The 8 Best Walking Tours in Paris (Updated 2025)

"I’ve found Discover Walks useful because they offer both free and paid tours (almost 60 in Paris), so you can usually find something that interests you — they have a great free Latin Quarter tour and some more unique options like a photography workshop." - Matthew Kepnes

Floriane was the best guide anyone could have! Our tour could not have been better. She is so extremely knowledgeable about history as well as present-day Paris. She skillfully guided us around the city and into all of our requested sites with ease. She recommended a lovely lunch place which we enjoyed tremendously. We love Floriane! We felt very comfortable, even though we speak no French. This tour is well worth the investment and highly recommended! We came to France for a World War II tour that we embarked on the day following Paris. It was wonderful too, but honestly, our day with Floriane was the highlight of our trip.

Three couples traveling together and this private tour with Flo was absolutely perfect!!! Thanks for letting us add the van to see more of the city! Drive was great at getting us close to all the major sites like back ways to get to the Eiffel Tower and the Arc of Triumph! Flo did a great job of sharing history and current events to really make our trip perfect! Love Paris and loved our tour!!!

Google
We did the Historic Centre tour (from Notre Dame to Louvre) with the beautiful guide Julie. It was a wonderful tour with a good mix of historical information, hidden places and the unique feeling of parisian flair. Julie took herself time to answer all of our questions and she transported her love to her hometown Paris with a lot of energy and ease. We could definitely recommend this tour to everyone. Merci beaucoup for this great experience 🙏

Google
Harry was a wonderful guide. He took us on walk to see all that we asked and more! His knowledge is impressive as was his charm and authenticity. We learned so much and became familiar with the city allowing us to confidently continue to explore on our own. We highly rate Harry as a guide!

Adam D.

Google
Excellent tour from Mathieu today of the Latin Quarter. Mathieu was so knowledgeable and so personable that made our walk so enjoyable. Hearing unique stories from a local Parisian makes this tour a must do !!

April G.

Google
Max was a fantastic guide for our tour of Montmartre. He was very knowledgeable of the city, the history and also had a really great perspective on what it’s like to live there present day. Whereas some tour guides just onboard you with an endless flow of information, Max was able to keep the tour light with his humor and jovial personality while blending in historical accounts and facts making the tour interesting and enjoyable. Cannot recommend him enough!

Meredith M.

Google
Dominique was extremely knowledgeable and kind. He had a great personality and really knew about Paris. He didn’t rush us at all especially in Notre Dame which was nice because that’s a lot to take in and experience. We all enjoyed the pace of the day!

Google
We just completed a free guided tour with Elise of the Montmartre area. She was knowledgeable, factual, funny and of course French. I would highly recommend this tour of this area and hopefully your guide is Elise😊

Yelp
Great concept of free or pay as you wish. I paid E15 per person and thought it was excellent value. Guide was knowledgeable, helpful and responsive. Actually the Marais was the second tour after Montmartre yesterday. I would recommend both wholeheartedly. I've lived in Paris but realized how little I know or how much more there is to know. Leonie our Montmartre guid also did an excellent interpretation of a Dalida song. Merci Leonie and Sara.

Yelp
We've had a few successes with Viator so this is leaving me completely puzzled. On May 8, 2025, we were supposed to meet someone at the Henry IV statue at the Pont Neuf bridge at 3:15 to get our tickets for the 3:30 tour. We got there early enough to have lunch and walk around a bit. At 2:30 we went over to the statue and sat on a bench to enjoy the sights and wait for our tour. at 3:20, no one had showed up with tickets. We called the tour provider and they said they had notified Viator that this specific tour was oversold and that we were moved to the 3:00 tour. NO ONE ever told us. ON top of that, we were at the location at 2:45 (the time they said we needed to get the tickets at the statue) and NO ONE was there. We called Viator and they said we were considered "late" and they could not refund us, despite the fact that we were way early. at 3:37 pm, we received an email from Viator saying that our tour had changed to 3:00 pm and we needed to be at the statue at 2:45. nearly an HOUR after the time we were supposed to be there, they notified us. However, we WERE there. Viator still claims they cannot refund our tickets. I'll add, the email they sent us had a 3:00pm timed ticket to enter Notre Dame on our own, but we received it 37 minutes too late. This was a once in a lifetime trip, and to miss such a highlight as Notre Dame, after we've taken so much time to plan ahead, and pay nearly $200 for this unique experience.

