This is one of those places you call an authentic hole in the wall. I mean that in the best way possible, because we all know that hole in the wall restaurants make the best meals! It's not a fancy place but there food hits the mark every time!! I believe they are looking for workers, it looks like it's just the two of them right now and this place gets busy. So be patient and you will not regret it.

Google
Disappointed Experience at Dick's Fish and Chips I rarely leave bad reviews, but my experience at Dick's Fish and Chips was really underwhelming. The service was slow and inattentive — we waited far too long just to get acknowledged, and the staff seemed uninterested. The food options were extremely limited, especially for a place that claims to specialize in fish and chips. They were out of half the items on the menu. What we did manage to order was poorly presented and lacked flavor — soggy fries, overcooked fish, and no attention to detail. Overall, it felt like they’ve stopped caring about quality. Definitely not worth the visit, and I won’t be going back.

Living in Calgary, I'm deprived of great seafood, especially great fish and chips (one of my all time favourite foods) So when I booked my trip to the Island, getting the best seafood fish and chips was my TOP priority. This place did not disappoint!! I got the two piece cod and fried scallops, and I was in HEAVEN. You can tell their fish and shellfish are fresh as can be, and the crisp on the batters is absolutely perfect. It brought me back to my trip to UK I took as a teenager, and I'd honestly put these fish and chips up against the best chippy in the UK! The service is also extremely friendly. You feel more like you've been invited into someone's home for a nice home cooked meal rather than a restaurant! If you're coming to the Island, even if you're mainly visiting Victoria, Tofino, or Nanaimo, I would strongly recommend going out of your way to take the trip up to Campbell River to grab a meal here! Delicious!

Google
Fish and chips were very good! The service is fast and friendly. They gave me a lot of fries in the order which was nice. The location of the place is also super nice

Google
I always liked Dicks the food was good but the service was terrible.Haven't been back in a long time. I went in one afternoon with my two sisters and we all wanted to order the halibut fish and chips. The woman who was managing the restaurant said she couldn't serve us the halibut as she was saving it for the dinner crowd and could we come back then. Well absolutely not. What kind of restaurant asks their customers to come back later because they do not want to serve what we wanted to order for later. It wasn't as though whey were out of halibut ? ???

Google
Good quality fish and chips in large portions. Options for salmon or halibut as well. Unpretentious and presented in newsprint cones with holes in the table to support them. Great addition to our late autumn visit to Campbell River.

Google
The batter on the cod was lovely and the fish tasted very fresh. Service was phenomenal and the staff was lovely.

Google
So so good! Best fish and chips on the island! Staff is friendly and goes above and beyond!

Yelp
Went for the gluten-free fish and chips. Crispy coating and a lot of French fries from a dedicated fryer. Comes with tarter sauce and a 1/4 cup coleslaw. This is a greasy joint right across from the public wharf. Parking is across a busy road. Owner is friendly. Mostly a to-go place, about 5 tables. No reservations. Canned Budweiser and Lucky beer, canned Growers Cider. Selection of canned pop. Order at counter.

Yelp
This place is a treasure! If you want "fine dining" go somewhere else but you will be missing out! This has a relaxed "old fashioned diner" atmosphere and the best fish and chips we have had in a LONG time! Comes in a cone like real fish and chips too! Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
Food is always delicious! It's my favorite fish & chips spot. Servers are so kind and generous every time!

Michelle K.

Yelp
Food was great with long lineups. But worth it. Looked like family run business. Great to support local business!

Yelp
All of the things I read said that we have to try this place! It's delicious food but I wish the fish was a little thicker and batter thinner. I guess cutting costs! It's expensive, tourists prices, old and beat up inside, kind of dirty, worn out furnishings. The service was great tho, very nice people for sure. I would maybe take it to go and eat at the park across the street :)

Yelp
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a cloud of large black flies. Fries were dry and stale. Fish seemed soggy. I kept thinking about the flies the entire meal and couldn't finish my lunch.

Lyn F.

Yelp
Fish and chips were great but the place needs a deep clean. Not a pleasant place to sit and eat.

Rob B.

Yelp
Dicks is very good. Fresh ingredients and hot food. The halibut is truly fantastic and the cod is great too. Fries are fresh, hot, made from real potatoes. Everything I have tried has filled me up then some, portions are huge. Service is incredibly good with friendly caring people. Only thing stopping this from being a 5 is the hours seem inconsistent and unfortunately they run out of halibut. Will return again and again.

