What Basic Economy to Europe Will Be Like

"Delta Air Lines will offer basic economy service on more than half of its flights between North America and Europe starting April 10. Boarding will occur in the last zone. Delta introduces a checked bag fee for transatlantic routes: $60 for the first bag and $100 for the second. Without checked baggage, the fare difference is approximately $50. Seat assignments will be given at check-in or at the gate, with no guarantee of seating together for passengers traveling together. The in-flight experience is similar to regular economy, providing free snacks, entertainment, and meals on long-haul flights. Basic economy fares are not changeable, and no upgrades are available, even for SkyMiles Medallion status holders. Partners Air France-KLM and Alitalia will also offer a similar basic fare product."

Do you enjoy spending extra time with your friends and family - then the ticket check in for this airlines is for you! 2 extra hours to get 41 of my closest friends through the ticket line. I appreciate the minimal staff and lack of efficiency - this allowed my group to spend so much extra stationary time together! Once everyone was ticketed and on the plane things were going well EXCEPT a small delay which would cause our connection to be tight. Again - love the attention to our quality time together. Nothing brings a group closer than soul crushing anxiety in a foreign country. Once the group landed in Paris from Dublin the focus shifted from quality time to physical fitness as they all had to run full tilt to get through security again. They made it to the gate with 9 whole minutes - thankfully they sprinted out the need to use the facilities! The focus on quality time and physical fitness was a joyful addition to our trip! Once our group arrived to O'Hare - the focus then shifted away from fitness and back to quality time. We got to spend an additional couple hours together working on our arts and crafts as everyone in the group got to fill out a missing baggage claim. This was only slightly problematic due to the perspiration from the earlier physical fitness. The one positive I can glean from this experience is that the plane did indeed land at the correct airports.

Lack of structure. Plan to arrive 3 hours early if you have to sit through this airport on Friday. The agents do not facilitate or structure the self check in bag checks from the normal lines, which renders it useless. Took almost 1.5 hrs to make it to an agent and missed my flight, I arrived two hours early for a domestic flight. Had to get rerouted to another airport and was told it’s my responsibility to get get my luggage. Fly out of elsewhere if possible.

This plane is NASTY! The exit row door looks like it’s falling apart and there are nats all over the place… glad I’m an AMEX Delta card holder…

They are doing well with the staff and they activities worldwide ,however, I was hungry during the flight from Atlanta to Athens in April in the first 2025 .

I paid extra to have an assigned seat with my family during a trip consisting of two flights with a layover in Atlanta. In the morning, at my original airport, I was given a two boarding passes with the seats I had paid extra to reserve. At the gate in Atlanta, as we were boarding the plane, they scanned my boarding pass, printed another one, and handed it to me. It had a different seat than the one I had chosen, so I didn't get to sit with my family. After my trip, I contacted customer service. They wanted my ticket number, which I provided (along with my original receipt from Delta, a photo of the original boarding pass, and a photo of the revised boarding pass I received at the gate). I requested that they refund me the additional fee I paid for the seat reservation. Customer service, who only communicate by email and obviously just copy/paste pre-written blocks of text to assemble moderately coherent messages, claimed that Delta would have sent me a separate "ticket number" acknowledging my payment of the seat assignment fee (they did not), and refused to reimburse me anything at all. I'd say find a better airline, but, at this point, aren't they all garbage?

Just fyi, Christopher in Detroit went above & beyond helping my sense of direction-less self get out of the airport (don't judge, people be lost 🤷🏾‍♀️). He walked with me from near Sky Lounge(?) to as far as was possible, repeating himself and ensuring I got it the whole time-taxing at the very least. Having anxiety disorders and comprehension problems in new settings, this meant SO much to me. Such a small gesture for him made my entrance to Detroit easier and I felt seen and important. Christopher did not have to help me, but he did. So thank you for your service & know that your kindness is appreciated 🙏🏾💚🙏🏾

My son's flight was delayed and we went to go ask our next steps; because it was our first time experiencing a delayed flight with a connector flight still on time. Nadine was the rudest agent I have ever experienced. She made rude and insensitive commments while "helping" us. I was outdone with the amount of disrespect and terrible value for someone using their airline. Im still very much upset at her behavior. DELTA THIS CAN NOT BE THE TYPE OF PEOPLE YOU HIRE...

