"An expansive desert three hours northwest of Salt Lake City, this park is a couple hundred acres in size where, as Brian Phillips notes, you can’t walk two hundred yards without stepping on a crystal. You’re pretty exposed out there, so bring water, and focus on ridge lines or other exposed spots to find the good stuff. Most of the booty here is quartz, including clear varieties as well as “smokies,” with plenty of necklace-sized pieces you can spot just walking around—and friends have dug some up that are probably 5 inches diameter and 10 inches in length." - Todd Plummer

Be warned, this is a place that attracts the riffraff. During our camp here, we were graced by neighbors who blasted their stereo and generator all through the night (literally), did target shooting into one of the roads coming into the camp (in other words, if a vehicle would have crested the hill towards the camp sites, they would have been shot), and would speed by our camp on their UTV, covering us in dust clouds. Thanks to these classy folks we ended our camping trip early just to get away from the cave people.

Amazing hidden gem out of the way. Lots of rock climbing potential for every skill level. The downside is it's not really on the way to anywhere. There are some fire rings for primitive camping too. I think the best time of year to come here would be in spring or fall. There isn't much shade except from the rocks in the morning and evening. It's pretty spread out. I think the best way to see it is to drive to a rocky area, explore it, then drive to the next rocky area, since the rocks are kind of in clumps. There aren't really any hiking trails so you would just have to set off through the desert otherwise.
