"Eat like an Emperor at Oslo's Best Chinese Restaurant Dinner is a high end Chinese restaurant located across the street from Oslo’s Nationaltheatret (national theatre). Rumoured to make the city's best crispy duck, Dinner is said to rival restaurants in Soho's Chinatown - but classier. Dinner offers a plethora of different teas, some with truly beguiling characteristics, as well as a well stocked wine and beer menu. Punters can choose from the lunch menu, a la carte menu or the set menu, guaranteed to find something satisfying. A good choice for families, couples, or business lunches."

Everything was perfect at dinner from the food to the service. The place is quite busy but it didn’t bother us. Best part was the vegetable rolls and the beef (the one inside the white crispy bowl)

Very cool experience at dinner. We went with the chefs menu which was delicious and affordable for the amount of food. The setting is beautiful and the staff are polite and attentive. The wine pairing which my partner tried was delicious. Cocktails which I had were wonderful.

Similar kind of Chinese Szechuan food with Nodee Barcode in Oslo, they have similar menu and dishes, similar atmosphere and table settings, also the cutleries. We came for early dinner on weekdays. Seems they had quite full reservations after 6pm. We ordered their Szechuan Mala dish Shui Zhu Fisk (Szechuan boiled cod in chili sauce, with chinese cabbage, fresh peppers) and Tin Tin Hot Pot (Scallops, scampi and beef in an aromatic chili sauce). Both dishes were good, tasty, and delicious. Ingredients were fresh. Service was good, atmosphere is nice and cozy. Highly recommended for Szechuan food in Oslo. The other day we came visit again and ordered Kam Kon Pot (Scampi, lamb, chicken, and beef in garlic and chilli pepper sauce) and Kyilling Gong Bao (Kungpao chicken with seasonal vegetables and cashew nuts). The Kam Kon Pot was very delicious, savoury and tasty. Meat were tender and scampi was fresh. Kyilling Gong Bao was good and meat was tender too. Very nice dishes we always had in Dinner Restaurant. So good.

When we entered I thought I wouldn't be able to afford a thing on the menu because this place is CLASSY, wonderful atmosphere and lighting, even take your coats before entering. Food is extremely well priced - absolutely delicious, flavoursome, FRESH & I was impressed that even the vegan duck was made from scratch (and amazing) I would have gone here most days during our Oslo stays had we found it sooner!

Food was very nice, with decent portions and good taste. We ordered the signature menu and it was really nice, with very well done options. The wine wasn't as good, and their cocktails are served in really small portions.

Google
High level restaurant with very good service and excellent food. The design is interesting, but the place can be busy and not all table are so comfortable. A place to reccomend for sure!

One of the best and most unexpected beyond high quality service and food I experienced in Oslo. I knew it’s fine dining from the description but I didn’t expect that it would be beyond what I was thinking. They took our coat when we arrived and placed it at the coat wardrobe and greeted us with smiles. We were guided in our seats and offered the menu. Food came so fast, was served with one of the best dry wines. The lady who was serving was very attentive and helpful, she did an excellent service. The food is also top-tier. I highly recommend this place!

Dinner at Nationaltheater has been one of my favourite chinese restaurant in Oslo for more than 20 years. They serve Szechuan dishes which can be spicy. I have not been at Dinner since covid time, and I am really disapointed this time. We order first the well famous crispy duck for 2 persons. They used to serve 1/2 duck with both leg and breast. This time, it is just 1/4 of a duck and they use a duck breast. Duck breast meat is dry and not tasty. In addition they serve it with some pickled root vegetables in addition to the traditional cucumber and spring onions. This is not a good combination. For the main dishes we ordered Half a lobster and a shellfish skewer with scallops, salmon, catfish and scampi. Normally this dish is served in a hotpot with some nice sauce. We asked for spicy, but this was a really dissapointment. Dried fish and scampi. The second main dish was «GONG CIO AO JO SI» A crispy fried finely shredded beef. Served with classic wine vinegar sauce. This dish kept it original form and was good but again not spicy as we asked for. It seems like the chef’s has lost the Szechuan touch. Probably the last time I will go here, as this was a dissapointment and quality below it previous standard. The waiter was not observant either, forgot to provide proper cutlery for us. I am an ethnic asian so I know pretty well what cutlery to use here.

