I had lunch with my friend today. We got seated in the back which was awesome because it was more spacious and private. I ordered the Spicy fried chicken Mi Goreng, iced lychee ice tea and kaya toast. I enjoyed the Mi Goreng, very tasty but the chicken was a little too salty. The portion size was massive. I think my favourite was the kaya toast! Super creamy and yummy, toast with coconut jam (best as dessert) or snacks 😍😍😍 I was happy with the service this time, last time wasn’t so pleasant however they have redeemed themselves today as last time they didn’t take my order when I was sitting by myself for lunch. I hope that this doesn’t happen again. Today the ladies was super friendly. The service was super fast and the food was super yummy ✅ This cafe is only 5 minute from Central train station.

Google
Great place if you're after Japanese fusion cafe food. It's a short walk from central station and it's not too crowded around lunch time. The truffle brunch experience is worth trying out if you love truffles but it may be too much if you tried. I recommend trying the truffle fries and the Wagyu steak with truffle if you find that the brunch experience sounds like a lot of food. The staff are very helpful and the wait times for food is really fast.

Came here for lunch midweek around midday. Wasn't too busy just yet so we were seated straight away. Ordered the pasta ragu & truffle fries. Pasta tastes very nice but slightly on the pricier side for a lunch dish considering the work/uni crowd. I have tried the salmon salad here as well on another occasion & it was amazing.

This place is extremely popular and busy for good reason. Everything was absolutely phenomenal. The backyard setting is very cute and comfortable. The service is friendly, attentive, and quick. The food was amazing. I thought they had generous portions, especially for the coffee and chai latte (picture taken after stirring). You must try the Croissant Saint - Denis and the Breakfast with Sakuma dish. Everything was cooked just right. The eel croquette with the miso mayonnaise was delicious. I thought the dishes were reasonably priced for the quality of food and compared to other breakfast places of the same level. I would have given 5 stars if it weren’t for the fact that they have a 10% surcharge on Sunday’s and don’t do split bills. I hate restaurants that take advantage of customers or make it inconvenient for them to pay.

If you love truffle, this is the cafe to be! The food was amazing and we loved everything about it. Cafe - It had a cute hip vibe about it. Atmosphere was nice, interior was interesting with a graffiti wall out at the back. Food - Amazing. They have a set truffle menu or you can pick from the A la carte menu. We chose the Truffle Wagyu Sando (wagyu was medium rare) and was perfect, Truffle Hash, Breakfast with Sakuma’s. (being a signature and definitely a popular dish that day) and the Truffle Mie Goreng which I though was super delicious and full or flavour! Overall - The price was affordable, food was definitely delicious and full of flavour and cafe was nice, clean and the environment was friendly great for different occasions.

It was my first time dining here and I was very impressed. Every dish that I tried was delicious. Love their Omurice with Ebi Katsu, Breakfast with Sakuma’s and Crab Omelette. So unique and tasty. Coffee is amazing and I also love their matcha cheesecake. Highly recommend!

Google
One of the first few places that I visit regularly since 2013 and where all the fancy brunch started. The food here constantly impressed me with their asian fusion brunch that is innovative, unique yet tasty. The brunch here has french, Japanese, Malaysian and asia fusion in it and they are one of the first few cafe that start truffle brunch menu. Love that they are bringing back all their classic OG menu back like the Dr Seuss Green Egg and ham and the mentaiko Pasta. The Little lost bread (strawberry french toast) has return back from back in the days. Food here was quite fancy and delish and I always enjoy the brunch experience here. Sadly it will close in mid Apr but luckily their Barangaroo and the North Sydney store still around.

Google
Great inventive food that is different from the normal fare. However, prices are at a premium to your standard fare though their burger is $17 and they had other dishes which were sub $20. Funky decor and good service.

Yelp
I thought I reviewed all my Sydney places but I guess not. One of those places where it is pic worthy/photogenic but kinda overprice and taste only ok. I wouldnt say the food is bad but it also didnt wow me either. It sounded a lot better than it tasted and looked. Even when I looked at the pic now, I'm like damn that looks good. I'm not saying you can get it anywhere also but in terms of taste, it's not anything that is too memorable. I got the Lobster and crab omelette. Just think of all the expensive stuff inside an omelette and that's what it was lol. I wouldnt say it's terrible though, just not that memorable.

