"Why did this hotel catch your attention? What's the vibe?Perhaps this resort is Disney for people who don’t like Disney, or at least the crowds, expenses, and relentless merchandising present at their theme parks. This lodge-themed retreat isn’t attached to any theme parks—the nearest one is a five-hour drive away—and is a more traditional resort, albeit one with its own water slide and a more family-focused approach than many Hilton Head resorts. What's the backstory? The property was developed on the 15-acre island of Shelter Cove Harbor, and it opened in 1996. It was intentionally marketed towards families with young children and its hunting and fishing lodge aesthetic, while not reflecting any specific Disney movies, is in line with the slightly kitsch design of many of the company’s resorts. It has the feeling of a high-end summer camp. Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book? The rooms are true to the hunting lodge style, with bed headboards and lamp stands made out of materials resembling tree stumps and the like, so it maintains a fun, rustic ambience. My deluxe studio was an entry-level accommodation, with the green and blue color palate that all of the rooms employed to reflect the natural themes of the resort. The set up is fairly basic but perfectly presentable and for families, the functionality will be much more welcome than fancy tech, especially the small balcony/patio, dining table and kitchenette in the slightly larger rooms. There’s a shower/tub combo, and the room can sleep a family of four comfortably. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi?The wifi is free and seemed to hold up across most of the resort. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at?There are two family-friendly dining options at the resort, both of which operate seasonally, so be sure to check before making your booking. Signals is more of a sit down restaurant/cafe and Tide Me Over is a quick pitstop with a few picnic tables. Both have breakfast and lunch options with all the typical dishes that children might enjoy, including burgers, pizza, pasta, and salads. Grilled fish and sweet potato fries make up the more sophisticated end of the menu. There are ‘seasonal’ dinner services, but outside of this, evening options are limited to self catering or going to one of the dozens of restaurants that are close to the resort. And the service?Service, as you might expect from a Disney property, is cheery and perky, with the staff well-drilled at handling the specific requirements of families with young children and seemingly endless reserves of patience. Orienting and situating new guests has been honed to a fine art, and the activities and general levels of service are well-supervised and helpful. What type of travelers will you find here? The guests seemed to consist entirely of families, which is not surprising and is what the resort was designed for. It feels slightly less manic than resorts at Disney theme parks, perhaps as the stresses and tiredness levels associated with visiting these parks has been removed, letting families experience a different energy. Activities are on site or at the beach via a short shuttle, and so it just seemed generally more chilled out. What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, make itself part of the scene?Although on its own island, the resort is just over a mile from the beach. However, Disney has its own facility that’s essentially an annex to the hotel (called Disney’s Beach House) where you can rent beach gear such as umbrellas and chairs, relax in the lounge, and there are even indoor games if the weather’s bad. The Beach House also has its own pool. Is there anything you'd change?A year-round option for onsite evening dining would be a good addition, though there are several options within easy striking distance. Any other hotel features worth noting? There are two pools on site, one for very young children and one for older kids, the latter coming with water-park-like amenities such as a water slide and fountains. The resort also organizes lots of child-friendly activities, such as fishing and crabbing, campfires and movie showings. There’s also the option of bike rentals, guided nature walks, dolphin spotting, golf and tennis and there’s also a fitness center as well as a large hall for games and crafting. Bottom line: Worth it? Why?There are some fine resorts in Hilton Head but not too many of them focus on families and small children, and so this Disney outpost is a welcome addition to the available options. Parents will find the place secure and their children well looked after, and though dining is slightly limited, the activities and beachside annex will also be appreciated." - Paul Oswell

Always a great experience at a Disney Resort and Hilton Head Island is no exception. Great rooms, the resort is beautiful with plenty of access to food, shopping and recreation. The Beach House adds a lot of value here, Disney did a great job giving us a 1 stop shop vacation destination for sun and fun. Beautiful grounds, the pool was great and perfect for the kids. Lots of sight seeing and activities around. Each room section has its own activity, grill and hammock area to use. The beach house offers a café, bar, pool and plenty of off-beach relaxation, with easy access to fun in the sand and sun. You can't go wrong staying here, absolutely fantastic.

We love the HHI Disney resort and property. It’s such a beautiful property with a relaxed atmosphere. My family loves that you can get dole whips and souvenir mugs for drinks.the kids enjoyed renting bikes for our stay to enjoy the whole Disney Island. Fun family vacation!

We visited this resort last week and loved every minute. We have been DVC members since 2012. We’ve never been big Mickey Mouse people but we love the resorts and we love the way we are treated at every resort we stay. I didn’t even know this resort existed but we wanted to visit HHI and saw this resort. We used our DVC points for the 5 day stay. It is a great little resort. Our room (2 bedroom suite) was perfect. It looks like they just renovated much of the grounds and many of the rooms. The pool was nice but we spent the majority of our time at Disneys Beach House which is a 10 min bike or car ride. It’s literally across the street in the Palmetto Dunes resort area. Easy bike ride. We chose not to drive due to limited parking. The Beach House is great. Awesome beach access, great pool, really good food and a very nice bar. It doesn’t get too crowded (at least the week we were there). We spent a lot of time at the beach and would wind up at the pool around 2. At 230/3pm it seemed to dramatically drop off and we had the whole place to ourselves until 5p. We had an awesome experience and would def recommend.

Google
I want to give this 4.53 out of 5. The outside of the buildings are dated & the pool near our building, 25, is small. Those are the only negative. The room is great, there are plenty of activities for the family to keep kids entertained. Dining is limited with just one quick service restaurant, but not a huge deal. Overall, it’s nice & we would definitely consider coming back!

Want a seclusive get-away? Love the low country life? Want to relax in nature, but have all the modern amenities including dining and tourist adventures? Want access to your own "private" beach house, pool, and beach front? Then this is the place for you, your family, or friends! Rooms available for small groups in a deluxe studio (4) up to parties of 12 (Grand Villa). Property has several grilling stations to cook your favorite meals. So much to see and do just at the resort. If you enjoy/love being immersed in nature, then you will definitely feel right at home.