Yelp
I am so impressed with this company and their philosophy. It is a pleasure to get a customized tour with a real local. I ventured on 5 tours with this company while in Paris and I learned not only about the important hot spots of Montmartre, the Latin Quarter, and the Right Bank, but also quite a bit about the history and every day life. Each guide has their own story and personality, but I had the pleasure of doing a paid street art tour followed by a free Latin Quarter tour with Victor who is top notch. All team members are great with people including the office staff who is very responsive and helpful over the phone and via email. I like their business model and plan to support them in all cities I travel to. Thanks Discover Walks!

Yelp
Discover Walks is an incredible way to see Paris! As most reviewers have posted, once you catch the bug, you can't do just one! They are quite addicting! We participated in two (as we had a night tour with a professor from the University of Paris one evening...that was pretty spectacular too)! We toured the Latin Quarter/Left Bank and the Right Bank. Our guides were all wonderful, all of them! We had at least two guides on each tour and we were well entertained, as they made it fun (no boring, stodgy tours here)! Some things we visited: Notre Dame, a film house, a creperie, the University of Paris, the love locks, a famous book store, and the list goes on. We interacted with professors, children and the people of Paris indirectly on these walks, a more unique and local experience for anyone who wants to see more of the real Paris! Upon our return to California we happened to find: Discover Walks San Francisco. The organization is growing in it's local flavor tours around the world!

Yelp
We arranged a full day private walking tour of Paris; our guide's name was Dominique. He was absolutely outstanding. Met us on time, was completely flexible on things we wanted to see and do. Very knowledgeable of history, venues, and Paris in general. He made sure we did not waste time in lines, and showered us with facts and interesting stories. It was a delightful day, I cannot say enough good things about our experience.

Yelp
Just returned back to my apartment after taking the Montmartre, Paris, Discovery Walk with tour guide Camille. The tour was excellent. It lasted 1 1/2 hours just as promised. We explored many of the unknown streets and unknown sites of Montmartre. Once again, the tour guide Camille, was outstanding. She gave tremendous amounts of information but not too much information. This was an English language tour, with 15-20 people from several different countries. Gorgeous walking tour which gave us many ideas for restaurants & streets we will return to. The tour starts at Moulin Rouge & ends at Sacre Coeur. I highly recommend Discover Walks Paris!

Yelp
Do you like the word "FREE"? Me too! when I saw this eye-catching pink brochure at our hotel with the words "FREE guided tours of Paris" I said: "oh, this we have to see!" It almost sounded too good to be true. No need to make any reservations, you just show up at the designated meeting place at the time mentioned and look for your tour guide who'll be wearing a pink shirt. Rain or shine, the tour goes on. We already did a bit of exploring on our own, the day prior to showing up for the Left Bank tour and the meeting place was at the Opera House. They also have tours of Right Bank, Montmarte, Latin Quarter, etc. We had a small group, only 6 people showed up, but I was delighted because our guide, Philippe (aka Bertrand) is a hoot! He spoke perfect English and was very gregarious. We came to find out that not only is he born and raised in Paris, but also lived in Los Angeles for 15 years. He told us tidbits that only a real Parisian would know and he had a knack for telling stories. His funny anecdotes and even funnier personal stories are the things you wouldn't get from a run of the mill tour. JOIN Discover Walks tours -- it's only 90 minutes long but you would've gotten to know the city at a different level than if you've gone exploring by yourself! For the Left Bank tour we visited: Jardin du Tuilliries, Opera House, walked around Rue St. Honore, Place Vendome and Place de la Concorde. This tour is just splendid! I can't praise this company enough for doing free tours like this. (PLEASE tip accordingly!) Also at the end of the tour, he gives you a discovery walks "perks package", it has tips on saving time in Paris and even includes a river cruise coupon for only €4.50 (compared to other companies that were charging €12 up!) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Yelp
Yes! I love this company. Often do I find when I do free walking tours, the tour guides aren't from the county or the area. These guides are, and have been living in Paris all their lives. My guide had studied abroad in Columbia , which I found awesome . They don't have a bunch to pick from , but do Montmartre if you're into art and culture and beautiful things. Wish I could have done more.

Yelp
We booked a private 3.5 hour/half-day tour, initially vía Viator but when Viator needlessly cancelled our reservation, we booked directly with Discover Walks Paris, which i would recommend (cutting out the middleman). Antea was proactively communicative and responsive as we put together our desired itinerary and in helping to rebook our tour after the snafu with Viator. Mathieau, our tour guide, was amazing. He was polite, well-spoken, and extremely knowledgeable as well as focused on making sure we got to do everything we wanted, which we did. We began our day with a solid hour at the Louvre, hitting the main attractions (Mona Lisa, Venus di Milo, etc.) but also got in a lot more than I would have expected possible both in terms of viewing the collections and history of the Louvre itself. We followed this with a quick photo shoot and history at the Eiffel Tower. We ended our day with a wonderful and fact-filled tour of Montmarte replete with stories of the artists who have visited or taken residence in its storied studios, and culminating with an amazing view of and from Sacré-Cœur. I would highly recommend both Discover Walks Paris and our tour guide Mathieu.

