"I do a lot of shopping in Chinatown for personal needs and the restaurant, too. I stroll on Mott Street and buy produce from the street vendors and hit up Hong Kong Supermarket (157 Hester St.) and Deluxe Meat Market (122 Mott St.) for all other goods." - Calvin Eng

"Deluxe Meat Market [on Mott Street] in Manhattan Chinatown is one of the best grocery stores in town. Since 2001, the family-owned business has been serving beautifully butchered meats, live seafood, farm-fresh seasonal vegetables, homemade pastries, and house-roasted barbecue in a thin, neon-lit strip between Mott Street and Elizabeth Street. It's a little paradise in there, complete with cured duck and frozen soup dumplings."

We ended up frequenting this not so deluxe market because the pharmacy my MIL uses gave out gift cards after x number of prescription fills. The market is narrow but spans the block between Elizabeth and Mott St. Half of the market serves groceries and the other, cooked foods. We primarily consume at the latter, which consists of a bakery, a BBQ counter, a sushi section, and hot food counter. Prices are generally good and competitive. But a few times we would get fooled by a few bargains. They would flip or hide the burnt side of pork and put them on clearance, only for people like me who took the bait to find out the whole thing was inedible. We have caught them cheating on non-sale items as well. For example, hiding wing tips under the duck wings, attempting to mislead by placing a case of 8 plain dumplings in front of a buffet of fried dumplings which only come with 5 pieces, etc. Every staff I have interacted with are not friendly if not outright rude, and will stiff you as if it’s their own business. The cashier lines are normally long and chaotic. In other words, even though the prices are good, the experiences have been awful. I can really care less about this place; unfortunately, I will have to be back - thanks to the gift cards from the pharmacy.

This Asian food market is a one-stop shop for all your Chinese food cravings. They have sections for poultry, frozen dumplings, hot pot, seafood, fresh vegetables, baked goods, roast meats, sushi, hot foods, and more. At the hot foods section, you can get a whole platter of vegetables and meat for under $5. We got a pork and veggies platter for $4.75 and a sago coconut milk for $1.75. You can also get congee for under $4 here. There's so many things that you can buy just for a couple dollars at this food market. Deluxe Food Market is so bustling The place is packed from beginning to end and during meal times, it's shoulder to shoulder, which can get overwhelming. If you come at night before closing there's big market discounts on the food!

Google
This market is busy, filled with people, and can be pretty overwhelming. However, there is a large section of boxes goods and prepared foods you can order. If you can get lucky, as for the fluffy scallion pancakes. They have plain and beef filled, but I think plain is better if you can get your hands on it! Nothing fancy, but it’s supposed to be only $2 each, and you can’t beat that for a warm bread.

Google
They have really good and cheap already made, to-go food box. But there’s also a few seats that you can kind of dine in. I had chicken rice and dumpling box, it was actually good! I’ll try roast duck box next time.

Deluxe Food Market is a hidden gem! It's a great place to experience authentic local flavors at budget-friendly prices. I left feeling satisfied and eager to return.

Google
This place is absolutely amazing for the amount of fresh meats and produce you can find. I will say that if you don't speak Chinese that it can be hard to get a word in/the attention of workers. I stood for a couple of minutes trying to get someone's attention. It is a bit awkward but once you have them in sight they help. I definitely will be back though as the prices are really good and afforable.

Ruby

Google
I was here mainly for the large and really well stocked bakery section. Gets really busy during lunch hours, so be prepared to stand in line at the cashiers with Chinese uncles pushing you every which way! The food is really good value for money, and you would do well going here for staples like the giant BBQ pork buns over some local takeaways. I also really liked their cocktail buns. Definitely check out this place when you’re in the are. Just don’t make my mistakes and grab so much food “as a snack for later” that you spoil your dinner, lmao

Google
Not your traditional supermarket. Market with a large selection of prepared and cooked Chinese dishes for takeout. Does also have a Chinese bakery on-site as well as a meat market and a small stall with vegetables. Quite a good variety of dishes available to go.

