Den Gamle By – A Walk Through Danish History 🇩🇰 If you're visiting Aarhus, Den Gamle By is an absolute must-see! This open-air museum is like stepping into a time machine — beautifully recreated streets, shops, and homes from different eras in Denmark’s past. 🕰️ I loved wandering through the cobblestone alleys and seeing how life looked in the 1800s, 1920s, and even the 1970s. The attention to detail is incredible — from the authentic furniture to vintage products on display in the shops. 📸 Don’t miss the baker, the old-school radio store, and the apartment buildings that show daily life through the decades. It’s both nostalgic and eye-opening. 🎟️ The entry fee is worth every krone, especially if you take your time to explore all the sections. It’s perfect for families, history lovers, and anyone curious about Danish culture. 💬 Tip: Bring comfy shoes and a camera — and don’t skip the modern 1970s area, it’s unexpectedly fun! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommended — one of the highlights of my Denmark trip!

I came to Aarhus to come here for the recommendation of a Danish friend. There is a difference of about 10 kroner between the Internet and the on-site ticket price, so please get a ticket issued online. You can scan the barcode right away, so you don't have to wait. If you go in, you will feel like a movie set. It feels like you suddenly dropped into an amusement park. I feel like I don't know where to go and what if this place is surprisingly big, but it wasn't that wide. It takes less than two hours to look around. It's a lot of fun to look at the brochure and visit from place to place. It's fun because the times have changed if you walk a little bit. You will be able to go inside each building and see that time, so you will realize it. There are even horse-drawn carriages inside, so be careful of horse poop.

Loved visiting this place, you get to see a big selection of decade's, style of houses through the years, machinery, how things was made years ago. Something to entertain and interest all ages. Then a lovely gift shop to buy a little memento if your visit. would definitely visit again

A fascinating walk through time, not just by looking at the outside of buildings but also by going in. The display notices were bilingual (Danish and English) and the bakery did amazing cakes/pastries. They also have their own tea (green and black) made for them; I went for the black tea, which was superb… definitely no tea bag in a mug!! Although you may want to pass it by, the subterranean ‘history of Aarhus’ was very informative, interactive and at times humorous. It also leads to further exhibits including clocks and ceramics. They do have motorised accessibility scooters for hire (free) - it is strongly recommended that these are booked in advance (I did this by phone - the staff speak excellent English). The site, whilst not large, is a portrayal of history so there are plenty of uneven surfaces.

This is an amazing place right in the centre of the city. You have to pay to go in but it’s well worth it. We were able to take the dog with us although we weren’t able to take the dog inside any of the houses. It is beautifully done and there are lots of great places to eat and drink. Went into the restaurant and the food was delicious. Easy to wander around and just admire the view. We spent several happy hours here just doing that!

Blown away how incredible this game place was. It’s $$$ to get in but soooo worth it. I’ve never seen a historic village set in time spans from 1600s-1930s and we loved it. Worth a visit and worth the price. Thank god Denmark is all about preserving history.

An incredible walk though Danish history including all the shops, interactive exhibits and period shops where you actually buy items. A very impressive experience and highly recommended. DKR200 for adult entry, well worth it. There’s a lot to see, approx 2 hrs needed.
