First time here with my son and husband after despicable 4 movie 🍿 and we really enjoyed the ice cream 🍨 bomb flavors and the way they served you it’s really good. Malted strawberry 🍓 so delicious 🤤 , they sale candy’s Candy 🍬 shirt and coffee mugs too for present 🎁 or whatever you want, teddies Really great place to come with your family and enjoy an ice cream or drink , i recommend it if you love sweet 🍨🍬📍

My friend brought me to this location. Drove from Los Angeles to Bakersfield and just had to stop at this historic location. I was not disappointed and was pleased to experience a cold ice cream soda on a hot, hot day.

It was a very cute little ice cream shop. We got the banana split. It was amazing, and they gave a lot of ice cream. Definitely will be going back when we drive through again.

We went to the downtown location, this is the original location I remember coming to as a child. They've updated the seating area to make it larger. The ice cream is still delicious and service is still great. They need to bring back the cherry nut flavor!!

A disappearing tradition, small local establishment which has been serving locals for over 100 years. This place rocks, and we must visit everytime we pass through Bakersfield. Great candy, always the same as you remember it. Highly recommended, and take a pound or two home!

Dewar's candies is a Bakersfield institution beloved worldwide. No joke. Their taffy chews are enjoyed by just about everyone. Their soda fountain offerings, unfortunately, must be experienced in town, but, dang! They are worth the visit.

Let me say, there is no other place like Dewar’s. It’s a classic and Bakersfield gem. It keeps ingredients simple but once put together for a sundae you get fireworks in your mouth. I’ve lived in three larger major cities and the ice cream in these locations does not compare.

Dewars Candy is a staple and we always have to stop in when we are in town. This was my first time to this particular location and to be honest it wasn't my favorite but that's because it's so much smaller than the one we usually go to. My husband said this is the one he used to go to as a child and it's the original so for him there was a lot of nostalgia tied to this location . Best part is that they have all the same ice cream flavors with all its yummy goodness! The service was great and it was my first time sitting at the ice cream bar being able to watch them create our orders! Not as many candy flavors in their candy shop but all in all good enough!

I have been ordering peanut chews for several years now and they are delicious !!!! But just as important is their customer service. Whenever I email them about a delivery they get back to me in a very speedy and polite manner. I live out of the area so I generally order via their website. My first purchase in store was extremely pleasant & I enjoyed the experience. I needed boxes of candy for prizes for baby shower games and the woman working showed me all the options, gave me a free sample, and popped a few of extra tiny hard candies in my bag to share with my office. The decor and packaging was really pretty and I am glad I went in person!

So this a cute little shop in Bakersfield that sell the best taffy. Every time we go it's a treat. This visit was to meet my son and daughter-in-law half way from their home. Service is always pleasant and the gift shop area is adorable. My son and daughter-in-law had shakes that looked really good. They give you a lot. If you're in Bakersfield don't hesitate to stop by you wont be disappointed.

Our weekly dessert sugar craving. Date night with my hubby is the best. We always split a strawberry special with marshmallow topping and crushed walnuts on top.

This place is an absolute gem; we love the ambiance from the moment you walk in. I wasn't around in the 1940s and 1950s but this place feels nostalgic. Wonderful decor, and a great representation of what many of these places were like for our parents and grandparents. The food is ice cream, candy, and shakes. You cannot go wrong with any of their selections our kids loved this place and is must if you are in the Bakersfield area. The service was excellent, and great at providing recommendations based on your own sweet tooth preferences. This place is worth patronizing as they are relics of the past with service, quality, and ambiance that is much needed today. In the days of automated services everywhere; it's great to know you can still enjoy a good old fashioned ice cream cone!

Can't go wrong with Dewar's on a hot day. Came at the right time and had plenty of seats to choose from at the counter. Watched the ladies prepare malts, scoops, sundaes and shakes right before us. Dewar's always give off that family-friendly vibe whenever you walk in. We kept it simple by sticking with a scoop each: me and my coffee and my daughter with her strawberry and chocolate sauce. Ice cream was creamy and just as I remember it to be. Other families were there taking their kids for a treat on the last day of summer break before school starts.

