Visiting from Australia. We were so fortunate to get a table as a walk-in on night 1 of an 8 night stay in Copenhagen at this gorgeous and very special restaurant. We ordered the Apoteker Plate. It is SO MUCH food but also so incredibly delicious. The atmosphere in what is Copenhagen’s oldest restaurant is gorgeous. It is a little squishy due to being a building comprising smaller rooms, but absolutely worth dining in. And the service was warm, friendly and attentive. Highly, highly recommend.

Very good restaurant and all dishes were excellent at the highest quality. We were at 3 in the evening and it was the most delicious restaurant in the city, so I personally recommend you to go here as it is one of the oldest and most delicious restaurants. You will not regret! Good continuation in business

Google
Great Danish restaurant in the downtown. Good variety of food and drinks, and even some vegetarian options. The service staff are very friendly, polite, and efficient. There are sitting areas outside by the sidewalk too. American/foreign credit cards are hit with an additional 3% service charge, but that's typical for many restaurants and cafes in Copenhagen.

Booking is absolutely required, and we were lucky to snag a table since we just booked the day before! The herring trio was a real highlight — featuring curry herring with egg, dill herring, and parsley herring. The curry variety paired with egg was unexpectedly awesome and my personal favorite. We shared the ½ roasted duck and roasted pork. The duck stood out — juicy, tender, and so flavorful. The pork was tasty too, though a tad too salty for my taste. Overall really loving the vibes and all the lovely staff!

I really enjoyed having lunch with my colleagues at Det Lille Apotek. It’s a super cute and very historical place, known as the oldest restaurant in Copenhagen. The interior is charming and old-fashioned, and it really feels like stepping back in time. I had the open sandwich with truffle mayo, and it was absolutely delicious. I also had the tartelet , which was much bigger than usual—you only get one, but it’s more than enough. It was super tasty and made in the classic style with chicken and asparagus, which I love. They also added a bit of green asparagus, which was a nice twist. We got a great selection of snaps I tried some of the sweeter ones, like apple, vanilla and almond, and it felt like having dessert in a glass. So good. They offer both traditional and more fruity or unique flavors, so there’s something for everyone. If you want to try Danish food in a really cozy and authentic setting, this place does it right. Definitely worth a visit.

Google
Beautiful restaurant if you want a cozy and warm atmosphere. We stayed for 3 hours just enjoying the experience. Our service was excellent, and the duck was one to remember. It was my sisters birthday and they even treated us to complimentary homemade rhubarb schnapps. In addition they put a Canada flag on the table as a birthday tradition. Over all would go again!!

Google
I should’ve made a reservation but was fortunate that there was a no-show, and the staff were very kind to give the table to me. The restaurant was cozy and quaint, and staff were very friendly and helpful. The pickled herring isn’t for everyone but I enjoyed the generous helpings and unusual flavors. Unique too was that the bread was served with both LARD (mmm!) and butter. I also took on the server’s recommendation to try the danish meatball which was very well cooked, well seasoned and not greasy. Helpings were absolutely generous such that there was no room for dessert. Definitely book ahead! Thanks for the enjoyable experience.

Google
one of the oldest restaurants in copenhagen denmark with authentic danish food. i tried the flæskesteg (the crispy pork belly) and it was AMAZING. the crispy fat is yummy, nicely crunchy and salty. the fat within the pork is always soft and savory. it comes with some carmelized potatoes, which were delicious, normal potatoes, pickles. i wish there were more carnelizdd potatoes and pickles. my one complaint is that it’s PRICEY. the service was very friendly.

Yelp
I came to Restaurant Det Lille Apotek solely for the gluten free smørrebrød: a traditional open-faced sandwich from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden that's made with buttered rye bread and a variety of toppings. I wandered in sometime between the traditional lunch and dinner hours. Pro-tip: This is one of the best times to visit restaurants if you're looking for a more intimate experience. I definitely hit the jackpot at Restaurant Det Lille Apotek! The restaurant was relatively empty during my visit, and I benefited by receiving exceptional customer service and a ton of local insights from my server. Specific to this restaurant, my server informed me that Restaurant Det Lille Apotek is the oldest restaurant in Copenhagen (dating back to 1720), and the table just a few feet away from where I was sitting was a favorite of the well-known Danish poet Hans Christian Andersen. He also recommended three quarters of the dishes and drinks that I ordered. All things considered, I had a first-rate dining experience here, and I highly recommend the restaurant.

