Take a Look Inside Tokyo’s Newly Revamped Capsule Hotel - AFAR

"Reimagined by Schemata Architects under Jo Nagasaka, this eight-story capsule hotel in Ebisu blends a retro capsule-hotel vibe with a modern, minimalist aesthetic: 162 sleeping pods (43 in × 87 in × 43 in / 110 cm × 220 cm × 100 cm) feature refurbished interiors finished in raw plywood, fiber-reinforced plastic, and concrete floors. The redesign intentionally incorporates Finnish saunas on the first and seventh floors—imported from Finland and available between 1 p.m. and 10 a.m.—playing up the long-standing stereotype that older capsule hotels resemble saunas. Guests must check in and out daily; rates start at 4,900 yen (about US$45) per night, and a “Nap Plan” allows hourly use of pods, saunas, and the lounge for 1,500 yen (≈US$14) with each additional hour costing 500 yen (≈US$5). Practical conveniences include shower units stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and soap, while the overall offering positions the capsule model closer to boutique design lodging without sacrificing affordability and convenience." - Sarah Buder

Clear, quiet and just the thing I needed for a quick nightover after an event in Shibuya. Did not get to use the shower and sauna, so for me 14k yen for a night was quite expensive, but I chose it for the location, 24h check-in, locker and amenities, as it provided loungewear/pijamas. I am 180cm and around 88 kg, but I had enough room for comfort. There are earplugs provided but if you are a lightsleeper, be advised. Also, the air was a bit dry. Inside the capsule, you have a stand, a light, a fan and a socket for charging.

The capsule is small. It is about the length of a 182cm person. There is a vent fan. I got bit by bugs while sleeping. Couldn't help but feel creepy crawlies every night. Probably dust mites. The temperature was good. Location is prime with transport around the corner and a 7/11 across the street. Slightly inconvenient with luggage and cannot go to your room at certain times of the day. What other options are there if you don't want to stay in a love hotel or pay $300 USD a night? Not many....

Let me tell you why I give this place 1 star. First, you think the wood design is cool... it is a shanty inside. Just boards everywhere strapped together. The sauna is the only bonus this place has to offer. Absolutely zero early check in, even for extra money offered when the space was available. At finally 2:55... after 14 hours travel and 30 hours up... I'm sorry...5 more minutes. Then, the icing... which is why I give it 1 star... they make everyone (EVERYONE!) check out in the middle of your stay. Excuse me... what was that? Yes... Never in my years have I EVER seen a place in a hostel or cube design that makes every reservation check out and pack their belongings by 11am (no sleeping in on vacation for you), and re-check in after 3pm again. Oh yes, they can hold your bag... at the front desk... after you've packed. There is no relax time here. I spent 20 minutes in the sauna and gave it a 2 on location for that. You're right next to one station, but so are a thousand other hotels. Guests are found sleeping in the main lobby because they have no where to go for 4 hours. Do not stay here. I'm leaving early because of this check out nightmare and we'll see if they even credit me for the time I refuse to stay here. What a joke. Find another cubicle Hotel.

Do-C is the best value and location in Tokyo, as Ebisu is a crossroads to great nightlife and travel in and out of Tokyo. With a sauna and secure locker environment, it's not luxury but just a place to crash, and sweat out the day. Staff helpful, and stay amenities offered at desk. Floors and saunas are separated by gender, but WiFi and 2F area support interaction. No elevator to 2F, so guests who are mobility-impaired likely impossible. I have stayed here about 10 times.

The capsule look a bit old but the toilet is very clean. There are private showers, open showers, and a sauna which is fantastic. However, there’s no lift from the ground level to the lobby, so you’ll need to use the stairs. But from the lobby to the dormitory, there is a lift available. The location is great, close to Uniqlo and the metro station. Overall, it was a really good experience.

This place has 8 floors, no stairs, and only one elevator that only fits 3 or 4 people. I'm leaving my review solely because of that because it's made leaving in the morning at checkout time feel impossible. I was ready to go at 10:55, and now I'm typing this at 11:08, still waiting to go down. The elevator has only come to my floor twice in that time, and both times it was too full for me and my luggage. The second time it came, I just put my bag in there and asked them to take it down for me, something I wasn't entirely comfortable with but I need to go now and it felt like the only way to get my bags down there, and I'm hoping I can squeeze into the next one. Just a terrible design. The third elevator just came and there was not enough room for me at all. The fact that there's no stairs is idiotic. If the elevator can't pick me up one more time I might just use the emergency stairs.

This is absolutely the worst hostel I have ever stayed at. As I have stayed in the Narita airport hotel prior, I imagined that this would be similar. While similar in concept, the execution was drastically worse. To begin, you must take a very narrow set of stairs to get to the entrance of the hostel. This, in itself, isn’t terrible - while it is pretty annoying to bring suitcases in, it could certainly be worse. However, once in the building, you have no choice but to take the elevator. You cannot take the stairs up and down between floors. This is unlike anything I’ve seen before. Especially during times where there is a lot of traffic, you may have to wait a good while just to go to your locker/bed. Everything about this place screams cramped. The locker rooms are horribly small, and the lockers themselves aren’t great either. While at the 9h Narita hotel, you get full length lockers, you do not get these at this hostel. This is incredibly inconvenient given the forced 11AM checkout, when multiple visitors are trying to grab things all at once. The sauna is OK. That’s the best thing I have to say about this hostel. The floors immediately outside of the sauna are incredibly slippery, with only a few textured stickers to get some grounding on. The showers are small with hardly any room to change clothes, and this is also the case in the sleeping quarters - there is no actual change room. The 11AM-3PM checkout policy is ridiculous, as with 4 hours of “in depth cleaning,” it looks like not much was done besides beds being made. Speaking of beds, I have never had a more uncomfortable night of sleep. The fan in the capsule did not work, so it was perpetually boiling hot. Additionally, the pods seem much smaller than Narita’s location. I could not fully lay out without my feet cramming into the wall. Calling what you get a “pillow” is a disservice - you essentially get a bag full of plastic balls. It is beyond uncomfortable. Yes, the location is good as it is right beside the station. That’s it. Sauna and good location. Everything else about Do-C Ebisu is terrible. Do not waste your money and time coming here. I find it interesting that 9h group is the only type of hostel where refunds cannot be given under any circumstance. It’s almost like they know how terrible their own product is. (Also - the wooden interior is gross and dingy)

The capsule room's are clean, the reception situated at second floor, there is waiting room while waiting check in or check out or just relax. The capsule for man and woman is separate. There is also sauna ,locker facilities. This is one of the great capsule hotel with affordable price.||Shower room and sauna for man at third floor and for woman at sixth floor. Situated at Shibuya Ebisu, 3 minutes walk from Shibuya Ebisu station then take west exit.||Their staff's very responsive and helpful. I would recommend this capsule hotel for backpackers or budget traveler.