Yelp
We came here due to the good reviews on zomato and we def think this place is wayyy overrated! We ordered the most frequently mentioned salmon dish on zomato - the salmon was well cooked but oily and didn't go well with the seasoning on the top. The dish came with a poach egg and mayo? which didn't make sense at all cuz u have nothing to dip in with at all. The squid ink pasta tasted ok but both dishes were overpriced ($25) for brunch. The presentation of their dishes were kinda creactive which explained why there were a number of instagrammers there... We went there on a hot day and somehow the AC was not on... There were flies everywhere... The food came up fairly quick but after I said the food was just okay our server simply ignored me...

Yelp
I found the recommendation for this cute cafe on a Pinterest post and it did not disappoint. My brother and I enjoyed a quaint breakfast with BIG flavor on one of our mornings in Sydney. I had a beautiful rendition of avocados, tomatoes, goat cheese, and balsamic vinegar that was paired with sourdough bread (can't remember the name of the dish, but I'll post a pic). I ordered poached eggs as a side to create a meal I will probably dream about. It was amazingly satisfying. My brother had the French toast that was recommended in the article I saw and he had no complaints either. We are in town for a few more days and I may find my way back to have another dish before our departure. It was that good.

Yelp
Adventurous brunchers will relish this menu. A meeting of Pan-Asian and Modern Australian foods. Its boundary pushing (miso salmon with eel croquette) and consequently, rich. I prefer a lighter start to the morning, but I have plenty of time for the designer salads and the always pleasant service. Everyone here is really lovely and hardworking. The front part of the cafe is light and airy, but out back it gets all army surplus with khaki mesh, wire fence and garage iron. If you're counting calories, dodge the front counter - if you can! The Devon Magic Muffins are reeeediculous. Chocolate and banana with crumbly crystallised-sugar top and a heavy lashing of Nutella oozing from the middle. Mondayitis? Getting one of these in your gob, will be a potent distraction.

Yelp
This cafe offers lots of instagram worthy food that fails to live up to its hype. The quality in ingredients was blatantly lacking, perhaps because the focus is purely on presentation. This is sorely disappointing given the high cost of the dishes. For example, they couldn't even properly execute the simplest dish - scrambled eggs on toast. The eggs were a pale yellow and had a odd taste that was part rancid, part creamy and salty. The coffee was also mediocre. It cost 43 dollars for two dishes and two coffees which would be fine if the food was good, however this felt like highway robbery. With so many breakfast/brunch options in Sydney it's shocking how this place is recommended as one of the top cafes.

Elizabeth A.

Yelp
Great service and delicious, fresh food. I ordered the seafood omelet with a croissant.

Yelp
Devon Cafe is one of those flashy and snazzy instagram loving places that get the crowds but is it any more than just a flash in the pan! The cafe is short walk from central station and if you are coming here on a weekend be prepared to wait for up to an hour to get in and make sure your phone is charged too cause everyone else in line will be snapping pics of their food. It's basically part of the whole experience. They offer a range of snacks and foods for take away with the star of the take out option undoubtedly the MAGIC MUFFIN. In my opinion it's the best muffin I have ever had. They do it in a number of flavours but the best one is the Chocolate one. It contains a banana and chocolate flavour full experience. The chocolate is no other than nuttella. Its got a real banana on the top so it looks very magic indeed. Ok wow didn't think could just talk about a muffin for so long but it is that FRECKIN GOOD. I ordered off the menu fish cakes which was King salmon fish cake, lime mayo, watercress, cabbage, & herb salad, poached egg all presented on a plate so elegantly. The salmon tasted super fresh and was a joy to eat. The other tables beside us had some funky menu options like the french toast which comes presented with fairy floss because it can. This place has it all going on certainly from its funky graffiti courtyard to its wonderful menu options and friendly staff. A place I will definitely bring someone who likes their food tasty and impressive on the eye.

