Not Worth the Price for the Experience Offered I’ve dined in both the Tavern and the Alexander dining areas, and while the ambiance and service were consistent across both, the Tavern does offer slightly more affordable menu options. Unfortunately, both spaces suffer from excessive noise levels that significantly detract from the dining experience—it’s difficult to hold a conversation or enjoy your meal in such a loud environment. While the food is generally decent, it falls short of justifying the high price point. In fact, I found the more expensive dishes served in the Alexander dining area to be surprisingly bland. The overall quality simply does not align with the premium pricing. One bright spot is the service. The staff are consistently attentive, professional, and friendly, which certainly enhances the overall experience. However, the kitchen appears to be quite slow. During one visit, it took approximately 45 minutes from the time we were seated to receive two cheeseburgers. In summary, it has potential, especially given the quality of its staff, but it is currently overpriced for what it delivers. A serious reevaluation of the pricing structure and a solution to the persistent noise issue would go a long way in improving the overall customer experience.

This was a very cool restaurant. Their menu is fancy, which I am not usually into, but they will help you out if you want to make a sandwich simpler. Inside is old fashioned. The basement feels sort of like a dungeon with candles and dim overhead lights, but it is supposed to be like 1776. I do not know the full history of the restaurant, but I am sure there is more to it. The waitresses even dress in an old style to keep the historic restaurant feel going. I would recommend this place based on the atmosphere alone - just being in the historic restaurant makes this a fun place to check out. This was not a hotel for us - only a restaurant.

This was not my first visit here and definitely not my last. Tonight I had the delicious and savory roasted duck with apples. Absolutely wonderful! My favorite part is the atmosphere, no wait, the food, no wait…. The service!!! Lisa, THANK YOU! You made my experience truly delightful! Attentive, joyful, knowledgeable of menu and quick to clear any dishes.

Google
It was surprisingly crowded for a Wed afternoon, 5/7/25. Never having been there before we didn't know what to expect. The atmosphere is very special as buildings from this era are rare. The decor is filled with collected items of the era. Wait staff is super, pleasant, on the ball & in Colonial costume. Lovely menu & the food is fabulous! Best French onion soup ever. Date, nut bread warm out of the oven topped with cream cheese. Prices worth every penny. 6 of us, several different meals, wonderful, including crab dip, burgers & salad. It was a 2 1/2 hr trip each way for us & I can't wait to go back.

Google
Stopped in for lunch, a spirit or two and history! 110% satisfied. I feel like I was back in colonial times. Celeilia was fast, efficient and knowledgeable. Food was solid! And WHOA the Rum Bellies Vengeance was bold & delicious. No wonder why there’s a 2 limit. The museum like quality was excellent being able to walk in the footsteps of many and step back in time. Thank you for an amazing experience at a very affordable price!

Google
Had the colony crab cake meal and the date bread for dessert. Very good. The building was very interesting with the historical feel you'd expect. You go downstairs to the tavern area which brings you back to its original era. As you dine in flickering candlelight that sets off a warm and cozy vibe. All the servers and staff are dressed in costume which creates a nice scene you become a part of as you are there as well. Was seated right away did not have a long wait, but also was there around 4:00,so perhaps before a dinner rush. Just a all around good experience for dining. Definitely recommend.

Google
This was my first time in Gettysburg and my first time eating at the Dobbin House. What an incredible experience!! I loved learning about the history of the house and being immersed in the colonial atmosphere. The food was exquisite and Autumn, our waitress, was phenomenal. She was so accommodating and gave us first class service. Will definitely be returning in the future

Google
This is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. The food isn't the best, maybe a solid 3.5/4 out of 5 stars. But everything else is perfect. The food is period setting, so no French fries, etc. But it is prepared well. Except the veal...avoid it. Love the atmosphere and great customer service.

