What a lovely establishment! Tastefully decorated with a high end luxury feel. The lobby is beautiful and the front desk staff was extremely helpful with restaurant recommendations and local destinations within walking distance. The room was beautiful and bed/linens gave me a very comfortable and restful night. Nice self-serve breakfast buffet included. Nice gym & sauna. Parking is easy--right across the street. I self parked and handled my own luggage. The hotel is small with a quiet lobby and I felt very comfortable as a solo female senior traveler. The only minor disappointment was there was not much of a view from my room. The hotel building is only 4 stories so all I could see was the building across the street. And the bar is not open on Sundays. I highly recommend this for your next visit to Des Moines!!

The hotel is only about 20+ years old in its present form. It's an old building from the 1920s that had a couple of other iterations before becoming a hotel. ||The remodeling was perfect. The decor alone in the lobby is worth a visit. Eclectic mix of modern art and classical statues. The hotel colors are dark and rich, and the lighting is made to give it the feel of a 1920s-1930s hotel. Even the telephones in the room have that old-school motif. ||We stayed in the fireplace- jacuzzi suite. I would highly recommend this option (if you can afford it!). ||The hotel is in walking distance from a great Italian restaurant(Centro's). Just down the street a couple of blocks. ||I stayed here once before, about 10 years ago during the Des Moines Marathon weekend. I was impressed enough to want to come back some day.

I booked the Des Lux for a quick visit to Des Moines and am really glad I did. The booking was quick and easy, and we received a discounted rate for an upgrade to a beautiful fireplace / spa room. The complimentary breakfast is quite good, and the common spaces are very pretty. The real stand-out for this property is the staff: Every team member I had contact with, from the reservation person to the front desk, to the server at breakfast to the housekeepers was very professional. ||||Another plus for this property compared to other downtown hotels I've booked is that the parking is convenient and inexpensive. There's a public parking garage across the street that only charges $10 for 24 hours.

Really nice place! Very clean, it seems very ritzy, but it's very laid back atmosphere. They had so many nice accommodations. I didn't even expect to have breakfast. But they have a continental breakfast, they have a very nice hot tub, a dry sauna, a wet sauna, also a a workout gym.

The arrangements reflected the staff’s professionalism. Nothing was left out and we thoroughly enjoyed a special stay! Highly recommend. Thank you Mary & Sandy for taking care of all the details. We occupied the “Gateway Suite” on a cold December weeknight and loved having the cozy fireplace for both ambiance & warmth!

This was a New Year's Eve getaway for my wife and I. We paid for the romance package that included a couple's massage. The massages were the worst we've ever had. The massage room was cold (don't expect a heated table!) and the therapists seemed to have little to no training. We stayed the next morning for the free breakfast. It was worth what it cost! The hotel and the staff were nice, but overall the Des Lux was not worth the money.

The minute we entered we were treated with kindness as the front desk staff generously upgraded us to a king suite! The masseuses also radiated positivity and serenity throughout our time with them. The spa and hot tub were just what we needed for a couples get away! The location of Des Lux was just a 3-minute walk to our favorite restaurant downtown!

The bed (found out that they are custom made) is the very BESTBED I’ve ever slept on!!! And wow, what a difference this makes, especially when traveling. It can make or break your stay. The decor is wild & thoroughly entertaining. All employees are absolutely spectacular. I felt very much “At home” & totally cared for. Two people in particular deserve a special shout out. Interestingly, their names|are MARY & JOSEPH (Joe). These two beautiful people made my stay in Des Moines, memorable in the very best way imaginable. Special mention too, to the lovely woman who manages the breakfast (wonderful) lounge. Please do yourself a very big favor, and if in Des Moines, make your stay at the Des Lux Hotel.💜

Yelp
Wow, what a great little find. Husband and I decided to hotel bar hop the other night and stopped in at the Des Lux hotel bar. Our bartender was amazing and comes up with the drinks. My husband LOVES the Between the Sheets, a tequila drink with some spice. It's now off the menu but you can still request it. A new menu just dropped which looks just as good. We will be back. The hotel is a great little gem. Walk around the lobby and check out the cool bathroom too. Definitely stop for a drink. Never too busy and great service!

