Essaouira: The ancient seaside town of Morocco - SilverKris

"A rooftop guesthouse with rooms high above the medina that require many steps down to street level, making for quiet, elevated city views and easy early-morning strolls to the nearby port before breakfast. The accommodation feels cozy in winter, with a warm fire in the room at night, and offers a relaxed base from which to experience the medina’s smells, sounds and daily rhythms." - SilverKris

We wanted a local family owned Italian restaurant for dinner before a high school football game and this place hit the mark. Food was delicious and the service was absolutely the best. Our waitress was new but she did a really good job and the extra help who come and refill drinks, take away empty dishes, etc. really do great and make the experience that much better. Good job supporting each other! And thank you for a good experience!

Kelly E.

Google
Our waitress was very friendly and personable, we asked if we could get meatballs as an appetizer, even though they aren't listed, she was very accommodating and kept us up to date on how long they were taking because they are homemade and were worth the wait!! Would definitely recommend!!

Google
This is a restaurant like on your next door, cozy and friendly warm atmosphere you can feel at home. The server was really nice and friendly, and the portions of food is so big! One meal is like for two people. The reason for 4 stars is because the pastas we had a little blant and less sauces. We needed to use salt.

Bryan D.

Google
Food was good, Chicken Parm and Chicken Alfredo. Served hot from the kitchen. Both came with a side salad and bread. Our only complaint was that it took nearly one hour to receive our main dishes, 40 minutes to receive our salads and it was not busy and there were several open tables available during our entire visit. I'm not sure what the issue was that caused such delayed service.

Google
Our family was warmly welcomed into DeMarco's Italian Restaurant as we celebrated a gathering from Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Florida with members from 5 to 75 years old. DeMarco's was the perfect place for this gathering with its diverse menu and warm, accommodating service that allowed us all to enjoy each others' company and get caught up with family. Everyone ordered something different and all declared themselves satisfied, from the pizza to the chicken cutlets, to the veal, to the scampi.

Google
No gimmicks - just high quality, tasty Italian food! We stopped by the other day and had the eggplant parmesan and a square pizza. The red sauce on the eggplant tasted like it was made from tomatoes picked just 5 minutes before being placed in the pan and served - so fresh and tasty! The pizza was made the way my mom and Nonna made it, in a cookie sheet pan. And delicious :) Look forward to visiting again!

Mary J.

Google
I come here so often because how good the food is that they are familiar with us and where we like to be seated when we dine in! The bus girl from Greece is so nice and friendly and I always look forward to seeing her and speaking with her when I go here. The owner is also a very friendly guy with a great attitude. The bread is made fresh and absolutely delicious! I love their balsamic vinaigrette dressing it is the best I’ve ever tried anywhere! I am vegetarian and order the chicken riggies with no chicken almost every time I go that’s how good it is! My fiancé orders the same pizza Everytime we are there because he loves it that much and eats the entire thing while we are there. It can get a little slow on busy nights but that is expected when there’s a lot of people dining in not to mention all the orders for delivery. It’s worth it though! If you have the pleasure of dining in at this place I would definitely try the bruschetta and the chicken riggies!

Google
Love the value of the family chicken parm dinner! Delicious and easy! Order to pick up takes about 40 minutes.

Yelp
This was a great experience. I enjoyed the atmosphere even if it was a little loud. I love the way everyone worked Well to cover and make sure that everyone was served and taken care of. The food was amazing. It was delicious and you definitely have good sizes. I would Recommend this location to anyone who wants delicious Italian food. Dessert is yummy as well.

Caroline W.

Yelp
Such a sweet place to eat. Very fresh food, great service. Slightly loud, but I'm sure that changes with who is dining at the time. The entrees are delicious. They definitely know how to cook. Fresh Italian bread was super soft and tasty. I would definitely eat here again.

Patrick O.

Yelp
Quality price for the food and old fashioned feel atmosphere. A very quaint restaurant in the heart of Central Avenue, where you can settle in for a delicious meal.

