We have been to Dorf Tirolo about 6 times before (and the Sud Tirol region lots of times over the last 18 years.||This is the first time we have stayed at Hotel Gartner; we wanted a change from the hotel that we have normally stayed at (and have reviewed before - Panorama Vital Hotel Rimmele). We wanted a good standard hotel and this hotel did not disappoint. It is situated on the edge of the village, which means you have a 5/10 minute walk up hill to get to the centre of the village. However it is therefore closer to the chairlift to Meran. We walk a great deal while we are away and there are many great walks in the vicinity. We are always amazed that more Brits don’t visits the area, but that’s how we like it too. ||The Hotel is a family run hotel, the staff work very very hard to make sure you are comfortable and enjoy your stay. The owners are heavily involved in the running of the hotel and are very visible and welcoming. It is a more contemporary designed hotel, and is very stylish. The room was great and had air conditioning. There is a turn down service too. The food was very good, breakfast quite extensive and the evening meal was normally 5 courses including the salad at the start and there was a choice for 2 or 3 of the courses. We were there for 11 nights and the restaurant staff were great at remembering us and what we wanted to drink etc. The pool and spa facilities were excellent. The only downside was that towards the end there were some noisy children in the pool area, but the hotel have a daily news sheet and through that asked them to be better behaved (or perhaps their parents to take more responsibility for their children).||The hotel also accepts dogs, which the owners have to pay for. We were surprised at how many people seem to take their dogs on holiday and as we had a room that led out onto the garden we were perhaps more aware of them wandering about! (From our experience this doesn’t happen much in the UK!) ||Other reviews mention the Wi Fi, we found it a bit variable if we tried using our phone or iPad, but no problem at all with my MacBookPro.||The dog issue was only a minor point though and we were impressed overall with the hotel and what it offered and how well it was run and managed and how hard everyone worked and we can happily recommend it.