Yelp
The hotel is absolutely gorgeous! My wife and I decided to have a date weekend and wanted to stay downtown Des Moines. We were unsure where to stay but wanted it to be intimate and upscale. Hotel Des Lux hit it out of the park. From their wonderful staff and their attention to detail, it was a stay we won't soon forget. The rooms are HUGE, and everything has a nice quality and feel to them. The bathroom was so relaxing and the whirlpool made the evening melt. The beds were big and felt like a cloud, we slept like babies. We had an opportunity to check out the bar and the cocktails did not disappoint! Sherry & Katie make one heck of a drink! We got some great advice for shopping and places to eat and the weekend could not have been better. Thank you to everyone for making our stay a very memorable and enjoyable experience. Cheers, -Joe & Megan

Yelp
Mary and staff treat you like family. The Interior Design of the hotel is immaculate, amazing and makes you feel like you're in a historical stylish Renaissance nightclub- it's awesome! They even provided free rides to the wedding we were staying in town for. If you're in Des Moines, Iowa, you definitely want to experience this amazing hotel.

Yelp
If i could leave zero stars i would! My daughter just turned 23 and wanted to go take pictures at midnight at a few pretty places. i'm greeting her a hotel room today as well since she doesn't drunk or go to bars and is very shy. so we stopped by this one to see if we could go in and see the vibe of the place before we decided. well you can get into the first doors but you have to ring the doorbell to get through the next set. i went in first before my daughter (as she was wearing a evening gown and is cold so no sense in walking if we couldn't even get in the first doe doors. i pressed the button and waited...and waited.. and waited . no answer. so i went back to the car to tell my daughter and we decided to go in and at least take a picture in front of the inside doors since there was a logo on them for the hotel and press the button to wait for a answer while we did. we pressed it and waited forever before i finally said welp they don't want to help us i guess so do you want to at least take a few pics before we leave and give them a little longer to hopefully answer. when i say i didnt get ONE picture before this middle aged hefty crabby women burst open the door (scaring my daughter and making her drop n crack her BRAND NEW iphone!) and i started to tell the lady what we were doing and she immediately cuts me off and tells me if your not a guest here you CAN'T take a picture even in the inside doors! never letting me even get to the part where i said we wanted to see the vibe to maybe get a room here later today! i will NEVER get a room here and i will never recommend this place! she was so lazy she could not answer the buzzer but the second she saw us treasur go to treasure ONE picture she runs to the doors! she could've used the speake r/intercom to talk to us but instead she wanted to personally come be a nag (i have a more colorful name than that but can't use it on here) and she was out of breath so i know she ran!

Yelp
My wife and I spent the night at Des Luxe on the night of our wedding. I bought us a King Room with a Fireplace and added on one of their romance packages. My wife--completely unaware of the reservation details--was floored. She started crying when we walked in; the room was huge, beautiful, and the candles (part of the romance package) were tastefully spread throughout the room. It was one of the most romantic places we'd ever been in--it probably helped, though, that we had just gotten married. The staff at Des Luxe throughout our one-night stay were extremely friendly, even at 11:30 p.m. when we showed up to the hotel. The bedroom and bathroom were spotless. The bed was extraordinarily comfortable. The view out the massive windows was excellent. The champagne (again, part of the romance package) was delicious. Everything from the moment we walked in until the moment we left was classy and romantic. The best part, however, was easily the breakfast. I've never had such a delicious complimentary breakfast. The selection was equitable to most large chain hotels, but so much tastier and flavorful. My wife and I agreed that if money were no object we would unironically book a stay at Des Luxe just to have their breakfast. After an experience like we had at Des Luxe, we, of course, agreed to return on our (hopefully) many anniversaries to come--how could we not? It was actually magical.