Google
The resort is absolutely beautiful, and the staff is incredible—just like the friendly, helpful cast members you'd expect at Disney World. There's so much to do on the island, from outdoor adventures to relaxing by the beach. The resort itself is lush and well-maintained, with delicious food and plenty of recreational activities. We loved our stay and are already looking forward to coming back for many more days in the future!

Google
This was my first time here and I can’t say anything bad about the resort. The staff were very friendly. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The pool area is kept up very well. The music at the pool tends to get a little loud, but it only lasts for a while. It would be nice if there was a full service restaurant, but the small snack area they have is reasonably priced and has decent options.

We had an excellent week at Disney’s HHI resort. This was our 10th annual trip and it never disappoints. My kids enjoy the Big Dipper Pool and the slide as well as the beach and beach house pool. We usually spend the whole trip bouncing between venues. The resort recently underwent renovations and the decor is beautiful. Highlights this trip: 1) Henry, the lifeguard, engaged the children when he wasn’t in charge watching the pool and really got in and played with them. We haven’t encountered this before! 2) The 3pm warm cookies at the lodge. 3) The Paloma! So delicious, I have to find the Disney recipe.

Yelp
I love this little Disney resort! The last time I was here, I was a little kid, but as an adult it's just as fun. The newly renovated villas are beautiful and so comfortable. We were visiting with a big group and were placed in a villa right above the rest of our party, right next to the "Big Dipper" pool area. While Hilton Head is a much more chill and relaxing vacation than a typical Disney theme park trip, the level of "Disney service" was as good if not better than that of the theme park area resorts. Almost everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful, and it was a blast to hang out by the pool at the main resort and at the beach house. Pro-tip: there's a free photo booth in the indoor area by the beach house pool, so definitely take advantage of that to get some fun souvenir photo strips to take home. I do wish there were more food options here--it would be great if there was a table service restaurant here. Also, the only vegetarian option for quick service was a Beyond Burger, which I'm not into. But there are plenty of food options around the island, so just plan to go off-site or stock up your villa kitchen for your meals.

Yelp
Welcome Home (away from home)! Great DVC property - Mallory, Michael, Justin, Hagan, Haylee, Liz, Maureen & Jeff are just some of the names that come to mind from this stay. Great cast members who help make a magical stay time & time again. We'll be back soon for our annual fun trip to Hilton Head & Disney's Hilton Head Resort.

Yelp
This is such a relaxing place to stay. The pools are great, the beach is beautiful. The only downfall is there is no sit down restaurant. Other than that you can rent bikes, fishing equipment. There activities all around the hotel. You are right by he harbor and there is a bit of shopping and places to eat near by. I booked another stay.

Yelp
We stopped here with our kids for one night while we were on vacation to Savannah, GA. We loved our room. It had plenty of room for us to all spread out. We loved swimming in the pool and also the hot tub. The gift shop was small but the kids got to pick out a few things. The place wasn't very crowded which was nice because I know it's part of the Disney Vacation Club. We loved our stay and just wished it was longer.

Yelp
We returned again this year for a week's stay during the month of October. The pumpkins outside the check-in area was a nice, decorative Fall feature. Gone is the doghouse in the little green area outside the main check-in entrance. There did not appear to be any changes made to the resort from our visit last year. No new decor in the rooms. No additional ice machine(s) installed, so again a single ice machine to support the entire resort and not conveniently located. We had to get in our car and go fill up a cooler to have ice in our room. Still only 2 washers and 2 dryers for use for those staying in studio rooms. And the hot tub was on the blitz coming on for maybe 3-5 minutes at a time and then cutting off. The issue was reported every day but not fixed. We never saw any Disney characters out and about to greet guests. Our TV had intermittent signal issues throughout our stay and others at the pool commented on having the same issue with TV signals. We love the area and there are so many things to do on Hilton Head Island that honestly, we leave the resort frequently to do other things, however we really would like to see general amenities enhanced at the resort. It just feels very run down. In fact, the towel hook next to our shower fell off the wall, and our feet got dirty from walking on the carpet barefoot after we had showered. I'm sure we'll be back again next year because we love the area, but I hope maybe next year we will see an additional ice machine or two added to the resort as well as maybe another washer/dryer area added on the opposite end of the resort for increased convenience and availability to the guests.

Yelp
Beautiful grounds for sure. Our 2 bedroom could use some updating and major cleaning but we look past that. Beware that there is no elevator so you will be lugging your stuff up and down. If you're looking for a FAMILY resort this may not be it due to no rules on what people can wear at the pools. Absolutely disgusting. I don't need to see nipples and as*. I would hope Disney isn't okay with it but after expressing our concern we were told there is nothing they can do. Sad we had to leave the pool due to this and now just sitting in our room. $800 a night to sit. Wouldn't come back until there's a better dress code. You enforce at the parks, you absolutely should be enforcing at a Family friendly (????) hotel. Don't be fooled thinking this is a beach hotel. It's not. If you want to go to the beach you will take a shuttle or drive.