Yelp
For a name like Dinner some would think the cuisine would fit into a rudimentary menu, this is anything but. Wow, this restaurant has been one of the most rewarding dining experiences from beginning to end. If you are in Oslo and want to see a symphony of collaboration between chefs, serving staff, and the guest, I highly recommend this place. The food is just mouthwatering, from the sight alone one starts involuntarily salivating and each bite was special. Easily one of the nicest restaurants I have stepped in as far as lighting, comfortable seats and spacing between other patrons. I'm not usually a dessert person but you're going to want to indulge at this Dinner.

Yelp
Extremely tasty Chinese. We just popped in after walking around Oslo and we're very pleasantly surprised. It's definitely a little fancy, I liked the vibe. My boyfriend is Norwegian so that helped. Not sure if they know much English, but it didn't matter for me haha. The crispy duck is delicious. The wage dumpling, crab and shrimp balls and the egg rolls I highly recommend.

Yelp
What an excellent restaurant and it was totally last minute. We just arrived to Oslo in the late evening and there were 8 of us so not many options for a big group for a late dinner. We were all so pleasantly surprised. Everything from hot and sour soup to pang pang beeg and crispy duck was awesome!! Not one thing we could complain about. It was all thoroughly enjoyed. Actually one thing, maybe a bit bigger entrees for sharing purposes.

Yelp
Had dinner there twice this week. Excellent both times. Surprised we were able to get reservations short notice. All of their "pot" dishes are really good and can be very spicy. But, my new favorite was their price fixed Chef Menu which we also did the wine pairing with each course which made it a bit expensive, but it was absolutely fantastic.

Yelp
This was recommended to us as the best Chinese restaurant in Oslo, which to be fair one can only expect so much since most Chinese food in the US is pretty iffy at best as well with far more Chinese people. The people who run the restaurant are all Chinese. The food tends to focus on Cantonese (Dim Sum) and Szechuan, but isn't exactly authentic. The venue is very sleek and intimate and feels more like a western restaurant/bar and definitely caters to a Millennial "hip" crowd. The stir fried vegetables were mostly squash and cellophane noodles and not very good. The half crispy duck came with fresh thin pancakes and all the expected fillings but the duck was quite dry and they shredded it instead of slicing. The 4 piece dim sum basket had 3 fried items and a shumai, which was by far the closest to the real thing. ~100 for dinner for two with a beer. If you are desperate for something resembling Chinese late night, and care more about atmosphere that food, come here.

Yelp
Dim sum is sooo yum. Elegant ambiance, delicious Asian cuisine, so yummy. Every time I'm in Oslo I have to go to get me some amazing Dim sum. If you're more than one I highly recommend their chef's menu. Great delicious beautifully presented variety and wine pairing.

Yelp
Very pricey & not super tasty. We got the 4 course prix fixe menu and overall it was disappointing. The best thing was the crispy duck but it was a small portion & they served too many toppings with it so that you had topping left over & no more duck. The 2 cocktails we ordered were the best part, the passionfruit one and an espresso martini

Yelp
Major disappointment. We saw the Michelin star on the door and that the place was packed so we expected it should be phenomenal food. Well off the bat, the service wasn't good. We were told we had an hour and a half to eat. After we sat down and got our drinks, we wanted three items off the dim sum section as there were only two of us and we don't eat much. Unfortunately, the restaurant has a weird policy, they refused to serve us unless we got four items from the dim sum section or two items and an entree. We compromised on two dim sum and an entree. The kindest way to describe the food is that it's better than most Chinese takeout "restaurants" in NYC. No idea why so many people go here.

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Unbelievably unpleasant. I should have just left. I wondered how they could have a Michelin Star, and turns out they don't really! They have a plate, not a star, and that explains quite a bit. We got there and ordered drinks and some dumplings to start. But the waiter immediately and rudely tells us we MUST order an entree and things from the dim sum menu don't count! How is that possible?! It's a dim sum restaurant. What he really should have said were that the portions were small and we'd likely would want more food. But instead he made it sound like we either had to order more, or chug our drinks and go. I should have left right then, but I figured given the reviews, it had to be good. But no! Everything was mediocre at best. The restaurant was also loud and the table next to us nearly knocked over our stuff as they got up. As did the waiter, who at one point had the back flap of his jacket in our sauce. But at least he made us laugh: at the end he asked for a tip.

