"Palazzo Ducale Set in front of the beautiful fountain in Piazza Ferrari, the first pieces of the Palazzo Ducale were built in the mid 1250's. Buried deep under the original flooring, massive receptacles still remain that originally stored water, oil, and hay - for it is said that the often 'unfavored' Doge could live for two full years locked deeply inside if under attack. With additions and modifications after an unfortunate fire, the building was fully restored in 1992 (for the celebration of the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus). Today, its frescoed public spaces house countless community events, and the second floor acts as home to a vast museum with a rotating schedule of exhibits - this spring, do not miss the haunting paintings of Edward Munch."

I'm sure this place is beautiful as a venue, but as a standalone museum, it is not worth the $15 entrance fee per person. You walk up one set of stairs and are shown a tiny gallery where they have traveling exhibitions. The exhibition at the time we were there was that of some "famous" child painter who just put random brushstrokes on the canvas and some proud mom declared it "art." The bulk of the palace is unable to be visited. Only the primary ball room which is absolutely gorgeous and massive. I bet all the 5 star reviews are of people listening to concerts in that hall. Absolutely stunning. However, while viewing, you can spend maybe 5-10 minutes in there before you move on to the Doge's Chapel... which is also gorgeous, but small and worth another 5-10 minutes of time. All in all, we were out of there in less than 30 minutes and while we love the rooms we saw... we just expected more like the Royal Palaces in Genova and Torino.

Visited the World Press Photo exhibit here today and was blown away by the high quality of the images and the way they are presented.

The Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace) is a must-visit destination for history and art lovers exploring Genoa. Once the residence of the Doges who ruled the Republic of Genoa, this majestic palace now serves as a cultural hub, offering visitors a glimpse into the city’s glorious past and vibrant present.

Easy to enter and just look around. Good spot to escape the heat as it's very cool within the structure.

It doesn’t worth the money at all. No exhibistions other than the chapel, and even though there was supposed to be an exhibistion it was closed too. There’s literally nothing here. It doesn’t worth the 8 euros. And it should be included in the genova card.

I didn’t see much because my visit was pretty short but there’s was this really cool big room that I don’t know how would you call it. It was impressive.

An interestin gexhibition on Artemisia Gentileschi, XVII century painter and her story. Worth seeing. It will be there until March 2024. Also don't miss the permanent exhibition, free, on Emanuele Luzzati, graphic artist: absolutely not to miss!!!
