Whilst our above ground room was very large, it was next door to a permanent residence of the hotel. Their cooking was offensive and we were overwhelmed with the smell of their food. We tried our best to air it out but it was to no avail. M We were also near above the pokies entrance where attendees were smoking so we had that to contend with as well. The hallways to the room were nothing short of disgusting they arent being cleaned at all. Dirt and dust piled up in corners and over skirting boards. Our room cleanliness was average. Mould in shower grout and build up of grime in basin that I could wipe off with my fingers. Weren’t advised on check in that the pool had been shut down. Sign on gate says for maintenance so hopefully that is the case but we were disappointed as we booked somewhere with a pool to get relief from the summer heat! The underground tunnel was a joy to the kids and the customer service at reception welcoming and professional. Didn’t want to stick around for breakfast!

We can not praise this place enough. Great experience in the underground rooms. Spacious, comfy & amazing wifi that worked. Management & housekeeping were lovely and friendly and so helpful. Convenient parking for our van, walking distance for dining too. Great breakfast options as well. This hotel made our stay at Coober Pedy fantastic.. Jules & Jim WA

We stayed in one of the underground rooms at the Desert Cave Hotel, and overall it was a unique and enjoyable experience — but there were a couple of things that could’ve been better. When we first entered the room, there was an unpleasant smell, and we soon realised the toilet hadn’t been flushed properly and it was not a number one. Not the ideal welcome, but once we addressed it and let the room air out, things improved. The bed was spacious, though not the most comfortable. Being in the underground section is a really cool experience, but one downside is that the doors echo quite loudly — you can hear other guests coming and going, especially at night. Another disappointment was that the pool was out of order during our stay, which was a shame considering how hot Coober Pedy can get. Aside from those hiccups, we did enjoy our stay and loved the novelty of the underground setting. With a bit more attention to detail and noise control, it could be a fantastic experience.

1 star due to having to deal with people that can’t speak english and due to the fact I booked tha day I tried to cancel without charge under circumstances beyond my control, which was broke down between port Augusta and Coober Pedy driving to Alice spring for last nursing placement to get the degree at the end of the month, so booked here as I was told by the insurance company we would’ve going to Coober Pedy which then turned out to be port Augusta with a cost of 2500$ I had to coverup front with a reimbursement of 1700$ plus Accomodation plus being 2 days late to start my placement only to be refused the refund. Circumstances explained and still nothing except refusal. What kind of Australian especially people that service the outback have no understanding of our cultural way of life!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Desert Cave Hotel. It was a great experience to sleep in our comfortable underground room. They had an onsite cafe/bar which was open all day from which they offered a complimentary coffee (for each person each day). This was on top of the complimentary tea and coffee supplied in our room. We were also offered discounted meals - breakfast (in the cafe) and dinner (at the near by Opal Bistro). Very pleasant staff and complimentary airport pickup was very much appreciated. I'd highly recommend a stay at the best hotel in Coober Pedy!

The staff here are very friendly and helpful. The driver of our airport transfer loaned my grandson a shovel and sifter so that he could do some noodling during our stay which made him very happy and excited.|When visiting Cooper Pedy you want to experience a room accomodation that is underground and the Desert Cave Hotel is one of the best. The rooms are a good size and have the basic fridge, coffee - tea making provided.|You will not find air conditioning in the underground rooms as the room temperature ranges between 21 - 24 degrees all year round. They do have fans for those rare occasions in summer when you may feel the heat.|The internet is very hit and miss but that could have been because we were in an underground room.|They have on site dining for breakfast but you have to go elsewhere for lunch and dinner.|Unfortunately the shower has low water pressure and trying to adjust between too hot and too cold takes a lot of time. It is a big disadvantage for the rating of this hotel.|The beds are a bit hard and you get an assortment of hard and soft pillows. They do not make up your room daily so if you want clean towels you need to get them from reception, they have pool towels to.|You take do a quick walk through their free museum display that goes under the complex.|The hotel is within walking distance of other dining experiences, the local IGA and lots of opal shops for any shopping you may want to do.