What a gem in the middle of this city. Walking through that door was like entering into a new place - a place I always saw in the movies. It was so fun * friendly staff * wide variety of menu * cool atmosphere * variety of snacks from the past * fun seats My two kids absolutely loved being in here! The staff were so friendly and so patient as my kids tried so many different flavors before choosing what they wanted!!! The staff even put gummy worms on my child's sundae to make it extra fun!! Loved it here and defintiely will come back the next time we are in town

Perfect place for dessert at this family run ice cream parlor in Bakersfield. There are 3 of them. We went to the original one on Eye Street. It's been around since 1909. I ordered the two scoop maple walnut with all the trimmings. It was huge. There is parking lot, and easy street parking. Today was a beautiful day, but we arrived early, and there was counter space and a small table available. Glad we found this gem.

Dewars is like stepping back in time. As soon as you walk in you see the bar with bright pink stools reminiscent of a a scene from the movie grease. As you walk in you grab a number and wait for it to be called. Upon hearing it you place your order and it's rad that one person makes your groups entire order! The part I truly enjoyed was as they were working on other people's treats they would answer questions about what they were making so you could see before hand! The welcome was of staff even when the place was packed was awesome!!

First time here and we absolutely loved it!!! It has an antique vibe. My dad had the strawberry milkshake and they gave the us extra!! (Amazing customer service). My younger brother got a banana split with walnuts... and it was to die for! We split it and we still had extra. They put marshmallow on top.. and it just melts in your mouth, three big scoops of ice cream. There was a worker with bright orange hair and she was very nice. Along with a girl with glasses, both very lovely workers.

This place was so cute! It was super nostalgic like you stepped back into a 1950's soda fountain/ice cream shop. Complete with checkered floor tile and a bar with cute twirly pink chairs where you have a seat and these sweet ice cream hops make you old fashioned sundaes, shakes and banana splits in glass serving dishes. The service was great and yes as mentioned in the reviews they give you water as soon as you sit down. Our ice cream bar tender was Stephanie and she was sweet and she let us try the vanilla ice milk vs ice cream to see which we preferred. My hubs loves these old school ice cream places, whereas I usually prefer new places that offer some sort of different flavors or experience but this place was so old school retro that nobody else makes them like this and therefore qualifies as being different as well, in a classic way that is missing from regular ice cream shops. My hubs got the traditional banana split which was probably easily splittable between the 3 of us but he is greedy and doesn't like to share. My daughter got the red and white shake, also probably made for sharing but nope, not this girl, she takes after her dad. She really loved the marshmallow cream on it but def couldn't finish it. I got a small sundae with Vanilla ice milk (gelato?) and Orange sherbet topped with pineapple and rainbow sprinkles. Also shareable but wasn't. It was really good and my choice was pretty good and I highly recommend this flavor concoction. Small is very large and a child's size probably would've been good but I wanted the 2 different flavors. Ok maybe I am also a greedy non sharer?!? Fun place for the family on a Saturday after a long day at the race tracks. I see why this place is such a Bakersfield gem on all of the Yelp reviews.

\Over priced first of all. We ordered brownie Sunday. Wow! What it's not even- fresh its hard as a ROCK ouch..Ice cream was melted . Quality was not worth it... We LEARNED today never cheat on Rosemary's.... never will we go back.

I live in LA and when my family traveling and passing through Bakersfield this is a must stop for us. Our favorite ice cream shop. Service is great all around ambiance is wonderful.

The sign said to seat myself so I did. Waited for 30min and nobody took my order. I moved inside and sat at the bar but the workers were just talking amongst themselves and ignoring me. It wasn't even very busy. I kept trying to get their attention but they kept avoiding eye contact. I ended up just leaving after waiting for so long for nothing.

I love dewars ice cream. They have many options to choose from. Service is always prompt and friendly. Very nice ambiance it makes you feel you went back in time. The servings are pretty big almost for 2 people depending what you get.

The ice cream here is delicious. The servers are friendly. The place has an old diner fee to it. Definitely a staple of Bakersfield.

