Google
Really good burgers and wraps! Vegan and meat are both great. Only two beers on tap, both very light, which isn't really my thing. The inside was pretty small, but we found seating! Overall definitely check it out, way less crowded than Fergburgers.

Google
We had blue burger and Mankiller burger both regular size and cheese garlic chips. Burger is juicey and lots of fillings. Reasonable price and a lot of variety on menu we like to come back and try. It is recommended by the local motel operator. We glad that we tried, highly recommended.

Google
I paid a fortune and waited over an hour for a burger you’d get at a football stadium for a tenner, my order was so simple, one burger and a bottle of Pepsi, I can’t blame the staff behind the counter as they were being accosted by a multitude of Indian uber eats drivers pushing phones in their faces and being impatient savages, clearly causing them to lose their composure and forget about my order.

Google
We had the Devils chicken.. so so delicious. Best burger in town Lovely owners and staffs .. Highly recommended

Google
I asked for no relish and it had relish, the meat is undercooked, and the bun was kind of dry. I’m a regular customer here, and for a while now the quality of the burgers has gone down.

Google
Ordered online for collection 30 mins in advance, arrived at collection time, and food took another 10 minutes to be ready. Chips were soggy and undercooked. Chicken burger was below average. Chicken overcooked and flavourless, smothered in overly lime flavoured avocado which overpowered the whole burger. Couldn’t eat more than half of it. Disappointing when you spend $55. Should’ve gone to Ferg.

Google
We shared a devil and it was a nice enough burger. I added bacon though and was pretty disappointed with the quarter slice I got. If you're going to charge people to add it, use a decent amount. Comfortable seating area and I didn't have to fight for a table. Quite quick service.

Google
Collin from Cheeky Kiwi Travel suggested we try this place, and we were not disappointed. The aroma outside was enticing, and the hip menu board and friendly staff inside made for a fantastic dining experience. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious, even though the restaurant was a bit busy when we visited.

Yelp
Solid burger restaurant! We didn't want to wait in the Fergburger line so ended up at Devil Burger. My burger was great, full of flavor! I forget the name but it had pineapple and bacon. I also tried a few bites of the Bleu Cheese burger with the roasted pears, it was also delicious! And as for the Curry Fries, I could have eaten them all myself! The prices were reasonable and the kids' meals were good sized compared to most. You order at the counter and find a seat inside. There's not a ton of seating but it looks like you could get it to go and sit by the lake very easily. I would eat at Devil Burger again for sure!

Melinda R.

Yelp
This is a great place for lunch. We had the bbq ribs, devils burger and garlic cheese dips. The devils burger is nice and simple. The bbq ribs reminds me of chinese bbq ribs. I didn't know that the garlic cheese ribs came with garlic aioli with grated cheese. The burger was lighter here compared to Fergburger. The line was pretty short, and we waited 10 mins for our food.

Yelp
TLDR: Average at best We ordered Two Devil burgers and a Steak burger. If you're familiar with any of the Australian chains (Grilled or Burger Urge), you'll wish you never came here. The buns are ordinary and don't present particularly well. The Steak was fatty (and not the good kind of fatty) and the chips were soggy. The Aoli sauce somehow managed to disappoint as well. I was hoping to find an alternative to Fergburger, but this definitely isn't it.

Todd A.

Yelp
I had the devil burger (add bacon!), with curry chips (add the cheese). It was really tasty, not an absolute mess of a burger that is trying to replace taste with size. My partner had the fish burger with the garlic cheese chips. Her comment was "this may be the best burger I have ever had!" Great service, friendly staff, and the oldies banging over the speakers, made it a great afternoon chill!

Eli A.

Yelp
Ordered the Hardcore Mr Scratch and the polenta fries (not in photo). We couldn't really taste the BBQ sauce but it was an excellent burger nonetheless. This place is know for its spicy burgers but let it be known it's less spicy options were very good too.

