Ditsong Sammy Marks Museum

Very disappointed🫤😒...On the website as shown it says R65 OWN tour,screenshot I took yesterday.Got there paid R75.Walked around outside took photos,all nice.Went to go look inside and take photos.At door 2nd pic...No where on website they said no photos.😡Went to few other museums already and never it was a problem taking photos😐🤬When I shown them the price on their website they had an excuse😐Prices changed last April and still wasnt changed on website.And there is about 30 workers,'working' on the grounds😱Most sit around on their phones or talking.Saw about 6 working.Way to many there🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️RThe grass wasnt even cat around the outer buildings.See was cut in other photos posted here in reviews from other people😡 Was looking forward for this for more than 2 years.Hope they give us our refund😒😡Not very happy🫤

Absolute amazing time piece. Amazing staff and a very haunted house. Been here twice in 1 Month. We will be back again soon. So much history. Absolute amazing

Visited for the market day end of August. Beautiful gardens, magnificent house tour. Also charming concert by Deutsche School Pretoria, marimba, choir and brass ensemble. Market stalls small in number but some real gems available such as jams, marmalades and food. Best chicken prego i can remember. Strongly recommend you visit next market day.

Sammy Marks is technically a bit outside central Pretoria, but it’s a favourite. The house is almost frozen in time, with original furniture, décor and personal items still in place. A guided tour gives you all the stories about the family and the business side, and it turns into a nice mix of gossip and history. The grounds are also pretty – large lawns, trees, and a very “old estate” feel. We did the tour and then sat outside with something to drink, and it felt like we’d gone much further out into the countryside than we actually had.

The drive out is short and worth it. The house is elegant without feeling roped off, and the guided tour adds stories that make the rooms stick in your head. We lingered on the veranda, looked over the lawns, and then walked the grounds. Tea in the garden rounded it off perfectly.

Absolute fabulous. Our tour guide friendly and knowledgeable. History is being preserved in a positive spirit. Garden absolutely amazing, toilets clean. Pack a picnic basket and bring the kids to enjoy the space and peace. 100% worth the outing!

A lovely historical place to visit and experience some of South-Africas local history. Phone ahead of time to find out about the restaurant or planned picnics.

Very interesting to visit this Victorian museum. Guided tour. Tea garden on property as well offering light meals at an affordable price. I recently had my birthday there and they provide picnic baskets. You can choose to sit at tables under the trees or blankets on the grass. Lovely setting and ideal for families with children.
