What a glorious stay I had recently at Dennison Street Inn, located in one of my favorite small towns, Colonial Beach, Virginia.
Innkeepers Jodie and John have left nothing to chance and in her own words, Jodie says that she learns something new with each new visitor, striving to accommodate every want and need. For example, when a guest complained of not having a specific blend of tea, Jodie made sure from that point on to have a wider selection.
This attention to detail is evident from the moment you walk through the doors of the stately Victorian, originally built for the first mayor of Colonial Beach. The owners wanted furnishings to match the time period of the majestic home, but didn't want an overly feminine look as is common with Victorian decor. They found a perfect balance. Plush furniture in the living room (it's like sitting on a throne!) in muted colors with antiques and historic paintings on the walls.
I imagine the owners going through each room, as if they were guests themselves, anticipating every possible need a visitor might want. There is a shoe rack at the door, earplugs next to your bed, and every type of sweetener (sugar, raw sugar, sugar substitute), coffee and tea you could desire. There was even a special dark colored, plush towel for removing makeup so I wouldn't feel bad mucking up the white ones.
Speaking of towels...they are just one more attention to luxury detail. Super fluffy and absorbent. Bathroom rugs are like walking on a cloud. My room even had a whirlpool tub! The bed is so soft and has so many pillows, you could spend your whole weekend right there.
Freshly baked homemade cookies greet you upon arrival. Breakfast (prepared to your liking) is served in your room. (My room had two separate seating areas, in addition to the bedroom. Queen for a day!)
Jodie and John were so kind, warm, accommodating and helpful. I can't wait to go back!
