This place gets it right, a comfortable general store that has quality and unique home, personal, and gift items primarily made by Iowans. Included are kitchen goodies, cook books, candles, and cards. Owner Mallory is a wonderfully kind person with a great feel for her store. Loved that she recommended and supports her shop neighbors. Located on Des Moines' Northside where the historic Highland Park and Oak Park neighborhoods converge, it's a fun visit.

Des Moines Mercantile is my husband's and my FAVORITE store in Des Moines! A great selection of unique finds that you know will be quality for your home, as a gift, or a treat for yourself. Highly recommend following them on social media to stay in the know on different pop-up events and vendors (they frequently have flowers and other goodies!), so it's a must-visit in the area! We almost never leave empty-handed, and the staff is incredibly helpful, kind, and educated on the items they keep in stock. 10/10 for us!

My husband and I stopped by and loved it so much we went back a week later. We loved the store and enjoyed visiting with the owner. Will stop again!

Stepping into this shop feels like you’re in some fictional town from your fav 90s sitcom. It brings you back to simpler times and immediately gives you all the cozy feelings. The owner Mallory Richardson, has been so thoughtful with every aspect of the shop. From outside and in! I love how much they collaborate with other local small businesses and the Mercantile Market they created that has now morphed into Northside Market to celebrate the whole neighborhood! This is the perfect shop to go to when looking for a gift or any item for the home!

I’ve only been to this store a few times but always love to stop in and see what they have. I enjoy learning about small businesses that this store helps out. The store has a wide variety and the notes/cards/puzzles are so fun to get!

Impeccable store with a great variety of sustainable items and very nice textiles. However, the staff member was lacking in warmth which caused us to leave empty handed. An amazing store I will not return to.

Lovely shop with many more items, including an awesome children's corner, than I expected. The friendliness of the staff and quality of the cooking/baking ingredients was excellent and I've been back twice more for purchases. I highly recommend them!

I absolutely love this shop and the well-curated selection of home goods by Iowa makers. It's such a warm and welcoming stop every time I visit the historic Highland Park neighborhood. And I never leave empty handed. My favorite product is their refillable candle by local potter First Light Pottery. Watch for restock alerts and be sure to grab one when available. It's one of the best gifts I've given to myself (and to my sister!)

Yelp
Featuring mostly Iowa-made products for your home, office, kitchen, bathroom, pantry, or a gift, this store, located where the historic Oak Park and Highland Park neighborhoods meet on Des Moines' north side, gets it right! There is such a good vibe within, as owner Mallory is a friendly, kind person who has a lot of unique, hand-made, terrific items. She's a Story City native and a UNI grad, and she fully supports and recommends some nearby shops. I especially loved her greeting cards, candles, charcuterie boards, and cookbooks. The shop is in its fifth year and is thriving. I appreciated the fair pricing and overall quality of the products. We will add Des Moines Mercantile to our stops on future visits to Des Moines.

Yelp
What a cute store! We just happened to be in the neighborhood and thought we would check it it. They had a variety of cool cool books to cooking utensils to cookware. They had pillows made from recycled vintage wool blankets. The cast iron cookware is amazing. There were even candles and some baby clothes and books. They had small bags of coffee from Guatemala and a few other places.

Yelp
They focus on local sellers and products. I picked up some lotion from Bramble Wood Acres, locust grove farm co dish soap, a soap dish and brush! They have a carefully curated selection of kids books, and cook books. The products they sell are obviously selected with love and locality in mind!

Yelp
Super cute and charming store. Fun gifts for friends and local selections for home decor and more. Friendly owners who also gave us a sustainable tote bag with our purchase. Must check it out!