Yelp
Had a great time with our small group and Guide Eric who showed us the landmarks of Paris. Really informative, just the right pace.

Yelp
Holy crap this was good! I used to have the mindset that good quality had to mean high price, but these "free walking tours" have proved me wrong. These tours are led by college/graduate school students who do this with a great deal of passion and panache. I am always impressed by the French cultural pride and these tours are way better than reading on tripadvisor online and wandering around alone. I think this is probably the best way to start out a trip in Paris!

Yelp
GREAT Tours! We had two great tours on 9/11/10, one of the Latin Quarter with Pauline and one of Notre Dame with Bertrand. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guides, what more can you ask for, they also included lots of little tidbits, you pretty much have to be Parisian to know. What better tour guides than locals! We can't recommend them enough.

Yelp
Ophelia was an excellent guide for our tour of Montmartre. She was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. At one point we stopped outside of a bakery where she purchased baguettes for everyone to taste. She explained the importance of baguettes in French culture. Her educational background in art was to our advantage. Ophelia had a notebook of paintings by the artists who were inspired by Montmartre. She helped us understand more about these artists and their work. Thanks to Ophelia, we were able to imagine Montmartre in its early times and how it became a cultural center. Incidentally, we almost walked away before the tour began because so many people had showed up. Our group was still rather large after we were sorted into two groups. Ophelia handled our large group with no problem. We are so glad we took this tour!

Yelp
I went on the Notre Dame tour and the Montmartre tour, and both were quite good. The tour guides really knew their information, and they offered quite a bit of help too. Definitely recommend if you're in Paris to learn more about the city and to add some depth in how the city became to be.

Yelp
I did 3 of these tours while in Paris. Notre Dame (Charlotte), Montmartre (Quinton) and Paris Night Tour (Pierre). All were outstanding. The guides were engaging and well informed. The pace was good. 2 of the tours were free but we paid in advance for the night tour. Keep in mind that these are walking tours so they may be a little difficult if you have impaired mobility, but you can stop and head off on your own at anytime. We tipped $10 each for the free tours and tipped for the night tour as well. There were a few cheap asses who didn't tip at all. COME ON, these guys are working for tips and are well worth it. Crack out with the cash, you know you have to spend some money on vacation.

Yelp
I took the Marais walk while on a weekend layover here. Was very interesting and informative. Our guide was a local student born and raised in Paris. We had a small group of 8 to 10 people. Guide knew her stuff and led us into some pretty neat places that I would never have seen otherwise. You should come out of these tours having discovered some gems for eating shopping and drinking. Would definitely repeat. Perfect activity for solo travelers.

Yelp
Maelle and her pink vest was SO GREAT! She did a tour for us in Le Marais and it was so informative. We learned so much and she was worth for more than the $25 tip we gave her. What a perfect way to see Paris. I wish I would have had more time to take the other tours. I will be back and when I do, I will do Discovery Tours again.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
We have been on three walking tours with this company in Paris and have loved each one. The tour guides are friendly and informative and the information you get is better than what you would find in any tour book. I would highly recommend you take a walking tour with these guys and gals any time you have a chance!

Yelp
THIS is the tour to take! The fact that it's free is just the icing on the cake! Did the walk of Montmartre on a beautiful sunny afternoon. The guide was Oliver and he is a superb guide and just a good guy. He obviously enjoys what he does and likes to give little bits of interesting facts/tidbits about the French way of life. I have been to Paris many times before and was lovin this tour- not a pre-recorded dribble that many big cities push onto the tourists. Engaging and a great way to learn a bit about the city. Next time I'm back I will definitely take another tour with Discover Walks! Oh and PLZ do be generous with these guides- they are working for your tips =}

Yelp
Excellent concept - tour neighborhoods in Paris with a local guide. Our guide was so great - really well informed and super nice and happy. Expect to tip 10 euros at least.