Yelp
I was intrigued by the pictures I saw on Instagram but I was quite confused when I arrived at the cafe. I envisioned it to be larger and brighter. Instead, it's a very ordinary cafe I walked pass a few times last time I was in Sydney. I didn't find the menu enticing either. I know they look good in pictures but after reading repeatedly what actually goes into the dish, I wasn't so sure. In the end, I ended up with a latte and a ham and cheese croissant - my safest bet. The guy next to me who ordered one of the more "interesting" dished left half of his food unfinished. I guess the H&C croissant wasn't a bad idea afterall. It's a cozy little cafe, good to chillax on a weekend but I wouldn't come here on purpose for the food.

Yelp
The truffle thing was absolutely a rip-off of $30. I trusted recommendations from your staff and it turned to be "Ultimately" salty and pricy! I felt extremely thirsty and uncomfortable in the whole afternoon. I just felt I had been fooled. I am wondering if their business owner really tasted their so called "special" before rolling out. So irresponsible for your customers! And, they have holiday surcharge. Speechless!

Joann Y.

Yelp
Cute brunch place close to the station! I came here with a friend early in the morning and there was no queue! We got the eggs blini and the cookies n cream. Both were so lovely and had amazing flavors. The presentation for the dishes were beautiful as well. The eggs blini is essentially smoked salmon with poached eggs and some veggies on a pancake. The veggies were a first for me since it felt like a cross between broccoli and asparagus. It was also interesting since I would have never thought of combining pancakes and eggs benedict. The dish was so delicious but too rich for one person. It would have been really nice if my friend and I had shared. The cookies n cream was gorgeous and not too sweet. It was like a cookie creme sandwich, which was quite enjoyable since the flavors merry so well with each other. Super lovely with a coffee on the side to balance the sweetness. I had a really great experience here and would come again. The cafe itself was small and the interior design was charming. The service was spectacular as well. I loved it!

Yelp
I almost accidentally ordered a $63 breakfast here. Seriously. It was one of the menu specials. Thankfully the waitress asked me if I was aware of the price before I went on an epic YOLO brunch spending spree. It did sound pretty delicious though, something having to do with fancy baked eggs and truffles imported from Italy. Anyway, after that I decided upon a slightly more affordable breakfast. The miso cured grilled salmon served with smoked eel croquette, egg and salad. Was really lovely, and would definitely pick it again. I guess it's one of the more popular menu items. I also tried a Coke Chino (thanks Ben for the Yelp tip) which is a crazy combination of Expresso, Coke and Chai. I thought it tasted sweet like Coke, and has more of a coffee after taste. I liked trying it, but not sure I would order it again. We sat in the front of the cafe, but they do also have a lovely garden area out the back. It was busy but not packed mid-day on a Sunday. Not sure what wait times are usually like here.

Yelp
Truly enjoyed my experience at Devon. I was looking for something adventurous and man I got it. Their grain bowl had so many different things going on--kale, quinoa, all these veggies and two very well soft boiled eggs. My wife had the exact opposite--a simple meal of eggs and toast. The portion was great and they were deliciously cooked; though I can could see why some people think they might be undercooked. I personally loved them. Left a little room at the end for their banana Nutella magic muffin--good thing I did; very delicious.

Amy V.

Yelp
This place is da bomb! The reviews from people was spot on. Totally impressed with the setup and interior of the place when you walk in. There was a healthy line of people waiting to get a seat on a Sunday but hey, that's to be expected where there's great food. We had a fantastic waitress who was super friendly who came around regularly to make sure we were doing ok. Thumbs up for the service on a very busy Sunday. My friend ordered sparkling iced cascara tea which was very refreshing and she asked the barista to come talk to us when we asked a few questions about the tea (this was a first, never had a barista explain about the tea they've made!). I had a very well made soy flat white. The Dr Seuss green eggs and ham was a sight to behold. I've never seen anything look so green in my life and I trust my friend's opinion that it was nice. The ham looked like pork belly but it wasn't. Tasty though! What made the dining experience was the cronuts which Devon is famous for. We had the black sesame and passionfruit one and I must say the black sesame was my favourite. It oozed out from the pastry which was super crackly and just sweet enough without being overpowering.

Yelp
It was a coincident that I would go Devon on Danks or Devon by night . But I was so happy with the service and food they offered. I have also had some amazing sake that wasn't on the menu and so smooth and went so well with the dishes . Overall I will come back here again more suitable to romantic date nights and priced reasonably .

