8 Best Hotels in Martinique for a Local Stay - AFAR

"The island’s oldest hotel, originally opened in June 1945 and recently renovated, with a rich cultural history of hosting notable local writers and lively lobster dinners and garden parties featuring live music and dancing. Situated on the island’s longest beach with views of Diamond Rock, the property offers studios and beach bungalows with ocean or garden views, a leafy pool setting, a restaurant serving bistronomic Creole cuisine, and two bars stocked with Martinique rums—celebrating decades of hospitality with a refreshed look." - Dana Givens

I would not class this hotel as a four star establishment; I would say 3 star at the very most. The lovely foyeur and reception area are deceiving. Reception staff are excellent: very friendly and efficient and the room was clean and pleasant enough. However, I am relieved that we weren't staying in one of the basement rooms, which look dark and depressing. We ate in the hotel restaurant on our first evening, which was expensive, but very average. The table service was slow and below par. There is no bar area to enjoy a drink. Breakfast was a shambles; disinterested and unfriendly staff; no warm welcome. No tables laid for guests in the morning; we had to ask staff for serviettes and cutlery etc. Coffee was terrible. We weren't informed that cooked eggs were available and only realised they were when we saw another guest eating fried eggs! There is no longer a beach attached to the hotel, due to storm Beryl, but most of the view of the seafront was blocked by a series of bungalows built at the back of the hotel. For a cost of around 200 euro per room per night I would expect a much higher standard. Disappointing.

We had a warm welcome by the young lady in the reception, but was assigned a room in the basement where we had to go through the laundry machines and a lot of stuff in the hallway. The room was placed so that everyone that walked by could see in and we did not feel safe to leave things in our fridge outside since anyone could walk in. There were bugs and mosquitoes in the room and the water in the shower flooded the bathroom.|We asked if it was possible to get another room, but this was not possible on the first night. The next afternoon we got to switch to a room on the first floor that was facing the pool. This room was much better, but yet the kitchen sink was blocked so the water could not go out. There was a huge difference in the service mindset between the two woman manning the reception.|The hotel is located next to the ocean, but unfortunately the hotel villas block the view from both the pool and the restaurant. Also the fence facing the ocean has collapsed and looks quite rough.|In conclusion this hotel does not feel like a four star establishment and has seen better days.

Charming and relaxing small hotel: we spent ten days at the Diamant les Bains are enjoyed every aspect of our stay. Friendly and supportive staff (it helps to speak some French). Wonderfully maintained gardens and pool (we swim laps and the pool was not one of those small ornamental things). Superb continental breakfast -- fresh fruits and lovely French baking -- served on the patio. Hotel is walking distance to nearby restaurants and is across the street from a boulangerie (need I say more?) Beach on Diamant bay is not Copacabana -- volcanic sand, narrow margin and often rough seas, therefore not terribly good for swimming, but great for contemplative walks and grand vistas of the towering Morne. There is nothing glitzy about this hotel just constant friendly service and a therapeutic atmosphere.

This should be a one-star hotel. I have never been in a 4 star hotel and found bugs and mosquitos in the room. In fact, we found a crab 🦀 in our room. They gave us a room in the basement. The humidity was super high once I got out of the elevator. When I spoke with the receipt, she said crabs are not mean 😏. She gave us mosquito killer and a broom to help myself.

Very nice, smaller hotel. At a quiet end of the beach in Le Diamant and direct access to beach. Hotel seems quite new, rooms are nice and bed good. Restaurant good, both for lunch and breakfast (including made-2-order egg dishes). Pool nice. One small nit-pick (just to find one) is that there is no real view of ocean from pool due to cabanas between pool and beach.

We were so pleased with our stay here. The welcome was great and they were very friendly and spoke great English. |There was free parking for the rental car at the back|The internet was great. |There was a great coin laundry down the street about 500 m|The beach cottage was great for a family with a double sofa bed. |There is a small supermarket right next door|

Great new hotel directly at the sea, nice staff, amazing garden and very clean and comfy room! There is a pool area, which is perfectly maintained.
