Depot 195 - Hostel Winterthur

As a hostel and backpacker place you cannot believe how clean, serene and friendly service you find here!!!! I have come here several times to bring friends and I have recommended some. Now I had a skin deep experience and it is soo good. I will definitly go there again. Better than those horrible rooms in Barcelona and Majority UK backpackers!!

I stayed here for 7 nights as part of a university project (and was lucky to benefit from a discount), and I couldn’t have been more satisfied with my experience 🇨🇭🇨🇭||I booked a 6-bed dorm, but during my stay only 5 beds were occupied, which made it even more comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and always available whenever I needed anything. Everything was easy to find. The bathrooms and showers were consistently clean, with great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Everything felt very well organized ✌️✌️||I was also fortunate that my roommates were not only kind and reasonably organized, but they also kept the room tidy and were respectful and polite. I was usually the first to go to bed and the first to wake up, and I appreciated how considerate everyone was. Most mornings I preferred buying a few things from the supermarket and eating outside on the terrace, so I didn’t try the breakfast option.||Room access worked with a key card, which was perfect—except for the one time I accidentally left it inside the room! Luckily, someone was there to let me in (and, to be fair, that happened more often to others than to me, haha).||The lockers were a bit noisy—if I needed something early in the morning, I worried about waking up others, and vice versa in the evening when I was asleep. Occasionally, the quiet hours after 10 p.m. weren’t strictly respected, but that’s to be expected in shared accommodation.||Overall, I really enjoyed my stay—it’s honestly one of the nicest hostels I’ve ever stayed in. Clean sheets, quick and uncomplicated check-in/check-out, friendly staff who were always ready to help and responded quickly… everything was great!

Good location and friendly staff. Rooms and toilets are clean. Large kitchen with all utensils. We had wonderful time preparing meals and meeting awesome guests.

Depot 195 is an excellent choice if you’re going to Winterthur, or even Zurich, which is about 30 minutes away by train. Trains run very regularly and the hostel is an easy 10 minute walk from the station. Trains go in all directions, so it’s a great base for exploring the region. BTW Don’t miss Stein am Rein - it’s incredible! |Depot 195 is immaculately clean, and the staff are very proactive in keeping it that way. They take great pride in their hostel and clearly love working there. Alex on the front desk was great at suggesting places to see and things to do in the region, and David, the manager, was really helpful and accommodating when I arrived very early. |The kitchen is well appointed, spacious, very clean, well organised and has everything you need. It’s also a friendly place where people chat and get to know each other - that doesn’t happen in all hostels. |I stayed in a female dorm room and it was bright, airy and really big for 6 people. The bed was very comfortable and it had a good light and power set into a wall shelf. |The bathrooms were spotless and the showers were really great. |Most hostels I’ve stayed in (many!) have good aspects and some not-so-good aspects, but I have absolutely only good things to say about Depot 195 - I can’t fault a single thing! |Thanks for having me, I was sad to leave!

This is a great place to stay in Winterthur ! The staff is fun and kind, we felt very welcome. We got the room via a package deal with the Technorama. The hostel offered a free day ticket for Winterthur as part of the package. Because we went to the Technorama before arriving at the hostel, we weren't able to use it. It would have been perfect to get an qr code or other electronic ticket before the stay. ||The room was amazing. It is beautiful and beautifully decorated. The beams and furniture are a wonderful decor. ||The hostel is a 20 minute walk away from the city centre, but we only went there for an evening meal at Tibits. If you are in Winterthur for the Technorama, you have to take a bus anyway.||The only slight downside to the hostel is the communal kitchen. The seating area is very cramped and smells like the tables were wiped down with cloths that have been lying around a few days.||I would still strongly recommend a stay and will come back with pleasure !

I stayed here for two nights while touring Switzerland with my Swiss girlfriend and 8-year-old son. We loved it! Our room was spacious and clean and had its own bathroom. Like most places in Switzerland it does not have air conditioning, so if you are American and used to AC, be advised. The hostel also features a rooftop terrace where we ate dinner both nights, as well as a kitchen and lounge area with drinks for sale. The location is also a bonus. This hostel is built into an old building that was part of a former industrial complex of warehouses, factories, train depots, etc. Just outside the hostel is a brewpub, a cafe, and a truly spectacular Skills Park, which, if you are traveling with kids, they will love. The hostel is also right down the street from the main train station of Winterthur. Overall this is a great spot to stay!

I could only stay in Depot 195 for one night but I can assure you this place is great. Very comfy rooms and great showers/bathrooms. The man (sadly can't remember his name) who helped me at reception was very very welcoming. He had great English and was incredibly nice. He showed us some cool spots to check out and good restaurants. Cleanliness is a strong suit here. Very happy with the stay!