Yelp
I have traveled the world. Stayed in a lot of hotels. I never expected my favorite hotel to be in Des Moines Iowa! The Des Lux Hotel is very comfortable and interesting. The decor is exquisitely done both in the common spaces and the rooms. The staff was friendly and helpful. I look forward to staying here again!

Natalie K.

Yelp
We stayed here for our wedding and had 2 suites for the first night and the kings corner suite for the second night. Both rooms were stunning. The bath tub, bar area and fireplace were great. They did need to refill the body wash in the showers and the robes were scratchy but these are not real breakers for me. The complimentary breakfast was plentiful and delicious both days and the staff was extremely friendly. Parking is right across the street and only $10/day. We didn't check out the pool, sauna, steam room, or workout center so I can't comment on that. This is also a great place to take wedding photos!

Yelp
Top shelf 5 star hotel in the heartbeat of downtown. Amenities galore. Mini bar in room. Wolfgang Puck coffee. The beds are soooo comfortable. I am a spine surgery patient and this hotel is w/o question in favor of folks the KNOW they've got to have a excellent bed or suffer the cost of a lesser quality rest. The pillows are mid range softer and then high lofted firmer. The carpet was the cleanest I've ever seen in a high end hotel. Attention to detail this hotel has done is respectable. From pre-bagged ice ready-made to grab and go. To the dual head shower that has excellent water temperature and pressure both! Functional as they should be. Huge bathroom, lots of lighting. Just a super comfortable bathroom. Lots of room, beautiful towels. Just a fun, inviting foyer that welcomes you into a Grand Lobby. Just eye candy galore! Motifs change every floor and grand rooms are filled with just enough of the perfect size one off furniture creations, that are as comfortable as they are inviting. The decor is eclectic with a captivating flair for imagination. Feels opulent and grand. Truly a treat for the eyes. Total class Des Lux. Well done. A Diamond in downtown Des Moines Iowa.

Yelp
I had a birthday party in the lounge and it was amazing! The bar manager sherry was helpful, and the front desk were all friendly. The rooms are gorgeous! Makes you feel like you stepped back in time to the 1920s. The complimentary breakfast was lots of cereal, waffles, yogurts and drinks.

Victor G.

Yelp
Checked in today on Friday November 17. We got to our room and someone was already in it. Went back to the front desk and they did not know someone was in the room. We were made to wait one hour until the manager showed up. She claimed she was upgrading us but gave us a room with no windows when we originally had a corner room plus our living room has windows into the room next to us. Overall, extremely bad experience with people not empowered to solve problems.

Gabrielle S.

Yelp
Overall, we really enjoyed our staycation at Des Lux. The staff we interacted with were very nice, and we loved our room. The bed was pretty soft, and everything was clean. The breakfast was much better than I expected, and the decor/branding is really solid (with the kitty flipping the bird being the only exception ). Just a few things to improve it to a 5 star rating! The water from the faucet is DISGUSTING. Like, I'm no water snob, but I couldn't drink it without gagging. There is no free non-tap water anywhere in the hotel except for one tint bottle per room, so bring your own water bottles. There wasn't even any water at breakfast. Everything apart from the water is due to just wear and tear, like crooked towel racks, chipped toilet bowls, and some peeling wallpaper in the bathroom. Just a quick update/maintenance to those things will spiffy it up real quick. As I said, overall we had a great time and we would definitely come back!

J S.

Yelp
We loved our stay! We had a wonderful experience! Staff was very friendly and welcoming! this is a beautiful place! we stayed in a basic room with no fireplace or whirlpool. The bed was comfy and bathroom was huge with nice high grade body care products. Breakfast was super and had many options. Be ready to take pics in the lobby. We walked to Malo restaurant for a pick up and it was yummy and only a few blocks away. Starbucks is a block away too! Loved it!!

