Today, around 11:00 PM PST, I visited the DFS at Terminal B (Chanel Beauty area) to purchase some Christmas gifts for my family. An Asian lady wearing a red shirt initially assisted me, but after some time she pulled out a list of flights and told me that my flight was not on the list, so I was not allowed to make any purchases. She explained that the rules had recently changed and that all purchases now must be delivered directly to the gate.
While I understand that policies can change, I wish this information had been communicated earlier, rather than after I had already spent a significant amount of time shopping. Additionally, she told me that I would need to pay taxes if I wanted to take the products with me, which was very confusing, as this is a duty-free store. Overall, I feel this situation could have been handled and communicated much better.
After this, I went to the DFS sunglasses store (near Moncler, Burberry, etc.) and explained the situation to a staff member named Jasmine (she was wearing glasses and a mask, and I believe her hair was slightly dyed). Jasmine was incredibly kind and helpful. She took me back to the beauty store, asked me to gather the items I wanted, and met me near Kiehl’s. She took the time to explain the situation more clearly and offered to speak with the manager to see if there was anything that could be done.
Jasmine went above and beyond by speaking with the manager and finding someone to assist me with checkout. I’m not sure whether these purchases involve commissions, but regardless, her level of service far exceeded expectations. Instead of simply saying “you can’t buy” or “you have to pay taxes,” she genuinely tried to find a solution and ensure I had a positive experience.
This is the kind of customer service that leaves a lasting impression. Jasmine’s professionalism, empathy, and willingness to help truly reflect the experience DFS should strive to provide. If Jasmine’s manager sees this message, I hope her efforts and outstanding service are recognized and appreciated.