Yelp
In Queenstown there's two famous burger places, pretty much the only two I think anyone knows about. Devil Burger and Fergburger. Fergburger gets sooo much hype but honestly I liked Devil Burger as much! And the lines here are a lot smaller. Maybe people seeing a 40 minute line at Ferg just psychologically tricks them into thinking it's a superior place haha. Personally I didn't mind eating in "hell". That's my one devil pun for this review I promise lol.. The selection of burgers and sandwiches is nice, there's options for everyone. Veggie, fish, chicken, of course beef and even venison! I got a lamb cheeseburger because New Zealand is famous for their lamb and having it on a burger is just such a treat to me. No lamb sauce on it sorry Gordon Ramsay. Burger had a wonderful flavor to it, cooked perfectly. Only negative is the lettuce tries to take over the spotlight and consumes the bottom bun, like a little less woulda been fine. I personally like my onions grilled but forgot to ask them so make sure you ask because they might not ask you. Burgers can range anywhere from like $12nzd to $18 depending on what you get. With so many options to choose and a laid back atmosphere with low crowds, it's a nice place to go if you're looking for a good burger! 5 stars.

Mo J.

Yelp
If u ever chillin' thru downtown Queenstown , Be sure to grab the most original scrumptious "burgers" you will eva eat! Don't let the line intimidate you, it's a very fast mover. ps. The vegetarian options are excellent & succulent

Dan H.

Yelp
I don't get it. So there is a huge line at Fergburger, and what EVERY local says is to just go to Devil Burger. One of the locals even said they copy Ferg to get spill over traffic. Anyway, I had the venison burger and curry fries. It was okay. The meat quality is good but I don't get the oversized bun. There was too much bun to burger so enjoy the meat. My wife got a regular burger and felt better about that one. The curry fires were overly doused with curry. Way too much to the point that we got another order of fries but the regular variety. It was much better that way.

Cornelious L.

Yelp
Awesome burger! Took a while to receive but the burger was great and the fries were awesome! I had my food to go. Used the clean toilet. Clean dining area.

Rupal R.

Yelp
As suggested by locals, we tried both Fergburger and Devil burger. Devil's has amazing selection of burgers if you only go here, but if you go after fergburger, you'll be disappointed :P I'd recommend to try this if you're in a hurry (this has zero wait time), no doubt they're good, but if you have time, go to fergburger!

Stephanie U.

Yelp
Don't let people lie to you. This is Fergburgers annoying little cousin that picks its nose. Let's talk about the ketchup because that's what I hate the most. It's sweet. Like someone mixed tomato, jelly, and honey. Ruins the burger. The burger was uneventful. Like I don't hate it but I definitely didn't want to spend more than 3 dollars on it. People say it's better than fergs to be trendy. Well I've never been one for hipsters...

Alex M.

Yelp
So I tried this burger and a famous Fergburger and I can honestly say they are extremely similar. The biggest differences I noticed were the bun and the French fries (chips). I personally liked the chips at Fergburger better, however the line is always very long at the time that I want to eat so this is a great Plan B for anyone craving some New Zealand prime beef without the wait. I would also point out that the bun was far too big for the sandwich and I think the bun to meat ratio was off, so I only used half of the bun, which was plenty. Someone near me had a chicken tenderloin sandwich and that appeared to have much more meat on it. There is a nice fireplace inside, ample seating, and they even have pints of Ben and Jerry's available if you want to have a dessert after you eat!

Yubo Z.

Yelp
Amazing burgers for their price. Ribs impressed us the most. Tender, juicy, flavorful.

Leellen C.

Yelp
Service: Good... average... a 6/10... Nice but not very engaging. Food: Good. Soothed my beef craving without the 30 people long wait for the 'other' burger place in Queenstown. Location: near funky lil pubs Parking: Alright but you may have a walk if it's too busy in the strees... although there's a Wilson's car park underground. I'd go back again...

Travis B.