Yelp
350 miles from home, this is the closest disney property to my house. In just under 6 hours (traffic pending), this place can be such a great weekend getaway, no matter the time of the year (I do assume though in the summer months it gets hellacious). On my most recent visit (it had been about 2 years since my last) was right before Christmas, so I got to see this place all dolled up, which is always fun (pro tip, I don't think anybody does Christmas better than Disney). Since I came in straight from work (and I had a few days to burn), I decided to make a mini trip spending a night in Hilton Head, a night in Vero, and a night in Disney World (call it a large circle trip). I did my online check in before hand, so when I got there, it made things go by even quicker. Also, at the time of staying here on most recent visit- masks are required on all indoor public areas (this is true for all Disney properties at the moment). Another thing, MagicBands (which are currently exclusive to Disney World), do not work here- but that doesn't mean you can't show them off! This resort is on its own island, which is really cool, and away from the beach, but moreso on the inland, with some marshes- which is a nice change. Don't worry, they have a private beach house (across the street) in a gated area that you can either walk, drive, take the shuttle, or rent a bike to get there. Its called Disney's Beach House and you can only access it if you are staying on the property during that time. Back to the main property, there are studios, 1BR, 2BR, and 3BR villas scattered throughout. There is only one elevator on property, so if you have trouble going up stairs (the buildings are 2 stories that are higher off the ground in case of flooding), note that before when you make a reservation. The theme here is woodsy. I know the large pool in the center of the property may change that, but for the most part, the theme fits in well. There is also no full service restaurant here, so for food, plan ahead (I went to Sam's Club before coming in). Thankfully, there is a Kroger and Whole Foods right outside the property, and plenty of restaurants you can walk to across the bridge (less than a 5 min walk). They do have a gift shop with your basic food needs, and a quick serve restaurant (good for breakfast and lunch)- but expect Disney prices. In terms of the actual rooms- I usually stay in a 2br villa here (it seems to be the most available when I book). They sleep 8 people comfortably, and comes with 2BRs (the master bathroom comes with an extra area with another sink and the shower for guests staying in the dining room couchbed. The second room has 2 queens, and its own bathroom. The kitchen, is fully stocked (with a balcony), and a mini foyer with a laundry area as well (biggest difference between a villa and the studio is the full kitchen, the extra tv, and the laundry, and the extra sofa bed). The property mascot is Shadow, a seemingly golden irish retriever. What a sweet pup, but always so elusive! Only seen it on one visit, but such a sweet pup! This place can get pricey, as you can pay cash or use your disney points. If you know somebody in the Disney Vacation Club that has points to burn, see if they are nice enough to let you use them, before you spend your money. This property does have some of the lower points values across disney- making it a popular destination. I had seen a few comments about this place not being upgraded- it actually is not too terribly dated- except for the hot tubs in the villas- but I actually prefer those to the new soaking tubs they have been installing throughout disney- almost twice the size! Anyways, this place is always a great place to come relax to, especially when I need a quick disney fix. Definitely a unique disney property!

Yelp
I'm a DVC member, so when my husband and I planned out our May 2022 Carolina Road Trip, I of course wanted to stay at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort. My reservation was initially waitlisted, but right at that 7-day cut-off mark, my studio reservation went through. The resort is in a gated area and felt secluded and safe. The location is serene and allows you to be close to nature. The staff, similarly, to all Disney resorts are beyond courteous and friendly. The resort does a nice job with its hunting and fishing lodge theme, but the room felt a little dated in comparison to other DVC resorts and ours had a sort of musky smell to it. The studio had a view of the marsh from the balcony and was equipped with a microwave, mini-fridge, and disposable plates and utensils. There is a small waterslide at the pool and in my opinion, slightly better than the waterslide at Disney's Grand Californian. There were a few onsite activities offered and we had a fun time playing Name That Tune! The private beach house is a short drive away from the main resort and gives access to the Atlantic Ocean. The sand at the beach was incredibly fine, soft, and hard-packed, and there was a tone of helmet crab shells washed up along the shore. The resort has "just a touch of Disney," so aside from a few topiary sculptures, the Disney music playing in the background, a small Disney gifts shop, and a dole whip machine it is somewhat easy to forget that you're staying at a Disney resort. We didn't run into a lot of people during our stay, and the resort was quiet and relaxing. It's a drastic comparison to Disney's Aulani, where despite not being located at one of the parks you can't forget it's a Disney Resort (character dining/pictures, mickey shaped shaved ice, etc.) and there are kids running around everywhere. Our stay at Disney's HH Island Resort was enjoyable overall. I'm glad I had a chance to stay there, but it likely wouldn't be my first choice in the future.

Yelp
Pool is supposed to be heated but is freezing everyday. We complained and they swear the heater is on at 84 degrees. Everything closes at 4:00 and 5:00 pm. Can't get food nor drinks at the pool. No bar available. They have a great beach house but food and drinks shut down there at 4:00 pm even though the sun is up until 8:00pm. They have some fun Crafts and dolphin tours but don't expect to do anything after 5:00pm. Overall if you want to stay at Disney on the beach go to Vero Beach in Florida. The worst part is they don't even seem to care here that you are dissatisfied. Almost everything we did that was fun we had to plan ourselves and do off property. Disney COVID is over quit running this place like you have no staffing and have to close everything, Update to my original review. They adjusted the pool temp. We also got some pixie dust left for us and a note of apology for the pool temperature. It really went a long way in making us feel like they do care here. Gave them an extra star because of it.

Jessica G.

Yelp
Great friendly staff but the resort is outdated, dirty rooms and is just very old, overly priced for those paying out of pocket. I really don't get the hyped the only way to enjoy is to leave all day and find activities outside of the resort.

Becca O.

Yelp
We have been DVC members since 2002 and have spent 4 total visits to this resort. Disney makes you feel right at home, they focus on cleanliness and friendliness. It's a great place for kids and for adults alike. Since our first trip, the rooms have been renewed but collectively as a group, my family agrees it needs renovated. The couch and chair in the living room are both pull-outs allowing for additional sleeping arrangements but the couch/chair themselves are horribly uncomfortable. The cushions slip off constantly and we eventually moved the dining chairs and rocking chairs inside for more comfortable seating. Wi-Fi is unfortunately slow; it works to an extent but if I had school work to complete on my computer, it's unlikely I could have done much on the downloading speeds available, so remote workers be wary! The kitchen layout isn't the best, but it's decent for a "hotel kitchen." We do a lot of cooking to cut down on costs with a family of 6, so it wasn't exactly easy with limited supplies and kitchen space. Okay let's get in to the good stuff. The resort itself is beautiful and private with gated entry and the fact it is it's own island! The resort lies on the sound side so it is quiet and beautiful throughout the day and night. It is across from a small shopping/dining center that is walkable. At the marina there are many options for renting watercraft like kayaks and paddle boards. In the past we have also gone parasailing out of the marina. Shelter Cove (the neighborhood) is beautiful and has expanded in the years we've visited; the resort is close to Kroger and Whole Foods at the shopping center just down the slip road (so you don't have to go onto the main highway). There are also large stores and restaurants there as well. Everything you need for vacation is right nearby. We cannot say enough about the private Beach House in Palmetto Dunes. The beach and pool at the house are our favorite places to be. It's easy to bounce between the pool and the beach. The beach house has multiple showers for rinsing off sand and cooling off. The beach house also has a bar and restaurant for guests making midday snacking and meals a breeze for beach goers. We doesn't 80% of our days at the beach house. Only downside is limited parking spaces, however, Disney does offer a shuttle service from the resort to the beach house which runs continuously throughout the day. The Disney spirit is alive and well, the cast members truly take care of you during your stay. While I have some notes on improvements needed, we still give 5 stars because we've been membership holders so long and nobody does it like Disney, we would know ;)

Kevin G.