Holly L.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect! We stayed in a king suite with jacuzzi and it was spacious and luxurious. It's not often I just want to sleep in and stay longer at a hotel but I had to drag myself out of bed. The breakfast was great! Fresh orange juice, hot biscuits and gravy and just cut cantaloupe was delicious. Staff was all so helpful and genuine.

Kristyn M.

Yelp
I was part of a bachlorette party that was staying the night here. The girls had gotten the room to crash after some fun and shenanigans. Heading to the room (slightly drunk) it was discovered that the key wasn't working. After a quick trip to the lobby for a correction they made their way into the room. Upon entry they discovered someone elses stuff. The desk must have realized it too because they came in right away. After many apologizes that they had accidentally double booked the room they upgraded her to the Presidential suite. Bath salts by the tub, faux fur blankets on the bed and couches. I had a video of the room but can't get it to post. I didn't get to stay the night but everything was super swag, and they way the hotel handled it was 10 star service. The room was beautiful. Both rooms I got to see were really well kept and very nice. Great location to some really nice restaurants and bars. I would recommend for another event like this in the future.

Rose R.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the hotel! Great room wonderful breakfast and really great bar!! Located right downtown Des Moines

Raena W.

Yelp
This hotel was amazing! We booked one of the king suites as a treat, and it did not disappoint. I think the owner and managers of the hotel have actually stayed at hotels and it shows! Many nice features. Beautifully decorated, perfectly clean. Ice machine was bug bags of ice! As a person who always travels with a cooler this was so appreciated. Very nice towels, bed and robes. Bath salt provided by the jaccuzzi tub. We don't live in Des Moines, but cant wait to stay there again!

Michael B.

Yelp
Generally I only write reviews when something was bad. This is the exception. I stay at hotels all the time for business, including the big names and usually try to choose the best options at a reasonable rate. Des Lux was outstanding as one of the best hotels I've stayed in it's price range. This is the only hotel that I am absolutely going to stay at again when I am back in town. Des Lux team, please don't change a thing, unless you plan to make it even better. The rooms were fantastic, the hotel had a very fancy feel and a lot of class, the bar and bartender were great, and the breakfast was awesome.

Yaiza V.

Yelp
Awesome hotel with a really cool vibe. The room was clean and incredibly nice, had a great night's sleep in the bed and always enjoyed using the fireplace. The downstairs bar was great and all the employees were welcoming and helpful (appreciated that everyone wore masks), and big shout-out to our super friendly bartender! We were also very central to some nice bars and restaurants. Overall this was one of the best hotels I've stayed at and would highly recommend for anyone coming to Des Moines!

Adam O.

Yelp
We spent an overnight trip to Des Moines, Iowa to see a friend. I came across the website for this hotel and it's absolutely beautiful and our expectations were met. Clean, safe and proper procedures. We enjoyed a good continental breakfast buffet, full service bar in the evening and the fitness facility is a real gym. It's a large spacious area with locker rooms, whirlpool, steam room, sauna and legit gym equipment. We had a very cozy stay in Downtown Des Moines and can't wait to be back.

Eric W.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my stay in Des Luxe Hotel in an executive king room. My room was spacious and comfortable. It had a fireplace and a double sink in the bathroom -- even though I was by myself. The bed was super comfortable and I slept well. I really like the lobby as well. It is an historic building and upon asking at check-in, they gave us a pamphlet and some background. The hotel is beautiful throughout. It's nice to have a full breakfast buffet as well. The chef makes omelettes and they offer bread, fruit, yogurt and cereals with coffee and juice. Saves some and having to go find breakfast. The room rate was very reasonable for the high quality stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Nice hotel. Would definitely choose this one again instead of a big chain.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
The hotel is beautiful. It is decorated incredibly well. The concierge, Mary, was amazing. The only 2 complaints I have are the bathroom wasn't properly stocked and the bathrobes provided were hard, stiff and uncomfortableto say the least. When I brought my concerns to Mary she made sure the stocking situation was corrected immediately and we were comped a bottle of champagne and Mary delivered glasses to our room well. As for the bathrobes, Mary noted our profile to be upgraded for no charge upon our next stay. Breakfast was good with a couple options depending upon your preferences. The location was optimal and shuttle service is available. It is clean and the staff was friendly. Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay and will return!!