Yelp
Deluxe Food Market, an Asian food hall, expansive yet narrow, extending from Elizabeth Street to Mott. Didn't realize until this visit the full extent of its offering, given being slightly off-put by the slight scent of what is potentially cat. Decided to explore it and glad I did! First, the classical music over the entire hall's speakers help differentiate Deluxe Food Market experience from the frenetic street hawkers and Chinatown food shops. Entered through a wide selection of stalls with reasonably priced baked items and prepared foods, with several affordable smaller price options qualifying as good cheap eats. I selected a freshly prepared, warm Steamed Rice Roll with Roast Pork for just over $3 and a huge Roast Pork Bun for $2.50! Note, there are several high cafe tables to stand and eat at. Both my choices were tasty - the Bun was significantly larger than what I've had elsewhere for the same price, plus the bread had a slightly sweet crust with black sesame. Beyond this prepared food section, you'll find produce, seafood, fish, and assorted cuts of meats - offering all parts of the butchered animal. There is also more prepared foods at the opposite street entrance. Definitely I'll be back to explore many of the other prepared food options. You may find Deluxe Food Market worthwhile to check out too!

Yelp
Don't really get the hype around this place. Like yeah, it's cheap, but you get what you pay for, and it's a hot mess inside so navigating your way around is a headache. We came here to try the scallion pancake after seeing so many reviews about how fluffy it was. I thought the flavor was solid, but it was definitely on the oily side, and kind of cold when we got it?

Yelp
Came here on a weekend at lunch. Left very full and satisfied. Bring cash! The place was absolutely packed from front to back. Expect many locals getting through or ordering before you if you aren't ready! I'd recommend planning what to order before you get up to the counter. Also, they don't speak english (only canto), but either grabbing a prepacked item or pointing works pretty well! Was shocked by the prices - they were much lower than expected, and even some of the lowest in chinatown! Roast duck half - $16, whole $31. probably the cheapest (and arguably best) counter roast duck Ive had in chinatown. Note since the duck was packaged it wasn't hot, which was a little sad but still yummy. 1 entree 1 veggie - 7$, plus 1$ extra for chow fun instead of rice. Sooooo yummy and flavorful! This was enough food for 2 meals, if not 3. Was shocked by the variety of food there was to choose from - they had all the classics and more! I got the stir fried veggies and hong shao rou. No seating, but there are a few tables to stand and eat at. They take card over $10, but since lots of their items are under $10 i'd recommend bringing cash. Also note the check out line can take a while, the grannies and grandpas take their time! :) Overall would definitely come back soon to this local food hall. Note their grocery store section, despite being smaller than places like hk supermarket, had some of the brands of sauces I had been looking for and couldnt find elsewhere! Additional point.

Yelp
The pork belly is sooooo good!! You will have to heat up your food since it's room temperature! Its a possibility for language barrier if you don't speak mandarin, its alot of food walk up meat counters inside and they will cut and weigh it infront of you! The service was cool! The portions were great!

Yelp
Love the eggtarts and pancakes. The Chinese way of preparing them is much different than what we usually eat. Chicken dumplings are good. Many different drinks and food here I enjoyed at the market. Nice people and good professionals. I had a wonderful experience.

Yelp
They have the fluffiest scallion pancake - it's SO good and it's only $2. There is a lot of people because it's a market but go in and try it. The line to pay is long but still worth it.

Yelp
Beef bone broth for $2, fresh tendon, and beautiful veggies. Highly recommend coming here for a high quality meal

Yelp
Great casual food market in Chinatown. A lot of Chinese hot food classics that are packed to order. There are some prepackaged options as well. And a bakery section. No seating, but some tables to stand at and eat. Everything is reasonably priced. I got Nuomiji, which came with 2 lotus wrapped portions for around $6. It was filled with chicken, mushroom, and egg. A lot of rice, but a decent amount of filling as well (though the filling could've been seasoned more). I saw a massive roast pork bun for around $2.5 as well but I didn't pick it up. $10 credit card minimum
google avatar

Yelp
Completely overwhelming experience, especially if you don't speak fluent Cantonese. The older generation who shop there will absolutely push in front of you to order and the workers will take their order instead of yours. Maybe the workers aren't comfortable with Mandarin or English. They will ignore you until they realize you're not going away.

Yelp
Great store stretching a block long (cross-wise), with a huge and interesting variety of offerings in both raw foods -- butcher-shop meats, fish, and fresh vegetables -- and a considerable section for cooked foods. Very good value. And the only meat/grocery store I know that plays classical music!
google avatar

Christina Y.