Yelp
Excellent gourmet Chinese in the heart of Oslo. Starters include a very flavorful and appropriately spiced hot and sour soup and wagyu dumplings. They have four different kinds of duck, a breaded lamb with sauce, and an array of chicken and beef dishes befitting of any upscale Chinese menu. The fried rice also stood out for being low in grease and light. I'll definitely be returning to try what I couldn't on my first visit. Areas for improvement: -3 dumplings is an awkward number to share in an appetizer, although I've been advised by a local it's not uncommon to order appetizers individually -they forgot about our mains after bringing our starters

Yelp
This is a Michelin restaurant in Oslo, Norway. We had lunch here. We enjoyed the duck salad, prawn, chicken "kung Pao", grilled Turbot fish, and beef, with fried and steamed white rice. Quite nice lunch experience. Very good service. Priced at the high side. $$$$

Yelp
This place has good ambiance and a nice place for a business dinner with a group as you can order family style. Food is average and little on the pricey side.

Yelp
There is a difference between a Norwegian eating Chinese food and a Chinese eating Chinese food. To me, this is overpriced Chinese food catering to rich Norwegians. The room, atmosphere, service was as expected for your money. If you don't count being surrounded by ignorant couples eating an egg roll with a fork and knife. Wine selections probably one of the best part of the meal. Strangely- the most memorable aspect for me was the rice. It brought me straight back to my childhood, the countless Chinese restaurants I've grown up in. Got the Chefs course, 499,-. The starter was an assortment of fried stuff, but cheap and average- strange at a fine dining place. The crispy duck was on par, very good- but of course I got distracted by customers who kept wrapping it with fork and knife.... Fish mains was good, nothing spectacular- but proper Sichuan hot like I asked (halfway through service I just start speaking Chinese, which shocked them a bit). Dessert was average and obviously straight outta a freezer. I know this is what it costs at places like this in Oslo. But it still makes me long for home. Before I came here I had a feeling my moms cooking would still be 10xs better, and I was right.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in the city. Nice interior and great food. But remember to make a reservation; otherwise you will sit downstairs.

David H.

Yelp
We were excited about eating at Dinner. The atmosphere was extremely nice, the reviews were outstanding. But after eating there, the restaurant must have written their own review. The waiter was rude, took 10 minutes to get a menu, another 10 minutes to get water. When he took our order, he was useless in helping us choose an entree. We received items that did not resemble what we ordered. The presentation was nice but food was undercooked. Waiter never came back to ask how our meal was. The table next to us took a long piece of hair out of their rice-totally gross! Don't believe what you read on the reviews, this place was a disgrace other than the ambiance. We will NOT return.

Yelp
This was the only restaurant in Oslo where the dinner "moved along". Other restaurant experiences took up to 3 hours, so this was a welcome relief -- not too fast, but not veeerrrry slow either. As a visitor to the city, I wanted to see the sights and do other things, not sit in a restaurant for an entire evening. Food was very good. Did ala carte instead of fixed course menu. Had a scallop appetizer, seafood adventure platter, a salad and a vegetarian vegetable entree. All were very good and my friend and I shouldn't have ordered so much as the portions were pretty big. I didn't think they would be as all my other dining experiences were that portions were on the smaller side. Great. Would definitely go back if I visit Oslo again.

Yelp
Average $ spend for dinner (main course with a glass of wine) is about 500NOK. They will give you a 2 hour window for dinner because that's how long it will take them. The fried seabass was definitely not fresh. With the heavy flavored sweet and sour sauce, the fish was still fishy. Heads up- it's the entire fish deep fried- served with the head facing you. The duck breast was really well done. The wine that was paired with it was tasteless after the duck as the duck was too spicy, numbing the tongue. Mango pudding was not really mango pudding. It was a regular custard pudding with mango sauce. The money is really spent on atmosphere and presentation. Service wasn't top notch as it was really slow. Definitely not a Chinese restaurant. Yelp
I gave it two stars solely for the ambience and the decor. This is considered a "hip" place in the center of Oslo. it is apparently the most popular and successful restaurant out of a few the owner has around the city. See my other review for Noodee Barcode (one of the other restaurants owned by the same chain). My friends and I went there for lunch and the food was very underwhelming. We all got the same thing: seafood soup and bento box lunch combo. The seafood was way too sweet for my taste and the bento box was very underwhelming in the sense that it tasted like anything you would get in the frozen section of a supermarket. Nothing was very special. On top of that, the food took soooooooo long. We waited at least 45 minutes for our entrees to arrive. Service was very underwhelming at all. I found our waitress to be quite abrasive, borderline rude. As a connoisseur of Chinese food, this is nothing authentic or original. The bill came out to $50/each, which for the price, was a complete disappointment. Do not recommend and would certainly not come again. PS: This restaurant apparently does not allow kids for dinner service.