Google
Flight 5152 Cleveland Ohio to Detroit. Detroit based crew! The steward are rude.... the black lady is the rudest person... she threatened me to go to the captain..smh...wow... I'm trying to get my bag together... now get ur attitude together..shame on u... Delta for hiring such a evil person.. Bye. Too many other airlines with better customer service and nowadays same price..I wish I would have read the reviews before booking

Yelp
Kiosks were about half strength today meaning long lines and a crowded start to the first crowds of the day. The service team got everyone taken care of - it's just a cramped space with few service agents to help when the kiosks are not at full strength (all of them working). The airport was stuffy/still without air movement - which added to the frustrations.

Yelp
So if doing a puddle jumper on first class, do know the bigger more comfortable seats may be in the middle. Called comfort economy. Premium Economy. So if feeling robbed due to cost. Do know it may have more of an international configuration for a plane that they don't use to travel over oceans anymore. The seats are mostly comfortable leg length wise. But you won't get the width of traditional front front class seats. I measure for those that read my reviews.

Yelp
The flight left on time and arrived on time. No issues. No issues with the check in. Supposedly they are short staffed but on this particular visit I couldn't tell. Everything went smoothly which is always a plus when flying. I will definitely looking to use them again whenever I decide to fly.

Yelp
I generally use Delta because I have a points card. This time I used my points for a flight and got First Class round trip. The flights were nice, the first class isn't what it used to be, and should probably be renamed Snacks & Drinks class, but the seats were large and comfy. The Attendants were always pleasant and I adore the new color scheme and many different uniform pieces.

Yelp
As always Delta is no help at all! I have been trying to call Delta for weeks, but can't even get placed in line to be on hold. It just hangs up! I come to the Delta counter for my flight today, and I ask if I can change my upcoming flight. She tells me to go to the Delta phones between gates B2 and B4. I can't get passed the hold lines there cause it keeps placing me back at the front of the queue after a certain amount of time. So I go to my gate for this current flight and He tells me to call or go back to the Delta phones, cause he doesn't have time to help me. So he can help, but he won't, but he sure has time to stand there and shoot the shit with his co-workers! His name Is Matt! This is bad Delta.

Yelp
I paid extra for care plus. I got the same size seat as everyone else. There was no room for my carryon, so I had to leave it on the jetway. Then they lost it. I paid more and got worse service. Do not pay extra for nothing. Waste of money.

I Am T.

Yelp
This morning has been hectic due to boarding issues and receiving our boarding passes, HOWEVER- thanks to patience, understanding and help of a few employees (RDU-Delta's SARAH, who was wonderful and Helena, both tremendously helpful) and the kindness and help of the telephone agents...we were able to get a new flight within a couple hour and half of missing our original flight. Thank you! To the above mentioned Delta teammembers! Patience goes long ways.

Yelp
Disappointed in my changed schedule. I booked a flight to go to Ohio from California to see my dad that is recouping from hip surgery and to be with him for his 96th birthday. The flight I booked was supposed leave California at 1:10 pm. And get to Ohio at 10:48 They sent me a email that my flight was canceled and would be leaving 11:47 am. Things going to Ohio were not so bad other then leaving a little over a hour early and making two stops along the way. However my return trip is a whole other story. I was supposed to leave at 3:30 pm from Cleveland and had a short layover in Minneapolis then a short layover in Salt Lake City. Now I am losing my entire morning that we had plans to spend together. (As I said he is 96 and god forbid it may be our last time we see each other. ) I have to get up at 4:30 in the morning and leave by 5:30 am to make it to the Cleveland airport for a flight out at 8:30. So we won't get to spend that last morning together extremely disappointed. And I called Delta, directed me to someone that was not able to help at all and if I wanted to change my flight ( that I did not choose ) it would cost another $150.00 Now the topper of all of this is, I have to leave early and take a flight to Minneapolis and there I will be sitting for a 8 hour layover. time that I could of spent with my dad!! Thanks Delta for really messing with my time with my 96 year old dad!!

Yelp
Unreal. I spent almost an hour trying to get checked in. This is crazy. Why cant Delta be more efficient???? Once again get into atl and get totally blown off on the wheelchair. What is the problem

Yelp
I'm absolutely astonished on how bad DELTA Airlines customer service is. Delta airlines continues to show that they DO NOT care about their customers. Every department I'm transferred to says that "this is out of my capability let me transfer you." I've been trying to locate a lost bag from DELTA since my girlfriend flew on 1/1/22. Delta's customer service legit does not care to find the bag, I can't even enter the lost bag information online because when I type in my bag# that was provided it comes up as a red exclamation saying that this information is not correct..... I'm sorry that's what you gave me... so since I cannot enter that online I go to the message ap... "This is out of my capability let me transfer you." Still waiting to be transferred since 1/1..... legit go to another airline because if something goes wrong they DO NOT CARE about you as a customer/person.