John F.

Yelp
Should be zero stars. Absolutely disgusting. How this restaurant has managed to get 4.4 rating is beyond me. The chicken parm was dry and over cooked, pasta swimming in too much sauce, scampi was dry with no sauce at all. Worst Chicken at any place weve ever had it. Chicken Francese was probably the worst of all, total inedible. To their credit they did take two meals off the bill, we were a party of five.

Yelp
Here's the story. I was invited to a Christmas party that one of my family members has every year. He usually has it at a different spot but was unable to secure the room. There's generally about 24-30 of us. Bonus points to DeMarcos for squeezing us in the room because it was a little tight. The service was tremendous and really was a nice feeling. The waitress kept us all well hydrated and dealt with the old folks and kiddos super well. It looked as if the owner was in there a couple times too checking on everyone and asking my cousin how everything was going. The place was clean and well decorated too. The food was served buffet style and was good. The food was prepared well and seasoned well and the pans weren't over loaded. The Food was nice and hot and looked appetizing. We had chicken Marsala, beef short ribs, pasta with marinara, a nice tossed salad with balsamic, and fresh bread. There was cheese and toppings for everything too. In the end it seemed to me like a nicely ram family place. Seemed to me that everyone was warm hearted and cared how the guests felt which to me is more important than anything else. Is the paint perfect? No. Is the bathroom updated? No. Is the bar the newest and trendy? No. But they have the feel of warmth. The people at the tables all looked like regulars. When I walked everyone said hello to me and my family. When we were eating the waitress talked to me like we were friends for years. And I enjoyed it. I felt like I was truly welcome not just a potential tip. Support local? Support small business? Support family? Then DeMarcos is a place you want to go. Everyone smiles and has a good heart. I'll be going back!

Yelp
We've been here quite a few times. Everything is always prepared correctly and is tasty. Garlic parm wings crispy are the best I've had. The sauce is soooo good we dip the pizza crust in it. Salads are fresh and crisp. They aren't over dressed and that's the best part. Pizza is always super hot and fresh. The crust is crispy but also doughy, great combination. The red sauce is certainly one of the better ones I've had, it's not tart or watery... a great thick consistency with awesome flavor. The side dishes are large and filling, they could be meals themselves. Drinks are strong but drinkable.... They are also priced fairly. The only negative is sometimes food takes a bit to come out, but we are not generally in a rush to get anywhere so it won't keep us from being repeat customers. Can't wait to try other things on the menu!

Ronald P.

Yelp
Staff very nice when you walk in greeter very pleasant. Bar like atmosphere loud it is spacious when you dine in decor is old you can tell this place has seen its depreciation met. Pizza was subpar quality fried dough more like cherros I think there called strips of dough not real Italian fried dough. I wouldn't go back unfortunately.

Yelp
We were visiting from out of town and wanted a good restaurant that could accommodate a family group. Based on the previous reviews I called DeMarco's and they said, "No problem, just come over and we'll take care of you." Sure enough, when we arrived, they had a large table all set for us. The place isn't much to look at, but the food and service were terrific. Family members ordered many different items, but each one of them was delicious. Would definitely go there again!

Yelp
I've really come around on my previous opinion of DeMarco's. Years ago my mom used to get one of the 24 cut pizzas whenever there was a party and i was never that into it. I went for dinner once and thought that was just ok as well. But years later I was lured in with their Tues $10.99 Chicken Parm special. Now they are one of my go to places. The price has gone up a few bucks since then but it's still a great value especially since it includes salad and bread for take out or dine in. All their dressings are homemade and the parm peppercorn is the best you'll ever have. I have since ventured out and tried some other dishes. The Chicken Marsala and Pasta Carbonara are both fantastic but the carbonara is very rich. I suggest getting the calamari for an appetizer since it is nice and crispy and fresh. The portion is large also. The garlic cheese bread is another favorite of mine. The takeout is just as good as dining in and the wait time has been pretty quick compared to other places especially during the pandemic.