Yelp
Devon have consistently amazing food. If it wasn't for the coffee being consistently mediocre this cafe would have five stars and be one of the best cafés in Sydney if not Australia. The menu here changes with the seasons and will never disappoint. The ambience is cozy and definitely a must try in sydney. The staff are welcoming and very helpful. only once did the hipster barista give me attitude when he made a flat flat white when we asked for a latte. They don't lose points for the hipster with attitude because hipsters with attitude will be degenerates no matter where they are; work, school or at home.

Yelp
Devon Cafe finally has a bigger place to spread its wings. I was expecting even a higher standard now compared to the Central station branch for some reason. Not knowing this area, the walk from Redfern station was quite pleasant. The main landmark nearby is the Hillsong across from it. Inside, it is very spacious and comfortable, there is an improvement in the service, I suspect because all the tables are in sight compared to the segregated "rooms" of Devon Cafe. SOFT SHELL CRAB ROLL ALA JAPANOIS $18 (Crispy soft shell crab with shichimi pepper, wasabi mayo, tobiko, nori, pickled cucumber, daikon, carrot, shiso) The fried soft shell crab was cooked perfectly with a slight kick of pepper. The wasabi mayo did not have enough of a kick for me, would not have noticed it without reading it the menu. I tried to eat it with my hands but it was not practical as the crab kept falling out. Knife and fork is the way to go. Disappointed with the presentation. Somewhat, one of the more mediocre dishes at Devon. DR SEUSS'S GREEN EGG AND HAM $19 (Thick cut bacon, crispy potato, 63 degree egg, green tomato ketchup, pea puree, soybeans, pea tendrils, jus) Pea and ham is such a classic combination, visually, the colours are vibrant and just pop out. Shame for the presentation again as a little more care with the pea puree would have made it perfect (to be picky). The ham is full of deep smoky ham flavour, I really enjoyed it with the all the other combinations on the plate. The crispy potato is indeed very crispy and brought a crunch to the dish. A dish that I would order again. DANKS-IN-DONUTS $7 These mini donuts are mouth-size and filled to the brim with individual flavouring. A mixture of asian flavours such as matcha green tea or milo and classic raspberry were available. I was not too impressed by them and would not order them again. Nice flavours but I would have preferred made-to-order fried doughnuts with the sauce :) for that price. CRONUTS $6.50 These are officially the most expensive cronuts or cronnies as it is referred to here. Are they worth it? yes, just because they are square! not but really as a late entrant, Devon did not just make a mediocre replica. I feel that they have tasted every cronut in town and taken note of which qualities to include. The texture of these cronnies is similar to Adriano Zumbo's Zonut, the construction is very similar as well with more emphasis on the filling rather than overloading the top which in my opinion makes the pastry too soggy and thus looses its crunchy texture (i.e. some of the Brewnuts). The Milo-chocolate was very good filled with a light ganache of chocolate and milo. The one to remember is the pork floss and mayo cronut which is based on the popular pork floss bun found in Asian bakeries. Is it sweet or savoury? 70% savoury - 30% sweet, 100% yummy. It is definitely an experience. I do not quite know what is the filling, but it's yummy. Conclusion The soft shell crab roll was below the standard that we are use to at Devon. This was still is very good breakfast however to be ultra-picky there were some areas of improvement like cleanliness of tables and inconsistent presentation. The Pork Floss and Mayo Cronut is enough of a reason to come here. @thesydneynoob

Yelp
Alright, so Surry Hills already has its fair share of fantastic quality cuisine, so it's a bit unfair that another really great cafe is opening there. But the lower end of Devonshire Street hasn't always had great cafes, so in this sense Devon is a very welcome addition. At Devon they obviously pay a LOT of attention to quality produce. We're talking proper chefs here, not your usual sandwich makers. Their chefs used to work at Guillaume (Sydney and Melbourne). Their offerings are flavoursome, rich, and a delightful mix of "modern Australian", Italian, Spanish, French, south-east Asian, etc. They have things like wagyu pastas, crab meat pastas, sandwiches work pork belly, duck confit, baked eggs, cured salmon, banana+nutella muffins, black rice pudding, coconut jam. They use bread from Victoire (which I still think is the best bakery in Sydney), and coffee from Five Senses / Coffee Alchemy. There's a small edible garden out in the back. The interior fit-out has a fresh, effortless feel to it. Designed by Matt Woods (he did the fit-out at Bloodwood), the design is simple, utilitarian, and clean, with sanded wooden benches and stools and tabletops, looking out onto Devonshire street. Only downside, it's a little pricy. Gotta say it. You pay for the quality. Don't come here if you've only got a tenner in your pocket, it won't go too far. OJ is $7. Lunchtime meals between $11 and $25.

