We have been bringing our dogs to Dogtopia off and on for a few months, primarily for boarding. Before allowing your dogs to attend daycare or boarding, it is essential that they go through an on boarding process to test temperament, etc. I appreciate that they do this.
However, aside from that, I have several issues. In order to utilize Dogtopia's grooming services, they must be at daycare for the day or boarded. Okay, no issue. However, on several occasions, they "forgot" or would leave their dewclaws untouched. Minor if it happens only once, but a common occurrence.
When boarding, our dogs ALWAYS - and I mean always - return home smelling like urine. Of course the place is entirely indoors and it's concrete, they do mop periodically, but I don't recommend paying for grooming (like a bath) when boarding or attending daycare here - because they will return home with a new pee stench.
It also isn't a great feeling knowing they're in small kennels at night. It stinks that I provided a dog bowl for ours while we boarded her and they never returned the bowl. With little things like that... It just seems there's too many moving parts for this place to keep up with demand, which brings me to:
Lastly, now they're not allowing dogs to board unless you have a "membership" - aka weekly scheduled services. This means unless you want to cough up the dough for weekly daycare, etc., you have to look elsewhere for boarding. It just seems like a money grab to me rather than offer a genuinely desired service for people who need it.
That's okay though - Dogwood Acres in Davidsonville is a lovely place not far from Dogtopia with pet amenities - not plastic crates and concrete - for your loved pooches. They offer higher quality kennels, actual one:one time with your pups, cameras, etc.
Dogtopia is a neat place if you're just doing daycare. They return very tired pups to you - but aside from that, I don't recommend boarding or grooming services at all.