Lee R.

Yelp
Those who commented on the salads in their reviews are not kidding!! The side salad that comes with each dinner is large and fresh and delicious. And the bleu cheese dressing.... I could eat it by the spoon. Delicious. We shared greens and beans and that was "okay". I've had better and the menu does not state that ham is an ingredient. The escarole was largely chopped and lacked a garlic flavor I'm used to with greens and beans. Veal parm- very good with a nice sauce. Short ribs- yum. Canolli ( we got this to go )- Fantastic! Very kind and attentive service which makes us look forward to returning. Looking forward to going back.

Yelp
Best sit down Pizza in the Albany area! I have been going there for over 30 years and even through ownership changes, the food is great!

Cressa C.

Yelp
Best kept secret in Albany, I am so glad this authentic Italian restaurant was recommended. The food was amazing. The portions were enough for a few meals so come hungry. The homemade dressing was delicious, there was nothing I would change, it has been a challenge finding friendly associates in any establishment and these people were top notch. Highly recommend!

Holly H.

Yelp
As other reviewers mentioned: fantastic chicken parm and blue cheese salad dressing. Excellent portion sizes. We enjoyed our dinner.

Yelp
A neighborhood bar & restaurant that has new owners since August 2018. The new Demarco's had some fits & starts when new ownership took over. First the place was freshened up by removing a lot of the previous clutter and was given a good cleaning. Changes in the kitchen and menu wasn't always agreeable to the many regulars. But to their credit they did listen to the feedback from customers via two long time employees Patti at the bar and Jennifer in the dining room. The menu reflects the traditional Italian-American fare of Chicken Parmigiana (which is a great bargain on Tuesdays at $10.99 (regular $14.99), chicken four seasons, calamari, pizza, antipasto, pasta fagioli, and beans & greens. Meals are in the $10-20 range. All are generous proportions (we either split the dinner or take home half for another meal). There are 20 seats at the bar and two dining rooms that can seat 30 people each. Comfortable and the right amount of boisterous fun on Fridays & Saturdays. Hours are Tue-Wed 3-9pm, Thu-Sat 3-10pm, Sun 4-9, closed Mon. Our 2/14/19 visit was to enjoy their St. Valentine's Day four course special for two - shared appetizer we had the customer favorite eggplant en carozza (eggplant w/prosuitto & cheese), choice of soup or salad, choice of four entrees, we had the chicken four seasons and chicken/veal parmigiana, and a shared cannoli for dessert. And a bottle of wine for $40./pp. It was a great deal. And the place was crowded. So if in the past you may have been disappointed with DeMarco's we think it you might pleasantly surprise with their turn around. In our opinion worth another try.

Manon S.

Yelp
Ordered chicken Alfredo over fettuccine. I got this linguini over a pool of oil. Absolutely nasty.

Yelp
No longer the same since the new owner took over. After trying to seat us at a tiny table by the bathrooms, in spite of plenty of room, we were seated and reviewed a commonplace menu. They kept offering that terrible table to people! I ordered chicken piccata and received a greasy dish with 2 slices of lemon. The noise from the bar was deafening since they removed the wall between that and the dining room. Can't recommend it.

Yelp
During these trying times we are trying to support our local businesses. We tried DeMarcos this evening and were pleasantly surprised with our meal! We ordered the family meal for 6! We ordered the eggplant with penne! Came with a salad, garlic bread and cookies for $39.95! We have enough food for another meal, I can't believe it took us this long to find this diamond in the rough! They are wonderful and very friendly staff! Thank you!

