15 Best Tapas Bars in Madrid | Condé Nast Traveler

"When a bar this far from the action—some 25 minutes northeast of the city center—is packed to the gills every night—on both floors—you know it's doing something right. Docamar has been a Ciudad Lineal institution since 1963, and its budget-friendly menu appeals as much to boisterous college kids as it does to families and business crowds. The pilgrimage-worthy dish—and Docamar's raison d'être—is patatas bravas, crisp-fried hunks of potato doused with a mouth- and eye-watering chili sauce whose recipe is closely guarded." - Benjamin Kemper

Here they have the best "brava" sauce for potatoes in Madrid. Very recommended but as famous as it is, is hard to get a table so it's highly recommended to reserve before hand or come in hours where the people is working

09/22/2024 I’ve never seen a bar with such a crowd, with everyone searching for a corner to simply order a drink and try their signature dish. This success is well-deserved, offering simple yet generous portions at reasonable prices. Food: Their standout dishes are "bravas," calamari, and grilled pig’s ear. The unique sauce and generous portions make these dishes truly special. Service: The bar is packed with staff, well-organized despite the limited space. Each person has a specific role, ensuring that everyone is attended to efficiently. Ambience: In Spanish, you’d say it’s packed “hasta la bandera,” with people inside, at tables, the bar, in every corner, and even outside on the street, enjoying the delights of this place. Conclusion: A fantastic experience, definitely worth returning for.

Had such a great dinner at Docomar. Was recommended here for their Patatas Bravas. Unique salsa sauce and their rendition is the one with a slightly more spicy and zesty sauce. My waiter Juan Antonio also speaks excellent English and is warm and friendly. Will return to try their Tortilla de Patatas next time since I didnt have stomach space anymore.

Great paella! If you are looking for authentic Spanish food that’s the place to go🧡 Consider making a reservation because there is always crowd here. Not many vegetarian options but there is some you can choose from.

Google
I seated on a table with my family, with no indication that it was somehow reserved to others, there was no waiting lines or anything, waited for 10 minutes at the table without any staff asking what we wanted to order, then some old rude staff man came with 4 other people and without any explanation and not even a "sorry" basically kicked us out of the table. There's no excuse for this kind of behavior.

Yelp
If you're in Madrid I would definitely stop here. We shared the tortilla de potata; it was delicious yet a very humble and simple dish. It was a good experience and I can definitely see this being a local dish that could be nostalgic for many.

Yelp
Great place for tapas and drinks even if you don't drink alcohol. Helpful staff, they are open late too. The homies and I walked around that place in the evening after we were done and it was pretty busy even at midnight; families were out strolling this late at night enjoying they cool breeze. Great paella, calamari and meatball tapas!

Yelp
It took me forever to find this place. Granted I was working off screenshots of Google Maps because I couldn't get data on my phone, and I tend to get lost. But once I found this place it was awesome. I went up to the bar and got a beer and a toritilla. The bar was busy, even at midnight, but that's Madrid, right? I'm pretty new with tapas, and I thought because I got food I wouldn't get tapas with my beer. Apparently that's not the case. Order a drink you still get tapas, even if you get food. That's awesome. I love tapas. The tapas including some patas bravas, which were delicious. I also had bread, which I might have been charged for. I keep forgetting in Europe (I'm from Canada) that bread isn't included with the meal. There were also some slices of chorizo and cheese. Those were yummy as was the tortilla. This restaurant came recommended for the tortilla from a local food blog and I have to say this was a great choice. Who knew the simple combination of potatoes and eggs could be so yummy. The price didn't seem too bad for what you got. It's busy and a little hard to find, but Docamar was definitely worth stopping at. I wish I was still in Madrid, because I would go back here again. If you're in Madrid you should come here for the tortillas and enjoy the tapas.

Yelp
The staff treated my party extremely poorly throughout our entire time at the restaurant. When we arrived, although we were trying our best (as tourists) our conversational Spanish was mocked and laughed at by the hosts. When an English speaking staff member spoke to us, it was in rude, short bursts that ended with more laughing. While we were still eating, our napkin dispenser, and the only two empty chairs at the table were taken away, with the staff laughing at us every chance they got. The food was alright, but not worth this treatment by the restaurant staff.

Yelp
The service is the best I have had in a LONG time. Friendly, talkative, honest suggestions and so on. They brought us free snacks to taste, multiple servers came to greet us and chat. And the food was amazing! You definitely need to try! So packed but worth the wait!

Yelp
Not the cheapest tapas place but really really delicious. ( we orders octopus, green peppers, potata bravas, fried oyster mushroom with aoli and sangria, totally about 34 euro) Friendly staff and English menu!

Yelp
Best "Patatas Bravas" (fries with a special and unique spicy sauce) in the whole world!! perfect for eat real spanish food. There you will find a big variety of very tasty tapas. It´s absolutely worth to try if you are visiting Madrid. It is an historic place anyway. Inside you will find old pictures of how it was back in the days.

Yelp
Good but not incredible. A local tapas place completely off the tourist beaten path. Good prices and excellent portions. Try the salad with balsamic dressing and goat cheese. Glasses of white wine for 2 euros.

Yelp
Great place! We ordered paella with sea food and it was really great and portions are big. Also had great tapas and wine. The waiters are really nice and they have a menu in English.

Ralph E.

Yelp
Incredibly lively local tapas bar. Staff realized we were tourists and brought menus in english. Food was terrific and varied. Potatoes, pigs ear, pork and paella were all delicious. Highly recommended.