Yelp
Thankful for my Aunt and that she's such a huge Disney lover (and travel consultant). She booked a 2 bedroom villa for my son and I in Hilton Head. Wasn't sure how it was going to go but honestly thankful it wasn't overly Disney-like for my son and I. However the Disney service level was present. You cross over a bridge onto the resort and check-in. The ladies at the front were very nice, and I had a long conversation with them. Lots of useful tips there and additional maps on spots. They do require that you wear a mask at all times when outside on property (you can take the mask off once you cross the bridge though). The pool area is the only area where the mask is allowed off and they keep the entrances shut so you know the mask on and mask off points. The villa we stayed in was HUGE! Way too big for 2 people. King size bed and jacuzzi in the Master with porch access, along with a separate shower and two sink areas. The other bedroom had two full beds. I loved the mud room area walking in, and the setup of the kitchen/living room (living room has a sleeper couch). My favorite part was the little breakfast nook area, with a round table and comfy cushion seats. Full service kitchen has everything you need: utensils, cookware, glasses (wine/liquor/regular/coffee), fridge, toaster, coffee maker, microwave, dishwasher, oven PLUS comes equipped with dish detergent, cloths, coffee, dishwasher detergent and cleaners. There is a laundry area with washer/dryer and detergent. The patio area we had had two rockers and a small bench table that overlooks the wetlands area. Very nice view! The pool area is amazing and has a fun water slide, hot tub and access to drinks/food upstairs. It only gets 5 feet deep too and there's a lifeguard. Upstairs you can grab food/drinks and check out events going on. They also have their community room for crafts and a fitness center. The fitness center has a bench, free weights, pulley machine (which is missing a clip, they need to get another), two treadmills and an elliptical. It'll suffice to get a workout in. Not a fan of the treadmills facing a boring wall. The bathroom here has a sauna and shower. Parking is a little tight here, so keep that in mind. The outside area has quite a few cushioned hammocks, a playground, a mini theater area, putt-putt greens and walking paths. Loved the luggage carts, very easy roll and you can throw everything on them. The food was odd. One day I did a turkey sandwich meal for my son and he got a lot. The next day I ordered him Mickey Waffles and they charged me $9.99 when it said $5.99 on the menu. My margarita I ordered wasn't that strong either and was pricey. So I'm just eh on it. Oh, I MUST add, if you stay here then you have access to the Disney Beach House across the street (ok, it's like a 1.5 mile drive but it is across the street)! That was awesome, even though we didn't even step foot inside it. Easy access parking to get to the boardwalk, which has convenient access to the beach. You'll need your parking permit to get through the gate. They have beach chairs and umbrellas to rent, but we brought our own. There is a showering area outside flanking the side of the parking deck plus a picnic area there too. LOVED IT! Too bad we didn't see the beach house. I'm not sure what my aunt paid but this property was excellent! I would easily do it again with more people. Keep in mind the water here isn't clear but the beaches are decent. You have easy access to restaurants and live music right across the bridge too. Highly recommend staying here! Bring lots of people though!

Yelp
Always a pleasure. Our home away from home. We got a Marsh view this time and it was perfect.

Cesca T.

Yelp
This was our first time staying at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, and our second time in Hilton Head, overall. We had planned for just one night, as a stopover on our way back home, but it was so lovely, the room so nicely appointed, spacious, with such a great view, and such a friendly atmosphere that we decided to stay an extra night. We were that impressed. I had heard really great things about this particular DVC resort, and now I see why. It really is such a relaxing, and beautiful place. It is situated on the marsh side, which at first, thought might not be so scenic, but we have such a lovely view of the harbor from our ballroom-sized balcony. The rooms looked fresh and updated, but still had a casual southern seaside charm. It was clean, and incredibly big. And it was just a deluxe studio. There was room for all of our luggage, which was ample. The multiple pools were great, the staff very friendly and welcoming, in a real way. And not in that it's just their job way. They seemed like they really enjoyed their work. And it shined through. And the beach house was wonderful. A nautical, comfortable feel, and of course just an expansive stretch of open ocean. Which is hard to compete with in terms of beauty. I highly recommend this resort.

Mike A.

Yelp
I'll be frank, I'm not a Disney fan. I don't like the rides or lines or anything like that. Which is why I had so much fun here with the low key tone and atmosphere. The service and staff is excellent and very accommodating. The pools and hot tub are great, as is the beach. It's a nice relaxing vacation with as little or as much as you want to do at your disposal. We were sorrounded by many excellent restaurants and never had one bad meal. You also get ten percent off at a bunch of places if you show them your room card. The rooms are spacious and clean with some great amenities. The gym is on the small side but is full of a nice selection of equipment and weights which would make most people happy. We rented free movies every night from the general store to watch before bed and also played games for fun. They have a pool table, half basketball court, Corn hole, bocce, shuffle board, and a few other fun things to do. Not to mention the free cookies, coffee and lemonade in the lobby. Beautiful scenery around the harbor and pier. What a great relaxing vacation!