Yelp
I dropped into De Marco's Restaurant over the weekend for some dinner. De Marco's serves up Italian American cuisine including pizza, appetizers, salads, soup, wraps, sandwiches, Italian dinners, fajitas, steaks, seafood, kid's menu, and desserts (varies each day). Daily specials are offered. Dinners are served with soup or salad and Italian bread. The prices are fair, most items ranging $8.25-$14.99. This restaurant has very casual atmosphere. The pub area is very cozy with seating at the bar and a partitioned off with a more spacious, but small dining area (rows of tables & booths). The pub area has TVs at the bar and in the dining area and offers Quick Draw and a NYS Lottery scratch ticket machine. There's also a separate dining room beyond the bar area. I was seated at a table in the pub area and had a good view of several TVs at the bar and in the dining area showing college basketball and an NFL Playoff game. Several regular patrons were seated at the bar having a good time. I was eyeing the NY Pasta Pie ($11.99) on the menu, but I was told by my waitress that this dish was a baked casserole of pasta, cheeses, and pepperoni, which sounded greasy and very NY. I decided to go with the Meat Lasagna ($10.99) instead. I started out with a garden salad which was drenched in lots of Italian dressing, liked it! The decent Italian bread was served cold. The Lasagna took about 20 minutes to come out, since this dish was baked in the oven. The Lasagna was served very hot, a short stack of noodles, ricotta, & ground meat topped with a thick layer of mozzarella cheese & parsley sprinkles and lots of tomato sauce. Very good and not too heavy. Thumbs up! After dinner I was told the desserts vary daily, but they always have fried dough plus they also had fried cheesecake and apple fritters served with vanilla ice cream, and I went with the latter. The "mini" Apple Fritters ($4.50) were deep fried and served with chocolate sauce and strawberry sauce for dipping and a small serving of vanilla ice cream. The dipping sauces made this dessert pretty good and messy. Overall, I had a good meal while watching the playoffs and overhearing a few interesting conversations at the bar. I overheard some regulars discussing spots along Central Ave where the Colonie PD hide out to nab intoxicated bar patrons for DWI or "11-92" (code used by police in NYS). Advice: Instead "Do-Nut" - "Drink" (Coffee) and Drive! The service was fairly laid back, the waitress checking up on my table a few times since the dining area was empty. Good food & drink and good times!

Yelp
My DH and I used to take my kids to this place years ago.. So we were on our way to Crossgates and we thought we would stop here for dinner before we went the the Comedy Club at the Mall. We arrived at 5pm on Sunday and were seated right away as the place was not busy. Our waitress came right over and took our drink order. Ya they have my favorite Lambrusco, most Italian restaurants do. I ordered chicken parmesan, you can't go wrong with that order and DH ordered pasta shrimp dish... We were served warm italian bread and a very nice size salad with blue cheese dressing which was very nice large enough that I took some of it home. Our dinners were served shortly after and we both enjoyed our food very much. We finished in plenty of time to go to our show. I think this place changed ownership since I went there years ago.

Yelp
New owners Food is horrible They didn't keep the recipes? Greens and beans was awful taste flavorless Pizza was not the same !! I can keep going !!

Lev G.

Yelp
Try their garlic bread and chicken wings. You will forget your name and lose your mind. Don't leave them unattended on the table. Masterpiece.

Yelp
Wow!!!!! We are in town for a basketball tournament and set out to find a good Italian restaurant. We found a great one. Amazing. I'm a big eater and there was why I could have finished the rigatoni with sausage I ordered. For 12.99 it was a real bargain and it was terrific. Highly recommend this place. I will return next year for sure.....maybe even tomorrow before heading home..

Yelp
I went there for a 50th birthday dinner with my husband because I had heard good things about the restaurant. I will note that I had also heard they recently changed ownership and this may be a factor in the review I am about to give. It was the worst meal ever! 5 drunk women at the bar who were obviously friends with the bartender. They were so loud that my husband and I couldn't even hear what the other was saying. Not only loud but cursing and no one asked them to tone it down. We ordered simple meals. Fried calamari, salad, penne vodka with meatballs and chicken marsala with a side of angel hair pasta. Calamari and salad were good. When the meals came we immediately tasted that the sauce had been burnt with the burnt taste was throughout the sauce. We ended up only eating the meatball and chicken marsala and brought the sauce to the waiters attention basically sending about 80 percent of the meal back to be thrown out. This was definitely a 1 and done.

