Dim Sum Chelsea

We stopped by Dim Sum Chelsea on a cold and wet day to get a snack and take a break after a lot of walking around. The restaurant was fairly slow and service was very attentive and friendly. We just wanted a nibble so we only tried the Lotus Rice and the Crab and Spinach dumplings paired with a shared bottle of hot sake. The food was hot and flavorful, the crab and spinach dumplings were juicy but my favorite was the lotus rice that was stuffed with a seasoned meat mixture. I only recently discovered this dish and now its a favorite! I would love to come back to try more dumplings if I'm ever back in the area.

Decent food but terrible experience. Kept being rushed from the moment we sat down. The crab and pork soup dumplings were only lukewarm. Pork buns were good. Crispy sesame pork was just too sweet and serving was very small. Mongolian beef with onion was good. The service was shabby. Atmosphere was average too.

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the city. Food is top notch, with my personal favorites being the hot and sour soup, cumin beef, and the triple delight vegetarian dish. The ambiance is one of a small suburban Chinese restaurant. I moved from Chelsea to the upper east side a few years ago and still make the trek down to Chelsea some nights just to dine here. You won’t be disappointed.

9/13 me & the GF, Sat dinner. On the light side #2, #21, #19, #25. +Wine. All good. 6/21/25 me & The GF, Saturday dinner. C1 ribs - good and with some heat. #21 wonton in spicy sauce - so good. Pork soup dumplings - always amazing. Moo shu chicken - very nice. And a cold Kirin. Service still great! 9/8 back for solo dinner. I got the Shanxi Biangbiang noodles. Really good, more souplike & similar to Daoxaio noodles. So i got the side of rice at the end and it was perfect! So, do that ;) * Side note: my pics were not loading correctly, had to screenshot and reupload, so that's why they look funky.* 5/10/24 dinner- still good. 12/8 solo dinner - got the special table in the back ♥️ good to see everyone. I had the Daoxaio noodles -really loved them, I've never had this kind of noodle before. This dish is more of a soup, so next time I'll get a bowl of rice for the end with all that delicious broth and add the rice. Like a post-appetizer. If you like rice i urge you to do the same. They also have my favorite high quality napkins "SimuLinen" - the best, this tells me they care about the customer. 11/19 dinner - tried the C2 ribs, Dry rub. Nice spices & a little heat. Yum! 11/12 dinner - another great meal that started with the cucumber in scallion sauce appetizer, really good, then we had some soup dumplings. Yes I asked for six and they gave us six, only $2 extra 🙂. Then number 22 pork dumplings in spicy sauce, they were good. Then we split C1 -ribs and dry sauteed string beans. Everything was delicious. Upgrade to 5 ⭐ 9/25 dinner - so good, i got the house special noodles, nice heat spice and flavor. The GF liked what she had, i can't remember. We had the soup dumplings and a spicy wonton appetizer, they were good. Next time i will ask for 6 soup dumplings and see how well that works... we each want 3. I'll let you know. 4/30/23 back again for dinner with the GF. I had the Dry Hot Noodles - very nice! Would get again. The GF had her favorite chicken and broccoli, really good. We had soup dumplings, they were good, but only 5 per order. :( very hard to split a soup dumpling... 10/1/22 first time here. Me and the GF had a nice dinner. Service was good and friendly. The food tasted good, i liked my soup, I had the Dan Dan noodles, good. The GF had chicken and broccoli - she liked it!

Nice ambiance and a quiet place, with comfy booths. Disappointing cuisine. Some Chinese food favorites like moo shoo vegetables (mostly cabbage), ribs and roast duck have overly heavy sauces and the dim sum dumplings, while well priced, have very thick dough. Popular for local takeout.

Do not sleep on this gem!!!! I wanted to try a local spot while on vacation in NY, and I am so glad I stumbled across this location. The service and staff are amazing, the food is delicious. I loved the small details like the design on the napkin, and I didn't have to wait to be seated. I wish I could have brought the jasmine tea back to my hotel. I will be coming back to this location on my next visit to NY!

Everything we ordered was way too salty. Enough salt to over power the spices. That’s very much a shame because the staff and the atmosphere was quite nice. They should leave out salt shakers for people that think salty is a good flavor.

Chongqing style noodles soup was really genuine and nice! Brazed beef noodle soup was also delicious. Dumplings in hot sauce (not very spicy) were good as well. Prices were reasonable and staff were very friendly. Quite spacious inside.

I haven't tried it yet. I just passed and thought I would check the reviews before I ate there, but the reviews are good and so I tend to give it a try. So I went back and had a great meal. Very authentic. Excellent service, great food.