Yelp
I'm going to write this review but I have to set the scene. Picture a golf cart, in the front seat I have my Yelp buddy Jason C who is a Disney Vacation Club owner and in the back seat, some suit from Disney. The resort has a bunch of nice folks working there who are proud of this place. This review is not a slight against them, its more towards shaming Disney and to make aware to other DVC owners. I own a few Disney property interests, one of them is Disney's Vero Beach resort. The Vero Beach hotel is pristine and filled with nice Disney touches. When you check in, there is a commanding view of the Atlantic ocean. The salty air along with the views, Disney Vero Beach is intoxicating. Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort is not. Lets get this review started: Rolling up in the golf cart with Jason, the small bridge is quaint. Once I push the button to allow access, there is a dude waving us up to the second floor to check in. He's wearing a 4 fingered Mickey hand. Jason and I laugh. The Disney guy says nothing. Walking up to the second floor (There is an elevator as well) I'm handed an old Disney credit card key. I ask, what about my magic band from The Boardwalk? We don't have that technology sir. (Jason snickers, suit is taking notes) The hotel lobby looks like an old post office. They have free hot cider and a small room with a TV and pool table. I want to get my luggage to my room. The hotel layout, if I have to compare to a similar Disney hotel it would be a run down Pop Century. Once inside the room, it is a big W.T.F. The rugs are shot, the couch is shot, the view has a overgrown tree blocking the view of the water. The deck has some old furniture. Jason looks around and says What the F? Disney suit taking notes says nothing. I start walking around the property, there is a small wooden deck trail to take you to the marshland. The marshland walk is very cool, the views are amazing. I'll give the hotel that, amazing views. Disney suit is beaming with pride. We turn around and say shut up suit! Where is the beach?? There is a shuttle that runs every 1/2 hour or you can walk it, its a little over a mile. Just follow the signs, there is no need to cross the highway. Guess what? There are no signs pointing to the underground path! Once I ask around, I find the path. This walk had to be 2 1/2 miles. Once we cross the street to the Disney Beach house, there is the beach. Man is it beautiful. We walk back to the house, the pool is small and run down but a sunny spot. I'm ready to leave, once outside there is no shuttle bus. I pick up the phone and the shuttle driver is there within 5 minutes. Once back at the hotel, I start looking around. There is huge sign on a wall that says "Esso". How is that Disney?? There are no Disney touches anywhere. The stairs from the 3rd floor to the 2nd floor has wood with stamping on it, all these little touches are so not Disney. Now its time to eat, there is nothing on property. Everything is off site. I went to the small market place, there is nothing to write about except the nice view. Once back in the room, the remote isn't working. I go to the front desk and ask for batteries. I'm told there are no batteries here, I'll send house keeping to your room. Once housekeeping come with a new remote, it doesn't work. The person says, your not aiming it right. You have to tilt the remote to the side and aim it close to the right corner. Jason now snaps, Get the F out of here! I'm cracking up and the Disney rep took the golf cart and left the property. I'm talking to a young mother at the pool. I told her I just left The Boardwalk Hotel and drove straight here. She tells me one day she'll get to Disney, for right now this visit is her family vacation. And that's the sin, this is not a quality Disney hotel. If a character comes out to see the kids, its nice but it's not Disney. For years, we've always talked about this resort. Now that I experienced everything, I can honestly say I will never return. There are too many things to overcome. I'm on vacation, I don't want to be in a room with old furniture and a resort that I need to wait for a shuttle. Disney Vero Beach is beach resort. I don't want to be in Disney hotel with an Esso sign. *Corporate Disney, you need to invest in this place or sell it because it's not representing the brand properly.

Yelp
For the past ten years, it has become tradition for us to come to Hilton Head for Easter. Just like you would expect, service is on point, there are great pool activities, as well as many other onsite activities some of which you must sign up beforehand and/or pay. One of my favorite things about this resort is during check-in time they have a table with fresh baked cookies and lemonade. My kids love going by there to check in time to grab a treat. There are several restaurants within walking distance as well as some shops. They also have a shuttle that will take you to their beach across the street. I do think that it is time for the rooms to be renovated but other than that this is a great family resort.

Rathvon M.

Yelp
Our family has spent several vacations at this resort. The accommodations, staff, pools, food.....everything....is perfect. This is what you would expect from Disney. This is a comfortable place to recharge your batteries while experiencing some Disney magic. When my children were younger, they were thrilled with the resort activities that include pool parties, pool games, campfires and those chance meetings with the resort mascot; a Golden Retriever named "Shadow". We stayed there a few weeks ago and my grown children are still excited to see Shadow. The Disney Vacation Club was probably one of the best investments we ever made. We have used it for vacations to Hilton Head, as well as other Disney resorts. I always look forward to returning to this resort, not only because I know I am going to have a wonderful vacation, but because it holds some of our best family memories. If you have the chance to stay at Disney's Hilton Head Resort, take it. You won't regret it.

Yelp
The staff and the overall property, location and amenities are terrific but the rooms are less than stellar. I am a Disney vacation club member and have been to several of the DVC properties including Au'lani in Hawaii, Grand Californian ay Disneyland and Saratoga Springs in Florida. First of all the main living room configuration is very odd with the TV on the back of a very tall island that's skinny and completely cuts off the room. This weird island leaves a small aisle in the kitchen area and an almost non functional very narrow work space. The living area is small compared to other dvc properties. I would have gladly given up part of the huge bathroom for more space in the living room. The couches were old and dirty and worn out, the kitchen chairs really didn't fit at the table correctly and they were all scratched and worn. The master bath tub was chipped and there was poorly applied caulk applied around it. The refrigerator and dishwasher were dinged and the cabinets weren't cleaned properly prior to our arrival. The bedrooms were nice sized and the beds including the pull outs were very comfortable. The bedroom furniture were all ok. The noise inside from the family above was also out of control. It sounded like a herd of elephants above us. Also the sound of the washing machine and dryer was crazy loud especially at 1am! Overall not what I have come to expect from Disney. On the flip side, the staff were amazing. Michelle our curly haired super friendly member of the housekeeping staff was friendly and accomodating and checked on us several times. Michelle at broad creek was so great in getting our bikes and my boys ser up for the New Years party. Many other staff members were also incredible to deal with.

Cole M.

Yelp
The staff is so amazing! We have been coming here for about 10 years now and will not hesitate to come again. Staff each year is awesome. They are always nice and try to remember us year after year and you can become good friends with them! The rooms are awesome. Very spacious and very comfortable. It is very relaxing on the island and a great vacation from work! I will 100% recommend this to anyone who wants an amazing trip! Hope this review helps your decision! Maybe see you there!

