Simply stunning scenery before heading into Bryce Canyon. The true beauty here in Dixie National Forest/Red Canyon can only be experienced in person. What a joy to drive on Scenic Byway 12 through this amazing forest and canyon. Words cannot do it justice. It is a must see!

Nice hiking trails. Visitor Center was closed, as was bathrooms there.

NATURE OF ALL THINGS

This place is wonderful especially when it has snow. We went through the Dixie national Forest on the way to big basin national park. We have fun taking pictures of the snow and trees. It a great place to visit when there is snow and when there isn't any snow. We saw a couple of marmots while driving through the forest in the snow.

Breathtaking is the only word to describe it. I definitely recommend the visit. It's not a very long drive through it and not alot of pictures points. What I do suggest is cycling alongside on the cycle path or taking a walk. There is also a camp/RV site for those that are interested. Please don't skip this.

Gorgeous scenery and a great day trip from Vegas. Plentiful creeks and lakes to fish, tons of trees, fresh air and wild critters. There's an awesome lava field from old lava flows, several scenic areas with valleys and gorges... Animals you may see include deer, sheep, skunk, squirrel, ducks and various other birds... We just love getting out and enjoying nature, and this is an excellent way to do it.

We mapped and followed a very pretty off-road trail. The fall colors and cool weather made for a perfect day. Some of the trails and roads can get a little treacherous if it rains or snows.

Google
this place is awesome. i’m not quite sure how to review an entire national forest because it covers a massive area. i recently camped here and it was great. i did the ice house mountain bike trail as well which was fantastic

The Dixie National Forest it's one of the beautiful forest I've ever seen in the u.s. all the view points are breathtaking. You can enter the park for free with the annual pass for u.s national park which usually around $80 for the whole here. Or you can buy one time pass for something like $40. There isn't a restaurant in the park and no gift shops. The road are safe and there is a sidewalk all over the place that you can use also for bicycles. If you are not planning on hiking, you probably will spend here only something like 2-3 hours or less. There is some short hiking trails for a nice 30-60 min easy walk with a beautiful view.

Yelp
The Dixie National Forest is known for their red rock canyons and high mountain plateaus - you can take the 89 or the 12 scenic routes on your way to or from Bryce Canyon and check this national forest out. A great place to camp, hike, fish, horseback ride, and even ski or use the snowmobile in the wintertime. We didn't see any wildlife while passing through, but I've heard that you're bound to see golden eagles, antelopes, prairie dogs, wild turkeys, and even pronghorn sheep! If you are driving, note that some of the roads are narrow! +red rock canyons +high mountain plateaus +narrow roads

Yelp
On our way to Bryce Canyon we had to pass by the Dixie national forest. Dixie National Forest straddles the divide between the Great Basin and the Colorado River in southern Utah. Scenery ranges from desert canyon gorges of amber, rose, and sienna to high mountain forests, plateaus, and alpine lakes. The forest is a part of the world-renowned, with beautiful red rocks back drops scenery. Just amazing

Yelp
If you're lucky enough to be near by on a road trip or visiting nearby you must take a drive on anyway 12 towards Bryce Canyon. Dixie National Forest has amazing views, great hikes as well as bike and walking trails. While doing research for my road-trip through parts of Utah I came across information regarding the beautiful rock tunnels (there are two) that you can drive through while heading into Bryce. There are plenty of turn outs to stop safely for photos. There is plenty to see even if you only stop at the visiting center. It is free unless you enter Bryce Canyon. I'm already planning my next visit. Take the time to enjoy nature and see all there is to see in this lifetime. It's so worth it. Happy adventuring.

Yelp
Southern Utah is spectacular and Dixie National Forest is certainly part of that beauty. Highways 89 & 12 are two of the scenic routes you can choose to experience Southern Utah and Dixie National Forest. Dixie National Forest runs 170 miles across southern Utah and covers 2 million acres. Elevations range from 2.800 feet above sea level in the St. George area to 11,322 feet at Boulder National Park. With this range of elevations comes great geographic diversity. You will pass through Alpine forests with Aspens, spruce and fir, semi=desert plateaus, lake areas with 1,000's of small lakes and meadows. Climate extremes from 100 degrees F. in the St. George area to -30 degrees F at Brian Head Peak. Rainfalls can be intense especially in July and August. In your travels through Dixie National Forest where wildlife abounds with pronghorn sheep, golden eagles, wild turkeys and antelope, you might experience a sighting of the Utah prairie dog or mule deer, as well. If you want to get off of Highways 89 & 12 there are sights to see. Cascade Falls, Kodachrome Basin State Park, Escalante, Hell-s Backbone Bridge and Box Death Hollow. Because of this great diversity, Dixie National Forest offers camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, snowmobiling and skiing.

Yelp
A MUST STOP! Loved everything about a recent visit to Bryce and driving though here made it that much more enjoyable. There's plenty of scenic areas and places to stop and take a great picture. It was just such a relaxing stop that I recommend everyone trying to make this drive as part of their trip. This route even has a mini arch that you can stop and take a picture under if the road isn't too busy. Add this route to your trip if you plan on stopping at Bryce, you won't regret it.

Yelp
Don't miss this gem! If you happen to find yourself in Utah & you stumble upon this place on your way to Bryce Canyon it's worth checking out. The colors are brilliant and you won't miss the unusual shapes coming up from the mountains. There's several trails to check out and plenty of parking on both sides of the road to stop and take pics or get onto a trail from. There's also a small visitor center but it doesn't seem to be open year round but the trails are all open. We didn't have time to check out everything as we didn't plan on stopping here but very glad we did because as you got up higher everything became even more magical and on this particular day there wasn't another person in sight which is amazing to find yourself in a place like this all alone! The colors & shapes remind me very much of Big Thunder Mountain from Disneyland. This place was so much fun & a great surprise!

Yelp
We were looking for a place to go over the 4th of July weekend that was dog friendly. There are so many places you're not allowed to bring your fur baby and we wanted to include ours on our mini getaway. Almost all of the trails in Dixie National Forest are pet friendly and the scenery is gorgeous! I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Beautiful drive through on our way to Bryce National Park! Didn't hike it but the views are spectacular even on the road. Highly recommend even if you can only drive through it.