Patrick T.

Yelp
Sleek, swank, smooth, cool, classy, are how I would describe the Des Lux. This downtown hotel has got it where it counts! Perfect location! Great customer service! Cool Bar! And it's beautiful! Now I have not ever stayed in the rooms here, so my review is strictly on lobby, lounge, and the front desk and bartender service! Which have been over the moon good! If the rooms are anything like the bar, and our entry.. this place is where it's at! Hope to see the rooms at some point if family or friends decide to stay here! But hey, go in for drink, it's cosy little bar is awesome!

Jamie K.

Yelp
This hotel cancelled my reservation today in order to give another customer my room. They never tried to contact me. I only received an automated email stating my cancellation with no explanation. When I called the hotel, I was "greeted" by a very unprofessional staffer who offered little explanation and no assistance as all rooms were sold out. If you are considering a stay at this hotel, make sure you travel with a backup plan as this hotel is severely mismanaged.

Lindsey '.

Yelp
I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Gorgeous, clean, quiet, and super friendly staff. Sandy was amazing- went out of her way to make our stay great. The breakfast was awesome, safe but still a great selection. Easy walk to the YWCA Aquatic Center. Oh and the hotel smells amazing- not sure what they do- but the whole place smells awesome but the scent is not overpowering. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Michael L.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I was in town for a wedding and stayed here. Notwithstanding water-stained ceilings in the bathroom from an above-room leak or too much moisture; as well as hairline cracks in the tile floor, the facility was clean, current, and chicly styled. It had a unique vibe. My room was spacious with clean towels, comfortable bed and linens, and a well-stocked minibar. The complimentary breakfast comprised of an omelette stand and traditional--but fresher and tastier--hotel grub was excellent. It also had a varied selection of breakfast and energy bars, which was a nice touch for those on the go. The hotel has an eclectic selection of mass produced and edgy paintings and framed photos, albeit, generally tastefully done. Although, the antique black and white photo of the 1920's tween with piercing eyes had an element of The Shining to it. Easily remedied by placing it facedown on the credenza. Everything worked--hot and cold water, water pressure in the shower, and an effective air conditioner. Parking in the garage across the street is free on the weekends so no valet or parking up-charges. In summary, I would stay here again. The location is convenient, the hotel was clean, and the staff friendly. The leap to a fifth star is big only because I am particular about the little things (e.g., tile cracks and stained ceilings) that hoteliers and chains seem routinely to dismiss. Nonetheless, thumbs up in all other areas.

Susie N.

Yelp
Wonderful hotel. Currently, there are changes like a hand sanitizer dispenser by the elevator and grab-and-go items for the complimentary breakfast, which I really appreciate. Friendly staff. Great location, in easy walking distance to nice restaurants like Bubba and Centro. I recommend parking in the 9th and Locust parking ramp across the street. So far I have stayed here twice, both good experiences.

Kathryn K.

Yelp
Not worth the money. It's a beautiful hotel and we were encouraged by the aesthetic. However, our room SMELLED badly when we arrived and the bathroom wasn't clean. There was hair by the toilet and a fingernail clipping on the sink. The staff brought in an ionizer for the smell and sent someone to clean the bathroom while we were out. We appreciated the quick attention to our concerns. However, I couldn't help but wonder how clean everything else was. Design is great but not at the expense of cleanliness.

Carolina B.

