This Surreal National Park Has 2,000+ Natural Stone Arches, Starry Night Skies, and a Scenic 18-mile Drive

"For sleeping among the surreal sandstone, Devils Garden Campground is the park's 51-site option and the only campground inside the park proper; reservations are required from March 1 through Oct. 31 and it typically fills each night, while outside those months sites are first-come, first-served." - Stephanie Vermillion Stephanie Vermillion Stephanie Vermillion is a travel journalist and photographer covering culture and adventure for Travel + Leisure Outside, and more. Nice campground with killer views! Sites are padded and spacious! Tucked away from the busy hubs and popular arches. A bit of a drive from the busy entrance so allow more time to pitch your tent or get settled before dark. Amenities include water, BBQ grill, fire pits, pit/flush toilets. Little to no cell coverage. Dress warm for extreme cold nights. Watch out for heavy rains or snow. Some drawbacks are it’s a bit of a drive from stores & resto & lack of cell coverage.

The campground is extremely well managed – the sites are clearly marked, well spaced, and offer beautiful surroundings. Everything was very clean, from the restrooms to the campsites themselves, which is impressive given how remote the area is. You can tell the rangers and staff take pride in keeping the campground in top shape. The only real downside is the lack of electric hookups. Like most national park campgrounds, Devils Garden is rustic, which we expected, but in mid-July, temperatures stayed around 104°F (40°C) even at night. While generators are allowed during certain hours, once quiet hours kicked in, it really felt like we were in the "Devil’s Garden" – nooooo. breeze….

The campsite is beautiful and has great access to hiking trails. However, tent campers be wary. We were unable to stake our tent at our site, because there was a very shallow layer of sand upon solid rock. We tried using bags of sand to anchor our tent but it was super windy (30+ mph gusts), but that wasn’t effective. We ended up tying our tent to the picnic table and putting all our gear in our tent to keep it from flying away. Our rain fly was acting as a sail too, so we ended up taking it off, and sand whipped through the mesh. Our site was also not flat, but could have been better at other sites 🤷🏻‍♀️ There was water on site, latrine, flush toilets, and sinks. No showers or soap (only hand sanitizer), so prepare to be gritty. There was also an amphitheater in the campground with evening ranger talks that we enjoyed. Overall, we loved Arches and the campground probably would be fine as an RV, but do not recommend for tents.

This campground was absolutely amazing, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Arches National Park. If you can, stay at Juniper Basin—it was hands down the highlight of our entire road trip. The scenery, atmosphere, and overall experience made it unforgettable. Perfect spot for exploring the park and making lasting memories. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and recommend it to friends and family.

Devils Garden Campground is truly a gem—beautifully maintained, with breathtaking scenery and a peaceful atmosphere that makes you feel deeply connected to nature. The campsites are generally well-spaced, offering a great balance of privacy and panoramic views of the stunning rock formations unique to Arches National Park. Facilities were clean, well-organized, and everything felt thoughtfully laid out. It’s easily one of the best campgrounds I’ve visited in terms of location, cleanliness, and natural beauty. The only downside—and the reason I’m giving 4 instead of 5 stars—was the location of my specific campsite, which unfortunately was directly in front of a parking area. Throughout the evening and late into the night, several visitors came and went, and many kept their vehicle lights on for long periods while parking or organizing gear. This disrupted the night’s serenity and took away a bit from the otherwise magical stargazing and quiet I had hoped for. That said, everything else about the experience was top-notch. If you’re planning a trip, I highly recommend booking early to request a site away from the parking areas—you’ll be rewarded with one of the most memorable camping experiences in the desert Southwest.

Enjoyed an excellent stay in this iconic campground with our three toddlers. The sites are excellent and spacious, though not always level. The campground hosts were engaged and knowledgeable, recommending hikes from the campground that we enjoyed. The bathrooms and available water were nice perks.

The campsites are in a beautiful breathtaking location. The flush toilets were clean. My only complaint is that there is no hand soap available . They did have hand sanitizer though. There is a dishwashing sink plus drinking water available. The campsites were spaced far enough to give some privacy.

This is one of the most picturesque campsites in the country. There are multiple bathrooms and places for water. Be prepared for winds. It just takes a 3 second microburst to destroy your campsite. (We’ve experienced it more than once.) There are lots of fun hikes right around d your tent sites and endless spaces for kids to explore. Our kids absolutely love going there. Group site Canyon Wren is super sandy, Juniper Basin is a little more solid and flat.