Yelp
Well I've only been here for one night and I can already tell you how unimpressed I am with this resort. And maybe that will change in the next three days (but it's not likely) I've stayed at multiple DVC resorts, my family has been DVC members since '94 and this place just doesn't stack up to any of the others (including Vero Beach, which hands down, puts Hilton Head to shame.) The rooms, albeit updated, the furnishings are old, worn and uncomfortable. The room as a whole doesn't really feel clean (judging from my children's black socks, it's not). We can hear every noise, Movement and sneeze from our upstairs neighbors. The floor literally squeaks where they walk. I haven't ventured out into the resort yet, so I can't speak on any of the amenities, just on the room itself. Staff has been friendly, but the resort doesn't seem really full (although I could be wrong). Plus side it the view from our room is nice.

Laurie D.

Yelp
The hotel and rooms were much nicer than it looked online. The two bedroom Suite was perfect for our family giving us space and ability to cook in the room. During Covid it was booked but never felt super crowded. We only ate at the hotel restaurants once and it was ok. There were some disappointments during Covid that we were not aware of like Shadow not being there, the playground being closed, the Mickey topiary wasn't there. The staff was all very friendly especially the ladies at the merchantile who gave my daughter stickers, pins, and a card. This was really the most "Disney" it got as I thought there would be more things for my daughter to see. We went to the beach house a lot. It was nice to have that option. It was not super crowded and the beach was great on both cloudy and sunny days Good experience overall

Jayson M.

Yelp
We stayed here and I would warn you not to. There is a manager named Connie that is just awful. She is rude, unhelpful and I felt she was racist. I would not stay there as long as she is working here. It's relay hard to avoid her as we caught her following us around and acting strange. Beware!

Mary S.

Yelp
Nice rooms, friendly service (as expected at Disney) the mercantile is fully stocked. My 1.5 year old loved the playground and so did we! Beautiful views and restaurants with in walking distance. The one negative is the TV placement. It is bolted down so that's good, but my toddler had her face right up against the TV anytime it was in. Other than that we had a wonderful stay and will be back!

Erin N.

Yelp
Rustic, peaceful, lots of trees and nature. If you're looking for the typical "Disney" experience, this is not the place for you, but if you're looking for a family getaway in a serene woodsy setting with tons of recreational activities and that magic of detail that only Disney can provide then this is the perfect place for you. There are no rides or crowded themed restaurants, but lots of places to explore and find your own adventure, and best of all, the most friendly golden retriever named Shadow lives there with her friend B'lou Crabbe. B'lou is a local entertainer who will delight you with stories and folk songs while Shadow makes friends with everyone. Again, not your typical Disney experience, but a much different type of magical one. I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Writing this in the master bed of our villa on our last night. My father is a DVC member and when our honeymoon got cancelled twice because of COVID-19 we decided to come here. We stayed in the 2 bed villa (super similar to the Boardwalk Hotel villas). The place was spotless and had all the remotes wrapped in plastic with little stickers saying "cleaned" on them. Very nice deck to hangout on. The kitchen truly is fully loaded with everything you need (except a pizza cutter, no biggie). The Big Dipper pool was a nice place to have some drinks and stay on the property. The Beach House, about a mile away, was private and well heated. We are here in January so the food and drinks weren't available. Nice walkout to the ocean. As with all Disney hotels the service was impeccable. We opted out for room service due to the pandemic but they still came by for our trash when needed. No issue with parking, again, here in off season though. We will be back.

Kelli D.

Yelp
one of my favorite places on HHI. it's a great atmosphere with a mix of Disney + low country life. To top it off they have mickey bars and dole whips at the beach house right in Palmetto Dunes. The resort itself is a super cute camp feel with tons of hammocks and bike trails. On certain nights, they do Disney movies outside. They have a huge campfire area and a long pier to look for crabs on. It's perfect.

Chris D.

Yelp
Exactly what you expect from a Disney experience! Beautiful facilities that are immaculately maintained. The shuttle service to the beach is quick and friendly. My kids are still talking about how much fun they had at the pool. My family of 7 couldn't have been happier. The only 2 negative comment that I have are that parking is a little tough and we were awakened several times by the vacactioners above us. The ceiling "leaked" a lot of noise as our neighbors walked around upstairs. Overall it was a great vacation experience.

Yelp
I just returned from a family vacation at the Disney Resort. My brother and SIL have a Disney timeshare and decided that due to COVID they didn't want to take 3 children to the parks in Orlando. The resort was like any other Disney hotel, a little on the outdated side and nothing special when it came to the actual room. Everything is an extra charge including bikes and beach chairs (I was shocked at this as I have never paid for these amenities at any resorts I have visited). Prior to arriving at the resort, my SIL had notified the resort that my father had recently had a knee replacement and could not walk very far or climb steps. She also told them we needed to be near a handicapped parking space for him. She was assures that we would be close to an elevator and in a room in good proximity to everything he would want to walk to. When we arrived we were placed in building 14. There was no elevator (not really sure any buildings had elevators) so not sure why she was told we would be near one. Our building had 0 handicapped parking spaces and very few spaces at all unless you drive an electric vehicle. We were as far as you could possibly be from the pool, food, etc. I basically spent the week driving him around the resort in my car and then trying to find parking. There were tons of handicapped spots on the opposite side of the resort. When we got to the room there were crackers on the floor. We called the desk to ask if the room was cleaned. We were told they would send someone but they never did. It was also frustrating that the resort seemed to be at max capacity yet pool areas were all reduced capacity due to COVID. That made it difficult to go to the pool as you had to have a chair to use the pool. I was also shocked at how few sanitizer stations were throughout the resort. I have been to 4 Marriott's since the start of the pandemic and the COVID protocol was much better at each of those resorts. I personally would not choose to visit a Disney Resort again as you get a much better value for your money elsewhere.