Yelp
One of the nicest and most unique hotels in the greater Des Moines area! The reception desk staff is all extremely friendly! Check in and check out was a breeze. The lobby is beautifully appointed and the rooms are immaculate! Ours in particular had a high ceiling with a fireplace! The bathroom had a huge whirlpool tub and separate shower. The bed is super duper comfy and black out shades are always an awesome bonus! The complimentary breakfast is a nice ensemble of cereals, pastries, an omelet station and juices. Oh, and the gym is awesome--lots of different weight machines, free weights, a few different cardio machines, and two televisions, as well as a jacuzzi to soak in and enjoy! An excellent place to stay!

Kath F.

Yelp
Booked a room block and suite for our daughter's wedding. Staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating! Hotel and rooms are stunning, breakfast was plentiful and delicious, lobby bar accommodated a large group of "partyers" at a late hour - everyone went "above and beyond." Would highly recommend!

Megan C.

Yelp
This hotel is awesome! We came to Des Moines for a wedding and gave this local hotel a shot. It is super nice. Front desk staff was always helpful. Breakfast was great, better than chain hotels. We had an upgraded room with a fireplace. The fireplace was awesome, especially during the chilly winter.

M K.

Yelp
Staff that greeted me was very nice. The room is not worth the money for "downtown hip boutique hotel" - after unpacking i went to the window and discover it's an interior-facing window. If you put someone in a room with no window to the outside, tell them before they get to their room. There was a huge heavy chair in front of said window, so even opening or closing the curtains was very difficult. Trying to disguise the poor view? The lighting in the room is also very poor - there is a buzzing florescent overhead light. No natural light makes the room very very depressing. And a slight damp smell from the AC. The interiors of this hotel are not hip or edgy. The designer seemed very confused at what image they were trying to convey. Cream tile on the floor, white sink cabinet, brick wall in the bathroom (let's get edgy!), poorly sealed. Wallpaper bubbles in places. I should have stayed at a chain hotel near the airport and saved my money.

Nicole O.

Yelp
I came to Des Moines for a concert and choose this hotel due to the proximity and ratings it had. It did not disappoint! Such a gorgeous boutique hotel! Impeccable customer service. They were also kind enough to give us an upgrade. Splurge a bit and stay here if you are visiting Des Moines.

Kristi M.

Yelp
WOW! Beautiful hotel in downtown Des Moines. Never been here before and just passing thru on a road trip. After a nightmarish experience last night in Omaha we decided to pamper ourselves and booked the 5th floor king suite w/fireplace and jacuzzi. Impressive room, comfy bed and tons of amenities. At check-in the amazing ladies at the front desk recommeded 801 Chophouse and handed us a $25 gift card to use. Highly recommend you enjoy that little gem of a restaurant! Post fabulous meal, I'm sitting here sipping the bottle of wine from the room bar next to the fire while my daughter is in a bubble bath ala Pretty Woman... I'm so full I can't even think about breakfast in the morning but I'm sure I'll manage... I wish we were staying longer so I could check out the steam room and jacuzzi downstairs but we have to leave this paradise in the morning to continue our roadtrip. Definitely feeling pampered to the max!

Deb M.

Yelp
Visiting a daughter in Des Moines. Booked a double queen room. Upon arrival we valeted our cars. Entering the hotel you are greeted with gilded accents, opulent furniture and a large gold Peacock. The staff was friendly. There are no bellhops so luggage is on you to get to your room. Carts are available. Desk staff not only are responsible for check-in/check-out but, also have to retrieve cars. While the front desk person was getting our two cars, two guests were looking for assistance. We explained he was retrieving cars so they never did get their questions answered. There is a bar off the lobby and they do serve breakfast in the morning until 10 am. It is not complimentary. Our room was well appointed with exposed brick, gilded statues and plenty of space. The bathroom was disappointing, while large, it was almost as if they ran out of money when they got to it. Based on the impression of the lobby and the rest of the guest room, I expected more. Great wallpaper and double sink, but basic tile shower/tub combo. Our room was very cold when we arrived, we adjusted the thermometer to heat and left for the day. On returning our room was the same cold room. We called the front desk. A staff member arrived tried the same thing we did to no avail. We were offered a king room with fireplace but they had to add a rollaway. We accepted the room. It was much more comfortable. More positives than negatives so we would recommend this hotel.