Yelp
This is a great Asian market! I can get hot food to eat right away or pick up groceries to share at home. Whenever I travel to NYC I end up here to get a few bites to eat right away and always take home some dried meat. The dried meat is the best to make a nice "bow zi fan" which is a bowl of rice with all the flavors of the meat!
google avatar

Sillyrama A.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast. They seem to have a wide selection, but everything is lukewarm. I picked up the standard fare - buns, youtiao, rice rolls, lotus leaf wraps. Nothing piping hot. There are a few standing tables. It's also extremely hectic. I would not eat there and have to take the food home to zap in the microwave.

Yelp
Hidden in the lesser known to tourist area of Manhattan's Chinatown district, this place is a great stop for quick bites, baked goods and fresh veggies/fruits. It is a long and narrow market with fresh produce , meats and seafood on one end and ready made food on the other. You can exit/enter from two different streets. Service is quick and no frills- but prices are very good. You are literally paying half price to comparables on Canal Street. Don't expect anything fancy- this is mostly a locals spot but well worth a visit for the taste and price.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Not the place for me. Each time I try to buy something from here some old lady always pushes herself in front of me when I'm finally about to order. The staff does nothing and ignores me when I tell my order. Also their prices is only a few cents cheaper than other grocery stores with food and the zhongzhi isn't any better; very little filling.

Richard J.

Yelp
Food is good, but some stuff seemed like they've been sitting out all day and dry. Services is good, but cashiers tend to try to push products on you stacked by the register. Place gets very crowded, sometimes you're unable to move, but people still trying to push through anyway!
google avatar

Yelp
The Deluxe Food Market is a Chinese market that has peking duck, roasted pork, a hot food bar, a bakery, a selection of produce, and raw and marinated meats/seafood. You can definitely find parts of the animal that you won't normally be able to find in mainstream grocery stores. We saw many people standing around and eating some hot food from the bar; there were older grandmas getting meats from the butcher section, haggling with the butchers. I did notice that the meats did look fresh and the prices seem pretty competitive. Just note that the place is super pungent, so those who are sensitive to smells would have issues. The place is also jampacked with people, so navigating through can be a bit difficult. There are two entry/exit points, so you can literally go through and exit on the other side. +competitively-priced meats/seafood

Kate L.

Yelp
BEWARE cashiers here are scammers!! The cashier kept pushing me to buy this pack of chicken wings and I had to tell her no several times. She kept trying to scan the item and put it in my bag and I would have to stop her. I turned around to grab something and she scanned 2 packs of the chicken wings and put it in my bag. I didn't realize until I got home.

Yelp
Impressive range and variety of grocery/market items as well as prepared foods. Very popular and busy. Food was ok, good but not extremely notable, especially for the area. Would return to try other items and would definitely recommend to others to try.

Patty Y.

Yelp
Great place if you like takeout food, greasy and salty food and rude service. Great variety of cooked dishes, dim sum, noodles, dumplings, soups, meat and fish entrees, and bakery items. Taste is average, prices are average, service is average. Not a huge selection of vegetables. Always crowded there and not a pleasant experience. Many other places in Chinatown to enjoy better food and service! Not recommended unless you enjoy being bumped and pushed around in the crowded store.
google avatar

C B.

Yelp
Solid spot - you can probably find similar quality items at various other stores around the area, but the convenience of having roasts / a hot bar / dessert / a bakery all in one place is the draw here. Speedy service but some amount of nudging + squeezing required when it's crowded per standard Chinatown etiquette.
google avatar

Carlos A.

Yelp
First of all the place is sparkling clean. You must check it out everything is fresh and we'll assorted .I totally recommend it.

cherie s.

Yelp
I have been a long time customer of Deluxe for quite sometime . They do not disappoint. So much to choose from in all departments. It is a bit of a madhouse at times and some of the customers push you out of their way without any apologies. I still continue to make this place my go to when I need any of their items.

Susan L.

Yelp
I visited Manhattan, New York last week. I shopped for food in this store every day. I really like the bakery there: shredded beef bun ($2.5), fluff roll ($2.5), roast pork bun ($2.5), twin bread ($4.5). Pork duck egg congee ($3.75) is also very good. This bakery is part of my good memories for Manhattan.

