Outstanding beef kebabs, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The fries were made to perfection, and the homemade tzatziki was excellent. A very precise and well-executed meal. Their recipe has been kept for years, and there’s a good reason for that. Sometimes a menu doesn’t need to be big, it needs to be focused and accurate, and this place is a perfect example. The service was warm and super kind, and there’s no doubt I’ll be coming back. Worth the money, worth a visit, and highly recommended 100%. Thank you Diagonios 🙏🏼

After walking about the ruins such as the Palace of Galerius in the vicinity for a little while, we returned to Diagonios after 12:30pm and we were given a choice to sit outdoors or indoors. As the weather was good outside, we chose outdoors. That was an excellent move because by the time we left, all the outdoor seats were taken up. This time, we ordered the meatballs (Soutzoukakia – 8.5), the gyros (200g pork – 8.5), cucumber/tomato salad (5 euro) and a local Thessaloniki wine (4.5). We must say a big thank you to the SKAI crew who introduced us to Diagonios because the meatballs were the best we’ve had in a very long time! When the dish arrived at the table, it was first the smokey fragrant aroma that attracted us and when we got in for the first bite, it was juicy and flavoured with a good mix of spices. We loved it! Just one thing to note though, they’re not really shaped as “balls” but more like a fat sausage. So while we were expecting “meatballs”, more of a “meat sausage” greeted us. historic Thessaloniki restaurant in the heart of the city, serving some of the best meat since 1977. Excellent quality, warm atmosphere, great lighting, fast service, and very fair prices overall. A true five-star experience.

We wanted to have lunch at Diagonios 1977, which is close to the White Tower. Since there’s no visible sign, it was a bit difficult to find. The initial welcome was nice, and we sat inside. Food service was fast, and they offered complimentary desserts which were delicious. We tried liver and meatballs — both were tasty, and we really enjoyed them. The only issue was with the bill: we had to wait more than 15 minutes, as it kept being passed from one staff member to another. That was a bit frustrating.

Great options if you want Greek dishes that are meat based. The gyros was very tasty and perfectly grilled. The eggplant and tzatziki dips were also very tasty. The restaurant also has a very nice, heated outdoor area.

A very lean restaurant we found in the center of Thessaloniki. The service starts at 12:30 and there is a line as soon as it opens. If you go early on weekends there will be less line. Excellent meatballs and large portions. Order 2 plates of meatballs for 4 people