Yelp
A coworker recommended this place cause we were going to Gettysburg. Plus Yelp said it was awesome and it was. Had the signature rum bellies revenge. Awesome but all alcohol so one was enough. We both had the strip steak sandwich. We got the potato salad. Awesome. And lastly the pecan pie. Whooo. What a great meal. And it's in a 200 year old basement tavern. Sooo cool. Loaded with locals even though it's a tourist town. Go here!!! Go here

Yelp
Authentic venue with a true Gettysburg experience. The staff was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. The menu leans heavily toward meat dishes, even the French onion soup has beef, but there's a seafood section with solid options for those who prefer something different. I had the crab cake, which was packed with jumbo lump crab and not overloaded with breading, along with the stuffed shrimp. Both were flavorful, though the seasoning was a bit intense--not something I'd eat every day, but still delicious. I went with a large group, and everyone enjoyed their meal. The drink selection was impressive, with plenty of choices to complement the food. The place was packed even on a Tuesday evening, likely due to its tourist appeal, but it's definitely worth a visit. The decor is an interesting--original from the building's early days, with concrete walls and historical paintings that add to the ambiance. Before dining, you can browse their shop, which offers snacks and souvenirs. It's interesting how they combine two restaurants and a store under one roof. A unique and memorable spot!

Yelp
We went here for our 30th Anniversary. Booking process was easy on the phone. Arrived on time and were seated promptly. The entire place has a presence of time. Brimming with nostalgia. Bread basket and home made butter as we sat. Nice menu, thorough. We had the Baked Kings Onion soup and the Avocado Louis. Salads were nice sized and brought with well gauged timing. Parmesan Peppercorn dressing was nice but a bit sweet, odd. My wife had the Primal Rib Of Beef and I had the Seafood Isabella. Generous portions and flavorful. On visiting it would be advisable to make reservations with a wingback chair, the wooden chairs are fine and timely but not as comfortable as the wingbacks.

Yelp
Decided on the historical Dobbin House Tavern for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Luckily, we were able to snag two seats at the bar. The tavern dining area is somewhat smaller and fills up quickly. Our bartender was attentive with all 8-ish patrons and brought us drinks and menus within a few minutes of sitting down. They ended up kicking the keg of the beer I ordered halfway through my pour. She didn't charge me for the half beer, which was nice. We ordered lunch entrees, the hot beef sandwich and the springhouse salad that comes with two thick slices of the homemade date nut bread and cream cheese. My salad was phenomenal. I love a "busy" salad with tons of ingredients and textures. This salad has nuts, berries, cheese, turkey, and fresh mixed greens with a homemade dressing. The nut bread was on another level. It had the moistness of a banana bread, but the spices and crunch of a great nut bread. There were a decent amount of chocolate chips in were too which was pleasantly unexpected. I honestly didn't see the need for the cream cheese. My bf loved his hot beef sandwich and said the coleslaw was crisp and had a nice flavor. I 100% say this is a wonderful and fairly priced location for lunch. The vibe is dark and a little moody with exposed stone and wooden beams. They even have a natural spring on display near a cubby hole where slaves were hidden during the underground railroad times.

Yelp
Pretty good food, with an atmosphere that is borderline kitschy. Be prepared for a packed venue, mostly with tourists. This was first time I ever got a seat, despite multiple visits during my previous trips to the area. Even then, all that was available was a singe spot at the bar. In terms of history, the place is the real deal. I really enjoyed the cellar vibe downstairs; it's not too dark but dark enough to make you wonder how historic patrons got by with lanterns. The servers were also dressed for the part. The menu was basically all pub staples. Nothing stood out, but nothing looked bad either. I went with a French onion soup, hot beef sandwich, sarsaparilla root beer and a spiced apple wine. I got the impression that Dobbins House is known for its French onion soup, and I agree, it was pretty good. The sandwich was nothing spectacular but hit the spot. Prices didn't seem excessive. Service was good given how busy it was, although you might be forced to wait longer than you like. But the servers definitely tried their best to keep up. I'd give it 3.5 stars. There are places with better food nearby. But if you want history, this is the place to go.

Yelp
What a wonderful dining experience at Dobbin House. We were promptly seated in the library room for our 5 pm reservation and served by a wonderful woman who ensured a fantastic dining experience (sorry, I can't recall her name). I ordered the special soup, cream of crab and the house beer, both were outstanding. We were served a basket of hot (and I mean hot) rolls and sweet slices of bread. House salad was generous and delightful. The star of the evening were the crab cakes. They were full of lump crab. I selected the sweet potato side and it was perfect. The atmosphere was truly colonial, this building dating from 1776. Everything was very clean and welcoming. I recommend you spend an evening dining at Dobbin House.