Hard pass. This was barely Chinese food to me. I got 口水雞 - translation mouth watering chicken, which is supposed to be a very delicious cold chicken with spicy oil dish and this was not that. It was like dry salad shredded chicken with peanut butter sauce. Blech. Even the Chinese speaking waiter seemed surprised that I ordered it. Plus, it's expensive for what it is. The ambiance is a little dark in my opinion and it's Chelsea pricing but like, a quarter of the value. Skip.

This place rocked. Super flavorful. My only complaint is I feel I had to bug service for every little thing. For napkins, for chili sauce, soy sauce. Etc. itd just be easier to have it all on the table. Place is very clean. Lovely decorations, subtle, but it added. My favorite was the pancake with green scallion. That mixed with the vinegar and chili was amazing. The chicken and string beans was so plentiful and tasty. It all tasted so good for $60 after tip.

This place is a no brainer. Great food, great prices, great staff. Very casual and busy -- think cramped place in Chinatown, not fine dining -- with a lunch special that brings back memories of the easy '90s when food was affordable!

Quick service but even better food. Cold winters night and all I could think of were some soup dumplings. Yum yum dim sum! Super flavorful and just the perfect bite size. Everything we order was delicious! Great lychee martini and very friendly staff and overall ambiance. I'd post a pic but we are through every single bite tonight

The food was so delicious! We ordered the scallion and garlic cucumbers, soup dumplings, fried veggie dumplings and Mongolian beef! The service/waiter was great. He was super attentive but not excessively, which was great. The restaurant was super clean and we asked to be seated where it was more quiet, the waiter took us to the back room, which was perfect! Definitely coming back!

Came here because of the 4.5 rating (there was others closer but the others only had a 4 star rating.) When I entered the restaurant I was promptly seated + my order was taken swiftly expedited. The restaurant floor is so clean I swear you could eat off of it ! Where I was seated I could watch the 49er game while hearing a soft background music in the background. Everything came to me hot & fresh. The taste & flavor of the food I ordered was outstanding. This place is a definite repeat whenever I come back to New York.

I think this is probably how good Chinese food is supposed to taste! Don't hate us for not knowing any better. Fresh ingredients, you can taste the spices and the flavors. The sauces are delicious and complement the dish. The venue looks like a repurposed coffee shop with booths and counter seats. Had it not been for Yelp reviews I would have walked by. I would have missed out. When in the neighborhood I will come again and look forward to tasting more dishes. I had the pork soup dumplings, a special prawn and tofu with vegetables dish (on the Chef specials) and the dry string beans. Everything was terrific. Even the ginger soy sauce condiment for the table. Rice didn't come with the dishes which surprised me a little but other than to sop up the sauces I didnt care. But if you want rice be sure to ask for it.

We love coming here whenever we are in the city with the family. The food is always great flavors well balanced and the variety is enormous. Service is overly friendly and the dining room is always clean and polished when we walk in. Add this to the rotation!!

The chicken shrimp and beef fried rice was terrible, super bland and the meat tastes gross leaves a weird aftertaste. Would not recommend for 17$ dollars and wasn't able to switch my dish or get a refund!

This is my LAST TIME HERE. Worked in restaurant business for years and this is the worst service you can get. I've been also done in Chelsea pre covid so many times. How did the service got sooo bad in the past years? Walked in at 9:30pm. The restaurant had 4 full tables, still dining and a table in the back of 6 people that were about to order when our group walked in. Manager told us we have to order right the way if we like to dine in because the kitchen will close soon. That's fair considering the place close at 10pm and we don't want to hold the Chefs. We orders right the way. Some Order of side rice come wrong. Brown instead of white. (Mind that they left the extra $$$ price for the brown and never corrected it on the checks). Some plates were very tasty. Other like the dry spicy chicken was horrible. They just made the plate half full with spicy chilly instead of chickens. It was so crunchy and spicy you couldn't eat it, unless you separate one by one the items. We didn't complain considering that it was late. My general Tso wasn't spicy, and way too watery!!! How do you messed up a general tso??? Asked for sesame seeds for the broccoli, they gave me none. The worst was at 9:40 they stopped the music: 3 full table still in the middle of the main corse. And 2 other seated and still left inside/ I thought it was the radio been skipping song. After 10 min I asked why the music is off. "Oh cuz it's late". "There's 4 table still eating and we can hear everyone else table conversation."- Finally manager turned the music on 9:50pm Table of 6 behind us still fully eating. Ours half had done. They dropped the check in, without asking, cleared half of the table mind that the servers had their arms and elbows basically in my food while I was still eating. At 10:05!!!! Like WTF of service is this. Mind my 3 friends had to leave. Me and my other fiends stayed to finish the food, like 5 other minute and still drinking the green tea. I stopped finishing the food and left after to try to rush us out while grabbing the green tea I was still drinking.

