Doi Intanon, Thai Restaurant

We had a wonderful dinner during our stay in Grasmere. We’re big fans of Thai food, and this restaurant is definitely one of the best we’ve been to. Our table was on the second floor, and I highly recommend requesting a table there. The atmosphere was fantastic—high ceilings and traditional Thai decorations. The food was delicious and varied. We started with the combination starter and the Yum Toui vegetarian salad, both of which were great. The main dishes were equally impressive, with both curry and stir-fried options to choose from. And the desserts were simply divine. The service was impeccable—quick, polite, and attentive. The prices seemed reasonable, considering the quality of the food and service. We felt we got our money’s worth.

Lovely Thai restaurant in the heart of Ambleside. The food was superb and the service was very good. It's quite expensive but was worth it. I recommend booking a table as it was very busy when we went on a Friday at the end of September.

A surprise find in the Lake District. Authentic Thai food with good selection of varieties. The staffs are super friendly and the building is beautiful with high ceilings. Had a great meal and a good time here. Highly recommended.

I would definitely recommend booking in advance it gets really busy. Staff were friendly and helpful. Drinks were a bit pricey. And I definitely didn't like the 10% service charge.

Really great food, wonderful service and beautiful building (an old market house). We had the tempura prawns and chicken satay to start - both delicious. Our mains were made to order (we wanted beef instead of chicken or prawns which was the option for one of the stir frys) and they were happy to accommodate. Lovely staff, felt very welcomed - we enjoyed our first meal out in Ambleside.

Me and my partner were overwhelmingly impressed by just how incredible the flavours and quality of cuisine this restaurant offers!! The staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely agree with the other reviews of this place.. absolutely love to come back here!

Update for 2025: Excellent food on our return visit. Curries were tasty with good depth of flavour. An improvement to food and service compared to 3 years ago and well worth a visit. ----- Starters were the best, sweetcorn fritters tasty and spring rolls were good. Red curry was tasty but had to hunt for the chicken. Service was prompt but haphazard with the wrong wine delivered and prawn crackers forgotten. Good flavours but could do better.

Love this place, the food is exceptionally good, with finely balanced flavours and authentic taste. The service feels warm and inviting and the staff make me feel like I’m at home. I will continue to come back again and again. Prior reservation a must during peak season.

It's quite embarrassing that we had Thai food for two nights in a row when traveling through the Lake District but... the heart wants what the heart wants! Full disclosure, I wanted to hate this place. It took a while for the hostess to seat us because he was busy chitchatting instead of taking care of people in line. Also, they kind of scoffed when we said we didn't have a reservation even though the place was half full. Then, looking at the menu, the food doesn't come with rice or noodle, and they charge a whopping 2.95 pounds for plain jasmine rice. I was like -.- But DANG their food is amazing! I was completely blown away. Possibly the best Thai food I've ever had outside of Thailand. Who would have thought a restaurant in a little English village would be one of the best Thai food experiences I've ever had. We got the chicken Phad Krapow and the land stir fry. The flavors on these dishes were absolutely perfect. We cleaned the plates! Highly recommend. If this place were in Arlington VA, they would probably know my name and make my food as soon as I walk in the door!

Really beautiful interior, delicious food to match, reasonably-priced wines, and quick service. We loved having dinner here, I'm a Cumbrian native and it's rare to find such great Thai food. Highly recommend.

We were looking for some Asian food while traveling around the Lake District and this place was recommended. It doesn't look too fancy from outside but everything inside is well designed. We had a few different courses and they all didn't disappoint us. The soup was less spicy than excepted, but still good in general. We may go back again if we have the chance to stay longer :)

A trip to Ambleside is not complete without a meal here Doi Intanon is in the heart of Ambleside, a small restaurant run by Christopher Knight and his wife Busara. The food is some of the best Thai I've had. Always busy, the restaurant has a relaxed and warm atmosphere. I cannot recommend this place enough. Be sure to book a table if you're planning a visit at the weekend.

Excellent Thai food in the heart of the Lake District. It is worth noting that they do take away which means you can still enjoy the mouth watering flavours even if you have very young children. Very good and certainly worth a visit.

Dont Bother. Tiny portions, vastly overpriced. Luke warm and gloopy with enough MSG to give me a headache for 2 days straight. Definately a place to avoid when in ambleside!
