One of our last stops before the state of California was shut down for COVID-19! So glad that the bestie made an appointment here for our weekend visit! (You need one to get in, so make sure you don't just show up)
There are two entrances, one for club members and one for the rest of us plebes, lol! The Visitors Room was a large, open room, with windows overlooking some vineyards and a lovely circular counter at which we stood. There are tables, as well, but I like the idea of being able to chat with the person pouring our wine, and that's much easier if he's right in front of us. Unfortunately, I have forgotten everyone's name (so sorry!), but we started with one guy, who passed us off to another guy. We had great conversation, he had wonderful things to say about the wines, and, he was quite resourceful!
They happened to have a little of a more recent vintage of Dirt Worshipper 55 (aged in concrete) open, which was nice. After hearing about the differences between the 55 and the regular, I was curious about the differences in taste. I asked if they had any other of the Dirt Worshippers open. As these were on the 'limited release' or 'library' list, of course, he said no and he's not allowed to open them. Understandable. However, he asked the wine room manager about it, who said, "Sure!" And we all had a nice little vertical tasting! We talked about food pairing, local spots (since the bestie lives there), etc. It was a lovely stop and we walked out of there buying a 2017 Mother of Exiles, a 2013 Ditch Digger, and a 2013 Dirt Worshipper!
Can't wait to be able to go out to eat again so we can bring one of these wines!