Yelp
Not LGBTQ friendly and unsafe Hi, I was a customer at this supermarket yesterday on August 13th 2024, and got verbally insulted and sexually assaulted by one of the male staff working in the meat distribution section. When I was walking in from the entrance door, he saw me and yelled out discriminatory and sexually inappropriate comments at me. I was in white jumpsuit pants and dressed femme as a trans person. He literally called me "Big brother" and insulted me. This is not an LGBTQ friendly and safe space and I would highly advise to avoid coming into this supermarket if you want unfriendly employees leaving inappropriate comments towards the way how you dress and gender expressions.

Yelp
This has been my favorite Chinese market for many years. We love and recommend the: - Marinated meats and fish that you can freeze. There are soooo many options- We usually get the Pork Ribs, Chicken & Mushrooms, Marinated Porkchops, Beef Slices, Pig Tongue, Marinated white fish. So delicious and we find the meat fresh and tasty. I still have not been able to find comparable marinated meats/fish in Sunset Park or Flushing. - Fresh Chinese vegetables, which are pretty clean with minimal dirt and need around 2 washes. - The BBQ meats: We go for the BBQ Duck, BBQ Pork (Cha Siu), Soy Sauce Chicken (runs out by the afternoon). Don't recommend the Roast Pork Belly (Siu Yuk) because they sneakily put the best slices on top then 80% fatty inedible pieces underneath and out of view. - Sticky Rice wrapped in Bamboo Leaf with meat and no peanuts. - Dumplings: Pork and Shrimp (yellow label) and green Veggie dumplings Cons: - When packed it can get super overwhelming with pushy and loud people with their 2-wheeled grocery carts who have no concept of lines and personal space. You have to be aggressive to get what you want when you order at the counters and pay - The cashiers are soooooo rude and do not give a flying F! - Some of the hot premade food, such as the Sweet and Sour Pork, are OK and are more fast-food level quality with not the best ingredients. Note: - Minimum $10 for credit card - They either charge for bags or don't even offer them. I like their super durable branded laminated tote bag, can carry a lot!

Yelp
This place has amazingly fresh produce and meat, and roast meats! Takes CC w ID. I love the soy sauce chicken here; couldn't find the duck (but also didn't ask!)

Yelp
This place is, in a word, bustling. In fact yesterday was the only the 2nd time I've been in there and haven't been jostled around by people passing in front and behind me like a billiard ball being bounced around the table. That's because this place is the spot. If you want excellent roast duck or pork you can find it here along with sushi, dumplings, buns and other prepared food. Okay full disclosure. I have bought some pork there that was mostly burned. But most the times it's on point. Couple times I've gotten some of the boxed items and they were a bit off but most of the times they're on point. You can also get great vegetables and house made frozen dumplings. I haven't bought any of their pastries are baked goods so I can't attest to those. But it's definitely worth the visit. I was actually treated relatively well. Not great all the time but nothing so offensive that I didn't want to come back. And I'm good for letting you know when the customer service I've received is offensive or off putting.
google avatar

Kristin L.

Yelp
Quality has gone down severely in recent years. The roast duck is a waste of money because the majority of it was inedible fat with hardly two bites of actual duck meat. The meat buns are now comprised of 80% white flour, with barely any meat filling. Went to grab some bread the other day and had to take one of the boxes up to a worker to show her there was mold in it. I hate ragging on a business that's served Chinatown for so long but this is not the first time I've noticed the declining quality. Please do better.
google avatar

Allen T.

Yelp
Wow after 6 years walking in NYC I finally stumbled across one of the cheapest places in Chinatown to get a meal! For just a mere $3 you get a "Special Vegetable" container which contains a mish mash/hodgepodge of random meats and veggies! While I could taste the MSG in the food, this is a cheap no frills, no bars place to score a cheap meal. They also sell alot of other items such as frozen fish, bbq pork, duck, buns etc.
google avatar

Jenn L.

Yelp
I only come here when I am in a rush and need a quick bite or need some side dishes for meals at home. They have a large selection of cooked dishes for a low price!! Always a line of people that would be the only downside.
google avatar

Edna H.