Yelp
The Dobbin House Est. 1776 in Gettysburg, PA. The restaurant had a 2 hour wait time but well worth the wait. We decided to have a few drinks at FourScore Beer Co., across the street while we waited. We enjoyed our French onion soup with beef and their homemade pecan pie 5/5 stars!! We look forward to dining at this restaurant again and trying their dinner plates unfortunately, we were too full to order dinner after eating at FourScore Beer Co., but we wanted to check out the dining area in historic building. There's a gift shop inside. We recommend making reservations in advance for the Tavern or Formal dining area. Happy Yelping :)

Yelp
Truly an authentic Gettysburg experience! We made reservations upstairs but arrived early due to the weather and asked to be seated downstairs instead. We tried the prime rib, Avocado Louis, and King's onion soup, all of which were outstanding. The seasonal cocktails were also a highlight, each one creative and unique to the season. I expected a touristy vibe, but this spot had a warm, genuine atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy quality food and a memorable dining experience in Gettysburg. Side note: It's pretty casual, so don't sweat being too dressed up.

Yelp
My husband and kids brought me here for my birthday and I was not disappointed! The place is historic and has so many cool features - our server was amazing! She was helpful and very detailed. And of course the food was beyond delicious! I had the Maryland Colony Crabcakes and it was mouthwatering. I had sambuca for the first time ever and I really liked it. I cannot wait to go back and try their famous French onion soup!

Rob G.

Yelp
Obviously, the ambience is unrivaled, a 200-year-old building who can compete with that! Everything was kept original and made to feel and look as historical as possible, from the architecture, to the seating, all the way down to the waitresses attire. Very well done. As for the food, it seemed a little pricey, so I cheated out and got the cheapest thing on the menu that was not a sandwich, the spit roasted chicken, which turned out to be some of the best chicken I've ever had. If it wasn't for the perfectly cooked crispy well seasoned skin. It may have just fell apart on my plate. It was so tender. The salad was delicious, along with the homemade blue cheese dressing. As for the drinks, there was a very limited draft selection, but thankfully, I really enjoyed one of the four that they had. They have a total of four taps, but offer a full bar, wine and bottled beer. I would definitely recommend this place if you were in Gettysburg this is a must go to location !

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat when I am in town. Everyone is so nice and the food is fantastic. I loved the lump crab in butter. There is no fillers just big pieces of crab meat. Also the date nut bread is a must. It is nice and warm and comes with cream cheese.

Yelp
A quaint publike restaurant in Gettysburg with a historic past. Dobbins House comes to mind when you think of what a Tavern looks like--a stone building with Dark wood paneling and wood floors. The restaurant wait staff wears period costumes, reflecting Colonial times. Hearty food choices typical pub foods; I enjoyed an open-face turkey sandwich, my hubby on his protein diet with spare ribs and spit-fried chicken. I learned fascinating history from friendly customers sitting next to us. Mr. Dobbins, a minister who owned the Dobbins House, was an abolitionist who provided a safe place for enslaved people. Upstairs, you can view the sanctuary where the enslaved people were hidden and the spring that the historic home was built over

Yelp
I'm SO glad we stumbled upon this gem! It was late lunch on a weekday but still so packed and I can see why - the food and atmosphere are both amazing! We had the King's Onion Soup to start with, then we each had a different sandwich (I had the hot beef dip which was super flavorful and amazingly delicious). We finished off with the apple pie with vanilla ice cream. The apple pie was different from the pies we're used to, but still hot and delicious! Our waitress was lovely and so nice, despite how busy it was! In fact, we noticed all the servers seemed so friendly and we can't wait to come back to enjoy the delicious food and super cool, authentic setting!

