It has taken months to recover enough to write this. My family and I went for a Christmas holiday meal & honestly if it wasn't the only place open I would have walked out mid-meal. I just watched Kitchen Nightmares and it came to mind- I never wrote a review! Well, here it is, because I guarantee the place is exactly the same. It would be PERFECT for Kitchen Nightmares- but I still wouldn't go back!
After sitting for a long time, we got menus from a rude, dismissive server and had to wait even longer to make a drink order. About 15 minutes later we started to order and when I ordered the turkey holiday meal (I called 2 hours earlier to ask what the specials were, I couldn't wait because I was at a hotel and had no real food!). We were THEN told they were out of that special (would have been nice to know when she dropped the menus). Instead i ordered a med. rare t-bone steak dinner special which included veggies, mashed potatoes, soup or a pile of mostly iceberg lettuce and no dressing after asking twice salad, and a dessert. Everyone else ordered either the same or a burger & fries.
We finally got the soups/salads/apps (a JOKE) while I wondered why the service was so slow when the restaurant was only about 1/4th full. I got my answer as we started hearing yelling and swearing by employees to each other (nice around my child) from near and in the kitchen about 25 feet away. Our dishes sat- and sat, as we heard more and more screaming. Finally someone who claimed to be the owner rushed in from outside and started yelling at employees, from what we heard she was called at home because of the fighting and apparently overwhelming 8 tables for the mass amount of staff there. As we looked around we noticed other customers looking just as frustrated and bewildered as we were.
We waited and waited, I tried to find things for my child to do. I heard from the kitchen, "who's extremely well-done steaks are these?!" I stopped the owner and said, "I hope those aren't our steaks, because we ordered them med. rare." She said, "oh, no not you." About 1 1/2 HOURS after we got there, our food arrived and guess what? A dry as sand, extremely well-done (like the server saw!) steak which when I lifted it up was black on the bottom. Veggies were pale and overcooked/watery, mashed potatoes had gelatinous gravy I asked to NOT have, and EVERYONE'S meals were literally well-done yet cold, and disgusting, I swear- how can the ENTIRE table's food be so grossly messed up?! I literally looked around for cameras for a few seconds.
Everyone was uncomfortable because of the awful quality of the food and the screaming, but I found the nerve to go up to the owner and say two things, one that we would like the screaming and swearing to stop and two, that our meals were mostly not what we ordered and steaks were INDEED burned like I'd asked her to check on.
The result? We were upgraded to "super-duper" desserts- that's right the dessert that was free. When I mentioned that, I was told it was a better and bigger dessert than the free one. When I pointed out the lack of logic in it, we were given an EXTRA one. Wow.
Between the oblivious and screaming filthy-mouthed servers and cooks, dirty bathroom, painfully slow service for no apparent reason, owner who pretended to care and did NOTHING, the embarrassingly HORRIBLE low-quality food I would not feed my dog cooked simply "BURNED" but sat in a window long enough to be cold, the BS "comp" for our bad experience & a complete waste of $80 I paid for the family, I swear on my life (which it may be next time, this time I just had the runs for 24 hours after) I will NEVER visit this wannabe greasy spoon (it wishes) hole EVER again. TRUST ME, you will feel violated!
I would not have put even one star if it weren't required. This place owes ME a star for having sat through the experience.