Kristina L.

Yelp
I have not stayed in this hotel (but I can only imagine it is exquisite), but this review is for their lounge/bar area. This is one of Des Moines best kept secrets for cocktails. The best Martini youll ever have, for sure. Sherry is a one of a kind bartender. She remembers everyone she meets and makes you feel very special. The Black Thai Affair is seriously an amazing martini. Ive heard its won a few local awards for best martini, and it lives up to those awards! The ambiance is great too. Very sheek and warm. Cant say enough about this place. I recommend it to all of my friends!

Laura P.

Yelp
I will preface that I was staying at this hotel with one of their very frequent travelers. Maybe they were giving us the VIP treatment, maybe not. But wow, it was so nice. From the valet, to our bags being brought up and unloaded, to the shuttle - they were so incredibly accommodating and pleasant while doing so. One of my friends even forgot her cell phone in the car and they went to retrieve it for her. The beds were huge and luxurious with multiple pillows. The bathroom had big enough counters and mirrors for at least 3 women to sprawl out their products and get their hair and makeup done simultaneously. And the decor was on point - not cheesy, mass produced hotel "art," but instead a picture of a kitten giving you the middle finger. I mean, c'mon. How great is that? They do have a bar downstairs, and we did plan on having a drink... until the bartender made a sarcastic comment about what we were wearing, something about "is this a 90's theme party?" So we took our money and our fabulous attire elsewhere.

Paul B.

Yelp
Cool, classy atmosphere. Large bar area with most of the seating at tables. Actual bar seats about 6. They have a good selection of contemporary and classic cocktails. The drinks are great but a little on the high end. The crowd is older and laid back. The one bartender was supporting the entire bar. She was hustling to keep everybody happy. This would probably be better for group visits than going by yourself to socialize.

Michael F.

Yelp
The rooms here are large with nice architectural features. The hotel is at least 100 years old and few of the rooms have fireplaces. My room was very spacious, and it had a cove ceiling with indirect lighting. It also had a brick wall, and was very cozy. Lots of perks! I certainly enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. The spa/fitness center is definitely a major plus. Great service and fabulous location.

Sophia A.

Yelp
Amazing hotel, staff, and experience. Tiffany is great thank you. I wanted to book last minute at 7 PM and a place with a little jacuzzi tub in the room. We arrived at 7 and they had exactly what we were looking for no booking ahead needed, perfect luxurious rooms with Voss water and a fancy Alexa thing. 6'4 big husband and big me in a tub FIT BOTH OF US and relaxed forever. And the WHIRPOOL downstairs and STEAM SAUNA. No pool. Locker rooms are AMAZING showers and lockers and toilet. And a huge fitness excercise room. Fireplace in room FREE BREAKFAST OMELETTES were so goooood. Better than Embassy Suites. The works. So glad we stayed here!! Will be back again for sure when we are in Des Moines!! Love u guys.

Katie A.

Yelp
Clean, clean. Beautiful decor. Comfortable bed and pillow. Nice spa & fitness area. Clean. Wonderful made to order omelets complimentary breakfast. In downtown area that is clean. In walking distance to sculpture park. Found on Yelp, good reviews are correct. Great place, great value.

T.J. C.

Yelp
Wonderful and helpful staff, hot breakfast and tons of options for cold breakfast. Great rooms and location. The decor is starting to get a bit hedonistic. Do people really want to see nude sculptures while working out in the fitness room or in the public bathrooms??? You can tell that the cleaning crew is a bit understaffed as everything needed a dusting. But they do have curtains!!! So many hotels have opted for blinds only that let the light shine in. Nice bar with great, friendly, attentive bartenders.