Yelp
The oldest house in Gettysburg, eating at The Dobbin House is a history lover's and food lover's dream. If you can, try to take the free tour before eating lunch there on weekends (tour is on select days) and you learn so much and can see the entire house and learn about it's fascinating history. Plus they put you first on the reservation list for lunch. The Dobbin House Restaurant was a favorite spot for Mamie Eisenhower to eat. Food was absolutely delicious and included items authentic to the time period. Portion sizes are large, be prepared for this to be your primary meal for the day, regardless of whether you go for lunch or dinner. Do not skip the desserts - they're worth it. As a crab dip enthusiast - their crab dip lived up to my high standards. And the homemade blue cheese dressing was delicious - you can order to go portions of their homemade dressings to take home. Lunch is served in the historic tavern. Dinner can be in the tavern or upstairs in the fine dining room which used to be living and bedroom areas of the house. Be prepared for long waits of over an hour, so put your name down early and walk around the shops on Steinwehr or the gift shop inside the Dobbin House.

Yelp
I wanted to give my wife a memorable evening in Gettysburg so I made reservations at the Dobbin House. The service was great and the menu was diverse. We both ordered cocktails which were generous pours. I ordered the hunter chicken and she ordered the duck. Meals come with your choice of a starch and salad. My chicken was fine, her duck was over cooked. The seating is tight and the restaurant was crowded with both locals and tourists. We thought the ambiance would be more elegant, but patrons wore shorts and laid-back attire. I think the Dobbin House is definitely worth consideration if you are in Gettysburg. But, there is a reason for the word Tavern in the name. Set your expectations accordingly and you will enjoy your visit.

Yelp
Tonight's dinner was a short wait for a bar seat, going solo after a trip to American Experience WW2 Museum in Gettysburg. Started off with the Baked French Onion soup as always, it's a must when you visit Gettysburg to try the Dobbins Onion soup. Top notch as always, piping hot, loaded with flavor and delicious melted cheese! Then onto the main course, which is usually The Mason's Mile high, however with the increase in prices this sandwich has topped out for me at $17.00. I love the sandwich but that price is hard to justify, so I chose the Springhouse Spread. Fresh greens with walnuts, smoked turkey, apples, cranberries, herb dressing on the side with bleu cheese crumbles and homemade sweet bread with cream cheese. Everything was served up in good order and the bar maid was super nice and very friendly. The bar atmosphere was lively and busy but I never felt rushed or cramped and enjoyed sitting at the bar for my meal.

Yelp
In Gettysburg for one day and looking for an important landmark and lunch, and we hit North with this joint! Walking downstairs is a walk back in time. Needed a salad so I opted for the caesar... good portion and dressing was great! Had to have a pie, and opted for the pecan... ooey-gooey salty sweet nutty goodness with a cool creamy ice cream... I didn't have room, but I made it fit! Only complaint is only one of the 3 entry doors was unlocked, so it seemed like a treasure hunt to get in. Ambiance is yesteryear dinge, service was friendly and prompt, and prices were in line with the location. If I'm back in the area I'll try it again... this place makes the list!

Yelp
Atmosphere and service is a 10/10. We are downstairs and felt like we were transported back in time. The French onion soup and ribs were the star of the show. The soup was so hearty. The ribs were so sweet and tender. The burger was just okay, I would probably not order it again (needed seasoning). Everything else was delicious!

Yelp
Gettysburg's oldest & most historic building , The Dubbin House Restaurant! I had a crab cake sandwich & the hubby had a cheese burger. Juicy, tasty, & delicious with one of their house specialties, Apple Cider Mimosas! How delicious & delightful. I finished up the plate , nice & clean, which was rather unusual for me , and it was a perfect spot to end our trip with to see the Gettysburg National Park . Highly recommended!

Yelp
As a history buff and staying in Gettysburg for the night, you know I had to check out the Dobbin House Tavern. We sat in the fine dining area on the second floor and had a wonderful dinner by candlelight. You really can't give this setting lower than a 10/10. It's perfect and very well preserved. The service was amazing as our server did an excellent job navigating us through the menu and their specials, etc. We started off with wine and a house Moscow mule while enjoying some delicious homemade breads and homemade butter (corn muffins, white rolls, pumpkin raisin). This was some of the best bread I've ever had in my life! They bring it out while it's steaming hot which allows the butter to melt so perfectly. Our meals came with house salads and they were perfect with homemade dressings (I did the house vinaigrette) For our entrees we went with the Seafood Isabella with fresh scallops (scallops were seared perfect) and a perfect Cajun broth with pasta. And their prime rib with a delicious ajou to go with it. The baked potato comes with very limited sides (butter and I think they can fondue cream and chives). If you're looking for cheese and bacon, they won't have it. The dessert menu looked fantastic but we did not have room, sadly. I will be back again! Maybe I'll even see some of the other guests that make an occasional appearance afterwards.

