3 Best Day Trips from Las Vegas | Condé Nast Traveler

"For those who just want a bit of history on their hike (and want it to be more like a walk on a paved road than an actual hike), the Desert Valley Overlook is the perfect place to take in views of the Mojave Desert with very little effort. The path is only a quarter-mile, paved walkway close to the Deer Creek Highway of the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area (aka Mount Charleston). Park in the little parking lot and you'll walk up a gentle slope to viewing platforms with panels telling you the history of this place—a popular vantage point for watching atomic bomb testing in the 1950s. The Overlook has amazing views of the Las Vegas valley. My favorite time to visit is at sunrise. It's definitely worth a the stop if you are showing visitors around Mt. Charleston.

The views were wonderful. The path was paved and easily accessible to all. It was a short walk that can be completed by pretty much anyone. Disappointed that there was no signage in regards to information about the area. There were signage stands everywhere, but they were all blank . It looked like they had removed all the information posters for some reason. I would have loved to have been able to learn more about the area.

If you live in Vegas... take a drive here early in the morning, get out of that heat. It's absolutely beautiful and peaceful really in the morning

Such a lovely walk very short, but beautiful view! There is signage stands, but the signs have been removed. Would’ve been nice to have. Overall, I recommend for the view.

Beautiful views!! They also have picnic spaces, and it's cooler than the city temperature 👍

Beautiful overlook of the desert. Only complaint was the vandalism of the information board and/or they have been bleached out and weathered by the sun so they are unreadable. They distract from the beautiful views.

8.8/10 great for a quick little walk with an absolutely stunning view of the harsh otherlyworld seemingly (from 8400ft up in the trees and moutain). I could most definitely tell the difference of breathing at 1800ft as opposed to 8400, and it only takes less than an hour to make that huge increase and decrease of oxygen LoL. Love stopping @ the hotel/restraunt and deeply miss the cabin and snowboarding!!! hope this will finally be brought back in the next two years.

A nice spot for pictures and a view. The paved trail is good for a short walk and most times has information on the area view and such. Also good for bird watching
