Desert Cultural Centre (puppet show)

Totally charming and fascinating! Wonderful to explore this lovely small museum of artefacts from Rajasthani culture, including musical instruments and traditional clothing. The puppet show is the main attraction, shows at 6:30 and 7:30pm, running about 40 minutes, the 3 artists take great pride in showcasing Rajasthani culture with huge amounts of skill. The dholak and khartal players are brilliant! They should be on huge stages! And the puppeter, son of the man who created the museum, shares his skill with great passion and sensitivity. The puppets are sweet and funny, and the artists share about the meaning behind each performance (when I was there, in Hindi, English and French!). Entrance fee is only 200r, and it is well worth it for a wonderful experience. Bring some extra to tip the performers, as you will be entranced! There is also a shop with many books (some written by the museum creator!) and souvenirs. Thank you for such a beautiful heartfelt experience.

This place is very unique and one of the only places remaining which preserves puppet shows, one of the traditional artforms which beautifuly showcases the culture and the history of Jaisalmer. The museum is excellent. The souvenirs are good. Must visit for tourists who are coming to Jaisalmer.

Amazing presentation of Rajasthan's rich culture and one of the famous form of Art. Puppet show. A must watch 30-40 mins show just opposite the entrance of Gadisar lake at Jaisalmer. Show timing 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm. Such command and perfection of the art. It's a marvelous live performing team of 3 ppl with puppets and folk songs

A hidden undiscovered and underrated treasure of Jaisalmer. Thanks to Late Mr. N. K. Sharma and his family members for preserving this old aged Rajasthani traditional puppet show and maintaining the Museum till date. The Rajasthan Government needs to take initiative in preserving this rich Rajasthani culture and promote it as much as they can. A must visit to all the tourists who want to experience old traditional Rajasthani culture and heritage.

Absolutely loved the experience! It is a must watch it you are in Jaisalmer. There are two puppet shows. One from 6:30pm and the other from 7:30pm. Good for enhancing your knowledge about the city and its foundation. At the end they also show you a little demonstration of the puppetry. They provide narration in both Hindi and English.

Visited on 21st Jan - Overall amazing experience. Great presentation of Rajasthans famous art form. Around 40-45 mins show. Accessible Location near Gadisar Lake. After the show, we can also buy books or souveniors from here and see a small museum showing Jaisalmers history. Overall a great and must have experience!!

A hidden gem in Jaisalmer! The Dessert Cultural Centre Museum offers a fascinating peek into Rajasthan's rich heritage. The puppet show was incredibly entertaining, and the museum itself is full of interesting artifacts. They also have a nice souvenir shop to pick up unique local crafts. Definitely worth a visit!