Yelp
Our tour guides for Canyon Swing and Whitewater rafting and biking in the wine country said don't go to Fergburger. Our AirBnb host and her son said the same...unless we were really into posting photos on Instagram. They ALL however recommended Devil Burger. And I'm glad they did. We ordered one mushroom burger because they are so stinking big we had to split it. Also an order of fries but everyone charges for ketchup here so we went without. The burger bun was soft and fluffy. It was so juicy, dripping with flavor. The other veggie burger looked just as tasty. The fries are a thicker cut but cooked just right. I like the powder black pepper to season. No wait at all at 7pm but the place was still full. Service was good. Self serve water and plenty of seating. TV with great skate and mtn Bike videos.

Barnali D.

Yelp
This place was solid! We came after being scared away by the line at Fergburger, and really enjoyed our meal. Tasty food, fast service, welcoming atmosphere, and no lines (around 3pm on a Saturday). I had the Devil's burger with cheese, which was delicious! The beef was juicy and flavorful, and aioli was excellent. The regular size was quite big, so I wouldn't recommend the large unless you have a big appetite and are truly starving! My husband and I shared an order of the curry fries, which were also delicious (and the portion was generously sized). My husband enjoyed his Mac beer, though I wasn't a big fan on the Sauvignon Blanc. The service was great - they were happy to grill onions for my husband's Devil burger, and the food came out fairly quickly. The vibe is laid back and casual. Good spot!

Gigi M.

Yelp
Better then fern. Ferns overrated. Go to devil burger!! Everything is big fat juicy and delicious

Kalani S.

Yelp
The atmosphere here at Devil Burger matches the town; youthful hip vibe with an edging under-current. The videos of extreme activities/sports play like advertisements (some are) of the options in the area. The food is good. I ordered the large Devil Burger, adding Bacon, a side of chips (aioli as my sauce choice), and the magic mushrooms. The mushrooms were the least fantastic, but nothing was wrong them. They appear to be fresh button mushrooms in a cornmeal crust/batter. Tasty, bu to order too much food and the mushrooms didn't get finished. The chips were spot on; crisp exterior and fluffy interior, served hot and fresh. The Burger was good. Not the best burger I have ever had, but if craving a solid burger in the area, this will do nicely. I was somewhat expecting some heat from the included "devil relish" and given the devil theme, but the relish was more of a sweet savory note with no mouth-tingling heat at all. All in all a great choice for lunch or dinner on a slightly less trafficked part of town. No wait at all around 1800 on a Thursday evening.

Karn N.

Yelp
Had a lot of expectation for this place after a friend's recommendation and we were keen to try something different to Ferg's Well they did deliver. However the bun was quite soft and mushy (I had the Fungi veg. burger minus the aioli). It did taste good but not as flavoursome as Fergburger. Nevertheless, the shorter wait time, quick service and a reasonable price make up for it.

Michelle H.

Yelp
Another really solid burger in Queenstown. The spot is really casual and has a good amount of seating for just hanging out with friends and chatting. If you're looking for an alternative to Fergburger, this place is DEFINITELY it. My husband and I ordered two Devil Burgers with an order of fries and onion rings... THE PORTIONS WERE HUGE. HUUUUUUGE. We both ordered the regular size and knew that we should have shared! The fries/onion rings were came in a huge bowl and definitely meant for sharing! The onion rings were probably my least favorite... The breading didn't have much flavor and the aioli didn't do much for the rings. Pros: -PORTIONS ARE HUGE -French fries... YUM! -Great staff -Great ambiance -Lots of seating Cons: -Onion rings are just meh -Ketchup is extra Tips: -The doors open and close a lot, so sit by the fire place to stay warm and comfy while you eat!

Kruthika M.

Yelp
This place is very good I really don't understand why ferg's still getting all those attention. We went to both the burger place and I liked this better. Definitely give this a try! We ate: Mushroom fries- very crisp and yummy with aioli sauce. Huge portions! Ww tried both their veggie burgers(funguy & veggie darkness) they were nice and tasty. The burgers are big and pretty filling. The ambience is good and we loved this place.

Serena W.