If your in, or traveling through Bakersfield, Dewar's has 3 locations to serve you. I recently visited all 3. This is Dewar's oldest location. This location has an old school soda fountain with counter and booth seating. Dewar's sells handmade ice cream (also packed in to go containers), floats, sundaes and other ice cream treats. Dewar's also makes hand made candy, along with their famous chews aka Taffy. Available in Peanut Butter, Peppermint, Tiger (Orange), Caramel and more. Also, they sell 2 sugar free chews (Peppermint and Peanut Butter). The staff here is always really welcoming and friendly. The quality here is excellent, and the prices are fair for the type of place that Dewar's is. Support family owned, local businesses.

The dude and I came to Dewar's Candy Shop on 05/07/22 as of course I was in the mood for sweet treat plus Dewar is one of my favorite ice cream shops ever. It was actually pretty busy when we arrived. We were informed it would be a 20 minute wait and they gave us a menu. I was in the mood for something light and simple which was their sundae which I got Cookie Dough with fudge and almonds no whipped cream. The dude ended up getting a Reese milkshake. We were handed a pager which was a short wait and our order was up. The servings are so huge but I was a champ and finished it. The ice cream is so light and delicious not too sweet and addictive for sure. They also serve food as well along with sweet treat and had a whole candy shop. The place is pretty cute , clean and organized. Probably one of the best ice creams in Central California in my opinion. We were very satisfied with our visited and cannot wait to come back and try more flavors and options. Overall, I highly recommend this ice cream shop absolutely delicious, light, flavor packed and you can't go wrong here! We will be coming back especially if we are in the area for sure!

The new express Dewars at Heath and Stockdale Hwy is so fun and just like the other Dewars in quality. Wish the sides weren't so expensive. However let's always hope we get what we pay for. :)

Ice Cream and Candy Heaven. I have ridden past Dewar's many times, and I have thought to myself, " one day I will try it." I sure wish I had sooner. They have the best Ice Cream I think I have ever eaten. But, Dewar's is not only Ice Cream. They also have candy, clothes, dishes and much more. Dewar's seems like an old fashioned malt shop. A place where you go to enjoy yourself and have fun with family and friends. When you get a chance go, have fun, eat ice cream and candy. Buy a shirt or a cup. Talk to the servers, they were all very friendly. Enjoy your time there. For us older folk, remember the good ol days. For the youngsters, learn what we old people had. Either way, IT IS GREAT!

This place takes me back to my childhood, So many memories at this location. Still have the same water cups back in the days. Almost everything the same , few updates but honesty looks the same when I was a kid. Customer Service is on point . Once you walk in your greeted right away. Order the Sundae 2 scoops vanilla an strawberry ice cream , hot fudge no nuts . OMG the strawberry ice cream is so smooth an delicious. I haven't had strawberry ice cream like that in a long time . With prices gone up everywhere , their prices were cheap for a sundae. I highly recommend this location, especially if you been here when you were young . Great memories.

Came here for the peanut butter chews, which I love, ended up falling madly in love with the pistachio chews. Omg, they are soooo good, like pistachio butter wrapped in yummy taffy. If you loved abba zabba as a kid, come here for the grown up gourmet version.

Great service delicious ice-cream but they need to work on employee sanitation. I found hair in my food and it looks like strawberry blonde. I have black hair ‍ just saying. They should wear hair nets or something if hair is going into peoples ice cream

Well, I've lived in Bakersfield since July 5, 1978. Raised three boys here. Many, many trips to Dewars. That's what, 46 years? Recently we had an out of town visitor, and she and the GF went to Dewars. They thought it would be nice to bring me a tee shirt. It was too small, I said, "No problem, I need to pick up chocolates, I'll just exchange it." Little did I know . . . Walked in, explained my situation, and was interrogated as to whether I had the receipt. If the price tag was still attached. I said I don't know, why don't you look? Well, there was no price tag attached. I said, "That's OK, I'll just buy another shirt." So, done deal, shirt, 3# of chocolates and $158 later deal done. Not how it worked out. As I was leaving, the "manager" came storming out of the back and started shrieking at me as if I was some sort of scammer. Trying to pull a "fast one". I bought another shirt and 3# of chocolates. Seems simple enough. Never again.

Not sure why my checkin and review did not post... I visited this place the other day with my son and we really enjoyed our treats. I love the nostalgic vibe of the place. I had the black and tan, which was a sundae with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge, and a second scoop of fudge brownie ice cream with caramel fudge. My son enjoyed a malt with birthday cake and fudge brownie ice cream. The shop has other options... So I plan on heading over periodically. They had a lot of options in terms of candy, however, I noticed that some of them were quite hard, so I'm guessing they're not too fresh. I will try one later and provide an update.

