We really enjoyed my dinner at Deux Frères, this cozy pintxos bar tucked away in a Loftus laneway in Circular Quay, Sydney. It’s got that perfect mix of Basque vibes with Spanish and French touches – definitely something different from the usual spots around here.
We started with the croquetas, and wow, they were delicious. The duck confit ones had this amazing rich, tender inside with a super crispy outside, and the ham and cheese were just comforting and full of flavor.
Then we tried the Jamón Ibérico bocadillo – it came on this crunchy, slightly oily bread that paired perfectly with the incredible Ibérico ham. The textures and taste were spot on.
The real star was Chef Federico’s paella. It was packed with chicken, prawns, chorizo, and mussels, bursting with flavor and seasoned just right – everything came together beautifully.
For dessert, we went with the Crema Catalana – classic creamy custard with that perfect caramelized top – and the pistachio cheesecake, which had a lovely nutty depth and smooth texture (in that Basque style). Both were really nice and a great way to end things.
The service was fantastic too – Chef Federico is such a friendly, engaging guy, and the French waiters were equally warm and attentive. Overall, Deux Frères stands out in Sydney for its authentic Basque feel. I’d recommend it anytime if you’re after something unique and memorable!
