scenic 18-mile Drive

"The park's most iconic hike leads to Delicate Arch, a 46-foot-tall showstopper reached by a roughly three-mile round-trip trail with about 480 feet of elevation gain; it's particularly impressive at sunrise, and there are also Lower and Upper Delicate Arch viewpoints (the Upper provides better visibility but requires climbing stairs)." - Stephanie Vermillion Stephanie Vermillion Stephanie Vermillion is a travel journalist and photographer covering culture and adventure for Travel + Leisure Outside, and more. 51 Most Romantic Places in the U.S.A.

"Love is powerful, but it can sometimes be delicate — and you can marvel at a similarly fragile treasure at Arches National Park. Although this geologic feature is now widely known as Delicate Arch, it's also been called many other colorful names, like 'Cowboy's Chaps' and 'Old Maid's Bloomers.'" - Travel + Leisure Editors

The Delicate Arch hike is absolutely worth it. It’s about three miles round trip and a bit of a workout, especially in the heat, but the views make it completely worth it. The trail starts off easy and then gets steeper with a mix of slickrock and sandy sections. When you finally reach the arch, it feels unreal. The scenery is beautiful and the size of the arch is amazing to see in person. Bring plenty of water, wear sunscreen, and start early if you can. Sunrise and sunset are both incredible times to go. This is one of those hikes you’ll never forget.

What a beautiful area, Delicate Arch is awesome. The hike up had great terrain change & some challenges but rewarding. Truly amazing! We enjoyed Aches NP & hope to return some day.

This is the most spectacular arch in the park for me and a must visit point. The trail that leads to it is quite strenuous, takes about an hour. The view during the hike is also awesome, you can look around the views when taking a break. The trail is on top of enormous rocks, so there is no where to hide from sun, take water and apply sun protection. The arch is speechless, just see the pictures I took. If you have time, you can watch the sunset here.

The hike took us about 2 hours to finish. It went up hill about 600ft. Not too difficult, but the scenery was majestic. The arch was great photo opp of course.

Awesome view at sunsets. The trail to the arch is rugged and takes about a hour on a hot sunny day. Bring enough water!

We had an amazing experience hiking to Delicate Arch! Our local friend suggested starting early in the morning, and that was the best advice. We began the hike at around 5:30 am, taking our time, and reached the Arch by about 6:50 am. Watching the sunrise from up there was magical. When we arrived, there were only about 8–10 people, so it felt peaceful and quiet. By the time we left around 8 am, the trail was getting busy with many people climbing up, so early morning is definitely the way to go if you want to avoid crowds. The hike itself wasn’t too difficult—just a little steep in parts—but manageable, even in the dark. Important tip: if you plan to hike between 7 am and 4 pm, you will need a timed-entry reservation for the park. Totally worth the effort for the breathtaking view at the top!

The highlight of Arches National Park, Delicate Arch, is worth the trek. The hike is long and tiring, but reaching the arch makes every step worthwhile. My kids completed the journey and found it to be a truly wonderful experience, making the challenge even more rewarding.