Yelp
What a cool bar/restaurant. The feel and look is of a 1700's hidden room speakeasy type. The food was awesome including the open face Reuben which I was hesitant about but the waitress said, No you Have to try it! Glad I did! Very lean meat corned beef.
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
I was a bit torn on this place. The history/significance of the building alone makes it worth coming here. However, prices are crazy steep. More importantly, I ordered the vegetable isabella but was instead brought the seafood isabella so that wasn't a good experience.
google avatar

Alabamba W.

Yelp
One word. Consistency! I always make reservations for the fine dining because they are ALWAYS busy. The food here is always consistently delicious. From the drinks, to the salads, bead, to dinner and dessert. I have never had a bad experience here and I have been coming for years. I love trying new places, but I am very loyal to Dobbins. I also love the tavern, too. Equally as delicious! Service is top notch

Yelp
My husband and I made an overnight stop in Gettysburg on our drive home from Florida. The Dobbin House is such an awesome place to eat! We did not have a reservation as we arrived in town later than expected, but we luckily managed to get in. I highly recommend a reservation if you know your time of arrival. The Dobbin House is a historic building with many plaques describing its past. The inside is interesting, as it is kept as historically accurate as possible. They even have some tables set up as four-poster beds upstairs! It's so cozy...like you are spending time in someone's home. Loved that! The food and drinks are absolutely delicious. We weren't that hungry after the stressful drive, but we each had the Baked King's Onion Soup and shared the Prime Rib. Highly recommend those options! Their punch cocktails are also very good. When we return to Gettysburg, we will surely be back for more.

Yelp
a fine fun place to dine. Service is excellent for Gettysburg. Have taken many people there and never had a complaint. Recommend prime rib and crab cakes.

Yelp
During our last visit to Gettysburg, we weren't able to get a reservation, I'm so glad I remembered to call a few weeks in advance this time. The history is unparalleled, it was like dining inside a museum. The service and the food did not disappoint. Be sure to walk through the whole restaurant if you have the opportunity. There is a lovely gift shop too. This is a must-do while in Gettysburg!

Yelp
Not a fan. Stale potato chips. Just ok burgers. Crab sandwich was good. Odd tasting "Root beer soda made just for the Tavern". Won't be back.

Yelp
Awesome... building predates the revolutionary war. I ate downstairs... you're gonna wanna do that despite the stairs. You can easily see our founding fathers fomenting revolution here (they didn't, it was a private residence but the ambiance is there.) candles on the table. Excellent bar. It is a little tight but again very cool. I arrived Wednesday at 6:30 pm and was seated almost immediately. Staff are in period clothing and well turned out. Menu has a nice selection of American food. I tried the kings onion soup expecting French onion... I got that but it had chunks of beef... a pleasant surprise. It was excellent beef notwithstanding but the beef was really good also. I had the half slab of ribs entree. It came with an excellent salad and baked potato and rolls. The ribs were good, well within acceptable ribs standards. They do come sauced. The potato potatoes as a potato should. All butter came in wrapped pats, not idea but it is what it is. Rolls were merely okay, not remarkable but okay. I had the house root beer and sarsaparilla both were fine. My waitress was Cecelia ( excellent colonial waitress name, just sayin) she was very efficient and attentive. Price was very reasonable for the area and I felt that I got good value for my money ($40 for soup, entree and two bottled premium sodas)
google avatar

James Z.