Yelp
We accidentally ordered from here by accident once when my wife thought she was ordering from the other DeMarco's in Scotia. The pizza was good and the staff was very friendly. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Erin O.

Yelp
Go eat here! Immediately! DeMarco's is a quaint and comfortable spot. When you sit down to eat you feel like you're sitting in a friends dining room. The portions are HUGE and everything we had was delicious! We started with the eggplant which was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. My husband got the veal sorento with angel hair pasta and it was delicious! The sauce is house made and absolutely amazing. I had the veal Parmesan and it was excellent. Again, the portions are huge and we easily had enough for a second meal. But the best part was definitely last...the fried dough! The crispy, soft delicious dough was dusted with cinnamon sugar and served with a sweet dipping sauce. We weren't even hungry but ate every last bite! Overall DeMarcos is a fabulous old school Italian restaurant. The new owner, John Caccese is gracious and welcoming and has done a great job with this new "old" restaurant! Go give it a try. You won't be sorry!

Yelp
De Marcos Italian Restaurant is a good restaurant with friendly and efficient staff. The food is freshly cooked and delicious. A huge mesclun salad is provided with each meal along with freshly baked Italian bread.

Yelp
Night out with good friends and went here for Tuesday night chicken Parmesan special. Servings was huge and tasted even better! You will not be disappointed. Service was excellent. When back in the area I will be stopping back in.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Italian cuisine that comes with a family like atmosphere, Demarcos is the spot! Food was absolutely amazing and people treated you like family. Everything from the Antipasta to the Cannolis were on point. If you're in the Albany area you gotta stop in!

Dan D.

Yelp
Welcome back Patty!! Just a real nice relaxing place to meet friends and bring family to. Running great specials for the NCAA tournament. Food is very good and consistent, staff is friendly and attentive. Really enjoy coming here, they make you feel at home!!! Thanks to all

Yelp
Driving by after a meeting in the area and stopped for a late dinner. Immediately welcomed by the bar tender. Our server was wonderful and even asked us if she should put a fresh pot of coffee down. The gluten free option is always a plus for me and the Penne Vodka was out of this world. Huge portion! My husband had the chicken francais and it was yummy as well. We will definitely be back next time we're in the area'

Yelp
Constant companion and I returned to DeMarco's twice in the past few months since my first review. We ordered a pizza one time- absolutely wonderful! Sausage and spinach and we dined in the restaurant. A few weeks later I order the exact same pizza to go. What a difference- in a disappointing way. Instead of the same juicy and delicious sausage and thick spinach, I got typical sausage from a poor restaurant and strings of spinach stalks.Later my companion said she heard the wait staff tell her that the dine in pizza is much different than the take out! Why would a restaurant do that? Sad, really. Still we went back again to re-try our previsouly delicious veal parm. It was OK, but not crispy, more soggy than anything. Edible, but... Companion order the veal francais- which sadly arrived drenched in an overbearing lemon "gravy" for want of a better term and clumps of lumpy breading. It was inedible. The server was lovely, as usual, and offered a free dessert which we declined. It may be a few years before we return, if at all. Too bad too, as it's convenient and local.

Yelp
Live in the area and love coming here. Buffalo chicken pizza is divine! Congrats to the new owners!

Yelp
Patti is the best bartender always a good time! And really good food!!! Good location

Yelp
This is one of the bests Italian spots I have visited!!! Everything we ordered was TREMENDOUS! We had the Garlic Bread with mozzarella cheese and tomato, Chicken Marsala and Veal Scaloppini. I can't wait to go back here when we come to Albany, NY again.

L L.

Yelp
So JEN advised if you dont like the food or people go somewhere else a relative had diharrhea after the pizza as did a coworker . The bartender is very nice and tries hard the place is a dump and the food sucks itsa blue collar bar which is fine but serve clean food

Lauri R.

