Take a Look Inside Tokyo’s Newly Revamped Capsule Hotel - AFAR

"Reimagined by Schemata Architects under Jo Nagasaka, this eight-story capsule hotel in Ebisu blends a retro capsule-hotel vibe with a modern, minimalist aesthetic: 162 sleeping pods (43 in × 87 in × 43 in / 110 cm × 220 cm × 100 cm) feature refurbished interiors finished in raw plywood, fiber-reinforced plastic, and concrete floors. The redesign intentionally incorporates Finnish saunas on the first and seventh floors—imported from Finland and available between 1 p.m. and 10 a.m.—playing up the long-standing stereotype that older capsule hotels resemble saunas. Guests must check in and out daily; rates start at 4,900 yen (about US$45) per night, and a “Nap Plan” allows hourly use of pods, saunas, and the lounge for 1,500 yen (≈US$14) with each additional hour costing 500 yen (≈US$5). Practical conveniences include shower units stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and soap, while the overall offering positions the capsule model closer to boutique design lodging without sacrificing affordability and convenience." - Sarah Buder

The capsule room's are clean, the reception situated at second floor, there is waiting room while waiting check in or check out or just relax. The capsule for man and woman is separate. There is also sauna ,locker facilities. This is one of the great capsule hotel with affordable price. Shower room and sauna for man at third floor and for woman at sixth floor. Situated at Shibuya Ebisu, 3 minutes walk from Shibuya Ebisu station then take west exit. Their staff's very responsive and helpful. I would recommend this capsule hotel for backpackers or budget traveler.

Great location from Ebisu station (JY line), I had a very satisfied experience with the location, the lobby is spacious, the sauna and shower room is excellent. Only the weak point is the sleeping area has no door in each capsule, only a curtain. When travelers bring in their suitcase and if they pack their suitcase in the sleeping area at night when people sleeping , can’t really sleep well becoz of the disturb. I hope the hotel will put a sign or notice to users no packing luggage after a certain time at night so that other sleeping users can have peace. Other than that, I love this place a lot.

Believe the bad reviews – we didn’t sleep at all. Everything the negative reviews say is true. The lights stay on all night, and the capsules are not soundproof—you only get a thin paper privacy screen, so you hear everything around you. There’s no air circulation inside the capsule—even with the fan on, it felt stuffy and uncomfortable. My TV shelf was broken and covered in dust. The sauna was good, but the rest of the place is covered in mold. Also, there’s only one elevator for eight floors, and no stairs, which makes moving around frustrating. No water station. Wouldn’t stay here again.

Perfect for solo travelers. You have to check out everyday so that they can clean the space but that wasn’t a hindrance to my plans at all. There’s only one elevator so plan accordingly on that front. The sauna was absolutely delightful. Perfect after getting in 20-30k steps a day

Do yourself a favour and don’t go here. Price is in the upper range, but facilities are in the lower. The check out everyday system is really annoying, and you don’t get access to your luggage during the period that you are not allowed to be in the hostel (11-15). The people at the counter do their best (they’re nice), but the rest is just annoying. Also, you don’t get a new towel after you used it, only 1 a day and there is nowhere to hang it to dry.

Would stay again. Amazing shower and had a quiet rest. The location is perfect. Near metro, so very easy to get around. Ebisu is an awesome area too. Lots of cool upscale bars and food options. I hate being around other people and even I enjoyed here haha

The building and the facility are old. The bathing floor is rundown, the plywood boards are worn-out and weathered. It's not as great as it looks. Plus the private shower cubicles have very little privacy, you pull the blind down anybody can still peek you showering. It's such an easy job to fix it. Yet nobody seems to care. Looks like Ebisu is a business district or popular amongst workers. So there seem to come loads of young drunk working people to crash for the night after a hot suana. Did I like my stay? Yes, the suana was good and the capsule was comfy enough but you can go to better sentos or suanas they are everywhere. Will I stay there again? ABSOLUTELY NOPE. 👎 Why? The Do-C facility is entirely cubicled and furnished with plywoods. The frontdesk, cubicles for storage, toilet cubicles, everything. I was assigned a capsule on 8th floor. The elevator is tiny, at best would fit 5 people if squeezed. There is only one elevator for the building where they cram the rooms with like over 20-30 capsules per room. Can you easily access the exit? No. The emergency exit door is sealed with a hard plastic case to prevent people from opening it. I've never seen an emergency door vaulted this hard. Who are they trying to protect, people in danger of losing lives or the emergency door in the event of emergency? I don't understand this obsession to control people whilst involved in hospitality industry. I didn't feel safe there.

The showers and saunas were amazing. The price was great. Staff spoke perfect English. However, I didn’t sleep, they don’t turn the lights off in the rooms and allow people to check in and out at any time during the night which kept me awake.