Yelp
This place is super difficult to book even in the off season but we are so glad we snagged a spot for a weekend road trip. While this Disney resort does not have "characters" or rides it has a lot to do for everyone. It's truly a family friendly resort and they keep you busy too if you want activities to do. The pool is heated and there's a hot tub too for cold nights. We booked a deluxe studio overlooking the water. Our room was inside the welcome lodge which was great. There was covered parking below our room as well. The room was very spacious, plenty of room for our family of 3. The room also had a small kitchenette equipped with a microwave, sink, and small fridge. The balcony overlooking the water was a real treat to watch the sunrise over the marina and was a real treat for our trip. On the resort there was a quick service restaurant with standard Disney fare. We were also pleasantly surprised with the gift shop, they carry wine and beer too. Blu and Shadow are the entertainment on the property and do meet and greets several times a week. Shadow is super friendly. The resort is not pet friendly though, only service dogs allowed. There is also a beautiful beach house 1.5 miles away via a short drive in your vehicle or taking the shuttle that runs throughout the day every 20 minutes. We loved hanging out at the beach house! It was gorgeous and just a small walk down to the ocean. We can't wait to return again soon!

Nancy M.

Yelp
Our two bedroom villa was fantatsic with plenty of room for four adults. Could have easily accommodated two more. Bedding was a king, two queens, surprisingly comfortable double pull out as well as a single pull out. Two large bathrooms. Full laundry. Kitchen was moderately equipped but you can call for anything specific you would like them to bring to your room (ie: tea kettle, tea pot, juice pitcher, etc. ) and they are happy to supply it. We used the kitchen for 2 out of 3 meals per day. The resort store is small and not equipped to do your grocery shopping but there is a Publix nearby. We rented bikes for the week. $25 for dvc members and $27 for guests. Totally worth it and better prices than off the resort. You can bike everywhere. They have a beach house, counter service restaurant, and pool across the road at palmetto dunes. No beach chairs to use but plenty of towels. Service was superb! Every cast member was friendly and very helpful. There is no a la carte restaurant on site but there are many great restaurants within a kilometer (3/4 mile) away and a very easy walk. Only disappointing thing for us was a lack of tennis courts on site. There was, however, ping pong, shuffle board, bean bag toss, fishing, paddle boarding etc. Loved our trip here and we will definitely be back.

Katie L.

Yelp
This resort is exceptional and had gotten even better! The cast members go above and beyond, specifically Alex who helped us during check in and Jim at Tide Me Over. The pool and slide are great even during chiller months since its heated. The new to me game areas like giant checkers outside were a lot of fun for my family. Every bit of it is fantastic!

Susan S.

Yelp
Oh my goodness love this place. Disney service without the parks. Cast Members are amazing. They meet you as you enter the property waving Mickey Hands. If you go make sure you look for Shadow the resident golden retriever. He is so sweet. There are hammocks & cornhole & a fun pool for the kiddies with lots of activities for them. Movies & campfires a couple nights a week. Beautiful with peaceful serenity. There is a wonderful Beach House with a pool on the beach. A shuttle takes you every 20-30 minutes. Great drinks & Dole Whip or Mickey Ice Cream. Ask for Michael the pool guy. He gives lots of suggestions for local restaurants.

Chris A.

Yelp
I loved this hotel a lot. The rooms were nice and comfortable. The pools were great and so was the beach with excellent views. There is a lot of fun things to do around the hotel. The place is private and laid back and isn't like the normal Disney resorts. It's still a lot of fun and great vacation spot.

Melvyn H.

Yelp
Ok, what can you say, it's Disney. Always best service. Must do list: Tie dye T-shirt Goofy Bingo Magic show Tuesday Firework and backyard pirate BBQ Beach house access to beach (bring a umbrella and towel to beach to save money, beach chair rental is $32/day not payable on Disney card) Bring some laundry pods to keep clothes fresh. Huge washer/ dryers in room.

Breanna E.

Yelp
This resort is awesome! The one bedroom is bigger than our house and I don't want to leave. The water slide at the pool is so fun. They have many activities to do even on off season. Shadow the dog is adorable. I love relaxed and slow paced you can take it here. They even have cookies at 3pm in the den. Sure, this resort isn't attached to a Disney Park. If you want that then there's Cali and Florida. But this place is still amazing.

Party P.

Yelp
This resort is totally what you would expect of a Disney property. The location is awesome and the amenities too. The resort grounds are beautiful with different games spread out through out the resort. Very family friendly. I was most impressed with the staff, they are even more friendlier than at the Walt Disney World Resort, differently Southern Hospitality. Nightlife for the adults is just across the bridge, with live bands and restaurants (not Disney). Tuesday nights is fireworks night. The food on the resort is ok, but you can always get a room with a kitchen and have plenty of restaurants around the resort within biking distance.

Todd P.

Yelp
We bought into Disney's Vacation Club in 2006 at their Saratoga Springs Resort at Walt Disney World. My wife loves the beach, and being able to use the "points" from our membership at their Hilton Head Island Resort, not wanting to fly (or drive) to Orlando to use our membership, and the fact we went to Charleston all of the time as it was, we decided to give it ago. We ended up loving it so much, we bought even more points at Hilton Head. I could probably take or leave the rest of the island, as we could take or leave places Harbor Town and South Beach at the Sea Pines Plantation. They're expensive and overrated tourist traps, whereas we really enjoyed Disney's resort. While it is not directly on the beach, there is a private beach house a short distance away that you can drive, take a shuttle, bike or walk to that is great. The beach is beautiful and clean, and there is a changing room, pool, counter service restaurant, and bar for members only. Back at the resort, the main building and other buildings around the resort are themed to look like the type of 1940s hunting/fishing lodges that used to be scattered around Hilton Head. The rooms are very nicely decorated and the public areas are well themed and maintained. They also have "extras" to take advantage of as a guest like a fishing pier, a pool with a water slide, nature walks and talks about the wildlife on the island, kayak and bike rentals, dolphin tours, etc. Our favorite part of staying at the resort are the programs involving "B'Lou Crabbe", a Sea Island native from Pawley's island, "B'Lou" gives performances throughout the week such as history talks, folk tales and ghost stories, and folk music presentations. He's a great story teller and we enjoyed all of his different performances. There's also a weekly Lowcountry boil at the beach house with all you can eat shrimp, sausage, corn, and other traditional fixings.

Mr. L.

Yelp
Always the best for a family. Try it all, do it all! Relax, enjoy, welcome to the Low Country! welcome home! We love the beach, crafts, kayaking, food, pool, people, atmosphere, nearby restaurants, golfing, shopping and so much more.

Peter L.