Yelp
We hoped devil burger would be better than Fergburger and decided we enjoyed our burgers marginally more than Ferg. The wait was about half the time. I don't get it the hype of either, perhaps burgers just aren't as good in NZ!

Neha G.

Yelp
Had veggie burgers and they were delicious. Wonder why is Ferg so popular and Devil isn't. They were really good if not better. It's hidden in one of the streets on outer side of the main Queenstown market. Must try!

Michael H.

Yelp
QUEENSTOWN BURGER TEST : FERGBURGER vs DEBIL'S BURGER DEBIL'S BURGER The place is a bit out of the centre so 5 min walk and is a place to eat in style. Fireplace and tsbles are very cozy. The burger was absolutely fantastic. Like: BURGER, nice staff, good quality Dislike: nothing :-)

Angela D.

Yelp
Devil Burger is definitely on my list of must-eat places in Queenstown! I had the Devils Staircase burger and I could just say it did not disappoint.. but why stop there? The toppings were fresh and the meat was cooked perfectly. I ordered mine with a gluten free bun, plenty of pineapple. Besides great burgers, Devil Burger is memorable because their large burgers are large.. and by that I mean HUGE. It's not just about the burger, it's about the experience. It will be the biggest and most delicious burger you'll ever eat. We also ordered Curry Chips, these turned out to be the best fries I've ever had. I'll be recommending a stop at Devil Burger to all my traveling friends.

Kelli W.

Yelp
We saw this place while driving through town and decided we would come back and eat here for dinner. Then we heard about Fergberger and decided we had to try it since it was "the best burger in the world". Well the line was stupid and we decided it wasn't that serious so we headed over to Devil Burger. There are few times in life when a chicken sandwich makes a memorable impression. This was one of them. This place had the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. The aioli and the BBQ sauce and the bacon, oh my. My hubby had Mary's Lamb burger and said it was good also but he agreed my chicken sandwich was amazing. I would definitely recommend this place, its good and you don't have to wait an hour!

Christine F.

Yelp
First, the perks: Devil Burger has a fun, funky vibe and the portions of food are huge. We got our meals quickly. That being said, I was not impressed with the burger...in fact it was pretty disappointing. I get it, I'm American and in New Zealand, maybe burgers are just served and prepared differently. That's cool. But, I think we can all agree, no matter where we are in the world, that the patty--be it beef, lamb, veggie, chicken or anything else--should be the star of the show. Not so at Devil Burger...the huge bun, large, leafy lettuce and obscene amount of sauces drown out almost any hint of meat. I tried the venison and my boyfriend got the lamb burger. Both patties were very thin and not very flavorful.

MissHelen _.

Yelp
Pretty good burger. It's a good substitute if you don't wanna wait in line for Fergburger. My boyfriend got the lamb burger and it was very tasty.

Marlyn G.

Yelp
Decent burger. Patty is quiet flat, though. Didn't realize that tomato sauce is the same as ketchup, so our fries (chips) were kind of plain.

Corinne P.

Yelp
Our family of four voted their burgers 8-9/10 so that means it's really good. Highly recommend.

Michi N.

Yelp
the burger is definitley amazing! It tasted sooo good! I went with the normal Devil burger with additionally cheese and bacon. Delicious! And you can easy eat that Burger inside, because its not overcrowded. The fries they give to you were way too many! you have to be really hungry to eat all of them. I ordered additionally a Aioli sauce for my fries, which was disapointing. The sauce had no taste at all!

Jim H.

Yelp
The french fries were great but I thought the hamburger bun was way too big for the regular size burger. They offer two size burgers, they should size the buns accordingly. The flavor of the burger was good but I have certainly tasted better.

Eric S.

Yelp
Wanted a good meal after a long day on the river. Devil Burger was recommended by a friend as an excellent meal without all the tourist trappings/crowds. Honest food at an honest price. A pleasant, welcoming atmosphere with excellent food. Avoid the trappings of Shotover street and head over to Church St., you won't be disappointed.

DC G.