Yelp
One of the best curry herring sandwiches I've had in awhile. Went mid week, just after the lunch rush and had no problem getting a table. Quaint little place in the basement, definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Really authentic danish food at the oldest restaurant in Copenhagen. We got the chicken appetizer pie thing, pork shoulder and schnitzels. I really enjoyed the crispy pork shoulder, definitely a highlight. Need a reservation for sure when visiting.

Yelp
Great food and fast service. Have a reservation, they fill fast and we're turning folks away. Food was well prepared and came hot and quickly.

Yelp
We were very excited to get a reservation to the oldest restaurant in Copenhagen. Unfortunately we found the food to be mediocre. We have had some great food in Copenhagen but this was not one of the restaurants we would recommend. The first indication was that the bread was not crusty or tasty and very disappointing for a fine dining restaurant. The mushroom pie appetizer had a sauce we both found very heavy and we did not really like the taste. The crust was too light for such a thick sauce. We barely touched this dish. I had the schnitzel which was thick and too chewy. The breading was also kind of soggy and not crisp. It was a large piece of which I ate maybe a third before I gave up on my struggle to eat it. My wife had the fish. She loves fish but she could only get through a third of it. It had very little flavor profile. We were very disappointed,to say the least, to spend $100 on such poor quality food. I would not suggest eating at this restaurant.

Yelp
Allegedly the oldest restaurant in Copenhagen, "the Little Pharmacy" opened in 1720, and the interior has not been altered in over 150 years. Famous individuals who frequented the restaurant included Hans Christian Andersen and Peter Faber. It's a very traditional Danish restaurant, and we ordered two open-faced sandwiches: beef tartare and smoked herring. However, I couldn't get past the fact that it cost me $36 for two small and mediocre sandwiches. For comparison, we had a dinner that cost about the same with much better quantity and quality of food.

Yelp
Despite having been to Copenhagen umpteen times, I've never been to this place before...my partner (she's Danish) booked us in before we even flew Its a strange, dark little place but the food is good and the service efficient...we had some bubbles to start with and a bottle of Cote du Rhone - that was half the bill! Oh yes the food...well you have to have the roast pork + crackling...this has got to be the only country other than the UK that does this meal like this as "normal"...I remember living in Sweden, years ago, and we served this to a group of friends and colleagues one day for Sunday lunch...I thought some were going to pass out at the thought Anyway, delicious...a couple of desserts and bye bye Dkr1,144 I'm sure there are other places which are equally good but this is a bit of history too Make sure you book!

Yelp
I wish I could give this place more stars, but as a vegetarian I could not connect with the menu. Let's start off with a fact- this is one of the oldest places in Copenhagen and was a former pharmacy. They are known for their classic Danish food which is meat heavy although they serve the meat dishes with potatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, and asparagus the kitchen refuses to use those same items for non-meat eaters. So if somehow you find yourself at a group dinner like I did don't plan to eat entrees but consider ordering tea, wine or beer, and indulging on the enticing desserts like rhubarb pudding or apple crumble to keep you momentarily distracted. The service is friendly but not fast which maybe the Danish way of dining and decorated with historic china and art. The meat eaters didn't rave about the food, I think it was more of an experience for them.

Yelp
Such a great experience overall. From the moment you enter until you leave. As you taste the amazing food you are also delighted with a glimpse of history throughout the place. The ambiance was peaceful but vibrant with life as other patrons enjoyed their meals and company.