Yelp
My flight was delayed and I didn't get to the hotel until 3am. The room was prepaid. When I got to the hotel "Alan" told me my room was canceled because I didn't call to let them know. I would maybe understand losing the reservation but not when it's pre paid. I was not given a room or refund

Yelp
I recently stayed for the weekend. The lobby of the hotel is beautiful and the furnishings in the rooms are nice but... Valet parking is unorganized and unprofessional. My car was damaged by the valet and no one informed me. I only discovered it after I left. So far, I've gotten no response from the hotel. Suites: the gateway suite and the presidential suite are a mess. They have no natural light because the only windows in the suites open to an awkward shared atrium. The security on these doors is pretty poor as we were able to open the other suite's doors accidentally before we realized what that room was. One night, we woke up at three am to someone trying to open our doors. Yikes. The gateway suite was in disrepair with wood trim falling off, wallpaper peeling from the bathroom walls and an off putting humid smell. I've stayed in a lot of hotel rooms and suites and, other than the upscale furniture and bar, I'd struggle to call this room a suite. Certainly not worth the price.

Yelp
Darling hotel! Love the kitschy artwork and room was so comfortable with fireplace. Right in the heart of downtown. Definitely recommend it.

Yelp
Came to Des Moines with my husband and 5 1/2 month old from cali for our first time for my best friends wedding. From the moment we checked in, we were greeted by a very nice gentlemen. He was extremely welcoming and accommodating. He Knew it was our first time and upon request upgraded us to a suite for no extra charge. We were staying for two nights. The room was absolutely beautiful! Being a first time EXHAUSTED mom and seeing a huge Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom was my favorite part by far!!! I was giddy!! The room was very clean, there was a fireplace and beautiful dim lighting. All and all just a very calming and very comfortable huge bed! On top of having an amazing Suite, we ordered room service a few times and the salads were delicious! Service was quick. On Sunday we realized we didn't bring our I-phone chargers and asked the guy at the front where we can find a walgreens so we can buy one, it was a ghost town that day, everything was closed except the gas stations where we found a car charger. When we got back and told the manager what happened when we saw him, he went to the back and brought us one to use until the end of our stay. So thoughtful! He was even concerned about our stay and asked how we like our room. Complimentary breakfast too? wow, it does get better! omelets made to order, lots of other things to choose from along with some coffee, orange juice, apple juice or a block walk away from starbucks! did i mention the free parking lot???? We also enjoyed the bar on one of our nights with some friends. exceeded our expectations by far!!!!!! five star service!!

Yelp
I've never been so impressed with customer service at a hotel. From small thoughtful gestures like bringing my husband's soda up to the room after he left it on the check-in desk to driving us to the airport when we learned it would take 45 min for a cab to arrive at the hotel. So grateful and impressed. The hotel also has many other perks: like a fully equipped fitness center, spa and free breakfast with made-to-order eggs and fresh waffles! We'll definitely be back the next time we visit DSM.

Yelp
I have stayed here twice now in the last two months, and I can only say that if this is the "best" Des Moines has to offer, it just emphasizes how bad the Des Moines experience can be! On my first visit, room is ok nothing special. They claimed they served a continental breakfast which was nothing but sugar-laden donuts and bad coffee. This second time around, they claimed they had a hot breakfast. Well let me tell you that powdered eggs and biscuits with gravy glue do not a breakfast make! My god those eggs had no taste - why bother serving this crap? For the room this time - well that was a treat. The hotel was sold out of the usual double rooms, and we were relegated to a fireplace suite. The bathroom was the size of my bedroom except that it was so misconfigured! There was a huge glass shower that they put in front of the massive jacuzzi tub that was on a 2 1/2 foot platform. It basically blocked access to the tub unless you climbed around the platform. But I was determined to have bath, so after it took an hour to fill the tub, I turned on the jacuzzi. It was the sound of a 747 with all engines on - an incredible rumbling that woke everyone! Great fireplace with timers you could set to 10 minutes, but of course I turned it on and thought there would not be any heat (to my surprise there was!) even though I had the air-conditioning on full force since it was about 90 degrees outside.