Yelp
While vacationing in Sydney, I was recommended by family to check out this brunch spot. I didn't realize it was kind of out of the way from the city center but it's alright, cause it was worth trying. The brunch here was delicious and same goes with their drink menu (teas, affogato). This is a pretty popular spot. The entire place was packed and a line had formed outside as well. Service was great too! I would definitely come back.

Cancan H.

Yelp
BEST BRUNCH I HAVE EVER HAD! The creativity of Australian style is too good, no history, no tradition, but new mix of texture and flavours. I ordered the Salmon (forgot the name), it was a little mix of western grilled salmon and deep-fried Japanese rice ball with the dry seaweed pieces on top, dipped with mayo, absolutely fantastic.

Howard C.

Yelp
Decided to come back here to try their dinner menu and I have to say I vastly prefer their dinner menu to their breakfast/lunch menu. Why? At least I can justify the prices you pay for dinner with the food you get...you might actually spend less money for dinner here than you would on lunch. The place doesn't get too packed at night, at least on a Wednesday and we got seated pretty easily. We ordered the Pork Buns Hakka Style, KJI (Kim Jong Il, no relation) Fried Chicken Wings, steamed veggies and the Wagyu Striploin. The Pork Buns were AWESOME...definitely could down 4 of these and not eat anything else. The KJI wings weren't anything special, they just reminded me of Wicked Wings from KFC with gochujang and 3x the price. The Wagyu Striploin was tender and delicious...highly recommend. Service was just OK, not bad but not amazing. Their soft serve machine broke down which was a shame. All in all, Dinner is better than Lunch here for me.

Suryo H.

Yelp
Great all day breakfast menu. I had the french toast with strawberry ice cream, my wife had the bruschetta, and my boy got the raspberry (i think) cronut. The cronut was square too btw. Anywhoo the portion was a good size. They had some Japanese fusion dishes on the menu but i preferred the Aussie brunch menu. We came for brunch and it took a while to get a table. We sat in the corner near the kitchen and saw the chef and his team cooked which was awesome. The coffee was good too. We had a cafe latte. I want to try the soft swirl ice cream next time!

Peter C.

Yelp
Visit any Asian country and you'll discover there are few rules when it comes to breakfast. We eat all things, at all times. Fermented sausages on sticks, bowls of noodles with pork blood, rice rolls stuffed with fried cruller. There are no rules other than that it be fast, cheap and delicious. Put a quintessentially Asian no-holds barred concept and the classic Aussie brekkie menu into a blender, and what do you get? Well, some genre-bending treats, with a healthy dose of "Yeah right, there's no way you'll get your food in 30 seconds, but here's some very good coffee to keep you awake as you wait. And that will be triple the price, please." Execution's a cinch for the ex-Guillaume chefs toiling in the kitchen. Tried and true dishes like the citrus-cured salmon ($17.5) with fennel, apple and split dill cream have flavors that just work. And the tops on the banana and nutella muffin ($4.5) have a craggly surface that would make Elaine Benes proud. TOP OF THE MUFFIN TO YOU! Except the dollop of Nutella; that is ALL MINE. Too bad not everything on the menu is thought all the way through. The Breakfast with the Sakumas ($23) sounds terrific on paper (how can you go wrong with miso-marinated salmon and a 63' egg?), and while its components are mighty tasty, it's not a cohesive dish. The egg is soft and runny, but there's no carb (other than the smoked eel croquette?) to absorb the yolky goodness. The fish is flaky and flavorful, but it's unclear if you're supposed to pair it with something (the kewpie mayo?? uh, okay) or eat it by its salty self, which is one sure fire way of making you thirsty for water. Simon, the head barista, takes his coffee very seriously. The beans for the milk-based espresso beverages are from Coffee Alchemy, my favorite roaster in town. While the gulf between what I got here on my first few visits and what I could consistently get at Coffee Alchemy was (and is) noticeable, the difference on my last visit was much smaller, with Simon making tweaks that have steadily narrowed the gap. They also feature boutique roasters each month, too, and have cold drip and Chemex options. It's a fine program in progress, for sure. What you WILL get here that you won't get in any Asian cafe is top notch service, and an invitation to dwell. The ambiance alone is worth the extra $.