Yelp
Best fish and chips I've had in Canada since I moved here from the UK, 20 years ago. I am confident when I say I am a reasonably experienced and decent judge of good FC and most I've had in this fair land has been pretty terrible, much like poutine might be in London, I would imagine. They were in a hurry when we were there and they quite obviously undercooked the chips, but they weren't terrible. The fish was very good, as was the batter. However, perhaps a lick of paint, a bit of elbow grease with some cleaning products and a refresher course in basic civility for the lady on the desk? Kind of felt like I would imagine it might when asking for food in the cafeteria of a maximum security prison.

Yelp
No complaints here. Great food. Large portions and really tasty. The fried oysters were my favourite. Would defiantly recommend.

Nadya B.

Yelp
Crispy, GBD (golden brown and delicious) fish, fries that are crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, proper coleslaw. . . Yes, please! We couldn't decide between the cod and halibut. Allyssa accommodated our indecision with a piece of each! My husband couldn't resist a trio of cod, halibut and salmon! Only 'ding' is the tartar sauce: not enough of it and a bit bland. Spritz your fish and chips with malt vinegar for more traditional zing. And order the deep fried apple pie with Island Farms vanilla ice cream, even if you don't have room! The holes in the tables, by the way are to hold the giant cones of fried goodness. Wash the meal down with a Growers cider (pear or peach, I prefer pear) and you'll leave happy! Reasonable prices, parking across the street, view of the harbor and the strait. Absolutely awesome!!

Yelp
Great location right on the main ocean drive. They had 3 choices for fish (cod, haddock and salmon) they were out of halibut. The fish was nicely breaded and cooked perfectly. The yam fries and onion rings were also good and not greasy. Very popular at lunch so get there a bit early if you can.

Yelp
If you're looking for a place to eat fish and chips overlooking the water this is your spot. Seriously authentic fish and chips served in a paper cone. Our orders were for two pieces of fish and chips, but we had at least four pieces and sometimes five in our cones. Hot and freshly fried mall vinegar on the table was perfect for our needs. Nothing fancy here come in place your order and have a seat. Five minutes later pick up your food and bring it to the table and Yum Yum Yum

Yelp
This place was the Bomb! The Halibut was amazing and I have grown up eating fish in the Pacific Northwest my entire life. Huge servings. I didn't care for the coleslaw but my friend liked it. A don't miss! This is no joke for the HALIBUT!!

Yelp
Great little escape from inclimate weather while waiting for the ferry or water taxi. No frills... they have awesome fries, and great fish, served in proper non printed newspaper and with really groovy "aesthetically pleasant in their utilitarianism" tables with holes in them for your chip cone to sit in. Condiments aplenty, and random family pictures of the staff shaving their heads for charity and doing general local do goodery. great place, great food and great people. I sound lame, but its true. GREAT outside seating too.

Tracy R.

Yelp
Food was delicious and hot. If you wanted to take it home, the soup would still be piping hot. It was flavourful and full of clams and veggies. Calamari was well seasoned and the batter was crispy.
google avatar

Molly V.

Yelp
Fantastic gluten free fish and chips! I eat here whenever I'm in town and am never disappointed. The staff is amazing, very helpful. My family also enjoyed the regular fish and chips.
google avatar

Vanessa L.

Yelp
Yummy fish and chips! It's not overly greasy and there isn't half an inch of batter to get through before reaching the fish! My coworker got the deep fried oysters and fries, and the portion was huge!! It looked like the equivalent of an 8 piece fish and chips meal or something crazy like that. The coleslaw was a little bland, but I don't go for fish and chips to eat coleslaw, so who cares!
google avatar

Steve H.

Yelp
5 stars for the fish. Pretty damn good but loss of 2 stars for the chips. Soggy and limp. If you are going for be a fish AND chip place both need to be top notch. We ordered the halibut. It was fresh and cooked well. Batter light and crispy. Fish Juicy. Service friendly. Work on the chips.

Yelp
This was probably our worst dining experience in Campbell River. I dont know why they have 4 stars. We ordered seafood chowder and the two piece fish and chips. First had a bite of the slaw and pushed it aside. The cod chips were soggy and bland at best. Fries completely tasteless and we brought home the soup so we can try to fix it so that we can actually eat something. The entire meal had absolutely no redeeming qualities. By far the worst food I have eaten in a while. I left Dicks seafood still hungry because it was inedible. We will not be coming back. Very simply Dicks Seafood is not worth paying for.