Yelp
Hailed as the oldest restaurant in Copenhagen, I truly appreciate this restaurant for its old school charm and touch of history. They also claim that Hans Christian Andersen frequented the restaurant. I thought it was really cool that they had pamphlets and placemats for you to read about the history of each room, its original purpose, and special details of various pieces of decor. I ordered the Christiansopigens Herring open face sandwich since it was our first meal in Copenhagen. I really wanted to try this famous dish for myself. I actually enjoyed it a lot. It tasted like fish but wasn't fishy (if that makes sense). I like the sauce and runny egg that it was paired with as well. We also got a fried fish that was good but there wasn't anything that special or unique about it. Since it was soooo cold outside, we ordered a pot of tea and it was amazing! The aroma, warmth, and taste was unlike anything I've ever had. I believe they charge tea by the person but it's pretty worth it, especially in the winter. Overall, this restaurant was so quaint and cozy and a good introduction to Danish food (plus an interesting background story of its origins!

Yelp
Great food if you are a meat eater. Absolutely no options or accommodations if you are a vegetarian. One member of my large party could not order anything on the menu. Asked if she could just order vegetable sides for her entree and was told no. We also would have loved to try the open faced sandwiches, but had to order for the whole table. Again, because there were no vegetarian options, half the menu was eliminated for the entire large party. When asked for any vegetarian accommodations, said no, they were an official danish establishment. I guess the Danes don't eat vegetables.

Yelp
I'm sure dinner is wonderful here, but my advice is to head here on a weekday for lunch, when it's a bit quieter and you can soak up the classic Danish atmosphere (and impressive history) without feeling rushed. I was so happy that they had gluten-free bread - but if you don't need to eat GF, I recommend the plaice smørrebrød, tasty enough that it was worth a little discomfort later on :)

Yelp
The Frikadeller with kraut and accoutrement is absolutely delicious!! A great spot in Nørreport for anyone looking to take a trip down memory lane.

Yelp
My family members and our Tour's by Locals guide; Jens Rasmussen ate here for lunch...his recommendation. This is the oldest restaurant in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is small and charming serving authentic Danish food. Locals eat a light lunch of open face sandwiches, Fish, and Pork dishes. My sister had the Pate dish and my mother ordered the meatballs. I had the Pork Loin. Dishes usually came with their dense Rye Bread. Other dishes ordered were Fried Herring and Corned Beef Hash w/eggs. The best tasting dishes were the pate (very light) and the meat balls. Rating: 4 Stars

Yelp
Old school since 1720. What American tourist goes to Europe looking for 'new' buildings or 'new' restaurants, we go there for the history. Going to a restaurant that's been around longer than the USA is going to draw me in. The dinner menu is a bit pricey but we went during lunch time and the prices are reasonable. You are a fool to pass up on a historic place like this, the homemade fried meatball sandwich was okay but the atmosphere made up for it.

Yelp
Been here twice within one week...! Amazing dinner dishes. Authentic Danish. Pork roast, paprika stew, wienerschnitzels, all knock-outs, not to mention their desserts. Service has room for improvement. But food compensates that. Still a 5 star restaurant.

Yelp
Purported to be the oldest restaurant in Copenhagen, "the Little Pharmacy" opened in 1720 by an aspiring pharmacist who started to add spices to his distilled spirits and eventually turned his pharmacy business into a restaurant and bar. Legend has it that the first location burned down and that the current location opened in the 1800's. Many of the original fixtures are visible throughout the restaurant from the stained glass windows to the lamps. The paintings are reproductions as many have been ruined throughout the years. But it is fun to see all the history- just watch your head as you step down into the place as you're likely to hit your head on the overhead timber. The food is also quite good. We had the poached salmon and the steak on a stone. While the salmon was good , it was rather ordinary. The steak on a stone was interesting as it comes as a full steak on a hot plate. Want it med rare? Leave it whole on the stone to cook. Well done? Slice it into 6 pieces and cook it that way. It was quite good and it came with Bernadine sauce and curry spiced potatoes. Service was terrific-personable and friendly and they really went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. I love old things- but when they can pull off good food too it's a double win! Stop in and eat in a piece of Copenhagen's history!

