I haven't been to and stayed on Disney property in about 2 decades, so while I don't have much to compare Port Orleans to, I don't think it really matters because there wasn't a moment during my stay here that I felt like something was lacking! If anything, I wished I had more "downtime" to explore Port Orleans because it definitely offered a lot!
Given that Port Orleans is a Disney resort, it has bus access to and from all Disney Parks, which was our top priority! The buses came frequently and we were never stuck anywhere waiting for long. Port Orleans also has bus and riverboat access to and from Disney Springs, which was a delightful bonus! It was definitely more difficult to get the riverboat back from Disney Springs and the waits in general to use the riverboat were longer, but it was worth the excursion a time or two - we took the boat to Disney Springs, but then would take the bus back as we didn't want to deal with the extremely long queues! The riverboat also has access to the sister Port Orleans resort - Riverside. We took the boat there once as well to check it out. It's also a cute resort and is a half mile walk along the river between one another or a 5 minute riverboat ride (not accounting for how long of a wait you'll have waiting for the riverboat to show up and be going in the direction of Riverside).
Aside from the awesome accessibility to the parks and Disney's "downtown," the resort itself has so much to offer! Firstly, the staff here are phenomenal and were so helpful when checking us in and out, storing our bags, and welcoming us and answering all of our questions throughout the entire trip! For the pin collectors, there is a board at the front desk AND in the gift shop that you can check out!
The food hall was okay! You can order from the app and pick up there, which is nice. There are a lot of options, but they're all mid. But that's fine because I was mostly there to get Mickey waffles of beignets and then the rest of the time I ate within the parks!
There's also a huge water park in the center of the resort! It looked so much fun every time I walked by it and was open until even 10 pm or later into the night with people there having fun, but I never managed to get there to enjoy it! A few of my friends in my group did get to go, so it definitely is both kid and adult friendly, which we appreciate!
Speaking of kids, my group (all of us adults with no kids) booked this resort because this was listed as one that was more adult-centered and less family/kid-centered. That, in no way, means that it isn't kid- and family-friendly though. In fact, I found that there were a ton of kids and families here, so I truly wonder what a more kid-centered resort looks like haha!
All in all, loved it for the price, amenities, and accessibility! It's got a ton of character and is obviously New Orleans/French Quarter themed, which gives it a lot of character, and associated with Princess Tiana/The Princess and the Frog movie, which makes it even more lovely! Because our experience was so lovely, I would love to stay here again next time I come to Disney!