Elliott W.

Yelp
I realllllllllly don't get what the hype is about this place- the service was terrible, food overpriced and only so-so in my opinion. The server got our coffee order wrong three times, so as a result our food came before our coffee (personal pet peeve of mine). They also were rude about getting our order wrong....even though we double checked the order with them when we initially ordered. My friends opted for one of their signature dishes- breakfast with the sakuma's. At $25, probably one of the priciest breakfast dishes I've seen in Sydney, and the review was that "it wasn't worth the price- overcooked salmon that lacked flavor with an egg." As they don't have any stock standard breakfast items (also annoying, give me my big breakfast, yo!) I decided to order a side of bacon and a side of eggs. The menu clearly states that the egg side is "two eggs plus chips" but when mine came out it was one egg. Again, the server was extremely rude and rolled her eyes about getting me another egg....still no chips, but at that point I was just hungry and wanting to eat. This place needs to get off its freaking high horse and maybe think about good service- I guess when you're a supposed "hot" spot you can let it slip.

Adeline T.

Yelp
As a hipster of sorts, I am naturally drawn to hyped up places in the walkabout guides. It is a cute little space, with equally small tables that can makes things a bit cramped. We had the eggs blini, french toast with a side of bacon and roasted tomatoes; and cold brew and peanut butter milkshake to drink. If you want a brunch related food coma then get the french toast with bacon (you get 4 rashers). The bacon helps balance the chocolate syrup. The blini were average, and would have been preferable either without the pancake or a thinner more crepe pancake. The cold brew was forgettable, but the milkshake delicious but served in a tiny little bottle. I would go again as the pictures of food on instagram is rather seductive.

Yelp
We hear all the hype about this little unpretentious cafe in Surry Hills and decided to check it out ourselves. We arrived early but the place was 90% occupied with keen diners. There is an nice cozy backyard to enjoy your meal. We ordered the limited edition Summer Sakuma ($25) which is the Miso Salmon and the Fig Salad of the Day($12) The meal was delicious and tasty. The salmon was cooked so well that it melts in your mouth. The serving is quite substantial. We enjoyed the meal very much. Slightly pricey for Surry Hills... not a place to go everyday. But am keen to try their other seasonal creations. http://gmv-gotmyvote.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/dining-devon-cafe-surry-hills.html

Yelp
Whilst I'm still heartbroken that Dank Street Depot is gone (along with it's amazing chicken sandwich) I'm happy that I finally had a chance to visit Devon on Danks (which opened up in it's place). I already knew that the coffees here were great thanks to a cheeky takeaway one weekend, so I immediately ordered my usual Large Skim Cap and was immensely pleased when it arrived. I ordered the "Dr Seuss's Green Eggs & Ham" ($19) which comes with thick cut bacon, crispy potato, 63 degree egg, green tomato ketchup, pea puree, soybeans, pea tendrils and jus. The plate arrives and I've never seen a breakfast dish quite like it. The term "thick-cut" is almost an understatement when looking at the bacon (check out the photo), people would tend to think this is pork belly - but man was that tasty!. The table lacked any salt for seasoning... and I found out why.. the meals don't need it. Not in a bad way, but in a way that I can't fathom a reason for you needing it. I wasn't a huge fan of the 63 degree egg, it was cooked perfectly, but I think having it served on a plate, with cool green sauce meant that it was not as hot (temperature-wise) as I prefer. The cripsy potato was pretty epic. It's like a hash brown/rosti but in a thick crispy finger... I ended up cutting it all up, stirring it all together to get a complete mixture of egg, bacon and potato (with sauce). Sure it probably looked a bit gross, but hey, if you spend time constructing each individual bite with each component... you should try it. The missus had the "Breakfast with the Sakuma's" ($24.50) which is a miso grilled king salmon, smoked eel croquette, 63 degree egg, radish petit salad & kewpi mayonnaise. I managed to get a taste and it was really quite good if you were thinking of a salmon option for brunch, and the eel croquette was good and the eel flavour was quite subtle (I actually didn't place it until I read the menu again). Next time I come I want to have the "Little Lost Bread" ($16.50) which is their version of french toast. I was debating ordering it, because I love a good french toast when the mood strikes me, and one look at the table next to me made me instantly jealous. Next time... ...they also do some funky cronuts, with cool flavours. We'll be back.

