The Coolest Design-Forward Shipping Container Hotels Around the World - AFAR

"A 40-foot-high zigzag of mostly solar-powered containers cutting through a shipyard, this was Germany's first luxury hostel made from recycled sea containers and opened in 2017. Rooms offer shipyard views through large windows or balcony doors and pair polished concrete and exposed ductwork with colorful accents; some suites include record players, electric guitars and kitchenettes. The building also houses social amenities—a movie theater, rooftop sauna, climbing wall, bar and workstations—fostering a communal, lively atmosphere." - Mandy Ellis

We had a fantastic stay at DOCK INN Hostel Warnemünde! We booked the Fine Cream Fish Fillet Suite, which was comfortable and stylish. The breakfast was a highlight—really fresh and delicious with a great variety. We especially loved the record player and vinyl collection in the suite; playing various records added such a fun and unique vibe to our stay. The staff were friendly, and the location is perfect for exploring Warnemünde. Highly recommend!

We had a positive experience with the hotel initially and were impressed with the facilities, as well as the two female staff at the reception. However, our experience was ruined when we returned to the hotel at midday of our check out day. We paid for late check out (1pm) at check in, but when we got to our room we saw that the room had been entered and the card did not work anymore. We thought that there must have been a mistake, which was fine, and returned to reception to tell them. However, there was a new male receptionist there who was extremely rude and had no manners. We told him about the situation and instead of investigating, he snapped at us and said it was because check in was at 11am. When we told him no, we paid for late check out, he stayed silent, asked for our keys, then said “ok it’s done”. No apology or kindness whatsoever. Then, in the hour afterwards, we had someone knock on our door telling us we overstayed, and also received a phone call telling us we needed to check out. Baffling When we actually went down to check out at the correct time, the rude employee then refused to speak to us! The other male employee who checked us out was nice to be fair. Therefore I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone knowing that such a rude and unprofessional employee is allowed to treat customers like that. Funnily enough I see other 1 star reviews about the blond male employee being rude, looks like it’s a pattern!

Great place to stay plus an area to store your bike. Beautiful kitchen if you are cooking on your own.

Stayed for 5 nights in a 4-bed female dorm. The rooms are built-out shipping containers, so space is limited. But the beds were a good size and very comfortable. There were floor to ceiling lockers in our room; bring your own padlock or grab one from reception. The hostel also offers bike and ebike rentals, which is a fun way to explore the area. There is a rock climbing place next door. Train and bus stops just across the road. An interesting mix of people staying here, many very young and traveling without adult supervision for the first time. I've witnessed more teenage dramas early morning in the kitchen than I ever wanted to before having my first cup of coffee. But it's part of the hostel experience in some parts of Germany. The kitchen itself is a good size and has many, not all, utensils you need to prepare a simple meal. There are even proper coffee machines (drip system) and 2 functioning ovens. The hostel also has washers and dryers and doing laundry will not cost an arm and a leg like in other hostels. Staff are friendly and relaxed. Wifi was great in the reception area and in the room on the second floor. The only downside was the lack of daily cleaning and the overflowing rubbish bins that sometimes go with it. At the same time, you can borrow cleaning equipment to clean your room yourself, so there is little to complain about.

Wonderful stay at the DOCK INN Hotel. Hotel: nice hotel, creative atmosphere, nice breakfast (14,90/ portion). Sauna/spa is in the hotel process included (working until 11pm) Room: Cool design, something new. Enough to stay over night but as well cool to relax. Stuff: Really nice and cute. Gave us in the night the bicycles for 1h for free. As well we could park our car for 1h in front of the hotel parking place for free. Had the option to talk to the hotel owner - pretty relaxed and nice guy. Everybody was kind, the night sercutity shift as well as the breakfast team. Thanks for everything!!!

Great day out with kids 4 and 8 doing bouldering. Groovy place made for kids. Friendly and helpful. Spend good 3h here. Snacks available although “only” healthy snacks available. Comfy resting in cool seating areas with table available. Facilities clean. Anytime again.

Loved the sauna, loved the location, loved how nice everything was. Highly recommend it. The only suggestions I would make to the hostel are to add privacy curtains and to change the bed platforms. Every time you move it shakes both beds.

One of the best stays in any hotel I’ve had! Staff was super nice and there was a free of charge sauna to enjoy after a long day of walking! Very relaxing. They also had a ton of other things to choose from like ebikes, bikes, skate and longboards and much much more.