Yelp
The place is superb. I love the historic feel, decor, high backed chairs next to the fireplace. I had the House Rum drink which they limit to 2... wisely. More than would be too much sweet. The breads were amazing. The blueberry bread was succulent and the baked rolls were hot and tender. The clam chowder was a medley of simply clams and potatoes. Thick, creamy. I followed my bro and got the house dressing over my favorite and was not let down. The vinaigrette was superb and -I don't like bleu cheese- but... theirs is something special. The shrimp Gettysburg was phenomenal. Stuffed but wanted to see what dessert might be. Wisely I opted to forego. But I do think I missed out. Another time.... A must return. Our server was a truly amazing. Attentive and wonderful. A step above. There are reasons why long standing classics have lines outside the door... Make a reservation. Enjoy

Yelp
We heard about this place from friends and decided to try it. We were extremely pleased. The food and the service was outstanding. The steak was cooked perfectly and my seafood was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The ambiance is great too. The building dates back to the 1800's and was previously a schoolhouse. Well worth a visit if you're close to Gettysburg.

Yelp
Great service and helpful, food was great, nice selection on the tavern menu. In basement and small , lots of tables. Defiantly recommend this place. The other menu requires a week reseveration or you call to see

Yelp
We had dinner after a long day of sightseeing and hadn't eaten since breakfast so I was ready for a great meal and got one. I had NY Strip and my wife had Crab Cakes. I'm reviewing my dinner. I started with a hearty Onion Soup. The soup was cooked to perfection and loaded with beef chunks and onions. The next course, a Caesar salad was tasty and just enough. The star of the show was the NY Strip seared to perfection and flavorful. Both tender and juicy I can almost taste it now. The side baked potato was huge, fluffy and light. I finished with a cherry topped cheesecake that of course was perfect.

Yelp
Dobbin House is an institution. After walking around Gettysburg in the rain for hours, all you want is a good meal. Here, we got an experience! The staff is A+. They know what they're doing. The food is A+. The kitchen knows what they're doing. And then you have the history and ambience of the town wrapped around you. What else could you ask for? I would recommend 100%!
google avatar

Yelp
We had our dinner in the fine dining area . Beautiful and candlelit, Led to a spooky, historical ambiance. Our waitress was also dressed in historical wear. They had a nice wine, cocktail, and beer selection. My table enjoyed the pork tenderloin which came with choice of potato and salad. Table also had the strip steak and the chicken entree with mushrooms and veggies. We also enjoyed our meals and our time in the Dobbin's house. I would like to try the Tavern in the future As well.

Yelp
A visit to Gettysburg isn't complete without stopping by this iconic spot. You'll feel like you're stepping into history! Be sure to try the date nut bread--it's a must. The salads are fresh, and don't miss out on the homemade desserts or local cider for the perfect finishing touch.
google avatar

Anthony J.

Yelp
With a two hour wait to eat, I can't say I was all that impressed with the quality of the food. We believed it was made in house and bought a bottle of cider. If you saw the price, you'd think there was something special about it too. Four dollars for six ounces, I hope they pay well. I ordered the 7 Mile High sandwich and there was a lot of deli meat stacked on three slices of toasted bread with a leaf of lettuce, maybe tomato, and some mayonnaise. My wife ordered the Spit Chicken dish that came with a hard baked potato and a salad that was ruined with something similar to a Ranch dressing with chunks of what seemed to be cheese. Mom ordered the French Onion soup. It was topped with cheese. I heard nothing negative about it and it's "popular" so I assumed it to be good. She also got a crab cake sandwich. The last I heard was that they have good food. Maybe we should have tried something more expensive. I doubt it. Enough said, the experience was historic. We won't be going back unless it's to the gift shop for the glazed pecans or getting some post cards.

Yelp
This was a nice place. Pretty cool walking down into the "dungeon" to have your meal. Food was average but worth the experience going down stairs..

Yelp
Made reservations the day before and got in really quickly. When we arrived we were seated immediately. Love the old house with old furnishings on the wall. Very quiet even with tables full next to us. The bread was delicious! We ordered a mulled cider mimosa and it was quite tasty. I ordered the chicken and shrimp with baked potato. Large chicken portion and the potato was good size. My hubs in the other hand ordered the pork tenderloin and was disappointed with the texture of it. It had been cooked too long and was hard and dry. Overall the food was good and the experience excellent. Will be back to try the prime rib and leave room for dessert.
google avatar

Camille J.