Yelp
I was very expected to try its brunch and it turns out very delicious food but their service is poor

Yelp
this place has the best French toast!!! Everything looks amazing on the menu! We got French toast and green egg and ham, our food was very decorative and came quickly! The service here was also really good too. Would come back for sure!

Yelp
76 Devonshire St, Surry Hills NSW 2010 (02) 9211 8777 The Devon Cafe, really has some outstanding food. For a weekday lunchtime it was pretty packed. Mainly full of uni-students and young professionals. We ordered: Breakfast with the Sakuma's - miso grilled king salmon, smoked eel croquette, 63 degree egg, radish petit salad & kewpi mayonnaise ($24.5) Bruschetta - roasted eggplant, hummus, labne, za'atar, coriander, fried onion on Turkish bread ($11) The breakfast with Sakuma has no faults. Beautifully cooked, melt in your mouth salmon, the eel croquette is perfect - creamy mash potato with a crunchy coating, and the smokey flavour really comes through. The yolk of the 63 degree egg just oozeys out and becomes a sauce that combines all the elements on the plate so well together along with the spices which resembles dukkha. The Bruschetta is so full-flavoured. I loved the eggplant and hummus combination, the chickpeas are fried and have a crunchy, light, hollow texture. Along with the hazelnuts and fried onion, it make every mouthful moreish and worth going in for another bite. The brownie at the end was a very was a lovely guesture. Basically there was a trainee wait-staffer who meant well, but obviously kept getting a lot of things not-quite-right...on more than just a couple of occasions and overcharged us at the end. So with the refund for the overcharged amount, came a brownie in a small brown paper bag :) Food: 8.5/10 Value for money: 7.5/10 Ambience: 7.5/10 Service: 7.5/10 Overall Score: 31/40 $-$$

Yelp
My low rating may be due to the overrated hype about this cafe but I honestly did not find anything to be 'hyped' up about. I ordered the eggs blini and the presentation was very pretty. The taste? Well overall it was okay. The first bite was nice but as I kept eating it, I got sick of it. The pancake at the bottom was too thick, I couldn't finish it in the end. Would I go again? Maybe. Would I order thr eggs blini? No. Was it worth? Eh.

Yelp
The place is near Central station. I was queuing for 10 mins for table of 3. Good service and very friendly. Lamb sandwiches, ogre burger and royal sausage was perfect for our Sunday brunch! I will try the cronuts next time, it looks so good! Definitely we'll be back soon!

Yelp
Another great brunch spot! Try and get there early to avoid waiting long for a table. The staff were very friendly and the food was great. Also loved the fresh juices.

Yelp
Was ok. Not much variety on the menu. Went here at 12pm, my friends both had brioche French toast, yummy but a sugar overload. I had crab pasta, which was about the only lunch menu item. Was nice but not worth $28. Waiter was a bit clueless, telling me I couldn't have the pasta as it wasn't 12pm yet (it was 12.30pm). Would go back when they get their act together and have more to choose from on the menu.

Yelp
Popped my head In and not what I expected. I didn't see a case of cronuts waiting for me to devour. Didn't look well kept. Every dish coming out looked Asian and not like the brunch stop I was expected.

Yelp
Mm mm yummy! I was pleasantly surprised as I've often walked past this place and just did not expect such great vibes and flavours from this place! Crazy expensive for the portions though and ok it was not so delicious that I would be rushing back to eat here again.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing treats! The cafe is a trendy, cool environment where you don't feel cramped or as though you're sitting on top of others. Highly recommend for a catch up with friends or a colleagues.