Yelp
One of the best vacations resorts you can stay at. The staff and resort is first class. If you want enjoy a relaxing vacation this is the place to be.

Iven S.

Yelp
What can I say--it's Disney magic! Disney is known for making memorable vacation experiences through its outstanding customer service, imagination, and top notch locations. Disney's Hilton Head resort is no exception. Our mini-vacation (our "magical day") began at check-in. The staff were very friendly and even met us at the doorway as we pulled into the temporary check-in parking. Our vacation packet was waiting for us; however, our room was not quite ready (we arrived at 3pm when check-in is actually at 4pm). Not a big deal as we expected this going in. We were told that we could explore the resort and even enjoy all the amenities while waiting for our room to become available. We were told that they would call or text us when the room was ready. We opted to hang out at their wonderful pool with a cool twisting slide. Disney's Hilton Head also has a beach house about a mile away with a free shuttle to take you there. However, we opted to not go until we got settled in. With a plethora of things to do, we figured we'd just go the next day. While at the pool, we received a text message letting us know our room was ready. No need to go back to the front desk to pick up the keys as they already gave us keys and just activated them on their end when the room was ready. When we arrived at our room and opened the door, we were welcomed with a site that took our breath away. Not because we had a great view, but the two room villa was very well equipped, spacious, and very family friendly--they even had a Pack-n-play for our new infant son! Disney's Hilton Head resort is definitely on par with what you would expect out of any Disney property. It is a hidden gem amongst the Disney properties because it is not located on or near a flagship Disney theme park. However--from what we have seen thus far--you will need at least three nights to truly appreciate what this resort has to offer!

Michael M.

Yelp
So it's a really nice resort, however don't expect to be able to download any TV for a car ride or anything because the wifi was just horrible. At this moment i've spent over an hour and a half trying to download a movie, but it just won't budge. That's the only downfall to this place.

Milleth B.

Yelp
I love Disney. Every experience with them is magical. But this resort kinda fell short on my expectation. Don't get me wrong, this place is nice and the service is great. The villas are nice, and the facility is awesome and very clean. But, it just doesn't feel Disney enough. The place has a nice rustic ambiance. Disney could've worked more on enhancing that. Our stay in Hilton Head Marriott was way better. I guess I expected more from Disney. We had fun, but I can't say the experience was magical.

Justin M.

Yelp
My family and the in-laws visited for a 4 day weekend. We got a good rate because of the time of year and also the property was undergoing a renovation. While it was cold and we'd never go into the ocean being so cold, we still had a splendid time. The resort was very nice and had great views of the inlet (or bay or whatever it is). It was on par with DisneyWorld time-share resorts. The staff was very friendly and helped us find our way around. If you've never been to the island, make sure you have good vision. Trying to find your way around at night is difficult. There is NO LIGHT anywhere. I'm in favor of this ordinance, and after 2 days you can find your way around easily. The rooms were kept up nice and our room hadn't been renovated yet either! The living area was spacious as were the bedrooms. The only complaint I'd have is the dining area is small. We did a day trip to Savannah and found this resort a good base to leave from. Only about 30-45 minute drive if I recall correctly. We only went to the beach house, but it seemed very nice and a short drive across the street from the resort. I actually prefer the resort not being on the beach.

Shawn H.

Yelp
Have been going to this resort for 12+ years; it is a Disney resort but don't expect it to be like any of the others. We enjoy it because of the laid back lifestyle at the resort. We don't plan much during our stay; sleep in, sun tan and swim, eat and then bed. So relaxing if you just sit back and enjoy the low country.

Judy B.

Yelp
Excellent place to stay! Service deserves an A! People are friendly, kind, and courteous. The entire atmosphere is very peaceful and pleasant! Definitely will recommend to others and will go back again.

Chris D.

Yelp
Great place, relax, grab a bike and enjoy. Staff is great. And kids have as blast. One tip, whether you are 1st for our 2nd floor, these doors slam shut, maybe hold onto them so they don't wake people up at 12am.

Brad J.

Yelp
Excellent service. Friendly staff. Rooms are relaxing. Great getaway!! Love the hot tub!!

Kelly B.

Yelp
A great Disney Resort, when you're not at WDW or Disneyland and just want to relax. Right next to a marina, so you'll see lots of boats. They have a pier for fishing. A nightly campfire, for stories and S'mores. Numerous hammocks along the property. Giant checkers, shuffleboard, beanbag toss and bocce ball areas to play. One pool, snack bar, bar and store near the rooms. A quick shuttle bus over the bridge, to the Disney Beach House. There you will find another pool, snack bar and bar, as well as entrance to the ocean beach area. If steps are an issue, you will want 1st floor rooms, as there are no elevators. We had a 2 bedroom villa, on the 3rd floor, with a view of the marsh side. The deck had 2 rocking chairs and a round picnic table with 4 benches. The 1 and 2 bedroom villas come with a full kitchen, living room and laundry (washer & dryer) area and a deck in the suite villa. Not sure if we were in off season or not, but the Disney owned food places closed at 5pm. We found that a bit early. Thankfully, there are places within walking distance and not much farther is shopping with a grocery store. A bit longer of a walk or quick drive. Hilton Head itself has lots of things to do, from golfing to boat tours to museums. It's great Disney service. Just no castle or hectic park schedules. It's South Carolina, so don't always expect hot sunny weather. Past few days in April, it was rainy and temps were 32-56 degrees. Definitely NOT Disney's fault.

Nicole R.

Yelp
Really nice resort with total "Disney feel". My children loved both pools and the crafts and activities at the resort (s'mores were a big hit). As others mentioned, I think it is a very big downside that this place doesn't have a restaurant. I would love to see them add one in and maybe do a character breakfast. The gift shop is also extremely small which is disappointing. I am very surprised that Disney doesn't see the extra $$ in adding a bigger place to buy Disney memorabilia. My kids had Disney gift cards to spend and had a hard time finding anything. The location is great and there are 4 or 5 really great restaurants that you can walk to (and several offer a discount to guests at the Disney resort). But again, one right on property would make it that much better. I would say if you are a big Disney fan (like me) or a DVC member, try it out. If not, there are probably better locations with more amenities on the island.
