We're creatures of habit, and since Talkeetna Roadhouse has temporarily closed their restaurant, we didn't know where to eat. It's been almost a decade since we'd been here, and although I know they have great beer (love their Chuli Stout) but I was doubtful that a brewpub made a decent meal.
Um. Wow. In the decade plus I've lived in Alaska, this meal was in the top 20, and that's taking into account the Mac and cheese was a greasy mess.
We split some sweet potato fries- perfectly fried and salted with two tasty dipping sauces.
I ordered the pulled pork platter with 2 sides. As I mentioned, the Mac was gross. But the beans were some of the most memorable- a perfect mix of sweet, savory and onion. Beautiful. And finally, the pork, beautifully smoked and moist, so that it didn't need BBQ sauce, served with a huge piece of Texas toast. On the table are some unique choices to add to your meat if that's your pleasure. I might add, the amount of meat they give you on the platter is enormous; if you've been climbing a mountain, or kayaking- this is the meal you want to bring you back to home base.
Also enjoyed their blueberry mojito, which I haven't had before since I usually stick to beer. It was good and didn't give me a headache, so I approve!