Yelp
The Best Tour I had in Paris! I stumbled across the Discover Walks while on the Open Tour Bus (avoid) but lucky for me I found what I needed in Paris. The Guides (I took 2 - Loan and Eleonore) and both were incredibly informative and very knowledgeable and made it fun to learn about their great City and made my first trip to Paris much more interesting. I just wish I had found out about it before the day before I left to come back to the States! I was able to meet other traveler's that spoke English and we got a chance to share our experiences and new places to go during the tour. GO! The Best tour I took!
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
We did a tour at Notre Dame and we were overwhelmed by the knowledge and presentation of amazing facts by our guide! I highly recommend participating in these tours! Enjoy
google avatar

Natty H.

Yelp
Did 2 tours. Both were great! 1st one at Montmartre with Quentin..learned a lot. Had fun with stories! And 2nd tour was Paris Landmarks with Aloïs..also entertaining and thanks to her I had my 1st delicious macaroon! ^_^ My experience in Paris would not have been the same if I would not have taken these tours. Will return for more! I really think they should be tipped better! Hard work and effort! :)

Yelp
As part of my annual MBA reunion we had the pleasure of take three tours with the guys from DiscoverWalks. First tour with Alexandre around Notre Dame, second tour with Bertrand around the Opera and finally with Hervé around Montmatre. What shall I say: Amazing! Guys, if anyone of sees a guy/girl in a pink vest standing around, make sure you'll spend some time with the tour. Each tour is highly individual and entertaining. Not the usual throwing of dates and other facts but real interesting facts and hints (where to cut queues to the Louvre and other museums, get the best bread or icecream in Paris, etc.) Again, I can only repeat: The best tours I've seen in years. In particular Alexandre is outstanding! Go there, see them!

Yelp
We were just in paris over the weekend and went on the landmarks walking tour. They have 3 separate tours that are completly free!! it works on a tip basis, so you can pay what you like. We always go on a walking tour where ever we go in the world. This one was very good. It helped that Paris had so much to see and so much important history. Great tour, great guide. It was a shame we couldn't do the Notre dam or the Left bank tour

Boris N.

Yelp
This was incredible!!!! We had an amazing walking tour of Montmartre in Paris by an incredible guide Jean (a true Parisian). He gave us all the tips and tricks about surviving as a tourist in Paris. He told us about the history of the neighborhood, artists, and everything else. A+++. The trip is free but tip your guides well!!! 100% Genuine.
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
I've spent more than two months over the course of four visits in Paris and somehow never thought to do a walking tour. I'm so glad I finally caught on! Quentin was a great guide through the streets of the Latin Quarter, sharing interesting stories and bits of history. It was a great way to learn more about the city than by just walking solo or hopping on a bus. We put in some decent mileage without noticing but nothing too strenuous or fast paced. I'd recommend this tour for any age except perhaps young children. Looking forward to a few more tours this trip!

Yelp
My family and I were in Paris for Christmas and took the Paris Landmarks Tour with Eric. And I have mixed feelings. I wasn't sure if I should post this, but I believe in being honest with our reviews here on Yelp. At the beginning, Eric was super nice, knowledgeable, funny, courteous and informative. He would point out historical buildings and monuments as well best places to eat, drink and shop. However, in the middle of Tour, he began telling us that his employer or boss made him give $6 euros for each person who takes the Tour, so if we weren't planning on giving him a significant tip or any tip at all, it was better that we not take the group picture at the end, which in my opinion was very rude and unprofessional, especially because this is a tip based Tour. Additionally, at the end of the tour, Eric gave us the same speech about the tips. Also, I didn't like the fact that he was hurrying up everyone who was asking him questions and would see the money you gave him and if he didn't like the amount, he would make a negative face or comment. I had previously booked the Montmarte tour with him as well, but decided not to take it due to this negative experience.

Yelp
Just do it!!! It's cheap and you get so much info! Our guide was an art graduate and told us so much we wouldn't be able to figure out on our own. Even on a rainy day we had a great time.
google avatar

Kamal N.

Yelp
It was my third time in Paris when my travel partner stumbled along this tour company. I was apprehensive at first, thinking that the tour would be a memorized slew of information devoid of any slice of truth. I am happy to report that the Discover Walks tour of the Right Bank was quite the opposite. Our guide, Bertrand, was charming, informative, and energetic; but most importantly he was a real Parisian graciously revealing real hidden treasures within the city he really grew up in. In other words, if you crave a genuine human connection with both your tour guide and the city of Paris, I would highly recommend this company. At no point during the length of the tour (about 90 minutes) did I ever feel as if I were just another tourist to our guide. Having experienced both the New Europe and Discover Walks tour companies I can say with complete confidence that you will have a much more enjoyable, fulfilling experience with Discover Walks.)

Karl H.

