I recently tried Desi Contemporary Indian Cuisine for the first time. The restaurant has an incredibly artistic, contemporary vibe as compared to most Indian restaurants. The service was good but quite slow. We ended up waiting quite a while for both our drinks and food. We ordered the following drinks:
1. Gabru (2/5) - The edible paper and tones of saffron in the drink was quite interesting for us! Otherwise, the drink was pretty lackluster.
2. Gur Nalo Ishq Mitha (4/5) - I mostly ordered the drink because I liked the name of it. It was surprisedly good though! I didn't expect to like the cantaloupe flavor as much as I did!
3. Desi Cold Coffee (4/5) - Their take on the drink was creative and playful, but it still had the flavors and comfort of the original drink.
4. Saffron Thandai (4/5) - This was my first time trying Thandai. This drink was comforting, warm, and tasty!
For appetizers, we ordered the Verde Cutlet and Basil Paneer Tikka. The presentation of the dishes was truly immaculate! The Basil Paneer Tikka (5/5) was beautifully seasoned and charred and paired with flavorful chutneys. The salad on the side of the plate was very well dressed and added a nice element of freshness to the plate! The Verde Cutlet (3/5) was average. The pairing with hummus made the dish feel a bit too heavy and added little complexity to the dish. The pink chutney had a light, indistinct flavor that didn't do much for the dish.
We ordered the following main courses:
1. Desi Paneer Bowl (5/5) - This was by far the best dish we had here! The paneer was beautifully seasoned and charred and paired with a light, aromatic sauce over a bed of yellow rice. The salad offered a light, freshness to the dish. The tandoori vegetables were quite spicy and tasty! Overall, I would definitely recommend this dish!
2. Aloo Ghobi & Parantha (2/5) - While the Parantha was average, the Aloo Ghobi was lackluster. It was under-seasoned and quite underwhelming. I would definitely recommend avoiding this dish.
3. Dal Makhani Sourdough Naan (2/5) - We were really excited to try Sourdough Naan, but it honestly didn't taste any different than you average plain naan. The dal makhani was overly creamy, poorly seasoned, and pretty bland. Overall, the dish was quite disappointing and did not live up to our expectations.
If you are looking for reliably good Indian food, I would recommend not going to this restaurant or really researching your order before going to this restaurant.