Yelp
This is actually really good. I mean the food is good! My friend and i ordered a king salmon and an ox tongue. Both dishes are absolutely phenomenal. However, the only thing i dont really like is that the breakfast menu ends at 11.30, so like seriously i should get up early to try the breakfast menu.

Yelp
I am giving this place five stars for hygiene & food safety. The Food Authority of NSW awarded them 5 out of 5, on 02/12/2014 as part of their scores on doors scheme. (Full list available on the City of Sydney website.)

Yelp
Perfect poached eggs and good filling portions. Ordered the eggs blini and loved every bite. However they didn't replace our empty water jug and we got the feeling of being hurried as they cleared our plates super promptly after we were done. No cronuts on weekdays.

Yelp
Gave NYC brunches a run for their money!!! Definitely get one of their juices while you're there.

Yelp
The food and coffee are great. The staff are cheerful. The manager, ouch! In front of us rudely told a waiter off for not being able to carry three coffees at once. There wasn't even three coffees on our order...? Not to mention their meticulous charging for extras; a $1 for hot water, no refils on the tea, $2 for butter! Give me a break, plenty of other amazing and grateful cafes in the area to choose from. Regarding the surrounding tables; on the left of us - disappointed, left their money on the table and walked before even receiving the check. and to the right - sent back half their order... why only half? because the kitchen forgot to send the other half. hahaha. 5/5 - for an entertaining breakfast

Yelp
This restaurant gets a 2 starts mainly because of the quality of the food. The service was good, the restaurant is located in a great spot and the ambiance is good. I get the idea of wanting to use crab as the main ingredient of their dishes, however, the crab used is almost minimal and the presentation is very average. I had the pasta with crab ($28 overpriced) which sounded lovely but it was very soggy and with not much crab. The good news is that there is a wonderful French patisserie which is absolutely delightful and makes up for the crapy meal. Have your dessert there you won't regret it.

Yelp
Overpriced and overrated. We had the eggs blini and the naked bruschetta and we're unable to finish any of our meals. Strange mix of flavours didn't work and the plates were far too sparse. Service was good but very slow, there was a 15 minute wait and it was certainly not worth it. Coffee was average at best, would not recommend unless you're white and looking for your "exotic" meal of the week. Mindless and boring.

Yelp
Good consistent coffee, not the best coffee in surry hills, but friendly staff and a quick service. Food is a little expensive.

Yelp
Poor service, small serves, clueless about the customer experience. No sense of value for the customer. Very unimpressed.

Yelp
I've previously been a little dumbfounded by the raving reviews and the ridiculous queues out the front of Devon Cafe (in Surry Hills). It just didn't measure up to the hype. However, I was keen to give them another shot and was therefore quite pleased to hear about their new venue in Waterloo - Devon on Danks. The location, the interior, the ambiance, the staff - all top notch. But it really comes down to the food and coffee for me. And I must say I was very pleasantly surprised. The soft shell crab burger was delicious. In my personal opinion, I thought the nori was a little odd, but it did lend a unique aspect to the sandwich which you certainly wouldn't find anywhere else. The soft shell crab was not generous (you won't get the portion of crab you see at Bowery Lane!), but what was there was tasty and crispy and the fish roe added that additional flavour that again, differentiated it from any other soft shell crab sandwich. Also tried the spanner crab pasta, which was pretty good too. Handmade pasta, cooked to perfection. A beautiful garlicky sauce with a slight kick to it. The portion was fairly decent as well. Lastly, the coffee. Oh the coffee. I've found that despite the high quality of coffee in the Surry Hills / Waterloo / Alexandria area, there are very few who get it spot on (like seriously spot on). John Smith is one of them, Single Origins used to be). Devon on Danks has now been added to the ranks (in my opinion). They do a fabulous piccolo - kudos to the two baristas who churn out consistently excellent coffee each time (I've been a handful of times just in the last week!). Highly recommend you pay them a visit. And if you do, don't forget to try some of their baked goods. The donut balls are amazing - especially the milo and the raspberry!.

Yelp
the food was good at the Devon cafe, but the service was average. However, I enjoyed my visit and the atmosphere was nice for a cafe.