Yelp
Fantastic pizza and the chicken parmesan was awesome. Not dry or beaten to thin. And do to the times they deliver! PROMTLY!

Brandon S.

Yelp
I went here with my family and i will not return. the night started off as a normal birthday gathering and since jim and trish left i haven't had one good experience. the penne al a vodka was PLAIN AND WATERY!!!!!!! Pasta was mushy. I would not waste your money here!

Yelp
We love DeMarco's. Very generous portions at great prices. And their pizza is delish!! You can't find a friendlier bartender than Patty. We have met some very nice people sitting and eating at the bar. It is a very friendly place.

Mike r.

Yelp
Showed up to meet some good friends for an nice meal, in July of 2018.. Waited in the parking lot for bit, When we went to go inside, we were approached by the new owner who apologized that it was closed as he recently bought it and it was under renonvation. But, he offered to send us a gift card .. Well folks never happened.. The restaurant is now opened, he has our address and our close friends still lives around the corner.. Would not consider eating at a place that does not carry through on its promises. We ended up last a O'tooles down where Khols is located.. Good place and fine food.. No I would not recommend Demarco's ...
google avatar

Kathy R.

Yelp
Excellent. My husband and I had the Chicken Marsala. The chicken and the pasta were cooked to perfection. Our daughter had their special Chicken Gorgonzola and it was amazing. Fantastic food. We highly recommend.

Kim L.

Yelp
We celebrated my mom's birthday with a surprise party and it was great! The owner, John, was great to deal with. He responded quickly to emails and made planning the details a breeze. The private party room they have was a good size and worked perfectly for us. The food and service were great, everything went smoothly and a good time was had by all. Overall a very positive experience, I'd definitely recommend!

Jackie J.

Yelp
Don't go here!! We went last night for chicken parm night and we waited a little over an hour!!!!!!! There apparently was one waitress working the whole restaurant so I understand she was busy, but no one ever apologized for the longgggg delay. Also the couple behind our table had been waiting about 30-40 minutes to give their order and my boyfriend said the husband was so hungry he put the grated cheese on a plate and started eating it..super weird but still waitress or any of the other girls didn't notice this...and the chicken parm wasn't great. If you're looking for a good chicken parm night tj's cafe also on central ave is amazing!!

Yelp
I have always had an excellent meal when coming here. The staff is pleasant and customer-oriented. It is nice to have a locally owned restaurant to go do that serves top quality food in a comfortable atmosphere. We try to come every week or two. Definitely recommended for adults looking for a quiet place to enjoy their dinner.

Hal F.

Yelp

Yelp
My husband, kids and I recently dined at DeMarco's Restaurant in Colonie. We heard that the restaurant had changed ownership and were told by some friends that we should definitely go for dinner... Upon our arrival, we were immediately greeted by friendly staff and sat in their side dining room, which looked completely renovated. We ordered chicken and veal parmesan dinners for us, and small pizzas for the kids. WOW!!! The tomato sauce had so much flavor, the portions were very generous and you can tell that they use fresh chicken and veal, definitely no frozen ingredients. Also, the kids pizzas looked so good, i actually took a slice to try. The crust was very fluffy, great pizza sauce and real mozzarella cheese! Although we were full from our fantastic dinners, we actually ordered a pizza to take home! Overall, this was one of the best experience's we've had at a restaurant in years. We will DEFINITELY return and highly recommend DeMarco's Restaurant to family and friends.

Yelp
This place is incredibly awesome! I now make a point to come here every time I'm in town. Their food is fantastic (highly recommend the steak pizzaiola) and their staff is great! Highly recommend!

Karish P.

Yelp
We were a family of 9 that was seated with no problem. Service and staff was descent. The appetizers other than wings were frozen and not fresh. We wanted to try the menu because reviews wrote up the menu changed based on a new chef. Place is good just for pizza, wings and beer