Yelp
My family in Campbell River told me that if I wanted fish and chips then this is the place I should go. Thank you family! I had the oyster burger and it was simply perfect. The oysters were massive, fresh, and fried in a delicious batter to perfection. The rest of the burger wasn't anything special but man-o-man were those oysters exactly what I was looking for. The fries are also exactly what you expect at a fish and chips place. Perfect composition for holding up cider vinegar and pepper, and dipping into tartar sauce. Those who had the cod and halibut were very happy as well. The service is friendly and accommodating. A gentleman (Dick?) relocated people and put together tables so our group of seven could sit together. The lady behind the counter had a wry humorous attitude.

Yelp
First time for us at Dicks. Thought we"d try this bit of local colour after reading the reviews by locals. After an interminable wait standing in line to have our order taken (there was only 1 person taking orders and she kept abandoning the till to do other things, leaving customers standing and waiting for her to return). After ordering our cod and halibut meals and our 2 beers, we made our way across the filthy floor and sat at a sticky table. Normally I don't mind if a place is a little dingy if the food and service is good. So far the service wasn't. The noise level from the island highway combined with the music playing and people almost shouting to be heard made our conversation impossible. Our meals arrived about 15 min later in a quaint paper cone glistening with grease. On a positive note the fish and the fries were large potions and the batter was quite thin. My wife's halibut was overcooked but my cod was fine. The fries were another story. Both helpings were soggy and under cooked. The small flavourless potion of coleslaw really needed a vinagery dressing to cut the grease from the fish and chips. The beer was our only salvation. Is it possible to feel your arteries hardening? Now for the other bad news, the tab. A 2pc cod dinner, 1pc halibut and 2 small draft beer set us back $37. We could have eaten good sushi for that price and our arteries would have thanked us for it. There's better fish and chips in Courtenay at Jo Klassen's and the restaurant is clean and quiet. Will I return to Dick's? Only at gunpoint.

Yelp
There are very few places I can safely eat at, as a celiac diner. Dick's Fish & Chips is one of them!! Dedicated fryer, and excellent knowledge of cross contamination prevention. Not only do I feel safe eating, the food is damn incredible!! Loyal customer for life!! Staff is amazingly friendly

Kari B.

Yelp
mmm the food was good! me and my hubbie went here a year and a half ago i loved it! hope to come again!
google avatar

Colleen H.

Yelp
The food here is abysmal. Everything was devoid of seasoning: the coleslaw was insipid and bland, the fries were flaccid and flavourless and the tartar sauce, nothing more than cheap mayonnaise. This place is unrecognizable from the Dick's I used to rave about for fish and chips.

Lisa R.

Yelp
We ordered take out and the fish was fantastic! Unfortunately it was a bit cold but that is only because we had to take it out due to Covid. Not the restaurants fault at all! :)

Yelp
Best. Gluten Free. Fish and Chips east of Iceland! Fantastic light GF batter, and excellent chips to go with. The cod was thick, flakey....the stuff that gluten free dreams are made of. If you're GF, you've gotta try this fish. We tried it because good GF fish isn't easy to find, and now that we know how good it is, we'll eat there at least once each day we're in Campbell River. Amazingly good!!

Yelp
Had excellent service with a smile, large portions, very fresh and hot, what more do you want with fish and chips!? Cook came past table a couple of times to check on everything. Very happy to recommend this place for fish and chips! Couldn't eat all the fries. Had both battered and unbattered fish, both excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
Tell me it ain't so. Have been a looooong time visitor and patron, loving the great fish and chips. Arrived back in C R with wife and I headed right to Dicks. Wow, what a disappointment. Almost everything came out drenched in oil. Fish batter, fries ( potato and yam). Am hoping this was just the Sunday replacement chef filling in ( on Aug 16th) and not a reduced attention to quality. Dick, please please find out what happened? Will come back and try again.

Yelp
Great location by the water! Food was great! We had halibut and cod fish-n-chips! Cooked to perfection - very crispy and golden! The cod was a bit better than the halibut but just my preference I guess. Had lunch on their floating dock and petted their huge golden retriever who was hanging out for the day. Great place to stop on our way from Parksville to Telegraph Cove - about half way in between. Definitely recommend for lunch!

Yelp
If I am taking anyone to Campbell River for the first Time this is a must stop! This is some of the best Fish and chips you will have anywhere.Ok I have to confess that I have a real weakness for F&C.How can you beat the fact that the fish is fresh locally caught The same day.Situated on a floating dock watch the cruise ships and boats in discovery passage. This little hidden gem is a must on anyone's to do list for CR.
google avatar

Ed K.