Yelp
Service was really good on the plane. I traveled on a cold night and sat near the window. I hope to never do that again. The chill comes thru, so when you are trying to sleep on the cabin, it is sooooo cold. The right side of my body was perfect, but the left side felt like -10 Not much leg space either. Generally I like Delta except for the leg space...too little for a guy that's 6'1"

Yelp
I primarily fly Delta out of DTW, as I am a credit card member and I get 1 free checked bag per trip. I've had some issues with them, but generally customer service is good - if you're ever in a pinch, you can tweet @DeltaAssist and they reply super fast, too - and planes aren't too delayed. I've only had one flight ever been canceled, EWR to DTW, and that was because of weather, or so they said. Planes are usually pretty clean and the Delta terminal at DTW is really nice too - they renovated it a bit back. Love the monorail. My last flight was to Atlanta, back in October 2014 (side note: Atlanta is also a DTW hub and it's a HUGE airport. I've been there 3 times now, since a friend lives there, but always forget it's so big!), and I had no issues. I usually fly 3-4 times per year - last year was Anaheim, Nashville, and Atlanta, for flights, and this year is going to be Fort Lauderdale and L.A., if not more - and I've used Delta for all of those flights. I do want to try out Southwest at some point, since Delta can be pricey, but it all depends how badly you want to search for bargains ... I just booked my FTL flight for April for $186 because they were running a sale.

Yelp
I love them. The agents in CLE are incredibly helpful and friendly. The airline that employees me eliminated all direct flights from CLE to RDU, so Delta moved in on that market and got me home the other day. From the gate agents (especially Jon!) to the pilots to the flight attendants, they were incredibly helpful and awesome. Thank you for being wonderful. It is great to have colleagues in the aviation industry who are willing and able to help each other get from Point A to Point B. I am so very grateful for our jumpseat agreements with Delta.

Yelp
Love delta ! I use to be terrified of flying , but delta always makes me feel safe ! I recently had to go on my first flight alone & I chose to fly with delta because I knew they'd take care of me the best ! Never any issues !!! They're amazing ! My favorite airline !

Yelp
So tired of Delta not being able to manage weather delays and reassign crew. Flights 2-4 hours delayed waiting on crews! My advise fly Southwest!
google avatar

Logan G.

Yelp
I absolutely love flying Delta. The crew and staff at the airport are fantastic. They are always more than happy to help! The planes are clean and the seats are comfortable. Luckily in the Delta terminal there is plenty to choose in terms of food and drink from coffee shops, a wine bar and a subway!

Yelp
Worst ever! If you value customer service in where you put your money. This is not the place. BOTTOM line: $25 in Delta's pocket was more important the my inconvenience of going through security 3 times. Yes, because the ticketing agents value $25 check bag fee more then me having to suffer through security 3 times, I will never use DELTA again. DELTA HAS NO REGARD FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have 3 trips planned and I will not fly DELTA. It's called CUSTOMER service ...look it up

Yelp
Flew from CLE to ATL and then to SJU yesterday. I gotta say, it was a great experience. Both planes were bigger than a puddle jumper, which made me happy because I don't like small planes. We left a few minutes late, but we made up the time in the air. It was a long day of travel, but the Delta staff were mostly friendly. I received more food on this flight than any flight in a long time. They threw in free headphones and an in flight movie, which was very entertaining. The only oddity that I noticed was their boarding process. Because we are not Delta Sky Elite or whatever, they made us enter the gate through a make-shift line that was only six inches away from the Delta Sky Elite line. It was pretty funny. They had two parallel lines, both going to the same place - the gate. I accidentally walked through the elite line area, even though there were no people in it. I was promptly ushered back to walk "around" the turnstile only to end up where I was confronted by the delta gate employee. Picture a triangle with corners labeled A, B, C. I walked from A to C and was told that my kids and I had to walk from B to C instead, which we did, while laughing at the employee for making me jump through hoops in front of 50 strangers who were also rolling their eyes and snickering. They also did not let us board early because we had children with us in Cleveland. In fact, we were asked to step aside while people in other zones boarded first. When we left Atlanta, they insisted that we board first because we had young kids. Why does Cleveland Delta suck and Atlanta Delta rule? Who knows, but I'd guess that it has to do with Delta's biggest hub being in Atlanta. And they didn't lose any of our five bags! Good job, Delta!