Yelp
Nice environment, however I wouldn't advice to go there out of the busiest hours. The were doing everything in a rush and they almost kicked us out to prepare the tables for dinner one hour later. Dissapointing :(

Yelp
Near the Round Tower on a quiet street away from the crowds. Loved the food! Authentic Danish.

Yelp
Touristy kind of place. Server/manager rude - caught them making face at my guy when he asked where the restroom was behind his back. It was weird. The portions were absolutely enormous. My roast pork was fine, but his fried pork slices with parsley sauce were not prepared well (super desiccated) according to the research we did after the fact. Shame. It's on a lovely street.

Yelp
Decent place to take guests if they're keen to stay in the downtown area, but definitely a bit of a tourist trap. But relative to other tourist traps I've been in, this isn't terrible. The food is passable, the prices are ok, and the service is really quite nice. Portions are huge. As in comically huge. Some of us literally laughed upon seeing the amount of food. Sadly a bit of a waste since the Danish dishes of fried pork and battered fish are not things that keep well for the next day. Outdoor seating is on a quiet semi-pedestrian street with a view of the Round Tower and Vor Frue Kirke. Indoor seating is old-y time-y wooden tables and chairs/benches. If you're a local, not sure why you'd ever want to come here. If you're a tourist, there are better places for sure, but if you insist on staying within the Støget bubble, I guess this is ok. A useless, but true fact about this place: in the women's bathroom, the toilet is mounted up two high steps so you get the weird sense of being on a throne.

Yelp
The Little Pharmacy is the place where I bring anybody who wants to try Danish food & traditional danish vibe. Cute, little place & great traditional food & good prices. I suggest to book a table in advance though especially for weekends, it's easy to do on their website.

Yelp
Awesome every time! This restraunt is a bit off the beaten path, but not too far from the main pedestrian street. This place is OLD and is awesome inside! Great danish dishes, good specials. I have never been disappointed and I have visited about 4 times over 10 years. A must visit when you are in Copenhagen. Have a beer, then order the snaps and herring!

Yelp
A traditional Danish restaurant recommended by Rick Stevens, travel writer. The stone beef was the restaurant's famous dish. It was good. We got to cook the beef on a hot stone plate. The meat was tender but the sauce does not match the beef. It's an interesting experience and worth trying. The duck was over cooked. The side dishes of pickled vegetable and glazed root vegetable were delicious. The dishes are definitely traditional, matching the restaurant's interior decor. If you are downtown but don't want to eat on Copenhagen's main tourist street, this is the place to check out.

Yelp
We visited the place at lunch time and got seated without any reservation easily. Would not be possible for dinner, the place is small and quite busy. The staff also notified us that sharing a meal (e.g. ordering a single big plate of assorted meats and splitting it for two persons) is not usually allowed. So, minus one star for that. However, they were nice to allow it for us. I assume, that's, again, because we were at lunch time with only so few clients around. The food was very good. We were expecting some kind of a "tourist trap" serving crappy food for ridiculous prices. So we were pleasantly surprised to have a nice tasty meal. The prices are still in the "high" department, but so is the whole city of Copenhagen.

Teresa J.

Yelp
We are Americans traveling in Copenhagen on an extended business trip. This restaurant was recommended by a friend living in Denmark, and we were so pleased that we returned a second time with friends. The food is traditional, home-style cooking, but there are many different options on the menu and each seems to be thoughtfully prepared. Our group especially enjoyed the cheese plate (there is one with basil that's AMAZING), the Apotekerschnitzel, the duck, and the hash (if they have it). The "pancake" dessert is more like a crepe and absolutely delicious. The staff are attentive and very nice to tourists ;) And a very respectable wine selection, reasonably priced. Finally, the atmosphere is cozy, historical and traditional but super friendly. Very nice all around!

Yelp
Vey typical Danish food. Large portions! They state to give the size of a meal your grandmother gives you. Not expensive at all. Service with an attitude: they are the best and they know it. So be sure to make a reservation, don't simply walk in. Be sure to try herring. You have not visited Copenhagen if you didn't eat here.