Yelp
I went on the Montmartre Tour and it was a pleasant way to spend an early evening, wandering around one of the nicest parts of Paris. Marie was the tour guide and she was great, providing just the right amount of information and humour. I'd recommend this tour to any visitors to Paris.
google avatar

Adrian H.

Yelp
I worked in Paris during August and September 2010 and it wasn't until my parents came to visit that I went on the left bank tour. It was by far the most informative and entertaining walk I have been on, taking you to places that you probably wouldn't find otherwise - with great stories along the way too. The guides are very well educated and friendly, well worth it!
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Picture it-- we show up in front of Notre Dame on a skin-burning cold January afternoon. It has been snowing all morning and we are bundled up. Enter Bertrand - our cheerful, funny, enthusiastic tour guide who spends an hour and a half taking us through the Latin Quarter. I literally forgot about the cold because Bertrand was so engaging and interesting. The one caveat- there wasn't a ton of walking, at least on our tour - we did a lot of stopping in front of notable spots and hearing about history, so if you're expecting a good mile or two of walking, this might not be ideal. I have never ever been on a tour so good that folks are willing to stand outside in the snow to hear more. Oh, right, and it's free. I can imagine wanting to do many more of these- especially on warm days- on future trips to Paris.
google avatar

Yelp
The best free tour to partake while in Paris. Our guide Alex, a native Parisian was very knowledgeable, funny, and informative. We met at the Opera House and from there went to Rue de la Paix, Place Vendome, into the Jardin de Tuileries where we encountered gypsy children trying to hustle some tourists, then stopped in front of Place de la Concorde where we departed. The tour was a good 1.5 hrs. Well worth your time.

Jacquelyn P.

Yelp
A quick Google search on free walking tours of Paris brought up Discover Walks. As I walked up to Notre Dame for the first of what turned out to be five tours in three days, I discovered other free walking tour options. What makes Discover Walks stand out from their competition is the use of local guides. I had four different guides. Each shared their knowledge not just of the specific tour, but of Paris in general. I took notes and pictures during the tour and look forward to sharing more about them on my blog within the next month. Highly recommend.

Yelp
You have to do at least one of these when you're in Paris... I arrived in Paris on a Tuesday morning after an overnight flight from the U.S., and had to stay awake to go to business meetings in the afternoon. Fortunately, I'd found Discover Walks online a few days before my trip, and decided to do the Right Bank tour, since it was the closest one to my hotel and meetings. What a wonderful way to send the morning! The guide (unfortunately I can't remember his name!) was engaging, funny, and made a point of making everyone feel welcome. He pointed out little things that you would never find out on the large bus tours, and told stories of things from his childhood, such as playing soccer in one of the courtyards we walked through. It was also an excellent orientation to the city so that for the rest of my stay I always felt confident that I knew where I was, and could find my way around easily. The tour was over far too soon, and I would have loved to keep wandering around for hours!

Yelp
I was in Paris for the second time and I did enjoy my stay there much more than the first time - and a great part of this were because of the great tours with DISCOVERY WALKS!! We planned only one tour (Notre Dame with Kevi) during our 4 days stay, but it was soo great and funny and interesting with him and get to know all the stuff around the city and the stories about the parisian people, that we decided to attend more walks. So we attended our second walk with Cristian (Righ Bank) which were also just great and amazing. He did a great job and presented us Paris with a view only a "true born Parisian" could show us. And so, after two great and interesting walk we also took the tour with Anouk (Love, Murder, Money). So in my opinion is, that this idea to show Paris to tourists with true Parisian is great and an experience that I'll remember. Because they show you the spots aside of the hot spot 'sights', but take you behind, to the heart of Paris. THANK YOU SOO MUCH And I'll recommend Discovery Walks to all my friends, who will visit Paris, for sure!!

Sarah T.

Yelp
Wonderful friendly guides and throughly interesting tour. I am not a huge history fan however both times I went on a tour with Discover Walks I was informed and entertained by knowledgable students who live in the city. After the tour, they also give you so many helpful tips and recommend interesting places that are lesser known to tourists. The service is also free but you will want to tip them well at the end because they're great. I can't recommend them to enough people.

Anne H.

Yelp
In January we did the "Left Bank" tour in Paris. The tour was excellent!!! We recommend this for all! We were very excited about the knowledge of our guide and we heard a lot of history and everything. Especially we liked that the guide did it in his way and visited the places hes interested in. Thanks!

Kelli S.

Yelp
Both Kevi and Marine were knowledgeable, personable, and entertaining. We've been on many guided walking tours around the world and can say these are great tours with excellent guides!
