Where to Taste Tasmania's Wine and Food From Launceston to Hobart

"A historic homestead restaurant near Hobart where cherries-and-chocolate–tinged Pinot Noir pairs well with grilled lamb, combining convivial dining with approachable, site-driven wines." - Betsy Andrews

What a great way to spend an afternoon! Came here with my partner for a tasting and a cheeseboard via walking in. The tastings are very well priced: $15 for 6 tastings, or $20 for 12. We chose the 12 tastings and there was such a good variety of wines to work through. The sommelier we had was so lovely, and her knowledge about the wine was vast so we learned a lot about the area and different climates. The cheeseboard was absolutely perfect: 3 different types of cheese, lavosh-style crackers and some fruit paste to sweeten things up. Genuinely discovered the best blue cheese from that board as well and need to go and source it! Thanks again, cannot wait to come back soon!

What a treat! Staff were amazing. We loved their different cultures, experience and the stories they shared. The food was delicious, try the duck rillettes with lemongrass and pork belly. Stunning! Their sparkling has French champagne notes, dry and crisp. The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are delicate and perfect. On the expensive side but worth every penny.

Stunning vinery to visit on the banks above the Derwent River. Spaceous eating area with tables indoors and plastic blinds which can be raised for dining alfresco in warm weather. The menu though small is eclectic and quite delicious. The wine was also delicious. There is a tasting room for those who desire. The carpark is large, mostly level with disabled parking and wheelchair access. While we visited a wedding ceremony was being prepared for outside in the beautiful grounds. The Shed restaurant is well worth a visit.

Amazing! We dined at the restaurant which had a really nice range of food, delicious and friendly staff. We then went for a wine tasting and cheese board at the cellar door. Jillian and Sandy were very knowledgeable, friendly and genuine. Not a bad wine to taste. Highly recommend the cellar door experience and can’t wait to visit again.

We sat on the balcony overlooking the Derwent river and tasted 12 delicious wines for only $20. It’s absolutely amazing. The sommelier guided us through each wine and its distinctive character which was experience.

Me and my partner had a lovely experience at the cellar door, the tasting was fabulous and Andrea very knowledgable. We loved the guided tasting through all their wines. We got the best chicken liver parfait ever, very generous portion we almost struggle to finish it all. Highly recommended stop on the way to Hobart

For locals or visitors, Derwent Estate and its restaurant offers a perfect weekend escape on the shores of the Derwent Valley. It’s an operating vineyard, with an excellent selection of wines and a great tasting room, as well as a fantastic restaurant in the Shed. The restaurant offers a small and very high quality menu, supported by a great wine list, and allows you to dine with views over the vineyard and the Derwent River. We even got to watch the black faced sheep and their lambs frolic in the vineyard close to the restaurant. Plenty of accessible parking, great and attentive staff and comfortable and spacious seating. It’s popular, so you need to book!