Very good spot for lunch. Nice feel and the dishes were pretty good. We tried the pepper steak, sesame chicken, and the crystal dumplings. Nice ambiance for lunch or dinner. Note to restaurant: it made nervous and rushed as the servers were waiting to take my order. No need to "hover" over. Just a suggestion. I'll be back though!

Really good quality dim sum at this spacious restaurant steps away from the C train. Service is efficient and helpful. I was here on a Wednesday evening at 7:30p and the place was almost empty. We ordered a feast: Pork soup dumplings Shanghai pan fried pork buns Pork dumplings in spicy sauce Pan fried pork dumplings Steamed roast duck dumplings Chives shrimp dumplings Steamed egg custard buns Crispy shrimp roll Wonton in spicy sauce Crabmeat & shrimp spinach dumplings Siu Mai with shrimp Dan Dan noodles The highlights were undoubtedly both the pork dumplings and the wonton in spicy sauce, the steamed roast duck dumplings (which you usually don't find on other menus), the chives shrimp dumplings and the dan dan noodles. Get the steamed egg custard buns only if you're into egg custard... they're sweet and gooey. Overall, we had a great time. Dim sum plates are not cheap, though, as they range between $8 and $12. Considering that you get between 3 and 5 items per dish, you need to order a good amount to be satisfied, and prices add up fast. We didn't get any drink or dessert (or entrees) and still paid over $50 per person (not including tip). The zip code adds $15-20 per person to the check (as compared to going to Chinatown).

LNY so had to have noodles and dumplings. pork soup dumplings were good. pea shoots were yummy. lo mein noodles w chicken and jingdu beef were greasy and mediocre. way too many other great chinese options to bother coming back here.

I swung in here while waiting for my friends to have some drinks at another spot lol. I got an order of the pan friend pork dumplings and the pork soup dumplings. Both were delicious! The white rice was great too. Service was wonderful and very attentive. Glad I came in!

Always enjoyable to stop in and try new items from this large menu. Gold and silver buns are bao, fried vs. steamed. Pancake with scallion is distinct from scallion pancake, both options available.

Came here on a quick work trip and we were all hankering for some dim sum. We were sat relatively quickly for a party of 4. The place was packed The dishes we ordered were really tasty. You ordered off the menu and they brought the dishes out. Some of the photos weren't great, we ordered a few dumplings that weren't what we were expecting based on the photo. Overall, a really good experience and we will be back.

Reliably good Chinese food! This location sometimes has a wait for dinner, even if just for a party of two, but lately it's been easier to get in. Most recently, we got the dan dan noodles, snow pea shoots, and jumbo shrimp in black bean sauce, all of which were good. We also got a tofu dish - I am forgetting the name but see photos - we didn't love it. Definitely a good Chinese spot to check out if you happen to be in the area!

I ordered the pork soup dumplings, Shanghainese pan fried buns, and shrimp suimai for takeout on a week night . Everything tastes good, not extraordinary, but the whole order came out to be $31 which was a bit overpriced. I also specifically asked for utensils when I received the order but there were none in the bag. I ended up having to eat everything with my hands . Overall the experience was just okay and I would probably not come back again.

I was in the mood for dumplings while visiting NYC so we found this gem via Yelp and decided to make the trek on foot. We are so glad we found it - I think my partner was even more so. We ordered pork soup dumplings, roasted pork bun and the tofu dish with veggies -everything was delicious. I mean my partner is such a picky eater but she pretty much devoured the entire tofu dish and sampled the non veggie items we ordered. This place was nice and clean onside - even their restroom was clean. That's probably TMI for some folks. But it's quite disappointing when you go to a fancy restaurant or any restaurant and find their restrooms in less than ideal state. Makes you question. How clean the rest of the place is. I am happy to say that this place did not disappoint at all on all counts. Food was delicious - such a wonderful find! Their staff was very attentive and fast! Check them out!

Good local Chinese - clean, decently priced, not to mention tasty! Great selection of menu - mixture of dim sum and general Chinese dishes available to choose from. Pretty impressed with the Mongolian beef. Really nice and flavorful. Also the crispy fried shrimp with chives dim sum dish was very yummy. Service was top notch. Toilets were nice and clean. Decor was nice and pleasant too. Will definitely come back and try out more things from their menu!