Yelp
Good location. The market is not too big but it was organized. I can easily find the things that I want to buy. Also, the working staff are approachable and always willing to help you. There's this one day I went here and I'm in a rush, I appreciate this one lady in assisting me with my needs. Thank you so much!
google avatar

Betty L.

Yelp
Literally a one stop shop supermarket. They have a butcher, fish market, fresh vegetables, bakery, cooked foods plus more. This place is always ridiculously busy and you have to be quick if you want service. They have a really large selection of cooked foods and that is really the only reason I come here. I have to say since this place can be a mad house you have to be ready to be pushed around a bit to see what cooked food is available. Once you find what you want you have to be quick to get someone's attention to serve you. After getting your food be ready to wait on line to pay. It can be long slow lines but its worth it.
google avatar

Tara S.

Yelp
Always wanted to try this place and today I did just that. I took a little stroll through the market to admire the culture and product offerings . On my way out I decided to grab a snack before dinner since I was starving . Crystal shrimp dumplings. I was a bit scared of not being able to communicate but the lady got it right . The lady at the cashier was also friendly

Yelp
Open during this Covid19 crisis, though with limited hours. Social distancing? Not so much, but they ask everyone to wear a mask and gloves. Delicious meats (though much less quantity cooked daily - they said less clients, less food out) - but cheap vegetables and reasonable quality make this a go-to grocery in the Chinatown. Freshly cut up pork, fish, chicken and other meats are the main draw of a long meat counter. The veggies and frozen foods are an incidental benefit, and the hot food counter you can get a number of pre-cooked dishes by the pound (or lunch specials). Small bakery, too, by the door. Excellent choice to explore. Note if you go too early (we went at opening at 9:30a), they don't hav ea lot of meat out yet, a lot of it still coming out for later (or was the ones they had out for last night). Still, great place for all the basic meats and cuts that you won't find at a Shoprite or American grocery.
google avatar

Andy L.

Yelp
Affordable made to order food and grocery market! Well worth! Chinese bbq is delicious and the curry chicken puff pastry is amazing! If it's not hot just bring it home and reheat in the oven or air fryer!

Amy M.

Yelp
I go to Chinatown at least once a week or once every two weeks and this is my must go to market. It's a one stop shop for fruits, vegetables, meat, sauces, frozen food, cooked food, and breads. They have everything you can think of. I'm amazed at the amount and variety of cooked food and breads that they make daily. It's not far from the Grand St train station. I suggest you come here in the AM as early as possible since it gets very crowded. They accept credit cards with your ID.

Joyce L.

Yelp
This is my go to spot for all kinds of food & groceries. Food is great, but be prepared to be shoved around by focused Chinese NYers and brutally efficient staff. Depending on the time of day, the store is incredibly busy, so you'll need to be assertive trying to get the food you want. In the food area, decide what food you want with your rice box, then flag down a staff member behind the counters and get what you want. It helps if you're tall. If you're able to get a hand on the food, I promise you won't be disappointed. I highly recommend the fried pork buns.
google avatar

Jacky C.

Yelp
This is one of those markets where you can get those Asian meat and seafood you normally can not get at your typical Whole Foods or Trader Joes. Even if they're sold at said markets, they're a lot cheaper here. With that said, don't expect the space to be nice at all. It is super packed and the two long aisles they have are super narrow. It's also chaotic af when it comes to paying for the produce. There's a bakery and hot foods section on the upper North section while the meat, seafood sections are all at the lower South section. Their limited produce section are somewhere in between. Bakery items sell out fast so get there before noon.
google avatar

Elsa C.

Yelp
Compare to other Chinese grocery shop, deluxe food market is so much cleaner. They have more meat selection as well. I love their wonton, and meat slice. Very fresh! Their cooked food taste really good as well. It's always crowded but good food shop some Chinese grocery