Yelp
Honestly, lots of lip service about this vs. the Ferg. Both are amazing, try both if you have time. Not a huge difference in either, both are really really good. The important thing I would recommend is to get a lamb burger at either because both are out of this world.

J B.

Yelp
Tasty blue cheese burger and fries. Good reasonably priced beer. We didn't believe the lines at the other famous burger place in town would be that much better, likely overrated. Devil burger was really good with good beer.

Kyle J.

Yelp
After a long day hiking I met up with some friends at Devil Burger. It was a great end to the long trek. I tried the falafel burger and I was happy to see 2 options for vegetarian burgers.

Meng L.

Yelp
I had the large regular burger which was very tasty. The pattie was a decent size but a little tough. Over all it was most enjoyable meal.

Matthew M.

Yelp
The wraps at this place are great! My party enjoyed 3 different wraps and had them take-away. We did not try a burger, but they looked delicious. Price was fair and we didn't need to wait in a line like at Fergburger. Only suggestion is that they differentiate between guacamole and avocado. I asked for avo, but got guac instead. This wouldn't be a big deal except the guac has onions in it and I don't like raw onions. I would recommend this place to others

Kelly W.

Yelp
Seriously best burger in Queenstown. No line and fast service. Something for everyone beef, chicken, fish, venison and veggie options. Chips portion is large and stays hot thanks to plating in ceramic bowl. Devil relish is yummy! This is the place to be for a burger in Queenstown, NZ!

Nigel S.

Yelp
Lunch with my son. I assume the girl serving was new as she didn't seem to know the menu and we had to repeat our order five times before she got it correct. Service was quick, burger was very tasty but the bread was a little soggy and flat. Good value although slightly rough and ready. Would I go back? Yes, for a quick burger stop.

Adrienne L.

Yelp
Great simple burgers. Was recommended by a local for the alternative to Ferg burg for those not wanting to wait. Ferg burg was really good but this spot is just as fresh, their chips are thicker (like steak fries) which are great for the sauce chips (try their garlic aioli, really good), their curry sauce is just a typical brown curry. Edam cheese taste something inbetween cheddar and mozzarella. When I asked, the chick just said its a yellow cheese. Good spot, no frills, great burger.

Dave H.

Yelp
Saw the lines at Fergburger and wonder why as we had a very tasty burger here. Ambiance was good, tap water was easily available and the large burger was enough for my partner and I to split. We got BBQ sauce on the side for the fries and it was tasty though I've never been charged an extra amount for BBQ sauce but here it is an extra 50 cents. Same for ketchup. All in all, a very solid choice for burger and fries.

Trev Q.

Yelp
Seven of us there on Christmas eve. Enjoyed the burger and curry chips. But order was forgotten first time round so had to remind them. No table service. Music a bit loud near the big table at the back.

Matt K.

Yelp
Really tasty, fresh burger (devil burger with bacon and cheese) without the wait of Ferg. Had the curry fries which were interesting for sure - tasty but more a novelty than exceptional. Partner got the lamb burger and it was also delicious.

Jeff W.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere and shorter line than its more famous cross town rival. However I agree with some of the other reviews that the meat to bun ratio was off. Wasn't a very filling sandwich but I'm glad we tried it.

Sara V.

Yelp
Solid food and ambiance for a casual night out. Swinging through Queenstown on a quick tour in New Zealand. Very satisfied with this meal.

James G.

Yelp
I had great hopes for this burger, but alas they were not met. The appearance of the bun was my first source of disappointment--something about its colour, and texture, was just not to my taste, and it was a bit too substantial in comparison with the meat and other bits inside, so that I found I was tasting too much bread and not enough burger with each bite.

Purple Z.

Yelp
I was there many times last year. Easily the best falafel burger (Veggie darkness) I've ever had.

Angeline M.

Yelp
I wanted to try Fergburger but was told this place was as good and not as crowded. So gave it a try and it was pretty good. What made it good was the beef was tender and it came with a unique sauce.
