No visit to Dundee is complete without going to Discovery Point. It really is the most wonderful maritime museum, documenting the RRS Discovery expedition to the Antarctic in the early 20th century, led by Captain Robert Falcon Scott. The ship in drydock, currently having more conservation work done to her next to the museum where you can see it, is the final highlight of a marvellous historic journey. The long-term loan of the Hope Cross from South Georgia Museum is an emotional addition to an already amazing experience. To see that Memorial bridge the gap from the museum to the RRS Discovery itself - the first ship Sir Ernest Shackleton sailed to Antarctica on, is awe-inspiring. Every part of the museum has been well thought out and the hands on aspects for children (and us bigger kids) is cleverly done. The ships history after being retired as a research vessel then going on to carry cargo during the war before returning to her original use is beautifully represented at Discovery Point by artifacts, pictures, and film. The fact that the ship is still in a condition that enables us to see and even board her her is down to the restoration by the Maritime Trust, the dedication of the team at Discovery Point and the conservation that continues led by the Dundee Heritage Trust. Not to be missed