Yelp
You can't beat this place on a sunny summers day. A floating restaurant that has great fish & chips, nice. Sometimes I don't feel like heavy greasy fish and chips and they do a great grilled fish too, much lighter. Their Oysters are another great option and they come fried or grilled as well but hard to beat the fried version. They also serve beer & wine which goes well with sitting in the sun. Really nice people and a great dog will always leave you with a smile.

Yelp
Dick's has become my new favourite restaurant in Campbell River. Everything from the halibut to cod to salmon to prawns to clams tasted fresh. Yes, they have deep fried salmon too. It's good. If it's a hot, sunny day in Campbell then don't hesitate to try Dick's.
google avatar

M H.

Yelp
Excellent salmon and chips :) Fresh and tasty and very large portions, could only finish half of my 2 piece meal.
google avatar

Warren L.

Yelp
This is a great place for fine sea food. We always go there at lease two times when we camp near by. The halibut, cod, and oysters are really good. The service is always good and the staff are friendly. I really like the chips and the portions are generous. No one goes away hungry. Parking across the road is handy.
google avatar

Anh H.

Yelp
Had halibut fish and chips which were done to perfection, nice and moist with a light non greasy batter. The oyster and fries had big juicy oysters but the batter I thought was a bit thick. We also substitued onion rings were light and crispy, and seafood chowder. Do expect a long line up on good day.
google avatar

Dawn M.

Yelp
Only the best fish and chips I've ever had!! I especially love their salmon, and their fries are homemade and taste great! Great quality food!!

Alex R.

Yelp
In my family, you're not allowed to pass through Campbell River without going to get some dick sauce!
google avatar

Josh N.

Yelp
Delicious and filling meal. The cone wrapping is a nice touch! Halibut was firm and juicy, and fries not too salty. They have local pride, and a detailed map of vancouver island on the wall.
google avatar

Cypher D.

Yelp
My nanny and papa went there and they were very rude and the Prices where to high and it was very hard to park cause it had bad parking and the food was very slow.

Joycelyn A.

Yelp
Good food and a cute eatery with the wood frames to put your cone paper of fish n chips thru. It's a 4 because the parking is across the street.

Alex L.

Yelp
This is my first review and I'm only taking the time to write it to warn people about how horrible the food is at dicks fish and chips. Soggy fish and tasteless fries are just a start, the coleslaw they prepare for you is actually inedible and for me to say that the clam chowder is bland would actually be complementary. I haven't had food this bad ever before. If the food was half the price I still wouldn't go back. Do yourselves a huge favor and eat anywhere else.
google avatar

Dean G.

Yelp
This review is tough for me to write, having looked forward every year to visit Dick's at least once. Sadly, the service has sunk to a fairly low level. Sometimes having an intimate look at the kitchen is great for a customer - other times not so much. Despite three people apparently working, it took several minutes for anyone to notice us standing at the window, despite only two other customers already eating and several eye-contacts from a worker with no action. The food was still pretty good (I miss the newspaper!), but it took a LONG time. I understand cooked to order, and I prefer it, but when employees are seemingly wandering around, talking on cell phones and taking smoke breaks while you are waiting for your food, it's not a great eating experience.
google avatar

Emilee A.

Yelp
Got the cod fish and chips, it was delicious! Honestly some of the best fish and chips I've ever had. The staff was so friendly as well :) would definitely recommend this place to anyone in/passing through CR.
google avatar

Jackson M.

Yelp
Not a bad chippy - the wraps were pretty tight, the fish was decent, if I ever find myself in Campbell River again, I would look this place up! Worth it for a nice meal on the beach.
google avatar

Ryan K.

Yelp
I always go to Dicks for fish and chips because it's the place to go. Great service, huge portions and the floating eating area and views are fantastic.
google avatar

Barbara T.

Yelp
My kids always hope we miss the ferry so they can have fish and chips here (and you still get your fish and chips in newspaper). The seafood chowder is awesome!
google avatar

Kyle H.

Yelp
usually a line but well worth the wait. Awesome location on the docks.
google avatar

Marina M.

Yelp
The food was good, but the ladies that worked there were not welcoming and were talking loud amongst themselves. They looked like they did not want to be there, or be bothered for that matter. Made my experience there okay instead of good.