Yelp
You can definitely find something you'd like to eat here, if you like Chinese food. Traditional down home Cantonese food, that is. Whenever I'm in Manhattan's Chinatown, I make a stop here because it's a fun place to look, and I always find a little something delicious to nosh on here. Always. Lots to choose from, including traditional deli items, and even sushi. I got their Chinese tamale this time around, and it was really good. I wish I had come here before getting one just ten minutes beforehand that paled in comparison. As a result, I ate one and a half of these filling tamales, which ruined my plans for an early dinner. Just know that this place is super packed, loud and that employees speak very little English. Also throw in some folks who may try to blatantly cut you in line. If you're not accustomed to this type of setting, you may feel a little uncomfortable. When I first began dating my Husband and brought him here, he said he felt super uncomfortable. Fast forward a few years later, he says he feels at home in places like this now. If you've never been here, I'd say it's worth a stop whenever you're in Chinatown. For me, it's a great option to a sit down restaurant. You'll spend less, and actually see and select the food you'll be having. If you don't like it, you don't need to worry about not finishing an entire entree.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
So so so delicious. I regret not going here more when I was visiting New York. The food is so authentic and cheap too. I got the fried dough (you tiao) and it's the best ones I've ever had. Crunchy on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside. Picked up some soy milk to eat with it too. I also got the tripe salad and other dim sum dishes and they were equally amazing. I wish I could've gotten more stuff from there cuz it all looked and smelled delicious. I literally couldn't choose what to get because I wanted it all. Can't say enough good things about the food here.

Yelp
This is my go to market for veggies and raw meat. It's almost an one-stop shop for everything you will need for your regular home made meals. If you don't feel like cooking, there is also a long hot food station although I haven't tried those as they look a little greasy. Occasionally I will buy their roast pork or chicken legs by the entrance on Elizabeth Street. And if you plan to host a big hot pot dinner party, this is the place to shop from premium sliced beef, lamb, chicken, pork to dumplings to fish balls to all kinds of vegetables. New discovery today: I never knew they make fresh rice rolls from scratch and on demand. It's similar to the popular rice noodle cart across the street in the corner but these taste even better. I asked for the shrimp rice roll and I had to wait almost 10 mins as they needed to roll the rice dough and steam it. And for $2 an order, I'm going to be coming back again and again! PS: this is a mad house but if you go between 10:30am and 11:30am, you may have a bit of luck in getting out of there with a full load of grocery in a shorter time. Reason? People already finish their shopping for lunch and the lunch crowd hasn't showed up yet. It's all about timing and having a good exit strategy!

john m.

Yelp
Prices keep going up, quality goes down. For example, the dim sum beef meat balls cost $4.99 (with 3 beef meat balls), 95% starch....amazing. It is like eating donut....

Yelp
Found this jem while walking around China town. I was attempting to find a jewler to fix a broken chain(China town jewelry stores are the best at fixing gold and silver jewlery). I ordered a lunch box which starts off with white rice no substitutions.. I choose a meat an vegetables to go with my white rice, only 4.70. I thought this was to good to be true, are they using expired or substandard products? Well i choose a long green vegetable you can see it in the picture similar to bok choy, delicious steamed and then tossed in some oil with garlic flavor delicious. For the meat I choose beef shirtrib in a black pepper sauce OMG. The meat comes with a sauce meant to be eaten with rice. Nice size portion, able to fill up most awesome! The place overall is a supermarket, a very loud supermarket always filled with customers.i wouldn't recommend eating here unless you really have to. They have a couple of spaces so people can eat. This business has two entrances one is located on 81 elizabeth and the other on the next block. Massive selection on hot ready food can't wait to try something else!

Yelp
Just adore this store. It doesn't have eeeevery single staple, but it does have most. There's a huge array of hot and ready to eat food, pre made/mixed meats to cook with. Highly suggest a visit to this store if you're looking for meats, seafood and the like. There's also a great array of fresh greens, and noodles. Not too much in the way of fruit, sauces, or spices, but most other items for mega prep are available. Cash and card accepted.

Yelp
Deluxe Food Market has my heart. It is my go-to for a cheap Chinese meal or snack. Your options: cooked duck, fried pork belly, pre-made dinners with veggies and meats, pan fried dumplings, all the Chinese pastries, youtiao (deep fried dough), sushi (not Chinese but OK), zongzi (rice and fillings steamed in bamboo leaves), scallion pancake, etc. + youtiao: always warm throughout the day and comes as a stick or cut up and wrapped by rice rolls. Youtiao here is on the oiler side. + The food here is super cheap. They take both cash and debit card. Eg: 12 oz soybean milk for $1.25, scallion pancake for $2.25, and twist dough for $1.50.
