DJH Youth Hostel Darmstadt

Rooms are clean and spacious. Food is good and different every day. The hostel is central and well connected. The staff is great, friendly and always ready to help.

The location is very convenient and it's not that far away from the city center. Moreover, it's close to Darmstadt's historical places (Hochzeit-Turm for example). This youth hostel is really very ideal for weekend seminars. The rooms are clean and the staff is super friendly .They also offer a good range of vegetarian and vegan options at breakfast, lunch and dinner. And the food is tasty too!!

Good location. In particular if you want to explore the eastern outskirts of Darmstadt, like Mathildenhöhe and Oberfeld and surrounding forests. Also just a 10 minute walk to the city center. Clean house and rooms. Super friendly staff. It was very warm in Darmstadt during our stay. And unfortunately we had rooms facing the street that has a lot of heavy traffic also during the night. Since we had to open the windows due to the heat (no air conditioning) the nights were very loud and we slept poorly. Next time we will try to get rooms facing the lake on the other side. The lake compensated for a lot though. We spent the afternoons there, swimming and relaxing. Breakfast is good. Overall a nice stay - even with the noise aspect.

Appalling state of the room: smell of toilet and drains on arrival; short circuit after 11pm that pitched the room into darkness for the rest of the night; no emergency phone number or overnight service available. Upper range Hotel prices at € 58 per person per night for low hostel standard.

The staff was very nice , the rooms were comfortable, they had separated the toilet and the shower with both having a wash basin. The breakfast was good , can't say anything about lunch or dinner as I never had it at hostel. The hostel is situated beside a lake and you can see it from some of the rooms, you can swim , boat etc in the lake.

This hostel is at a top location, not far from Darmstadt Castle and city center, right on a kind of lake serving as a natural swimming pool in summer. The rooms are very clean and well appointed, the 6-bed dormitory for girls was equipped with a bathroom so you don't have to share with other rooms. Breakfast is excellent and at the bar you can buy soft drinks, snacks and even beer (depending on age of course).||The modern standard of youth hostels in Germany makes them a good choice, not only because of the moderate price, but also because you meet nice people there.||The sleeping quality depends on the number of noisy youngsters, my first night was quiet, but the second night noisy. The service has only 4 stars because you can't expect much service at a hostel. But everybody working there was extremely friendly and helpful

I stayed at this Youth Hostel for a long weekend, for a meeting with colleagues from various other countries. I have previously stayed in the Frankfurt youth hostel a couple of times and this had a similar good standard of cleanliness. I stayed in a single room with adequate storage, and a small but clean bathroom. Those in single rooms were welcomed with complimentary bottle of water, fruit and a chocolate bar and a small towel. The meeting rooms were also good and we arranged for tea and coffee to be provided. This hostel is not as big as Frankfurt and the coffee bar is smaller. I was also surprised that they only sold carbonated water. The hostel is situated away from the centre of town, needing two trams from the airbus stop. As far as we could see it was not near any cafes or restaurants and the nearest shop is a few streets away. I arrived after they closed the cafeteria and was lucky my colleagues had some snacks. The food was not up to the standard of the Frankfurt hostel, just about adequate for the time we were there but mass produced, with limited choice, and a lot seemed to be out of packets. They are mass catering of course so restaurant standards are not applicable. Extra fruit was a neccesity for me. Staff were friendly and helpful. Overall for a cheap, basic, clean place to meet for a limited time, this fits the bill.

Cost friendly. For a small annual fee, you can use the youth hostel worldwide. The breakfast was a little disappointing. Nonetheless, perfect for travellers, backpackers, somebody looking for an economical stay. The people at the reception were super friendly. Full marks for hospitality. :)
