The past couple of days have been a blast. We left Monkey Mia to catch the “ferry” to Dirk Hartog Island. A totally unexpected Ferry ride, when it raised onto the”skis and just belted off doing donuts in the sea, and a landing craft approach to the shore, where we were greeted by a wonderful team Gracie, Kat, and Chelsey, Lauren, Ellie, Jay, Chi and Ollie an experience we will never forget. After a welcome drink and an insight into the history of the Island, we loaded into 4x4’s and were taken to the top of the island where we saw sharks close to shore, spectacular blowholes shooting water high into the sky, and views you have to see. Back to the Homestead for Island grown Gin tasting and lunch.. we had some downtime and paddle boarding and kayaking, in the crystal clear sea. I obviously mastered it very quickly and returned to the gin. Or fell off so many times I gave up.. later we had an evening drive to a sand dune mountain which certain members ran down the steep side but I had to video and then look after the phones. We then witnessed the sunset over the bay, a lovely fish dinner and a nightcap as the moon appeared. I have to say the team were fabulous, and we didn’t want to leave. Yes, there were sharks coming right up to the waters edge, some of Australias most dangerous spiders and snakes, but the place, views and people who live and welcome you to the island make it all worth while. We left by a little 6 seater plane which took us around the islands and salt mines, then back to mainland and the car for another 4 1/2 hour road trip to catch another flight to Perth. Fabulous once in a lifetime experience.