We were lucky this place was just two long and two short blocks from our Airbnb! We got take out twice and enjoyed it both times! Soup dumplings! Wontons in chili oil! Pea shoots with garlic! Extra chili oil for our food needs! All were delicious! Sam provided friendly, professional and accurate service for my take out orders! Life is good with fresh chili oil!

This is some of the best Dim Sum in Manhattan. Friends introduced me to this place, and I will go out of my way to visit or make it part of my time in Chelsea if I'm near the area. Staff is great, food is incredible. In my opinion, it's best to go with a group and order a lot so that you can try a lot for a very affordable price. They have beer, wine, and sodas available for drinks. 5-star all around! You cannot go wrong with Dim Sum Chelsea!!

Wonderful food served freshly made and delicious! The chive shrimp dumplings satisfy without being heavy. Sesame chicken came lightly fried, served with rice. Service was attentive and gracious. I loved the cleanliness of the dining room, front entry as well as bathrooms. We definitely want to return to try new dishes!

Great food, great service, extensive menu and very clean, as others have noted. They accommodated me with by adding bok choy to a beef dish that had a tangy flavor. It was really fantastic . Thinking of going back to have again during my long weekend visit to NYC. So happy to have found this gem without having to navigate through Chinatown.

We walked into the restaurant Tuesday evening for a dim sum after walking back from the Highline park. We liked the soup dumpling which was juicy and crystal shrimp dumpling which had minced and diced jumbo shrimp . We didn't like the fried dumpling too much which the dough was too bready. We also enjoyed spiciness of braised noodle soup.

Great Chinese restaurant, with plenty of dishes to chose from. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options, I've got eggplant with ginger sauce and liked it. Seaweed salad also good. Easy to get seated and fast service. Highly recommend.

This was a lovely find in Chelsea. Thanks yelpers! Great dim sum made to order. Fresher and larger serving size than most in the SF Bay Area I'm used to. Fluffy and light dumplings and noodles. The spicy green beans were amazing!

Consistently outstanding food at very reasonable prices. I've never had a bad dish there but especially love their shrimp shu mai, cold sesame noodles (which have a nice spice level), and the cold scallion cucumbers. The people who run the restaurant are lovely. Well worth a visit.

This is slowly becoming my favorite Chinese spot in this neighborhood after probably taking close to a year or two to figure it out. I had a good feeling about it after seeing the menu. I had a good feeling about it after walking/or running by it numerous times every week. Finally we made the plunge to try it from one of our other regular Chinese spots and we were both pleasantly surprised. I think the only negative thing I could say about the food is that they stuff their eggrolls with way too many vegetables to the point where I'm not even sure if there's meat in them. But the variety and amount of dishes to choose from and some being real authentic noodle dishes is awesome. The set up looks like an American diner that had a revamp into a Chinese hole in the wall spot. But one of the nicer and cleaner ones I've been to in awhile. I also like that they have a wide variety of affordable sakes on the menu, that I have yet to hit up. So far I've tried their soup dumplings, which were okay. They were better at least than some other places and had actual soup in them. Their wonton and shanghai wonton soups. The Shanxi Bianbian noodle dish which was insanely spicy but really good with hand cut noodles. I've also had the stir-fried noodle Xinjiang and the Noodle with House Special Sauce. All legit spicy but all so different and worth checking out. Their special noodles list is impressive and is going to take me an awful long time to trek through over time but I'm here for trying them all. The portions are also enormous. Enormous enough that after eating I usually still have two more meals leftover. Best part, last time I was dining in they took ten percent off the bill. Definitely going to be a regular customer from now on.

Love dumplings and Dim Sum. So gave this place a try. Went on a Monday night. Still had quite a few customers. So that was a sign. Service was good. Place is nice. Had a soup dumpling. Dim sum. And a pan fried dumpling. Also a chicken dish. Everything was good enough. Would have gone with a 4 star. But ended up with a stomach ache late a night. So they lost a star for that. Too bad. I did like the food

Fantastic. Great alternative to Chinatown. Authentic flavors and spice. Great service. Generous portions. Peking duck was fantastic, enjoyably juicy without sauce. The tofu with vegetables had a nice complement of flavors. Rice was well done. Soup dumplings executed perfectly.

Excellent dim sum option in the area. We were seated quickly and they have a high chair for the babies. Nice selection of teas, beers and wines. We tired a variety of dim sum. The standouts were pork dumpling in spicy sauce (I could drink that sauce), shrimp crystal dumping, shanghai buns, shrimp siu mai (though wouldve preferred pork), and finished off with red bean paste buns. only 2 things i would skip next time are soup dumplings and bbq buns. Both were good but can find better elsewhere. will definitely add this to our regular rotation of dim sum spots!