It's a Bakersfield staple for a reason. The ice cream is hands down the best there is! Now this place is not big by any means. The parking lot is very limited and seating inside is also limited. So keep that in mind if you're coming during those busy hours or on a warm day when everyone has the same idea. But the wait is well worth it. They have so many ice creams to choose from. Even some sugar free options. Also, don't forget to try those famous Chews! Trust me when I say you will not just eat one.

Arrived here after a Dinner that wasnt so great and this experience lightened up our night! Strawberry shake was amazing!!! Service was great!! And the overall place was great!

If you are wanting local homemade ice cream come check out Dewar's at all of their locations. Another classic gem here in Bakersfield. The service is top tier whether if it's busy or not. I would recommend trying the George's special with cookies n cream.

Really cute old school ice cream shoppe. I was with a group of 3 friends and unfortunately I'm bigger than they are so I was pretty uncomfortable on the counter stools--I didn't really fit without spreading my legs pretty widely, and eventually my butt fell asleep and I just stood the rest of the time. Our server was 5 star quality--very knowledgeable about the menu and had great recommendations based on our personal preferences and what we were in the mood for. I got the child's size sundae of peanut butter fudge ice cream and hot fudge topping. The ice cream texture was a bit grainy because of the peanuts and it wasn't as fudgey as I would've liked. The hot fudge topping was more just like chocolate syrup and not hot fudge, but it was still good. Even the child's size was plenty big and I didn't finish the whole thing because I was full. I'd like to come back and maybe try something different on the menu (and sit at a table!).

OMG! If you are driving up or down, Highway 99 to Bakersfield and want to stop for a treat, this is the place. I believe there are 3 locations. During Girl Scout Cookie season they offer in-house made ice cream with the cookies blended in. Just enjoyed Lemon Flake with Lemonades. Delicious!

Dewars is nostalgia for many students who went to BHS and any Bakersfield local! Classic old fashion ice cream shop with wonderful menu choice, candy, merch and more! Don't skip this place, be sure to stop in!!

We didn't have any candy here, because all the scrumptious ice cream we ate left no room for candy. Any flavor is yummy, but I chose the lemon cake, and chocolate mudslide. Best of both worlds! Employees were quick to get our order, and the place is so cute and cozy.

You definitely have to get you a couple of pounds of this homemade taffy OMG!!!! Pistachio and peanut butter was my most outstanding flavors. Best service very clean and delicious with a great taste % ++++++++ quality,flavor & taste. Lots of other things you can try too. The taffy had me hooked 1000 %

We recently passed by this candy shop in Fresno. Picked up an assortment of taffies. The peanut butter one is the best one in my opinion. If you are in the area, try it out.

Always good! We have to hit here every time we're in town. It's an unspoken rule. Actually it's a very spoken rule! Everything is good! The banana split is over-the-top huge! And must be shared! Or you can try to tackle it on your own. Hot tip: you can take half gallons of ice cream home in an insulated envelope and it will last two hours. It's only an hour to Santa Clarita, so we took the risk and it really paid off. Too bad we only brought home 2 1/2 gallons. Now we have to bring home chews and ice cream! The things you have to do when you go to your hometown! Glad that my son likes it as much as I do!

Was recommended to this place by a coworker. We're in Newport Beach and I told her I had to go to Bakersfield. She asked me to bring her back some candy from Dewars. I remember thinking this place must be really good if she is asking for it...from Bakersfield...to take back to Newport! Well, it was and it is. We got ice cream here and it was so good that we took home a couple pints! Generous servings and reasonably priced. We will definitely be back here. Only complaint is that the bar seating seems to be for children only. It was pretty tight. Overall though, really delicious and cute ambiance.

I have been going to Dewars for over 50 years, and it has consistently been my favorite. Love their candy, especially the peppermint chews, but their ice cream is what I most look forward to. The vanilla ice milk tastes like the homemade ice cream my grandmother used to make and I love it in a strawberry ice cream soda. So glad that this place is just like I remember it!