Yelp
I was hesitant about mixed reviews for this place. Usually restaurants like this are a tourist trap. However, that is not the case for the fine dining room. We were warmly greeted upon entering and ushered up a flight of stairs to a beautiful dining room decorated like the house from the 1800s. We were sat in one of the tables in a four corner poster bed frame. Our server, Amanda (AK), was attentive, punctual despite the restaurant being filled, and full of smiles and recommendations. The bread basket had this apple walnut bread, roll, and mini corn muffins with fresh whipped salted butter. We started with the onion soup. Nicely soaked croutons, gooey cheese and a nice beef flavor. We both had the prime rib, and freshly prepared horseradish sauce (ask for it!). You must get the Chablis mushrooms. They're buttery, tender and addictive. We ended with the homemade brownie (gooey and warm) and the dessert of the day (salted toffee cake.) best meal we had in Gettysburg!

Yelp
We recently had a family gathering ( of 25) at the Dobbin House. We are visiting from the West Coast for a wedding. I called in April for our planned dinner in October. I spoke with Lauren. I can not say enough good things about our experience. Lauren was amazing! She went above and beyond to make our dinner experience memorable! The food was delicious, the service was excellent! This is a super busy place so if you want to eat here, make plans early. It's a historic house in the center of Gettysburg and the ambiance is authentic!! We had a wonderful dinner! Thanks Lauren for helping make our dinner a beautiful and memorable experience!

We had a great time in Gettysburg and it wouldn't be a complete visit without try the Dobin House Tavern for its cuisine and history. We loved the gift shop to peruse as we waited outside. They also had an outdoor bar if you wanted a drink while waiting too. We chose the Tavern and not the restaurant because we wanted that old dark historical feel. The French onion soup was outstanding and the crab dip won the yummy award for us too. The meals were traditional fare but all delicious. Next time you are in Gettysburg give it a try.

Yelp
I am visiting Gettysburg and so glad I stopped in to the Dobbin House Tavern! Entering you walk down the old narrow stone steps into the candle-lit eating area and bar. There are not many seats, so glad I came off hours at 4pm before the rush -- by the time I left every seat was full and there was a line outside. The waitress was at my table quickly and took my drink order - virgin pina colada and it was delicious! She was friendly, had a good sense of humor, and good at her job! I LOVED their stuffed shrimp and so glad I chose it. It really was fabulous. I highly recommend you stop in

Yelp
Amazing onion soup!! The overall meal and atmosphere was great. The tables were a little close together.

Yelp
Really cool old time feel. The entire house was open to walk around and check out the historic house. Service was good, pretty quick. The king's onion soup was amazing. I got the roast beef on focaccia and it was ok. Nothing to write home about. The bread was more like a ciabatta with one tiny speck of rosemary. What really set this place apart was the way it made you feel like you went back in time. It was a really cool experience. I would definitely go back, maybe not for the food but for the atmosphere.

Yelp
The pros: This historical location has such a great character! You can tour the house while waiting for a table. Keep in mind this house was built in 1776, so things like doorways were much smaller. The staff were all friendly and a few made sure to point out some details as we walked by. The tavern downstairs was intimate and took you back in time. The candlelight was a nice touch. The cons: Food was just ok. You're paying for the experience, my beef sandwich could have used some horseradish Mayo. Same with my husbands sandwich, it was fairly bland. The onion soup was delicious though. We were stuffed like sardines in the basement, there isn't much room. Tables are short and chairs were small but again, you're going back to that time period.

Yelp
I have been here 3 times in the past year and have enjoyed every one of my visits. Sit in the tavern for the most immersive experience! Their French onion soup is the perfect starter. Service can be slow depending on the time of day, but food always comes out to order.

Yelp
By far the best restaurant in Gettysburg. Absolutely delicious! The feel of the restaurant takes you back. I'm definitely coming back here when I do return.

Yelp
We booked ahead of time for a party of 10 and were seated right away in our own room. Food was delicious though it took a long time to come out.

Yelp
While this is a tourist spot and the wait was ridiculous, it was worth it. Such a beautiful restaurant with some much history. You travel down to a rock like cavern that hasn't changed since first built. The menu is small but all our food was hot and delicious, typical burger and sandwich lunch menu.
