The location is amazing, within castle walls and town centre. The rooms are big but not clean, shower looked like nobody had cleaned it in a while and the room was super dusty. Some of the bedding needs to be refreshed. Beware of the rooms under the roof, they get very warm and stuffy. No kids bed, stool or anything as offered by other Jugendherbergen - maybe more catered to teenagers? Breakfast was an experience. The bread options were stale on both days we were there, the food was very basic, the warm food options were tepid at best. Coffee subpar. Shame - some Jugendherbergen have such nice service and breakfasts this one does not. Orange juice was more of a squash. On another occasion we will probably look for an alternative.

This youth hostel has a perfect location in the Wittenberg old town. Walking distance to all the sights - they actually are on one of the main sights. Pleasant staff, clean spacious rooms, bargain prices and a very good breakfast included in the price. They even cater for vegans, which was the first we found in Germany (including many hotels). Good storage for bikes. Washing machine available for your laundry. What else could one ask for. Peacefull in the evening and at night.

This property had received excellent reviews, so we decided to go for it. Be aware - "hostel" means austere self-service. I had no idea we'd have to pay for our sheets, then put them on and take them off the beds and to pay for towels. I was afraid to ask for soap, since I had actually packed some shower gel. The beds were also just a thick, hard foam mattress, very uncomfortable.||||The location is excellent and quiet. We didn't find it that affordable, though, once we had to pay for sheets and towels, costing 125 Euro for a family of five. The breakfast was a good, typical European one - bread, cheese, meats, spreads, yoghurt, cereal, coffee, tea, milk. I enjoyed it, although my husband and children were underwhelmed.||||Next time we'll definitely look for a pension or hotel!

This property is in a super special location, right next to the church where Martin Luther nailed his 95 Thesis and within walking distance to the Cranach House, the State Church, Luther's House, where he burned the Papal Bull, and Melanchthon's house. So location is great, service is not. They charge you for every little thing (including wi-fi). It was full of school children when we were there and the floor we stayed on seemed more suited for children, because the ceiling was super low. There's an elevator, so that's nice for me who has trouble with stairs. Also the water pressure is great (and water is hot if you take a shower early).

This is a very comfortable hostel and is right next door to the church where Martin Luther posted his 95 thesis. The staff was friendly and spoke very good English. The facility was clean and we had a bathroom with a nice shower right in our room. This is the nicest and quietest hostel we stayed in while in Europe.

The room and venue itself was clean and in order. The staff however were rude to me and other guests, were unable to recognise a Credencial for the #jakobsweg (even though they advertise themselves as a pilgrims hostel), and made no effort to communicate with guests of other languages. This was the case both morning and evening. The English information on the website and in the brochures at the venue omit information that a membership is necessary for staying at the facility. All in all, lacking in basic hospitality.

We found this hostel online after looking for affordable lodging options for Wittenberg-Lutherstadt. What a find! You don't have to be a "youth" to stay here. For 50 Euro we had a nice room, our own bath, clean bedding and breakfast. This hostel is newer and well kept. There is no carpeting in the hallways or rooms, so noise may echo. However, we weren't terribly bothered by this. The hostel is located 1 block from the Castle Church and a 10 minute walk to Martin Luther's home (museum), and can be accessed by bus from the main transit station in 5 minutes. Wittenberg-Luterstadt is a quaint town and definitely worth seeing, but it should be noted that the locals speak very little English.

It was amazing to he staying part of the castle church at Wittenberg, but the summer outside was very warm and there was no air conditioning. It was quite sticky at night, pack a fan if its summer.
