A very impressive waterfall with an equally impressive valley. You can reach the viewpoint from two sides, and we chose the gravel road, which was very bumpy and difficult to drive, but it was worth it. On the opposite side, there is a viewing platform, but on this side the edge is more accessible.

This place was one of my favorite places in Iceland. It makes you realize how small humans are compared to the earth and nature. The waterfall was a little bit of a walk from the parking lot it took us around 15-20 minutes. The pathway was not well organized so we had to improvise a little bit because the roads were blocked in many areas. We wanted to go down closer to the waterfall but due to safety reasons entry was not permitted. However, you can see in my video that there is a couple that went down close to the waterfall. It is technically not allowed but since there are no security or law enforcement present so people just go down and take pictures. I recommend that you abide by the regulations. I did get a nice picture thanks to them modeling for me. There is a bathroom by the parking lot and it was the environmentally friendly bio (?) bathrooms where your waste is used as fertilizer for the nature. The parking was free. There are two sides that you can go to but the angel that I went to was the side where you are not allowed to go close to. If you wish to go down then you should go on the west side of the waterfall (from when you are facing the waterfall like the pictures.)

We visited dettifoss around end of november! The drive from Rt 1 and the trail was covered in feet deep snow! The 1km hike from the parking lot gave amazing view! We loved the winter view! Felt like we travelled to a different planet.

This was personally my first time I have leaned BACK when I first saw a waterfall. It's so majestically powerful with such a large flow of water roaring down ferociously that made this such a unique experience and definitely was my favourite waterfall in Iceland. Vistas from the West did not disappoint and were simply incredible from both the lower and the upper observation areas. The only disappointing thing is that the REALLY lower observation area which takes you exactly near the waterfall is now closed for the public due to safety (thus that experience and photos of standing next to a curtain of rushing water was not possible). Other than that, it was simply incredible including the pleasure of hiking towards Selfoss which again offer incredible landscaping which was truly unique across Iceland!!

This is quite the impressive waterfall, and we enjoyed stopping in to see it, but from the west side all you can really see is the top of the fall. At least the day we were there, there was so much mist blowing up from the canyon that we couldn’t even see the bottom of the falls. To get to the viewing area, you need to hike over some rocky paths from the parking lot. There was obviously a lot of rain shortly before we were there, and sections of the paths were completely flooded. It wasn’t a problem for us, but something to be aware of.

Beautifull, at first no vision due to clouds, but within 5 min it cleared up. Amazing area due to snow and freezing (-20degrees)

Big and beautiful waterfall. The viewing spots are great. However, unfortunately, we were unable to go right closer due to a recent landslide occurring near the trail. Another issue is that getting to the other side takes 1 hour, which is why I took a star. Other than that, plenty of restrooms and parking, and highly recommend checking this huge waterfall out.

Your view is reliant on which side you park. We parked on the west side and the views were very limited. However, the drive to the parking lot is much shorter and easier than the east side. That being said, the east side has much better views and access up close to the waterfall. Nonetheless, a stunning waterfall no matter which side you choose.