We were looking for a place to grab a quick bite and stumbled upon Dim Sum Chelsea. The food to our surprise was very good! We loved the Spicy Wontons and Pork Soup Dumplings. Both came out hot and was prepared well. The braised beef noodle soup broth was layered with flavor and was super comforting given the cold weather outside. Highly recommend if you're looking for something quick and tasty!

Couldn't wait for dumplings in NY and these were great. Prices are good and dumplings are better. Excellent place to stop for a bite.

Amazing dim sum gem in Chelsea! My friend and I were craving dim sum and wanted to go somewhere not crowded and a place that takes reservations, so we decided to give this place a try after seeing the great reviews. So glad we decided to give this place a try because not only was the food delicious, the prices were reasonable and they did not cheap out on the shrimp on our dim sum. All the food was fresh and delicious and everything came super fast. Service was also great. Servers were extremely attentive. Ambience was super cute. Had diner style seating with booths and with a Chinese flair. It also seemed like they had table seating in the back for larger groups, which is convenient. My friend and I were craving shrimp everything so we ordered every single shrimp dim sum dish to share. Each one was delicious. We also ordered the scallion pancakes, which were friend perfectly and were crispy and delicious. Overall, great food, service, and really clean. This is definitely going to be my new go-to dim sum spot. Nice to have a dim sum spot that takes a reservations and is not in the crowded section of Chinatown. Definitely a Must try!

Came here for a super quick bite before meeting friends for drinks. This was the only restaurant that could take me with no wait so I decided to give it a shot and I will say, it was great! Started off with a nice cold Sapporo which was served very promptly. For food, I got some soup dumplings and chicken lo mein. The soup dumplings were piping hot and delicious. The quantity of lo mein was enormous! My plate was piled high with the noodles, chicken, and veggies. They definitely didn't skimp on any accord. I feel like sometimes restaurants try to make up for a lack of quality with an increased quantity, but that was definitely not the case here. The lo mein was amazing! Service was great also which rounded out this wonderful experience. Would love to return! The staff even charged my phone since it was about to die.

Restaurant with good dim sum, the pork and crab soup dumplings were juicy and flavourful. The highlight was the lamb ribs with cumin and onion. The lamb was so rich with umami and the right amount of fat. The cumin elevated the savoury lamb flavour perfectly and with the chili spice, it is an exceptionally tasty dish over white rice. The Peking duck was relatively affordable and pretty delicious, but probably would not order again. The duck had crispy skin and pretty juicy meat, but was cut poorly and still had some bones. The crepes are not your traditional Peking duck pancakes and did not feel like a good holder of the ingredients. The cucumbers weren't properly cut, but Hoisin sauce and scallions were good. Overall, it was still tasty but had its shortcomings.

A male server with glasses that had not served me at all during the whole time I dined in had the audacity to ask me for a tip (which I usually give in cash) after my mother paid with her card we had not even gotten up or gather our things from the table when he asked not knowing I had the tip in hand. He was very rude I got up and gave him the tip in his hand and told him it was very rude and that I shouldn't even be tipping at all. The food was okay but what he did really just wasn't okay.

Very bland. No complaint about service or the place as a restaurant. Food is not to my taste. Dan Dan noodle too much vinegar with lacking umami and minimal meat and peanut/sesame paste. Sauce felt very watered down. Same with lo mein. It lacked flavor and seasoning. Szechuan dried pepper chicken also lacked Szechuan pepper which made it taste like popcorn chicken with some dried pepper. My mistake to choose this place based on Yelp review. This place is not for someone who is used to more Chinese flavoring. I think this place cater to those who live around Chelsea. Chinatown is not too far and I should have gone there... We were hungry and it served as a quick fix.

We were visiting Chelsea Market and wanted dim sum for lunch so we decided to leave the crowds and walk to nearby Dim Sum Chelsea. We were seated right away by the friendly and courteous staff. The food was great and came out quickly. We really liked the soup dumplings and sautéed pea shoots.

This spot is delicious! Cozy, with plastic barriers between each booth so you feel safe and taken care of by the really considerate staff. Every dish here is so balanced in salt, oil, and flavor. We ordered a ton but here are the must-gets: - the crispy and juicy shrimp and chive dumplings - the perfectly-fried shanghai pork buns - the comforting pork soup dumplings Honorable mentions: the decadent and sparsely oiled pork lo mein and the unique and light shrimp-crab-spinach dumplings. I'd skip the scallion pancakes (not enough scallion). We'll be back to try the pork buns, egg custard buns, and more noodle dishes. 5 stars!!!!!