Yelp
*how can we help? i want a full refund i was rudely handled by an agent named london, marylyn, and later by a man named terry. i was handled horrifically by all of them and have never been so insulted and mishandled by a bunch of brutes - a saving grace was a lady not affiliated with delta i am uploading her information and her name was bryn. i intend on writing this up completely and pursing an attorney if this is not handled i was misdirected and refused the managers name by terry. london was argumentative and appeared to be carrying the world on her shoulders.

Yelp
I love Delta. I try to fly them every chance I get.

Yelp
My daughter's first flight alone and it was horrible. She was rebooked 6x and finally the last time rebooked to the next day. She lost an entire day of her trip to FL and no mention about how they plan to compensate her! Also, no reason was ever given as to "why" there were all the delays. Then coming home from her trip, she was delayed again. Thank God this time was only 1x. It was the worst experience for her. Of course, she emailed Delta and asked about compensation for the lost day, but no response as of yet. Not surprising! First and LAST TIME flying Delta Won't ever fly them again! Southwest is the BEST airline!

Yelp
I had an awful experience with this airline. I booked a flight to San Francisco through Minneapolis for my family of 5. I booked as far in advance as I was able to. They changed the flight to make it through Atlanta. I double checked that I still had seating assignments and I did. I received a couple more emails with flight updates, but everything looked the same. My flight is tomorrow and I learned today as I checked in that on May 21st the actuator the airline uses just released my seating assignment. They're not sure why, so we will be scrounging now to find whatever seat on the plane. So much for booking far in advance to have good seats.

Yelp
The teamwork involved in the multiple airlines at this airport makes even the best airports in the country seem awful. Clark and Destinee at the ticket counter are outstanding, friendly, punctual, and utterly amazing people, I am so happy to say that I flew Delta and thank you everyone at US Airways for switching my flight to a direct flight on Delta! Touché!

Yelp
I recently flew with Delta on a round trip to St. Louis (STL) from Akron/Canton (CAK) with connections in Detroit (DTW), and was very impressed with the friendliness and availability of Delta staff at all three airports. Having encountered surly airline staff as kind of a norm in the past with other airlines, smiling/attentive Delta employees really stood out as a rarity. Also, all of my flights were basically on time and baggage handling was very efficient. Prices were comparable with other major airlines. And I LOVE that Delta still has curbside check-in at STL - makes checking a bag so easy. Based on this experience I will definitely fly with Delta again, and I hope my positive experience will repeat itself!

Yelp
Staff in Cleveland is excellent. My flight wAs cancelled and they worked so incredibly hard to get us on a flight out! Calling delta was a whole other story. But the staff in Cleveland is great and the pilots got me there and back!

K M.

Yelp
I had to cancel a nonrefundable flight due to a medical issue. I had to wait a long time on hold BUT the customer service representative was very helpful and was able to credit most of my flight. Thanks Delta!

Yelp
Took me 15 hours to get from Tampa, FL to Cleveland OH. Please note that it only takes 21 hours to drive the same distance. The flight was delayed and no on in the Atlanta airport seemed at all interested in helping the passengers get to their destination. I only got home in 15 hours because I turned on my "let me talk to a manager now" mode. The other passengers did not get home until 10:30 the following day. This is unacceptable to me and I am sure to most of the other passengers. Since 4 planes to Cleveland went out after my originally scheduled flight, I am sure that they could have given us excellent service, if they had wanted to do so.

Yelp
Horrible customer service line, outsourced outside America. Also a horrible website for booking flights. Website shows one price you then go to book it and get all the way through and then it shows an error message instructing you to call. When you call in the customer service agent quoted the same price to me then when she went to book it told me she could not book it for that price and quoted me a price $50 higher stating that the system needed to update. They then offer you nothing except a listing of other flights and prices as if I was not sitting at a computer looking at the same thing. UPDATE your website Delta so that when someone starts booking a flight for a certain price and thats the last seat left remove it from the website so no one else can attempt to purchase that seat, much like any website for a sporting event. Get with the times and stop pissing off your potential customers.