Yelp
Dinner was a great experience for me. I came here with my US friends to try some Chinese food. We ordered the basics like dumplings, shumai, and ha gao. They look so authentic and were all spot on with their taste. No negative experience at all. I'd definitely come back again when I visit!

Yelp
it was very good, we loved everything we had. though they did try to seat us in a hallway with reservations. Kindly moved us after about 1/2 hour. Stick to the smaller dishes as well

Yelp
The food is good, but far from authentic Sichuan cuisine. It is a place most Westerners would like, but not for those who are in the know.

Yelp
Still one of the best Chines restaurants in Oslo, the DimSum is magic :-) the only thing this place does not have are good prices.. it's too expensive :(

Yelp
Fantastic asaian gourmet, stylish atmosphere and elegant service. Love the crispy duck

Yelp
Great service, decor and food. Overall a very nice experience. Food came when you wanted and staff was very helpful. We went for the spicy Sichuan dishes that we knew. They were good, but just not awesome, why I am giving the place 4 stars.

Ragnhild L.

Yelp
Dinner is a huge hit in Oslo, but that's also because it's Oslo. Yes the food is high quality and very tasty, but in another big city they could never get away with charging the amount they do and let people wait for around an hour for their meal. One the plus side: fantastically prepared seafood, tasty dim sum and a consistently high quality of service and food alike.
google avatar

Yelp
My Norwegian relatives in Oslo told me this is the best Chinese in town, and they may be right. I couldn't afford to stick around to try any competitors, but I would call Dinner an above-average Westernized Chinese place with stunningly fast service (for Europe) and very reasonable prices (for O$LO). Not a bad choice for a tourist in the middle of the city.

Katherine R.

Yelp
I was told that we wouldn't find good Chinese food in Oslo, they were very mistaken. The food here was impeccable and equally satisfied our group of 12 people. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Ended up her randomly on a rainy day in Oslo. I was a bit disappointed by the food, not very exciting.

Kathryn G.

Yelp
Excellent service! one of the best restaurants in the city. most restaurants in oslo all seem so average but this one was definitely worth going back to!

Hui L.

Yelp
Nice to see a high end Chinese restaurant in the north. The food are mainly dim sum and taste good in traditional way. They don't have a very wild choices for the food but each item is well prepared. Worth to try!

Sebbe S.

Yelp
Recommended in the Guide Michelin, this is not your ordinary noodle place. Suit up and mosey down to perhaps the best oriental place in Oslo. The service is attentive and low voiced, the food is as beautiful as it is excellent. This is where you bring your date to show off your chopstick skills while she blinds you with her diamond earrings. We all had the Lunch box -- a selection of tasteful samples of Chinese specialties, beautifully arranged in a box with six compartments. Dinner has a nice selection of teas and we were recommended the Genma Cha green tea with the course. Good choice. The service was impeccable-- we had the waiters' attention through the whole meal. The venue is classy and low lit, the bathroom was spotless though a bit hard to find. I would gladly have given Dinner a higher rating if the bill had stayed under 250 Nkr per person. It did not, even though we only had beer and tea with the food. But then again, if this paves the way to a happy ending of your date, it may well be worth it.

Austin H.

Yelp
Visited Dinner at the advise of the Continental Hotel Concierge. Was seated downstairs, which was a great section with a sleek atmosphere. Started with the Siu Mai from the Dinner dim sum menu. It was a descent order of three dumplings with a wonderful dipping sauce. After this, I moved to the highlight of the meal, the Kam-Kon-Pot. I order the dish spicy, as I love hot food, and it delivered on the promisses. It hurt so good. The dish was full of flavor which led to a chilli high that had me going back for more. All in all, it was a great meal easily accessed from the hotel. What more could a frequent traveler ask for?

Yelp
God mat, men lang ventetid da vi var der. Restauranten var fullstappet, så det så ut til å være en populær plass. Fint å få asiatisk mat som ikke er som på tradisjonelle kinarestauranter.
